Hello! I recently purchased your theme and I really like it, nice work!

But I have a question: How can I manually change the featured images sequence on the homepage?

Thank you very much :)

WPExplorer

Hi there,

Glad you like the theme, thanks for the purchase!

The homepage shows your galleries by order in which they are published, have a look at the following post to see how you can change their order.

Thank you! :)

Hi! I recently bought PhotoPro, it is great, thanks for it! I would like to ask a few questions hoping you could help me out: 1. I followed your instructions given to another customer on how to deactivate the automatic scrolling of the scroller page, however, when I do that, I can’t scroll through the images using the trackpad or the mouse’s scroller, only by clicking on the arrows of the page, would that be possible? 2. When using the scroller template for galleries, is there a way to deactivate the half-opaque frame that appears on the photo when dragging the mouse over it? 3. How could I decrease/increase the spacing between the menu items, can you just point me to the lines in the css? 4. When hovering the mouse on menu items, can the menu text appear in red color, not only when already clicked? And can the menu items be black instead of dark grey? Thanks in advance!

WPExplorer

1. Just like any scrollable area, you must be hovering over the area to scroll with your mouse scroller. If you require further customizing the function of the gallery script have a look at the main plugin site – http://www.smoothdivscroll.com/

2. This is an overlay you can delete it. See includes/gallery-scroller.php line 51:

 <span class="inner-border" />

Or set it to display: none; via CSS

3. Line 1171 under /menu/ heading

4. Again see the menu section starting at line 1171. Note that the gray color on links are set by the general color added in sidebar-box a{} on line 1159. To target the menu directly use .widget_nav_menu a{}

Thanks for the purchase.

Hello sir! Thanks for the answer, it has all worked out pretty well! If you don’t mind, I have a few more questions: 1. How do I change the text of the copyright note? 2. How do you I reduce the default size of the images in the masonry gallery type (I would like to have them smaller), and how can I have the same size of image for portrait and landscape in the same time? (i.e. now landscape format is rendered half the size of portrait) 3. in the theme options we can set homepage/archive gallery style to scroller or masonry type. Is there a way to separate the two gallery types? I would like to have the homepage set to scroller and the gallery to masonry. Thanks again for your amazing support! Cheers

Default-user

Oh, one more question: 4. how to make the left sidebar permanent and not to slide away when opening a gallery? Thanks!

WPExplorer

1. The copyright info should be an option in the theme panel under Appearance->Theme Options.

2. See functions/img_defaults.php – these have a specific 300px width for a reason. If you change it you might want to test on mobile devices/etc.

3. There isn’t – sorry. But you can easily change the homepage template to use scroller so then the option in the theme panel will only affect galleries – see templates/template-home.php – change where it says ”$data[‘gallery_style’]” to say “scroller”. That way when instead of checking the theme option it will just basically say “if scroller equals scroller” ;)

4. See the FAQ’s on this page. It’s not perfect, but it’s a good start for people looking to customize the template.

Default-user

Hi again! Thanks for all the answers, it all worked out pretty well with the exception of: 1. there is not option for custom copyright info under Appearance->Theme Options. 2. for some reason, i cannot insert galleries anymore in the custom menu under Appearance->Menus, I can only drag menu items from Pages and Categories. Before I also had Galleries and Gallery categories. Thanks in advance!

WPExplorer

1. I’m sorry I was looking at the wrong theme ;) Open header.php and edit line 98:

© <?php _e('Copyright', 'wpex'); ?> <?php echo date('Y'); ?>

2. Check under “screen options” tab on the top right of the menu dash. They are probably disabled.

Default-user

Sorry, got # 2. figured out, just had to tick it in screen options.

Default-user

Thanks a lot! Super quick reply! You are amazing! One more issue: My homepage template is set to single image, however, if I hover the mouse over the image with a certain speed, the arrows of the scroller template appear… How to disable that?

Default-user

I disabled the hotspots all together, so no showing on homepage anymore.

RE: your instruction from above = “2. See functions/img_defaults.php – these have a specific 300px width for a reason. If you change it you might want to test on mobile devices/etc.”

I have been playing around a lot with the sizes and layouts with both img_defaults.php and style.css and I just cant figure out how to get a layout like this: http://www.jaimehogge.com/recent#/t/5

WPExplorer

Hey there, sorry for the delayed response.

