Hi, my template seems to have messed up – no matter how many times I edit the categories in wordpress. I also still haven’t been able to figure out how to add a “home” button since the day I purchased it.

I am using the standard template as I obviously have no idea how to edit etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Not trying to be a pain etc but the whole point of purchasing a template for your blog/site is because you have no knowledge of .css or html but still want to have a decent company site. I purchased in good faith from the screenshots – yet when things from the screenshot are missing im told to “edit the child theme” or use a forum which i cant view without the hassle of signing up. If i knew about child themes i’d have developed my own. So far the theme and service have been shocking from the offset and no one seems willing to take accountability or even a polite response on how to rectify it. Why make it awkward to maintain yet falsely advertise an easily to use theme?

Apologies if you’re only an employee im not trying to be rude. If there is somewhere to lodge a formal complaint or get a (partial refund) then could you advise me of where to contact. I have proof that everytime I’ve asked politely ive been treated like crap and spoken to rudely without getting help!

Since our policy is to answer these types of questions on our support forum, which in turn provides an archive for another customer who may have the same question, you were informed that was the place to post and get an answer quickly.

No. The forum site is for verified and signed in customers only. We have made a decision, as a company, that this is the best way for us to maintain support for all of our products in one centralized location. Signing up is 100% optional but we do not answer support questions via the ThemeForest commenting system. Each of our items clearly and transparently state this on the product’s detail page.

Once again, this is a clear indicator that you have optionally decided not to read the detailed, step by step installation instructions included in the User Guide.

Please let me know when you have been told to edit a child theme in reference to something that appears in the demo or screenshots. The demo is running an unaltered child theme and nothing in it is unavailable to you out of the box.

As I said this isn’t the first, or even the second, time that I have raised this issue. So yes I have read the User Guide, several times infact.

I didn’t just buy the theme and randomly post on here being ditzy. I’ve had a few issues like the search bar not fitting correctly etc and I even said to whoever replied (probably at the 5th time of asking) that if it was so much trouble for him to be polite and helpful on here despite me purchasing I’d gladly transfer funds into his, or the companies, paypal account so that I could get the help I required or just some advice to have my site functioning correctly. He totally ignored the questions and said “to get a home button you need to edit it in the child theme” – if I knew how to edit child themes I would have created my own template! How does it not register that people are using your templates because they can’t create their own? If the home button etc only works through being edited in the child theme then it shouldn’t be shown in the screen shots, as it made me believe it would be there as standard. Had I known I would have used another company.

I’m not sure what part of my post, if any, lead you to believe that I’m some sort of idiot seeing as you keep reiterating that I haven’t read the step by step guide – of course I would have read the instructions BEFORE asking for help on here how on earth do you think I even got it up in the first place?! I also read the site intently BEFORE purchasing and the product detail page, as I wanted to avoid all this drama. Although you dont tell customers that they need a code or widget to generate thumbnails, a code for the home button etc.

As I said I’m not just posting once for the sake of it. This must be my 7th time of asking and no one responding politely or acknowledging what I’ve said. I have no reason to lie, my frustrastion clearly hasn’t come from no where. But thank you for taking the time out to actually read what I’ve said this time.

I live in the UK – is there anyway to contact you via email? I even submitted one of your forms to get help with this template but haven’t had a response as yet. I’m expecting you to suggest I’m lying or imagined reading and completing the contact form, but I did.

I cannot verify, nor deny, any of the past interactions you are speaking of because this commenting system can not be queried (a primary reason we have a support website).

This is just not an answer anyone on this team would ever give. Child themes and WordPress 3 menus are completely unrelated unless you want to expand on the existing functionality. In fact, it is not an uncommon question and our stock response is “to refer to the User Guide on how to set up your WordPress menus” where we state, “… You can add custom links, pages or categories to any of your menus.” If you are continuing to have questions about this WordPress functionality, we are more than happy to point you in the right direction.

This is an error message you receive when you have attempted to use the WordPress theme uploader to upload the zip archive you received from ThemeForest. On page 5 of the User Guide, after the step by step installation instructions, it states in bold:

Do not use the WordPress theme uploader to install Periodic.

We thought we have been very clear about the installation process but, if you feel like we need to take another step for further clarification, we would be more than happy to hear your suggestions.

I empathize with your frustration and we have done everything in our power to be as helpful as possible. I cannot force you to use the tools and mechanisms we have provided for customer support. But, we will not be changing our policies nor providing support here. I have tried to address what I thought were your multiple concerns in these two comments and hopefully you will take a moment to sign up for a free account and post your questions.

Then in your next line; “This is just not an answer anyone on this team would ever give.” – so either you can or you cannot verify the interactions I have had; which is it?!

