Common WordPress Installation Issues

Missing style sheet error when installing the theme

A common issue that can occur with users new to installing WordPress themes is a “Broken theme and/or stylesheets missing” error message being displayed when trying to upload or activate the theme. This error message does not mean that the theme you have purchased is broken, it simply means it has been uploaded incorrectly. Luckily, there is a very easy fix.

Frequently Asked Questions

I get this message on the page “Your page layout was created with previous Visual Composer” and all my page content is messed up. What can I do?

You have to update Patti theme to version 1.3.1+. Once you update the theme, you`ll be prompted with a message to update the plugins too. Make sure to update Visual Composer plugin. Once you do that, go back to the page which shows the message and revert the content to the moment when things were looking fine, using WordPress Revisions feature: After reverting the content, update the page so changes can take effect.

A way to do update the theme is to use a plugin called Envato WordPress Toolkit:

Follow this guide to set it up:

This plugin will let you know when a theme update will be ready and you will be able to update the theme automatically, from the wp dashboard.

How can I update my theme to a newer version?

Before updating the theme, make sure to backup your current theme version, located at “wp-content/themes/patti”, using a FTP program. Also, make sure to backup the theme options too. Go to Appearance->Theme Options->Import/Export and export the options. In case you encounter any problems along the way, you can use the backed up options.

There are more ways to update the theme.

1. Manually, via WordPress Dashboard
Download the Patti package from ThemeForest and unzip it. Deactivate the current patti theme and then delete it from the wp dashboard. Upload the new theme version(Appearance->Themes->Add New button), located in the “PattiTheme” folder and activate it.

2. Manually, via FTP
Download the Patti package from ThemeForest and unzip it. Navigate to “Patti Theme” folder, unzip the “” archive and upload the “patti” folder to “wp-content/themes/” using a FTP program(i.e. FileZilla). Make sure to rename/delete the old patti theme from wp-content/themes, folder before uploading the new version.

3. Automatically, via Envato WordPress Toolkit plugin(Recommended)

Since Patti v1.3.1, Envato WordPress Toolkit plugin comes packed within the theme. If you don`t have it installed yet, download the Envato WordPress Toolkit: and upload it to “wp-content/plugins/” folder using a FTP program. Then follow this guide to set up the plugin: Once you do that, you can automatically update the theme to the latest version.

After the theme update is done, you`ll be asked to update the current plugins(RevolutionSlider, Visual Composer, etc) to their latest versions. Make sure to do that too, in order to finish the updating process.

Once you do that, you`re all set up!
