I have a particular request, but I think it would add a nice touch for posts: the option to add a “See next post” on every post pages (as it is already the case with the next and previous buttons) but using this tutorial : http://tympanus.net/codrops/2013/10/30/medium-style-page-transition/

Of course without the javascript/ajax loading but with a simple scroll up on the second page load. What do you think?

By the way, I was hitchiking for 2 months in Iceland last summer, this is a really awesome country! Had a pylsur breakfast every morning :) Are you based in Reykjavik?

bluthemes_

This is actually one of the things we noted down when we were creating the theme. It looks awesome.

I’ll look into it later on when we have wrapped up a few important additions to the theme.

Hitchhiking for 2 months! wow you must have seen a lot of the country since it so small. I hope it was the summer of 2012 because this summer had the worst weather in 80 years. We are from the town were the international airport is located, it’s called Keflavik. We have an office at the old abandoned US Naval base.

CodeClean

Another request I have is that I am displaying a google map on some of my articles that are about a locations (like museums, theaters and restaurants) and I would like the possibility to display all those locations on a single map in the category page (with coordinates). The existing plugins are too simple or too complex. So it might not be the main goal of your theme but if other people ask it, it would be nice to consider it as a widget maybe. Keep me posted if you plan to add it someday.

I was in Iceland this summer 2013, and yes weather was bad in the beginning but still had a 3 weeks with full sunshine, perfect time for hiking and Mudball festival in Isafjordur! Definitely going back someday, wonderful country. I’ve been hosted 2 days the US base. A bit sad area, but I guess it’s okay price to rent an office there now :)

bluthemes_

A map post layout is a fantastic idea, I’ll add it to our to-do list and see what options I can come up with regarding coordinates, we could also put this in our sidebar builder and page builder.

I may be getting ahead of myself but this is an exciting idea! :)

Best Regards, Arnar

You can start with that nice tutorial : http://martyspellerberg.com/2012/02/tutorial-integrating-wordpress-and-google-maps-api-v-3/ (a bit old but the basics) and use the free plugin http://martyspellerberg.com/address-geocode-wordpress-plugin/ that transform adresses to coordinates.

Very nice theme! I am thinking of purchasing this theme but I have a couple questions:

- Is this theme designed around parent-child framework? - This labeled as well documented. What type of documentation do you have? Is any of it or have plans to make public? - Does this theme support custom post types (if I want to create)? How challenging will it be to customize this theme?

By the way, I second kitgraphisme’s suggestion about doing a next article feature like Medium – it’d look awesome in this theme.

Thanks in advance.

bluthemes_

Hi,

“parent-child framework” are you talking about if it supports child themes?

You can access the online docs here

Custom post types are not yet supported but we have that on our to-do list, others have asked for this as well.

You can customize a bunch of things in the theme options and also with the page composer but if you want to dig into the code you’ll have to know your stuff to manage that.

The medium.com feature is pretty awesome but as mentioned in the other comment we want to add things like multilingual support, responsive adsense ads with multiple ads spots like in between posts and other stuff like that first.

Hi, I have another question (just bought the theme, by the way ;)

I’m trying to create a page template to show posts ordered by views. I have this code, but it does not work:

<?php $the_query = new WP_Query(array( ‘posts_per_page’ => 50, ‘meta_key’ => ‘blue_post_views’, ‘orderby’ => ‘meta_value_num’, ‘order’ => ‘DESC’ )) ; ?>

<?php if ( $the_query->have_posts() ) : ?>

<?php while ( $the_query->have_posts() ) : $the_query->the_post(); ?>

  • <?php the_title(); ?> <?php echo blu_get_post_views(get_the_ID()); ?>
  • <?php endwhile; ?>

I just get the list ordered by date. Can you help please?

    bluthemes_

    Hey there,

Although I’m not at the office and can’t look at the source right now, it looks like you just spelled “blue_post_views” instead of “blu_post_views”.

Try changing the “blue” to “blu” and it could work :)

    Absolutely amazing theme!

Any chance you are considering integrating Theia Post Slider type functionality into the theme?

About to buy your theme and will need that as well, so you know, just trying to save some bucks.

    Cheers

    bluthemes_

That’s not a bad idea, I’ll see what I can do, but this feature will probably take a bit of time, we like to make things great instead of just good enough. There’s already support for paged articles, but it’s not as advanced as this ( not AJAX, just a simple page load ). I’ve added the idea to our to-do list. Thanks for a great idea :)

    Hello!

    Quick question regarding the theme:

Is it possible to use the slider on the ‘two columns’ layout?

Thank you for your help in advance!

    Regards,

    Sebastian

    bluthemes_

Yeah, the slider always appears with a full width though, it would look like the second slider on the front page.

