Hello! I’ve been loving the theme so far. Amazing work!

However, I recently stumbled on a problem, as I noticed the comments are nowhere to be seen on WP Pages, even though I have them enabled for a particular page. Is there a way to add them back?

Cheers!

SaurabhSharma

Hello arturogoga,

Thanks for the purchase and kind feedback.

Comments are not enabled for pages. But it can be enabled by adding this line inside page.php, just before the closing endwhile loop:

comments_template( '', true ); // Add this line
<?php endwhile;

I hope it will work at your end.

Hi. Thinking about buying your theme, some questions: 1) why not adding font family, color and sizes and footer columns number in theme options? 2) images can’t be smaller than 600 px width? 3) why not adding an empty child theme directly inside the theme download? I think child themes are so useful, especially if theme is upgraded often, exactly like I hope… ;) Thank you

SaurabhSharma

Hello kkri,

Thanks for browsing the theme. Please find my answers below:

1. Font family options can be added. Just that I kept it limited according to requirement. Over loading of theme options is not feasible. A simple CSS rule in style.css is more feasible than calling it from theme options involving a database query. I assume that such simple CSS additions can be done by WordPress users.

2. Images can be of any width. High dimension images will work good for overall responsive layout. For example, a 300px image is good on mobile, but may seem blurred on 600px view port. So a general 600 to 800px width is recommended.

3. I will surely do that in future updates. I will include a sample child theme. You can add that too by following this link. (I’m sure you already know how to). :)

Hey, great theme… Does the responsive design work on mobiles? I’ve been looking on a number of devices, and also putting the address into google’s mobile test site and all I am getting is text and CSS… Am I overlooking something.

SaurabhSharma

Hello andys83,

Thanks for the purchase and kind feedback. Responsive design works on all mobile devices. I’m not sure whether you checked live demo, or your own site. If it’s your own site, make sure responsiveness is not disabled inside Appearance > Theme Options > General.

It may also happen if the server is down, and the responsive CSS file is not loaded completely. You can check the live demo again.

Hi, When using google adsense leaderboard banner at top of the page the mobile version of the page does kind of work.Except the banner doesnt scale down and it looks really wierd because of this.

SaurabhSharma

Hello iCynexe,

Thanks for purchasing the theme.

Google Ads can not be made fluid width. If we do so, it may violate their TOS. However, these ads can be switched to different slots using some JavaScript code. For example, check Link 1 and Link 2.

Using these scripts you can provide different ad slots for different device width. Alternatively, you can also hide ads for particular device width by using display:none inside responsive.css file. Kindly let me know if you wish to do that.

How can i set order of posts in the homepage? Since i want “Recent news” to appear by newest. But other posts to appear random for widgets and in the row on home page? And is there a way to center the navigation?

SaurabhSharma

Hello SZTEAM,

If using slider or post short code, you can set order by simply passing a order=”xx” parameter. You would use order=”rand” for random order. Example:

[insert_posts num="4" cats="xx" order="rand" ...]

On widgets, this value is hard coded. So posts will appear according to publish date. If you wish to change the order, it can be done inside includes/widget-recent-posts.php file, line no. 40. If you find any difficulty, kindly send me a mail at xconsau[at]gmail[dot]com.

Hello, I purchased this theme but I cannot find the documentation inside the zip file. I’ve been searching through the comments but cannot seem to find the answer.

SaurabhSharma

Hello yvrmark,

Thanks for purchasing the theme. I think you have downloaded the installable “theme-only” zip. Kindly re-download the entire ZIP archive which contains documentation, dummy data, and installable theme. If you can not find it, kindly send me a mail at xconsau[at]gmail[dot]com. I will send it.

Hey!

It’s me again, went and purchased these theme as it’s a kind of upgrade to the one I had…

One question, how do I stop the featured image coming up in my blog post? Like I really don’t want it there?!

Hope this is possible!

SaurabhSharma

Hello JSWoodhams,

Automatic insertion of featured images in single posts can be disabled inside ‘Appearance > Theme Options > Blog > Single Post Settings > Hide Featured Image’. Enable this option and save settings. This will disable featured images on single posts.

Also I’m having trouble with super slow load times, my site wont even load… just times out?

Hi, it appears to be okay now.

However I’m having another few issues.

1. When I insert an image into a blog post, then scale it down with the Wordpress image options the image still appears full size? Even though in the Text the new image width and height is correct…

Any suggestions?

2. Also on your themes live preview, how did you get the slider along side the highlights?

Also curious to how to create this: http://gyazo.com/c77c39c86b077614786ccafce4ba1ab8.png?1367246191

3. When I use a featured image in my blog and chose the 2 column blog layout the image thumbnails are all different sizes (as my featured images are) I was wondering if the blog made a universal image size like it appears to in your live preview, or do I need to custom all my featured images?

