sadly, on 17th March 2013 i discovered a bug since theme can’t handle japanese text and after more than 3 months i’m still waiting for a fix.. pexeto support always replied that they’re investigating the issue but after all this time and many theme version updates i still have my problem, a customer not satisfied and other time/work that i most probably will have to spend in finding a new theme, transferring and adapting already published content for free..

pexeto

Hi,

I have already posted a reply to your support ticket – it seems that the Cufon font that you are using doesn’t support Japanese characters, so as I suggested in there you can just use a font that supports Japanese characters or not use Cufon font replacement (you can use the standard web safe fonts or Google fonts). If you have any further questions, can you please use your support ticket to post them? Thank you.
By the way, I can see that our support member asked you around a month ago whether his solution has helped you and you haven’t replied to his comment – he has been waiting for your reply since then.

after 3 months i received your support that solved the issue, so i thank you! you can see as well from the history of that ticket that i patiently waited for solution.. but you’re wrong about the solution suggested from your staff member since he was addressing issue to WP text encoding writing this

Hi there

Yes, this has been a definite challenge to figure out. I am still not 100% sure this will work but please read through the following:

Conclusion: The key point of this exercise is to manually change the encoding to ISO-8859-1 within WordPress (don’t forget to Save Changes), insert the desired Japanese text in a post/page and have the software automatically convert the Japanese characters into their underlying hex code (6 characters) when you publish/update the post/page, and then manually change the encoding back to UTF-8 (and Save Changes).

Procedure:

1) – From the admin page, go to “Settings” – “Reading” 2) – At the bottom of the page in the box next to where it says “Encoding for pages and feeds” enter ISO-8859-1 (with hyphens, no spaces) – you are effectively replacing the default value in this box which usually appears as UTF-8. 3) – Click the “Save Changes” button. 4) – Go and create a new post or page (or edit an existing one) and from the HTML tab (as opposed to the Visual tab) insert the desired Japanese text (hiragana, katakana, kanji, or other double-byte characters) where it should go – the actual Japanese characters should appear as normal at this stage. DO NOT PUBLISH OR UPDATE the post/page yet! 5) – Just as a precaution, be sure to first select all the text in the post/page and copy it to clipboard memory (or for extra insurance dump the text into a separate text or other file) – this is just in case you lose all other content following the Japanese text after you publish/update and provides a means of recovering the content quickly and painlessly. 6) – Publish or Update the post/page (assuming you have the text already copied elsewhere as a backup), and once the publish/update process has finished you should be able to see a string of alphanumeric characters where all the native Japanese characters have been automatically converted into code (I think it is hex = 6 characters of code for each Japanese character). 7) – If you lost all the text following where the Japanese characters should have been, recover it from your backup source and start again. 8 ) – Assuming all the text is still there (with the Japanese text having been correctly converted into hex code), then view the actual post/page in your browser to confirm that the native Japanese characters appear as they should. 9) – Go back to “Settings” – “Reading” on the admin page and change the encoding back to UTF-8 and don’t forget to “Save Changes” again.

That is it.

So there should be no need for you to create extra text files and save them as UTF-8 or Unicode outside of WordPress, and you shouldn’t have to play around with your theme’s header or config files either.

In addition to that, Here is a list of the 1,945 “joyo kanji” (common use) with the code for each (note that the final semicolon is part of the code). You should be able to search for a particular kanji within this post (joyo kanji only) and look up its code.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AmkyCH91Fcm7dFlRb0drdm1ySFdFZGhxLVQ0US1vNkE&hl=en#gid=0

Please let me know if that sheds any light on this matter

Regards

and I replied this

Good morning, as you explained there is an encoding bug in your great template, I understand the procedure you wrote and I will test it, but you can realize that this could be only a temporary solution since I can not present it to my customer as the normal way to publish posts in WordPress, WP has no problems with japanese fonts..