    Best Regards, Arnar

    Default-user

I mean will it work with two columns and a sidebar as a front page? Why would it look like there is a “second slider”?

    bluthemes_

Hmm, no it wouldn’t look like there is a second slider, I meant it would look just like the second slider on our demo ( The one under the “Popular Posts” header ) :)

    Default-user

Thank you for your reply. I do have one further question. Concerning the menu at the top, when you mouseover for example the section ‘Animals’ or ‘Categories’ there are some articles displayed to the right with their accompanying images – could you please explain which articles these are? They all seem to be part of single category – can the display of these be determined or is this done automatically?

    bluthemes_

That’s done automatically, they are fetched from the top item (in the header) which is a category. We plan on doing an AJAX call as well, so if you hover over categories in the mega menu then posts from that particular category will appear instead.

    Default-user

Again, many thanks for your replies. One further question: does this theme support an ‘All Authors’ page which has the biography of every author listed?

    bluthemes_

Yes, there is an author page which lists the authors description, full name and articles by him, you can see it by clicking the author on the demo page :)

    Default-user

Hi bluethemes. I did as you suggested and clicked on the author next to the article. However, this only shows me the page for one of the authors. I am interested in having every author together on a single page. Is this also possible?

    bluthemes_

This isn’t part of the theme, this would require some custom coding, I’ll put this on our to-do list, but it’s getting pretty big so I couldn’t promise this feature in the near future.

How do you make the homepage feature images show up like you have in your demo? I am trying to do it via Page Builder, but can’t figure it out.

Also do you have a demo content?

    Default-user

Never mind, I figured that out.

    Hey,

how would you like it, to add a like-function (Maybe a heart) near the pageviews and commentnumbers. You can also add a page, where registered users can see their liked posts (like a Favorites-page)

    Best wishes, Moritz

Hey there Moritz, that’s a pretty big idea you got there, I’ll put that in our idea bank and discuss it with my coworker when he gets home from vacation, thanks for the idea :)

Hello, i would buy this theme but i tried to test in Google Page Speed (i wanted a fastest theme) and the results are poor, 59/100 on mobile and 62/100 on desktop.

    Most of the problems are:
    • 2 blocking script resources (jquery.min.js and jscript.js) and 1 blocking CSS resources (optimize CSS delivery of fontello);
    • image formatting and compressions (losslessly compressing images).

Do you work with an update that optmize all the theme’s section speed with 100/100? Thank you.

    bluthemes_

Hey darios83, we are constantly working on improving the theme and this is one of the aspects that we are working on. To get to 100/100 it’s imperative that the sites owner use a cache plug-in for example.

So to answer your question, yes we are working on some ideas to make the page speed better :)

    Default-user

Hi, ok, so i have to wait next update, right? :)

    thank you

    bluthemes_

You could, but if your sure that you want to purchase it you can do that as well. You can always update you theme to the newest version :) We’ll do our best to provide the best experience for all our customers, if you decide to purchase please head on our to our support forum if you have any suggestions on things you want to see added! We’d love your input! :)

    Hi,

I would like to buy as well, but i have a few questions about this theme.

In homepage, i can set differents areas using columns, like “one column area, “3 columns” etc, one above the other?

    Regards,

    bluthemes_

    Hey there,

We have a page builder which you can choose how you display your posts, we have a variety of options. I’ll put in a more detailed description of the process on our demo page soon :)

I’m in love with all your WP themes. Can you tell me the main differences between Particle and Bliss? I can’t decide which one I want…my site will be a personal blog with lots of beautiful photos – very image centric, eventually selling my services…thank you!

    bluthemes_

    Thank you so much!

Honestly, Bliss is more of a personal theme and is targeted more to individual blogging while Particle is extremely image centric as you can see from the page layouts, we really tried to use the images in the posts themselves and let them enjoy themselves, for a portfolio-type website I would definitely suggest Particle.

You could also use the image tagging feature for people to rate specific parts of your image ( or to say they like something in particular ) it comes in very handy for occasions just like that :)

I purchased the theme and tested for a week in my site. It dramatically increased my server load, experiencing outages and database errors due to overload. Also Google Page Speed notes there are several blocking resources in the header, so it scores poor. One consequence of this is higher Server Load Times and poor User Page Load Times. Is there a way to make the theme lighter? I’m trying to avoid loading bootstrapmin.css and fontello.css. But the theme goes crazy. Is all bootstrap css absolutely necessary? Does it wok if I copy-paste just the needed css to style.css?

    bluthemes_

We are currently trying to lighten the load on the theme but we haven’t experienced anything this severe. The Bootstrap is necessary because of the grid, we organized fontello so that we are using only the things that we need so that shouldn’t be a problem.

Do you have a cach-ing plugin like W3-Total-Cache, that decreases the server loads significantly and raises speed.

With every update we put in comes speed improvements but we are a bit limited because of the broad audience we are trying to get to, we can’t strip anything out.

We’ve been having trouble with the blocking resources in the header as Google Page Speed says because that’s just how WordPress works really.