See image example: http://gyazo.com/53bbbdeacc8b3603285b29dec3330c31

I think that’s it for now :P I’ll let you know if any more issues arise, thank you for the support, absolutely loving the theme so far!

Hello JSWoodhams,

1. In responsive layouts, images are set to show as auto width and 100% max-width. When using inline width and height parameter, this may not work. In that case use inline CSS instead of inline width height parameter. For example:

<img style="width:200px;" src="..." />

If you send me the URL of that particular page or post, I can suggest more appropriate solution.

2. Home page and other pages as shown on live demo can be found inside your download_zip/dummy_data/ folder. Open home.txt file and copy it’s contents into the Text mode of editor in your Home page. It will be required to replace category IDs inside short codes with the ones you have. There are 8 such variation files. You can use any of them.

3. Images can be scaled and cropped inside Appearance > Theme Options > Image Sizes. If using two columnar blog, you can specify sizes for two columnar grid images. After changing sizes, save settings and regenerate thumbnails.

For better results, provide featured images that are of consistent width and height. On live demo, all my featured images are of 900×600 dimension. This creates a consistent layout through the site.

4. Regarding adsense, it is likely a conflict with TOS of your AdSense service provider. May be two or more 300px ads are not allowed in same page. Kindly cross check the ad code, slot IDs and other parameters. :)

Hey, great theme. Just a question. I made a POST and i added some pictures (with wordpress standard uploader). I can see the thumbs but when i click on the pic the lightbox doesn’t work. The pic open in a news window. Could you help me?

SaurabhSharma

Hello 24mediait,

Thanks for the purchase and kind feedback.

In order to enable lightbox on any picture, it will be required to add a prettyPhoto rel tag to it. Open / edit your post in “Text” mode of editor and look for the image thumbnails code. You can wrap them in anchor tag as shown below:

<a data-rel="prettyPhoto[group1]" href="http://url_of_big_image/image1.jpg"><img src="http://url_of_thumbnail_image/image1.jpg" title="Image title" /></a>

Adding a data-rel="prettyPhoto[group1]" will enable lightbox on pictures. You can find more details inside the documentation/index.html file’s section 21. FAQ > Q. 10 How to use prettyPhoto.

Thanks for the response, but I created a GALLERY, so i can’t add this code: data-rel=”prettyPhoto[group1]”. Wordpress put this code: [gallery ids=”453,454,455,456,457”] Any ideas?

SaurabhSharma

Hello 24mediait,

If using gallery short code, image markup can not be edited. In that case you can use any gallery lightbox plugin. For example, this one:

Thank you very much so far for your great help :) I was looking for the file you’ve included in the download package that offers usage instructions (I’m trying to figure out how to get different layouts on the front page similar to what I’ve seen in your demo – I set my front page to static “Home”, and linked it to the Posts page…but when I try to change layout of Home page in wordpress…there are no changes). I don’t see an instruction file anywhere. Your readme file says to look in the “documentation/index.html” file. I see an “index” PHP file – I can’t figure out how to open it – is this the right file? I opened it in my browser and saw a bunch of code. And now I can’t get it to do that again.

SaurabhSharma

Hello kbanton,

I think a recent feature addition on themeforest regarding “Download theme only” is creating confusion. Make sure you download the entire ZIP archive which contains documentation, dummy data and the theme. There will be an option of downloading “installable” theme, and I suppose you would have downloaded that only. If you still do not find the main download, kindly send me a mail at xconsau[at]gmail[dot]com. I will send you entire archive.

I have one more question. Do you offer a customization service? Is possible to change a bit of code for my purpose? Thank you, once again.

SaurabhSharma

Hello again,

Sorry I do not provide customization services at this time. May be I can help if the code change is not much. I will do that as a part of support. Kindly send me a mail at xconsau[at]gmail[dot]com. I will let you know if it is possible. :)

I have a technical question. I’ve just launched a new website using your wonderful theme. You can check it out here: http://tardistopia.net. I needed to have a header 728×90 sized ad under the header and I accomplished this by just inserting it into the theme template and it looks fine. The problem is that on a mobile phone or iPad is totally messes up the responsive design. How can I get the theme not to show the ad as it become responsive for smaller devices?

SaurabhSharma

Hello anglotopia,

Nice implementation and customization on the site. In order to hide the ad, it will be required to wrap it in a unique class selector first.

1. Open the template in which you have inserted ad markup and wrap the code in a div block as:

<div class="header-ad">
- your advertisement code -
</div>

2. Open responsive.css file and add this rule inside the 768px media query block:

@media only screen and (max-width: 768px) {
.header-ad { display: none; }
}

This rule can also be added inside user.css file’s media query block.