so don’t tell me that he was waiting for my reply since then ;)

i played fairly, after 3 months you can simply admit that my ticket support wasn’t as fast as it should, that’s all!

pexeto

Hi,

I don’t want to go trough copying and pasting conversations, as there is much more going on the ticket. I just wanted to add that the first thing our support moderator suggested was that the font you use may not support Japanese characters, but you have replied that your customer uses Japanese fonts only so this led the investigation to a very wrong way and that’s why it took longer – our support moderator even had to contact a Japanese WordPress developer to get a second opinion, as he thought that the font you use supports Japanese characters. I can see that he has put a lot of effort and spent really a lot of time on your ticket. Anyway, I’m glad it’s resolved now.

sometimes simply admitting to be wrong and apologize is the best solution.. anyway, since you strongly want to defend your staff (that is still reasonable), i will go through the “copying and pasting” so other customers can create their own idea. your moderator asked for admin credentials and of course i gave them instantly so he perfectly knew which were website settings and this was his reply that you’re mentioning

Hi ieio

I have logged, so thank you for that. The only thing I can suggest is to check Google fonts for a font set that will handle the Japanese language correctly. I think the font you are currently using obviously can’t handle all of the characters correctly. Changing the permalinks seems to mess everything up too, so to be honest, I am a little confused by this issue.

I have spent quite some time trying to find something relating to this issue and can’t seem to find an explanation for this.

and until last reply he never suggested to disable cufon fonts in order to solve.. i had to change nothing in google fonts as well. there is no documentation about this issue in your theme guide so it’s totally reasonable that he just didn’t know about it, but waiting 3 months before asking help to author’s theme can’t be considered normal, in my humble opinion

pexeto

You are right – indeed he didn’t mention disabling Cufon, but he suggested trying Google fonts, which means disabling Cufon as you can’t have both Google font and Cufon font enabled for the same element at the same time. So, if you tried some Google fonts as he suggested, your issue would have been resolved on the first day. Otherwise, I admit that regardless of the course of the conversation, he should have notified us earlier about your ticket.

Anyway, I believe there has been a very big misunderstanding and I really don’t want to be arguing here. I’m sorry if it took longer to resolve your issue, as you can see from the other tickets that you have opened, we always try to resolve all the tickets as quickly as possible.

sorry, but he had admin credentials so he could have tested as well, otherwise why staff should need to login into customers’s websites? and according to actual theme guide

“With Cufon enabled, you can still use Google or standard fonts for the rest of the sections.”

therefore i couldn’t imagine this conflict. anyway i can stay without cufon so even if i wasn’t having problems in the english version website, i just disabled it.. good to know!

kind regards

Hi,

You can check the theme demo page here – it has the responsive update installed. Otherwise, if any of the users want to provide a link to their sites, we would be happy to see them :)

Hello, I use Nextgen Gallery and Justified Image Grid for my galleries. Is there a fullscreen page template in your theme like for the small grid galleries where I can include the nextgen code? Have you tested Nextgen Gallery with your theme?

Best Regards, Stefan

pexeto

Hi Stefan,

With a minor CSS modification you can remove the boxed section of any full-width standard page (like this one for example) so you can have the nextgen gallery to the full width of the window. Otherwise, I haven’t tested the theme with this plugin, but generally the theme is built according to the best plugin compatibility practices, so everything should be okay with using the plugins you like.

Hello!! I’d love to know if I can resize the lightbox to watch a vimeo video in a bigger size. I’m have interest in purchase, but, I need a theme that I can see my movies at least 720p.

Thanks!

pexeto

Hi,

The lightbox plugin used in the theme (PrettyPhoto) provides an option to change the default size of the lightbox window, so this can be easily accomplished with a minor code modification.

Hello, I love your theme so much it’s incredible design!

I have a question though, I will be using Self-Hosted Videos.

Can I make the Video Posts/Light Box with Self-Hosted videos or only Vimeo/YouTube?