  • Glad you got the hotspots sorted out.
  • That’s pretty much identical to the masonry on the theme, but with smaller image. If you show me what you have now, I can point you in the right direction, but its hard for me to assist without knowing what you currently have setup.
Default-user

Thanks! I have got masonry set up with the only difference being from default option is the 200px size instead of 300px at two locations for image width:

1. in stylesheet.css /masonry entry/ .masonry-entry { float: left; width: 200px; margin-right: 5px; margin-bottom: 5px;

2. in img_defautls.php //masonry gallery entries if( $args 'masonry_entry_width' ) return '200'; if( $args ‘masonry_entry_height’ ) return ‘9999’; if( $args == ‘masonry_entry_crop’ ) return false;

the linked website above has smaller images, but it also organises them (fills in the screen) horizontally, and not vertically like our current masonry setup… Thanks in advance! Much obliged…

WPExplorer

Ok so basically what you are asking is to make the masonry full-width and not centered?

So I’m assuming you mean the single galleries, because the homepage is full-width by default.

Take a look at the “single-masonry” class, it’s got a fixed width.

Default-user

I would like to have the masonry full-width and with a fixed height… If you re-size your browser window here: http://www.jaimehogge.com/recent#/t/5, the images will move around… but I am not sure it is still masonry… or if masonry can be set up so as to behave like this?

WPExplorer

ya, i’m not seeing much difference between what you are showing me and the theme: http://www.wpexplorer.me/premium/photopro/masonry-homepage/ – which is what’s confusing me.

Default-user

hey,

- the theme’s masonry has three fixed-width vertical columns in which the images are filled… all the images are re-sized to the column’s width, then filled in, then images keep their original aspect ration after the cropping, that is why they differ in height.

- the gallery at the link I sent has fixed-height horizontal rows (as opposed to fixed width columns of the theme), so images are re-sized to a fixed height size of the row and filled into the rows. so images differ from each other in terms of width…

I admit it is a bit confusing, but do you see the difference now?

WPExplorer

Oh gotcha now. You want to resize your images horizontally rather then vertically.

This is pretty easy edit.

1. Open functions/img_defaults.php
2. Take a look at lines 53-56:

//masonry gallery entries
if( $args == 'masonry_entry_width' ) return '300';
if( $args == 'masonry_entry_height' ) return '9999';
if( $args == 'masonry_entry_crop' ) return false;

Change the 300 width value to 9999 that tells the images they can have any width.

Change the 9999 height value to the fixed height you want.

Default-user

yes, exactly! I have changed the values according to your instructions, however the result is pretty weird (i have put 9999 to width and 300 to height): http://balazsmaar.com/gallery/the-wild-fairy/ 2 issues I see right away: 1. landscape format images does not get the resize (or ger it on their width) 2. there is still a 3 fixed sized column grid in which the images are fit, the images do not float closer to each other, they are aligned to the 3 column grid…

Default-user

WPExplorer

Wow weird, your comment was added 3 times!

You need to edit your CSS (sorry, I assume if someone is editing their own site they at least know CSS, otherwise they would hire a designer).

Have a look at how the page is setup. You’ll notice there is still fixed widths on your divs. See style.css line 674:

/*masonry entry*/
.masonry-entry {
    float: left;
    width: 300px;
    margin-right: 5px;
    margin-bottom: 5px;
}

You’ll want to change the fixed width and add a fixed height. Also, the columns are centered. have a look at line 839 in style.css:

/*Single Masonry*/
.single-masonry {
    padding-left: 40px;
    padding-bottom: 40px;
    margin: 0 auto;
    width: 915px;
}

to make full-width you’d want to remove the width, add enough padding so it has room for the sidebar next to it on the left and maybe add some additional right-side padding.

Default-user

Hi, thanks for this! It looks like masonry is not capable of doing what I am asking for because of the predefined columns, there is another layout from isotope called “fitRows”, which would do the job I think… but installing that is over my competencies… Thanks for all the help anyways! Really much appreciated! Cheers

WPExplorer

No, it should work. You just need to change your CSS to give your single-masonry div’s a fixed height and set width to auto.

Default-user

I did that, in some galleries it looks fine, but here for example, there is this weird white spacing between some images: http://balazsmaar.com/gallery/the-wild-fairy/

This is my current setup:

style.css:

/masonry entry/ .masonry-entry { float: left; height: 200px; width: auto; margin-right: 5px; margin-bottom: 5px; }

.masonry-entry img { display: block; align: left; max-height: 100%; width: auto; box-shadow: #000 0em 0em 0em; -webkit-transition: all 0.25s ease-in-out; -moz-transition: all 0.25s ease-in-out; -o-transition: all 0.25s ease-in-out; }

image_defaults.php:

//masonry gallery entries
if( $args  'masonry_entry_width' ) return '9999';
if( $args  'masonry_entry_height' ) return '200';
if( $args == 'masonry_entry_crop' ) return false;
WPExplorer

I’m thinking the issue is since the images don’t have a defined width, isotope can’t get their correct dimensions as you were saying.

