What are the key differences between this theme and Jigsaw? Is this theme also based on the “roots” framework? Will any improvements that may have made it into this product also find their way into Jigsaw (for example (but not limited to) ...Retina support) in the near future?

Thanks for the kind words. We’ve worked hard to ensure Next is the best theme it can be. Next is indeed also based on an extensively modified and upgraded version of Roots.
While some of those upgrades and features we’ve packed into Next aren’t backwards compatible with Jigsaw, some of them are and will be making their way into Jigsaw.

I followed the instructions and everything goes blank after activating it. I have to delete the ‘Next’ theme before I’m able to do anything after activating it.

super crisp and clean…quick question…any chance I could swap out the slider for some type of other slider? I need a “content slider”..you know, a pic or video on the left with text and a call to action button on the right.
Is that major work to do that with this theme?

Thanks for your interest and the great feedback. Next uses the Flexslider for its slider shortcode (which only supports images with captions), so to have html content you’d have to drop in another slider. It’s definitely possible, but you might have to do some coding
.

I’ve replied to your post on the Support Forums. The issue you’re experiencing results from using an older version of PHP that doesn’t support inline function declarations. In my reply on the forum, I’ve provided a workaround you can apply to Next version 1.0.1.
Next 1.0.2 is in the process of being released, and it has been updated to have back support for older versions of PHP . Thanks.

. The recent posts shortcode could absolutely be deleted and replaced with something else—the homepage is actually constructed from shortcodes included with Next, so you can easily modify it as much as you like.

That error comes up on servers running a version of PHP older than 5.3. The latest version of Next (version 1.0.3) has a fix that prevents this from happening—you should see it available for download via your ThemeForest account.

My server is using PHP 5 .2.13 so I’m guessing that is the issue, but I thought this was fixed with the 1.0.3 release. Thanks.

Can the sub-titles be eliminated from the nav menu and drop down menus? If they are eliminated, will it reduce the height of the nav menu and drop down menus?
Also, FYI , in the demo, image portfolio items 4 through 10 are not displaying the images on the single portfolio pages.