Would you please be able to show me an example of this?

Thank you!

pexeto

Hi,

Thanks a lot, I’m glad you like the theme :)

Yes – the theme uses the PrettyPhoto lightbox plugin, which supports self-hosted Flash (.swf) and QuickTime (.mov) videos too. We don’t have an example of a self-hosted video on the demo, but if you want you can check the PrettyPhoto site where you can see some examples with all of the video formats supported.

Hi! just a prepurchase question.

Is it possible to customize the thumbnail sizes on the home page? I’d like to have them all different sizes.

pexeto

Hi,

The gallery is designed so that the thumbnails have a static width (can be changed for each gallery page) and the height is dynamic depending on the image ratio. By default there isn’t an option to set a different width to each thumbnail within the same gallery, as that’s how the layout is designed, however if this kind of layout is very important to you, you may also check our Expression theme which supports a gallery with different widths of the thumbnails.

Hi !
Just a prepurchase question:
Is it possible to chose the amount of thumb on the main index ? Currently there are 10, is it possible to have 20, 30… ?
Also with this index, is it possible to link the thumb to a Full width slideshow gallery instead of the slidergrid one ?
And finally: How are managed the galleries in the admin ? Is it just adding photos with the WP media tool that create gallery or is there something special to do to make it work ?
Thanks

pexeto

Hi,

Here are my answers:

- Yes, there is an option to set the number of items to load
- Yes, each item of the gallery also supports custom links, so you can link the item to another page (such as a full-width slideshow page) instead of opening a slider/lightbox.
- If you want you can watch this video to see how the gallery and its items are created. Generally the WP Media is used to add the images within the item sliders/lightbox and in the fullscreen slideshow pages as well.

I would like to buy the template and use it on my existing website. I was wondering if you can provide paid customization and set up. If yes, please let me know how can we talk.

Thank you

pexeto

Hi,

At this point we don’t provide a paid customization and setup services (I’m sorry), however the theme goes with a detailed documentation that includes instructions for setting any aspect of it and also we provide free customer support in case you experience any problems or have any questions during the setup.

jo1st

Thank you for your reply, really appreciate it.

please take a look at my current site http://giancarlomarino.com

Now this is my question.

I would purchase the template and install it on the server on a sub directory (http://giancarlomarino.com/temp) for the English site, finish the set up creating menus, galleries, contact, map, blog, home page, video following exactly the structure of my previous site. After that, I set up the Japanese part of the site with the root being http://giancarlomarino.com/jp/temp

I than enter the Japanese allover using the back end. My main concern which I don’t know the answer is:

If we need the Japanese pages to start from http://giancarlomarino.com/jp (final location once finished setting up), can we use only one database?? The URL can’t be changed, it is printed all over, composite cards, business cards and so on. Can I have one main menu in English for English and one Japanese menu for Japanese??

I can take care of uploading the photos once the galleries are set up correctly.

Once we are done the whole site needs to be moved in the correct location which is http://giancarlomarino.com and http://giancarlomarino.com/jp

Is that a problem to do or just move everything one up???

I just want to clarify that I have an extensive knowledge of web design, I’m just not that familiar with word press. I did set up Joomla before and worked with php/mysql, I just don’t have enough time to start learning Word Press right at the moment and I do need help.

Thank you for listening.

pexeto

Hi,

There are different options to accomplish this – they are not really related with the theme and all this depends on which one you are going to choose. As I understand you want to create two different sites for both languages, right? If so, you can try with installing a WordPress Multi-site Network where you can use the same WordPress installation and database, but have multiple sites. Otherwise, you may consider installing a multilingual plugin (such as WPML) so that it provides a translation for all of the data on the site. Whichever option you choose, you can have a different menu for each language version. Regarding moving the site – it still really depends on what setup you will create and how you are going to move the site – there is an extensive article on the WordPress site about how to move your site, so you can check that one if you want.

jo1st

Is this template compatible with WPML??? I was on their site but I didn’t see the template listed.

pexeto

I have done some basic testing with this plugin and it was working well, only for the grid gallery a specific category structure is required – we can provide the instructions for this structure on our support site.