What if you remove isotope?

includes/gallery-masonry.php – delete line 14:

wpex_load_isotope_scripts();
Default-user

Yessss!!! It does work now! Thanks!!!! Except at the gallery archive page, see: http://balazsmaar.com/gallery-category/lookbooks/ I guess an isotope line will need to be removed for that as well, I tried removing it at the home page template php, that did not help…

WPExplorer

Yes, have a look at taxonomy-gallery_cats.php line 29.

hey, great theme! ... I am setting it up currently. one question I came across and couldn´t find in the documentation: if I set a gallery on “scroller”, i.e. in the sliding-presentation mode, is there any way to retain the image title or description, so it can be seen somehow to the visitor; either by default or in interaction with the gallery? (otherwise this would be a serious drawback of this kind of gallery, which is otherwise so nice/practical)

thanks for help already + best regards! oliver

WPExplorer

Hi Oliver,

If you look at the flexslider version you can see that one shows the image title at the top. You can copy the code in there to paste into the scroller style.

You’ll find all the gallery files in the includes folder.

The code to show an image title would be like this:

<?php echo $wpex_gallery_single_attachment->post_title; ?>

It would be really easy to add to the gallery. My suggestion would be to actually add it inside a div positioned absolutely over the image like an overlay on the bottom or something.

Would like to see what you come up with ;) I personally prefer the clean look with just the photos.

Thanks for the purchase!

lerone_b

hey WPEx, thanks – that was prompt! ... and helpful!

I agree there is an aesthetics/style question here. personally I would prefer if there is a “mouseover” or other interactive title, whenever the “scroller” doesn´t… scroll. because like you I see the point in having a clean look, and avoiding sliding titles! ... but then if you give people an exhibition (or set) they eventually want/need to know what they are seeing. as there is already this fantastic option to stop/interact the sliding scroller presentation, that – in an ideal world – would be where image-infos come in/make sense… – but this already helps a lot; i will test & tinker; and post what I come up with (depending whether I find a pleasing solution… ;-) !

thanks again. that quick help is appreciated! oliver

Hey, it’s me again. Stupid question, but is better if i ask. It supports videos? It is possible to upload a video gallery? Thanks

Nicole

WPExplorer

Please have a look at the video overviews on the theme page description.

I’m using core WP functions for the images (because its better) but unfortunately WP doesn’t have a method to store non-selfhosted videos as part of the media library.

You could only add videos if you use the “Plain” gallery format and insert the video into the post editor.

nicolecurioni

sorry my english is not that good…. can i insert videos like from vimeo or youtume?? like iframes? Sorry…

WPExplorer

Only in the “Plain” gallery post (watch the video on the theme page) and in blog posts. The scroller, flexslider, masonry galleries don’t support it.

Pre purchase question. I think this is the kind of image grid I’ve been looking for.

What I want to accomplish is something similar to this site. http://simplicityphotography.com/blog/

A WP blog with images in masonry style for each post. Is this something I can do with this plugin?

Thanks

Based on what you showed me I’m not quite sure its a fit for you. Of course I would like the sale, but I’m a nice guy ;) Have you checked out the titled gallery by Jetpack?

That might be exactly what you need and should work with almost any theme.

Lovely theme. Quick pre purchase question (apologies if this has been answered—I read through the comments and didn’t see it)

Can the “read more” function on the blog be disabled so that the full post shows instead?

WPExplorer

By default the blog shows the excerpt, its possible to do what you ask but you’d have to edit 1 file to remove the excerpt function and change for the_content function & delete the read more link.

This is a very simple edit I could for sure help you with on the support site.

Cara wanted to buy your theme, but I need to know, I can click on the image to go home for a post? and the menu never hide?

WPExplorer
  • I don’t understand the first question…you mean the logo?
  • Always visible sidebar will take some customization. I’ve provided a starter guide for this in the FAQ section of this page.
mudepublicidade

effects of the photos link can go to a page instead of a gallery?

WPExplorer

You can remove the ajax functionality and link directly to the gallery if you wish. Simply will require removing the ajax file call (i line in scripts.php).