But as I said, we are constantly improving the theme as much as we can :)

    Best Regards, Arnar

    Default-user

I guess the server overload has something to be with the views script, because server load times increases when there are more concurrents visits. With 1-20 concurrent visits the load times are between 3-8 ms, but it increases to 10-20 ms for more concurrent visits. I think the wordpress database can’t handle this well

    bluthemes_

Interesting, I’ll try and optimize it a bit better and find a way to minimize the server load, thanks for getting back to us!

    Default-user

Maybe this will help you guessing why the theme is so slow: https://github.com/johnbillion/query-monitor

    bluthemes_

If you install a caching plugin you can minify the CSS and JS files into one file for each.

The JS that is loaded in the header that gives you the blocking message on Google Page Speed are comment-reply.min.js, jquery-migrate.min.js and jquery.js. Those files are all loaded by WP itself not the theme and pushing the to the bottom is not considered a good idea since it could break plugins that are badly written so we decided not to do that.

You can however probably find a plugin that can do that for you, just make sure nothing breaks when you activate it.

I suggest you take a good look into the caching plugins available, they are the single best thing you can use to increase the speed of your site.

Thanks for the plugin link, it looks interesting.

    Hi Blutheme,
Nice theme! :) Just one thing!
I just update to v. 1.2, and now is showing this at top of the posts (post only):
    blu_set_post_views(get_the_ID());
    Best Regards, Klaus.

    kdesign2011

Maybe the problem is the post-id in the body class <body<?php body_class(); ?>>
    Page “post id” format:
    post-id:82
    Post “post id” format:
    postid:42

    kdesign2011

I found the problem.. (temp. solution) is the “NEW” Count view W3TC_DYNAMIC_SECURITY. I just changed to the old count (on single.php Fist version). Now looks ok! and yes I’m using the last W3TC…Best Regards, Klaus.

    bluthemes_

That’s very strange, I put that in there because W3TC was preventing that function to log in the page views, so they just weren’t working with W3TC.

Try adding this to your wp-config.php file, that’s the recommended procedure but I found that it’s generally a bad idea to tell our customers to mess with it, looks like you’ll be able to handle yourself in there ;) so try it and put the “New” code in again:

    define( 'W3TC_DYNAMIC_SECURITY', 'FRAGMENT_CACHING' );

Let me know if it works

A beautiful looking theme. Is it possible to adjust the general width of the main container? I am finding it a bit too wide. Moreover, can I create a child theme too?

    bluthemes_

Oh yes, you could put this in the custom CSS and it’ll work great in mobile and all:

    .container{ max-width: 1000px }

For example, that’s actually a great feature, I might add this into the Theme Options for easy access.

Also, yes there is child theme support, actually just put that in with the latest update :)

I’m torn between this and another theme. The theme is beautiful, but the demo is overwhelmed by content showing off all that you can do with it. I’m wondering if you have any real-world examples of how others have modified this to work for their own sites? Thanks!

    bluthemes_

Hi, I am about to purchase this theme but wanted to know whether there is a way to add sliders to the two column homepage to display featured posts?

    bluthemes_

Absolutely, there’s a page builder that you can use to fetch all the posts that your heart desires, filter out by tags/categories/post-types/post-formats etc.

Thanks, also, posts do have a wide (without sidebar) template, right?

Yes, when you create a post you can choose if you want the side bar on the left, right or no side bar at all.

    Hi,

I’m considering buying either Particle or Bliss, one of the two (I’m still waiting on the update for Bliss), but for particle in particular, for the slider in the demo, when you click on the slider, the little bubble on the bottom left that indicates how many pages there are left in the slider, that doesn’t move. If I decide to buy Particle, is that fixable?

    Thanks

    bluthemes_

Hmm, I’m not sure why it’s not moving, but we’ll definitely fix that in the next update, thanks for the heads up!

THANK YOU FOR CREATING THE BEST THEME EVER. Absolutely loving it. So great to use as well. Just got a couple of feature requests.

    1. Ability to use subtitles instead of extracts under links.

    2. Ability to show no feature image in a post.

    3. A setting which automatically stops posts from re-appearing more than once on the home page (sorry that might be a bit much)

    4. Have ranking numbers next to most popular posts (like on the Bleacher Report)

    5. Setting to remove page count from being visible.

Sorry for so many requests. Thanks again!

    bluthemes_

Awesome to hear that you like Particle!

    1. Added to the to-do list, great idea. 2. Added to the to-do list. 3. That’s a pretty big one, but all it takes is a bit of thinking actually, I’ll add it to our to-do list as well 4. That’s a great idea, added! 5. That’s actually on our to-do list, I’ll move it up for you.

Don’t apologize, this is great! Thank you for your pointers. My coworker is currently on vacation so I’m kind of drowning with support and updates but we’ll try and implement this as soon as we can! Thanks again.

Thanks heaps! And the ability to remove the author from a post would be handy too :)