Because quite frankly I am not asking you if that is what I was told, I am TELLING you that is what I was told but whomever was posting at the time. It’s not up for debate! That was the reply I got and the reason I became frustrated. Contrary to what you may believe I don’t enjoy my site not functioning fully or having to post on here when I, as well as yourself, could be doing other things.

This is the sort of flippant attitude I refer to, no straight answers or acknowledgment that they could actually be a problem. Also you say I can email you but you wont be replying to the question – so what on earth would I email you for?! I can be ignored here – like I have been since purchasing your product. This is all very facetious for no reason at all.

Have you updated your user guide since last year and where is the updated version that you are advising me to read? I am happy to re-read it and sign up to the forum if you have. I just felt within my rights to point out that you could deal with your customers a little more sympathetically

After several comments, it was determined that the issue was related to WordPress not converting quotations in post titles to entity codes (an issue fixed in WordPress 3.3.2). I’ve had the template for more than 11 months – over a year infact (possibly 18 months). If you can tell me how I find the post I made EXACTLY TWO DAYS after purchase then I’ll gladly show you where I was told to use the child theme. Feel free to let me know how.

I’m actually not annoyed with you personally, but the general customer service I’ve received over the months so I apologise if my replies have been a little abrupt – all I need is a “home” button/tab which is clearly visible on your screen shot and an explanation as to why my search bar isn’t aligned. If it’s something simple as me not doing something in settings then by all means say, but 18 months? Ridiculous! I also have seen on here someone else posted a link to their blogand the home button was also missing so maybe it isn’t just me. Once again, apologies if you personally feel attacked thats not my aim, but at the same time I’m sure you can understand how and why it’s annoying – infact I doubt you can as you can actually manipulate the .css code.

I will update the theme now and then proceed to come back and ask why there is no “home” button on the main page yet it is in your screen shots. By a standard home button (excuse the terminology) I meant why the hell is there no button which clearly says “HOME” that my clients can click to get back to the main page after reading a post instead of having to click their browsers “back” button or my company logo. Is this clear enough?

Hi, I have re-installed the latest version theme and removed all the old versions I have previously used using FTP . as predicted and which was denied if you visit my website http://www.vflmedia.co.uk you will see that unlike the screenshot on the purchase page the is no “HOME” button and also my search bar extendeds further than the page.

All userguide instructions were followed. What is your excuse now?? And how do i get the home button. Thanks!

That seems odd. I have just checked your website in the following browsers and this is what I see.

In what browser are you still seeing your search form extend past the sidebar? There are step by step instructions for how to add a custom home page link in the forum.

Yes. Making files available for download is a function of WordPress but there is nothing in this theme for managing downloadable files.

I’ve observed a little layout disturbance in google chrome, i’ve been using version.2 and never updated to newer version from v.2 to later. Now that there is a little layout mess in google chrome. I thought this problem would vanish if I update the theme to most recent version but Imagining the demo would be updated version there is same layout problem even when demo is seen. Is it being resolved? or may be the demo isn’t update yet? are you going to resolve this layout mess with a version update? So far I’ve observed this only on chrome and never tested it on other browsers.

Releasing periodic in “Responsive version” would make it more salable product and more over, off course it can be priced higher. I’ve seen, From previous replies ” no plans to make Periodic to responsive”, having seen the replies, yet I felt like raising a request, so that it can ad up in number of requests :)

You can use the theme for video only content but the ability to change the thumbnails to playable videos will require some customization in a child theme. The carousel is an optional feature.

One of my clients is using this theme and I am working on tweaking the site a bit for him. But there seems to be alot of problems with the current theme which my client is using. :( I gone through all the pdf files that you have provided them by there are no specific files which I have to update to make the following widgets work as expected – The tab widget is not working fine and neither slider on the top of homepage seems to be working fine :( Tab is shown as a list. The slider on the top of the homepage is not clickable and neither the minimize feature of it works :( Please look at the site and suggest me are there any updation in the script that you have done, I recently update my wordpress version to the latest after I took up the task. This theme has no functionality built into it to manage file downloads but WordPress allows you to do so natively. If you need a robust downloading system, you will probably want to look at a plugin to manage your downloads.

At this time, we have no plans to make this theme responsive but you can do so in a child theme.

Unable to log into forum

I registered for the forum, entered my username and password, and just keep getting sent into an endless loop where it tells me I cant see anything because I haven’t logged in. So then I log in again, and again and agian… I’m using IE 9 . Please advise

You can optionally have a home page with a traditional blog layout or the magazine layout and there is a widget ready sidebar for the home page.