This is what a single gallery would look like:

http://www.wpexplorer.me/premium/photojax/galleries/travels/

Of course you can also cut out the gallery function if you just want simple posts.

An awesome feature in the future would be to allow lazy loading of images in the slider. The more images a client puts in a gallery the longer it takes for the slider to load all of those images. Somehow if it would show the slider after maybe the first 5 or so images loaded, then the other images could load afterwards. At least the option would be nice.

WPExplorer

I’m actually using a pretty complex scrolling plugin for this theme’s scroller… http://www.smoothdivscroll.com/ .. I’m not sure how to do the lazy load, but I’ll look into it.

My new PhotoJax theme does have lazy load in the slider ;)

Two more pre-purchase questions:

1. I’m assuming the logo is sizable? (to accommodate a logo that’s higher than it is wide?)

2. How difficult would it be to create a blank top menu item with drop down options? (For example, a menu item that says, “Weddings” that doesn’t link to anything but has drop down options that say things like “Bob and Sally” , etc.?

Apologies if these have been asked before… perhaps I missed it in prior comments.

Faith

WPExplorer

Hi Faith,

1. The logo can be any height you want but it is currently set to max-width: 100% so it doesn’t go outside the sidebar bounds.

2. When you say “drop-downs” do you mean sub-items like shown in the demo? Or do you actually mean a jQuery drop-down. If you mean the latter, then it really depends on your skillset. Since there are no jQuery drop-downs included you’ll have to add it or pay someone to add it, so the difficulty is going to vary.

Default-user

Thanks for the speedy reply! RE: #2—forgive me, I’m not finding the technical term of it, but I don’t want the top menu item to click to a live link. Just to expand to drop down menu options.

So for example, let’s say the top menu item says “Info”—there is no “info” page, so instead of clicking on that taking me to an “info” page, I’d want clicking on “info” in the menu to open a nested or drop down menu that gives options for different kinds of information (pricing, bio, etc.).

WPExplorer

Well basically on any site you can just use a # symbol for the URL so it won’t link anywhere.

But this theme has no toggle/drop-down style menus as you can see from the demo. So this will need to be added either manually of via a plugin.

Default-user

Thanks! I didn’t know the # trick. MUCH appreciated!

Not sure if this was covered yet but is there a way to fix/lock the left hand navigation instead of having to open / drop it down from the TLHC?

WPExplorer

There isn’t a built-in option for this. But if you look at the FAQ for this page I’ve showed you some basic CSS to help anyone looking to customize that.

Great theme! I’m looking to keep things very simple- just 1 scrolling gallery on the homepage. I would like it if the images were NOT link-able to anything further.

Am I overlooking an easy solution to this?

WPExplorer

Use the template “Homepage – Single Gallery” for your homepage. This will allow you to upload images to that page (attachments) to show on the front-page just like a regular gallery.

Default-user

I knew it would be easy! I have one more quick question, couldn’t find it answered anywhere else. Is there a quick way to speed up the auto scroller? Thank you!

WPExplorer

You’ll have to edit js/scroll_init.js and add a new parameter “autoScrollingStep” but making it faster can also make it seem less “smooth”. Have a look on the jQuery plugin site for all available options – http://www.smoothdivscroll.com/options.html

Hi there, really happy with the theme. You did a great job and I especially appreciate your documentation within the code to make editing a lot easier. I would recommend to anyone considering this theme to go for it.

Anyway two questions:

1. How can I add a custom.js file to the theme?

2. I was trying to write jQuery in Chrome’s console (just to test out some ideas), but the ”$” is read as undefined, despite the fact that I can see jQuery 1.8.3 loading in the scripts section. Do you have any insight into this problem?

WPExplorer

Glad you like it! Thanks for the kind words ;)

1. To load scripts in WordPress you actually use the enqueue script function – see how I do so in functions/scripts.php line 52. You can duplicate this line and edit it for your needs and then literally paste it wherever you need js loaded. Example if you are loading custom js on your homepage you can paste the function in templates/homepage.php.

2. When working with WordPress you should write your jQuery in non-conflict mode. Example:

jQuery(function($){
   $(document).ready(function(){
       /* YOUR CUSTOM JS */
   });
});

Hope that helps!

Hi there, I’m hoping there’s a way to change the background of the sidebar to a texture by using a background image. I would like to have a vertically repeating image along the sidebar and the main page background to remain white, but with the settings I have I can only apply the texture to the content background. Any help is much appreciated.. Thanks!