Besides hiding using CSS, you can also use a script which can replace ad slots with different size banners. For example, on mobile device you can show a 300px ad instead of 768px. You can find that script here.

Perfect mate – that did the trick. Thank you so much. I will look into that script as I was wondering if something like that existed. :-)

Hi,

I have a very strange problem:

I clicked on Design > Themes > Customize to adjust some colors. But when the page opens in the Preview everything becomes so extremely slow that it is not possible to work.

My Cookie Stumbler in Safari (which deletes tracking cookies) counts 20 or more tracking cookies and Google Analytics counts 10 – 80 site impressions while trying to work in the theme customization. I suppose that the preview page is reloaded again and again or something.

I tested to deactivate the “tinybuddha” and the “feed the fishes” widgets, but no effect. I also tried chrome browser, same thing.

I have no other problems in my backend and no problems with the frontend (and no tracking cookies are shown on normal website), it´s only in the theme customization.

Very strange and annoying…

SaurabhSharma

Hello Frank,

It is not a bug. In WordPress Theme Customizer we have two options for showing customization results. 1. Either make all changes and then refresh the preview window, or 2. Refresh the preview window continuously so that changes can be seen live. For example, if you change the color inside color picker, it will be seen changing on preview site live. This is achieved by refreshing the preview window continuously. You can find reference here.

So it is only for user experience. It neither affects back-end, nor front end. It is only for convenience of seeing customizer changes live.

Regards

Default-user

Thanks! I just wonder why it worked fine in the past with the continuously refreshed preview and now it´s so slow that I can´t use it :-(

SaurabhSharma

Hello Frank,

If the Theme Customizer of NewsPlus was working fast before, may be a recent plugin addition could have made it slow. There is a known conflict of some plugins with theme customizer. You can confirm that by disabling any newly added plugins (or all plugins) for a while and checking the customizer again. Also check by deleting all browser history and cache.

Can I enlarge the font on the post pages?

SaurabhSharma

Hello grantkessler,

I just checked the site. The single post font size is correctly changed. I can see 14px body font size on single posts. Kindly let me know if you wish to change font size for some other elements.

grantkessler

Can I enlarge it to maybe 16px font size? Thank you for your time!

SaurabhSharma

Hello grantkessler,

Yes you can do so. In the earlier mentioned CSS code, change font-size: 1.1666em; to font-size: 16px; or font-size: 1.33em;

Its tom of the news detail page.

Thx.

SaurabhSharma

Hello Ahmet,

Those are coded inside newsplus/includes/shortcodes/shortcodes.php file. Inside the functions named posts_slider(), insert_posts(), and posts_carousel(). You can edit these functions as required. The comment text is coded as:

$comments = __( '0 Comments', 'newsplus' );

Locate this instance and replace the text as required. :)

hi, My News Feeds does not show Featured Images, how I can make it to show: http://www.infoturkiye.com/feed/

Hello brandclinic,

Nice implementation on the site. You can show featured images in feed using this plugin or by adding a code snippet inside your functions.php file. Any of these will work.

News plus is a wonderful theme. It is exactly what I was looking for. I have 2 small problems:

  • Pages should also have a large thumbnail like single.php
  • Space is lacking in 30. Juli 2010 | Umgangsformen, zum Projekt | 2Kommentare on the frontpage

I hope you can fix it.

SaurabhSharma

Hello oowxp32,

Thanks for the purchase and kind feedback. Pages do not have automated featured thumbnails like single posts. That’s because pages can have a more structured markup and components as shown on Home page. Images can be inserted manually inside page editor if required.

I think that post meta is being used in slider. If it is wrapped inside a Half column short code, it may fall short of space. There is no particular workaround because if the number of categories are more, this list will expand accordingly. This can be fixed by changing date format to some shorter date inside Settings > General > Date Format. You can also opt to hide post meta by using hide_meta=”true” parameter inside short code.

Hi again,

Question re Wordpress + bbPress: great integration in the theme! however I’m facing this challenge and have not found a soulition after a lot of search and research:

I need to have only 1 user profile page (at the moment the site has 1 from Wordpress and 1 from bbPress: http://dev.viajesdepareja.com/author/juan/ and http://dev.viajesdepareja.com/users/juan/) Also, I need both to have a single sign up/login integrated with Facebook.

Can you point me in the right direction please?

SaurabhSharma

Hello Juan,

I am not very sure if same user account can be used for WordPress login and bbPress forum. bbPress account may have different roles and capabilities. Searching on codex and other forums I found this thread. http://wordpress.org/support/topic/wordpress-and-bbpress-integration

You can also search for a plugin which may allow integration with WordPress and bbPress using same login.
