Common WordPress Installation Issues

Missing style sheet error when installing the theme

A common issue that can occur with users new to installing WordPress themes is a “Broken theme and/or stylesheets missing” error message being displayed when trying to upload or activate the theme. This error message does not mean that the theme you have purchased is broken, it simply means it has been uploaded incorrectly. Luckily, there is a very easy fix.

How do I add sliders to internal pages?

In version 2.0 we added the premium Slider Revolution plugin so adding sliders to multiple pages is very simple.

3. Open the page where you want the slider (similar to the homepage style)
4. Insert the shortcode into the correct meta field:

Why are my services tabs not working?

What I decided to do was use the “slugs” of the service posts for the tabs (for better SEO and linking directly to tabs), so unfortunately with standard permalink structures (which no one uses anyway) it breaks. If you go to Settings->Permalinks and choose the “postname” format they will work!

How can I use the Blog style 2?

Simply select the entry style “2” from the theme options panel under the blog section –

Why can’t I activate the Revolution Slider Plugin?

Very simply put…because you didn’t buy it.

The way it works on ThemeForest is when a plugin is included for free with a theme you can use the plugin for free without any issues, but if you want update and support from the plugin developer you need to purchase it separately (optional). The plugin will work just fine without the purchase code. You do NOT need to activate it in order to use it.

How can I modify the portfolio details array?

Since version 2.4 there is a new filter “wpex_portfolio_details_array” you can use to modify the portfolio details meta via your child theme. This will allow you to alter which options to display, the order to display them and to add new ones!

Example function for your child theme:

function my_edit_portfolio_details_array( $array ) {
    // Change date label to "Example"
    $array['date']['label'] = "Example";
    return $array;
add_filter( 'wpex_portfolio_details_array', 'my_edit_portfolio_details_array' );

You can use this logic to alter the current values. You could also use the unset() PHP function to remove fields as well as you can add new fields to the array if you want additional details. Simply follow the logic in the function in “portfolio-details-array.php” to add new field and they will be added not only to your metafields but also to the front-end. Yay!

Functions: functions/portfolio-details-array.php
Output: includes/portfolio-meta.php