WPExplorer

Definitely. You can see from the “earth” and “blue” skins in the demo that it’s possible. You should be adding your background via CSS targeting the #content-left div.

Default-user

Thank you so much for the ridiculously quick reply! I am also a bit confused as to how I should be setting up my custom menu for the sidebar.. (can you tell I’m new to WP?) I have all of my pages created but can’t seem to make my custom menu appear instead of the default widgets. Thanks!

Default-user

Also, in the custom CSS box in Theme Options I’ve added the following:

content-left {

background:url(background4.jpg); }

However, I have no background. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

WPExplorer

1. For the menu, add the menu under Appearance->Menu. Then you can use the custom menu widget to add to the sidebar.

2. I can’t really know what’s going on with the background, you’ll have to share the URL if you’d like me to have a look – you could open a private ticket at wpthemehelp.com if you prefer.

Default-user

URL is alycephotography.uni.me, I’ve got the menu widget up, however I have 3 galleries created within the parent page ‘Gallery’ and cannot seem to get the menu to work with my sub-galleries.

WPExplorer

There doesn’t appear to be any image named background4.jpg in the root directory of your theme which is what you are trying to do in your CSS. Edit url(background4.jpg) to point to where your image is located.

Not sure about the menu question…If you are creating multiple galleries make sure to do it using the built-in gallery categories.

Default-user

Thanks so much for all of your help, I just noticed the built in gallery categories, but how do I include them in my custom menu like you’ve done in your setup video? And how do I create tiered menu items like in the example? Thanks

WPExplorer

You can either use the custom URL option in the menu builder to link to your categories. But there should also be a little module for them on the left of the menu dashboard. If you don’t see it you click on “Screen Options” tab on the top right and make sure the checkbox next to it is selected.

To create tiered menu items you simple click a menu item while in the menu dashboard and drag it under the menu item you want to be a parent.

you can hide it with CSS usign “display:none;” but best is to remove manually – open single-gallery.php and delete lines 77-113 – under the title “Pop-Up More Gallery Browser Window”.

can’t get this to work, is that definitely the correct lines, I get an opacity box over the gallery. BTW I’d still like to keep the about box, is that possible?

Back again! This time, trying to figure out how to keep the Copyright section from overlapping the sidebar widgets on smaller screens. One of the site visitors is viewing the site on a 13” netbook and the copyright section overlaps some of the galleries.

I noticed that the copyright section is set as position fixed to the bottom of the page which seems to be causing the overlap. If I change it to position relative, it keeps spacing away from the galleries widget but on larger screens it won’t stick to the bottom.

Any suggestions?

Sorry for the delay,

Your site is looking great!

Did you fix up the issue? Seems to me like your sidebar is cleaned up enough that this shouldn’t happen. Can you confirm?

Thanks for checking in and the compliments!

Unfortunately this still happens on the 13” screen.

I think the best would be to simply hide this info on smaller screens (is that fine for your client?) with some custom CSS.

You could use something like this:

@media screen and (min-width: 768px) and (max-height: 800px) {
  #copyright{ display: none !important; }
}

That is a great solution! Maybe I can even use that to make #copyright to be position:relative under those conditions?

I admit I was not familiar with CSS Media Types until you reminded me they exist. Now reading up on them @ http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_mediatypes.asp

Will that work with position relative as identified above?

WPExplorer

Oh ya you could do that as well ;)

Everything you add inside the media query should apply.

Incredible. The theme was a fantastic purchase alone. The support is the free dessert!

Thank you.

Hi, is there a way to make a masonry gallery be more than 3 columns? I notice on the live preview of the theme the masonry homepage is 5 columns and it reflows as you resize the browser, it’s be really nice if the galleries did this too.

cheers jamie

Hi Jamie,

There was a reason why I did it this way, but can’t quite remember anymore why it was ;)

You can expand that area with the following custom CSS:

.single-masonry{ width: 100%; padding-right: 30px; -moz-box-sizing: border-box; box-sizing-box-sizing: border-box; }

Hi, I just recently purchase your theme and I really love it. I have a question. Is there a way I can turn off the Auto Hide function of the sidebar? And remove the “Gallery” or “Info” box inside the gallery? And also where do I edit the Copyright section? can’t find it inside.. and one last thing. I need to show a certain gallery on my homepage such as BOOK I, BOOK II.. is there a way I can show them in the homepage without being “set”. I know you said in the documentation that we can, but can’t find the UPLOAD THIS IMAGE TO THIS POST thingy.

THANKS!!!