Hi, I’m interested in purchasing this theme but need to work with woo-commerce… do you know if it will work or can you point me to any sites that are successfully doing this?

Thanks.

pexeto

Hi,

Generally the theme is built according to the best plugin compatiblity practices – it is not a WooCommerce theme, but as a functionality it should be working well. However, as layout WooCommerce sometimes ignores the theme layout and requires building a custom page template for its functionality – in case it is needed, they have created a tutorial about how to do this, which requires just a few modifications.

Pre-purchase question: Is it possible to batch upload 300 images along with headlines and text for individual posts. If so, tell me the best way to do it without causing glitches.

Thanks,

DougPete

pexeto

Hi,

Are you asking about blog posts and create a post for each image uploaded? If so, generally it depends on the format of the data (how the content is related to each of the images) and by default WordPress doesn’t support such kind of post bulk creation, so you may consider looking for a plugin that can accomplish this functionality for you.

Default-user

Yes, blog posts with headlines and an image to go with each post. I can prep the data as a CSV using links to all of the image which will be on a server. I’ll try to track down a plugin that will do the task. Thanks.

Hi,

I am interested in purchasing this theme, and have some questions to ask before I buy please… Does it support uploading logo as a Png or jpeg file? My logo is Squarish in size say 100 by 100pixels.

Can I upload my own fonts? Are the galleries/portfolio customizable ? Such as thumb heights and width, borders etc ?

Thank you. Looking forward for your reply

pexeto

Hi,

Here are my answers:

- Yes, both PNG and JPEG formats can be used for the logo
- Yes, you can upload custom Cufon generated fonts and also you can use any font from the Google Fonts library
- You can set a different width to the thumbnails and the heights are always dynamic depending on the default image ratio. Regarding borders – by default the gallery thumbnails don’t have a border set, so if you need to apply some custom borders, you can do this with some additional CSS.

Default-user

Thanks for your prompt reply… Since my logo is squarish, does it allow to sit nicely in the middle? I mean does template try to re-size the logo to fit in the default size as per template?

pexeto

Hi,

There is an option to set default width and height to the logo image, so you can set the size you like.

Dear Pexeto, I followed your suggestion to ask about any problem on your dedicated support system but to be honest with you that really doesn’t work that well.

I posted a ticket (12836) 2 days ago, received a really “make no sense” reply after a day which really didn’t help me at all, replied immediately to it trying to explain once again about the problem (I do apologize if my original explanation was not clear enough) and now after 17 hours still nothing.

I remember when I asked some questions on this discussion board you always replied quickly and with really helpful information, I cannot say the same for the support system.

Could you please take a look at my ticket?? I’m really trying to get my website renewal finished asap and currently I have a developer for ELANCE working on it.

Thanks A LOT, not trying to offend anyone…...

Hi,

I can see that you have posted your ticket during the weekend and as you can see on our support site Terms and Conditions page, our regular response time is within 24 hours in business days. We have two support members that spend several hours per day each and all the tickets are replied within this timeframe in the order they have been posted – although they work for long hours, due to the fact that this is a free support service, there are long queues of tickets, so it’s impossible to post immediate replies to all the tickets, however we always try to keep the promised timeframes.

Hi, PreSale question. Can this theme have a fixed width for all content and centered instead of the full browser width? I would want it to be at a 1024px max-wdith.

pexeto

Hi,

I’m not sure if I understand your question correctly – are you asking about the gallery only or all the theme pages? If you are asking for all pages, does it mean that you would like to disable the responsive layout when setting a static width?
Basically as the theme is responsive, it is easy to modify the default sizes with a few CSS modifications, but all this depends on the what exactly you would like to accomplish.
