Child Themes?

I need to make some major changes to the header of this theme to accomodate a block on info. I intended to do this by creating a child theme but each time I create the child theme everything breaks.

Any thoughts on how best to create a child theme with this theme?

SwiftIdeas

Hi Mark,

All you need to do to make the child theme work is change functions.php line 113 to:

wp_register_style('main-css', get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . '/style.css', array(), '1.0', 'screen');

We’ve included that for the next update. The header.php within your child theme should work fine – we’ve got users that have used a child theme and it’s worked perfectly.

What breaks?

Hi, I have installed the revolution slider and layered a .png image over a you tube video. It works perfectly in all browsers except for IE8 & IE9. The video is showing but no the layered image. Any idea why this may be?

Thank you!

SwiftIdeas

Hi there,

It’s likely a limitation in IE8/9, unless it’s a known bug with Revolution Slider. My guess would be the former, unfortunately!

Hi, I had originally embeded the youtube code as html instead of pasting a new video layer and entering the video id. Ive since corrected this and it works! Thank you

Hi. I have two questions. How do I link my image using “single image element”? Also, how does “code snippet element” work? I tried pasting a code into the element, but it doesn’t turn into a button. It simply stays as code. Thank you! N.

Default-user

Ed, thank you for addressing my questions. I uploaded the image using the “single image element,” however, I don’t see the option of adding a link to the image. Where do I find it? Thank you. N.

Default-user

Ed, I’ve updated the theme, and now I am able to add a link to the image. Thank you!

Great :)

I’ve edited the header, but I have no idea how to edit the footer. I’ve selected the footer layout in the “footer options,” but I don’t see any way to edit the footer. Please, help. Thank you!

SwiftIdeas

Hi there,

If you check Appearance > Widgets, you will be able to add widgets to the footer columns here.

Hi, How can I increase the size of the phone number in the header and make bold?

SwiftIdeas

You can add and edit the following css to Pinpoint Options > General Options > Custom CSS:

.header-items h3.phone-number {
font-size: 12px;
font-weight: bold;
}

Hope that helps.

Hi please disregard my previous question, I would actually like to know how I can increase the font size of the menu items in the navigation bar in the header? Thank you!

SwiftIdeas

You can add and edit the following css to Pinpoint Options > General Options > Custom CSS:

nav .menu li {
font-size: 12px;
}

How do I go about configuring what appears in the blog widget that I insert via the Swift Page Builder? I’d like to turn off the option to display the post details. If there is no config option, where is it located in the code?

Thanks

SwiftIdeas

Try giving this ago. Edit single-portfolio.php and try changing line 176-179 with the code here: http://pastie.org/private/7ynlsx5slnixh0mbapunq

Let me know.

Hi Ed—that didn’t seem to work. The only thing it did was to make the pagination disappear. Is there code that will only show the next item of the same category?

SwiftIdeas

That was meant to do so, and follows the standard WordPress function. I think this is a bug within WordPress. Can you install this to hopefully fix it – http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/previous-and-next-post-in-same-taxonomy/

Let me know. If not, I have another idea :)

Hi. This theme looks incredible, looking at purchasing, just one hesitation, I’m wanting to include a prominent sign up form (email and name fields) on the front page in the slider area, is this a widget included already or something I would need to create?

I tempted to just purchase anyway. Great work guys.

Thanks

SwiftIdeas

Hi there,

Thanks for the kind words and your interest.

You can paste code within a layer on the revolution slider in the provided box. We’ve had someone do this before and it worked perfectly :)

Hope that helps.

Portfolio in this theme can be sortable by horisontal string of tags (or categories) – or only dropout menu? ( i need to show all categories of portfolio at the same time)

Default-user

filtering is performed with only the aid of a drop-down menu – or all of the tags can be displayed anywhere in the string of portfolio?

Default-user

or: can i filter portfolio works without drop-down menu?

SwiftIdeas

We are thinking about adding an alternative display option in the next update.

Truly powerful theme and i love it! I want to switch from Gridlocked premium theme and now i am deciding between premium Gentle wp theme and this one :) If you could honestly tell me that i can achieve similar look with your theme (and get lot more features in one bundle) i am definitely going for this one. However i have few pre purchase questions. First two are crucial for me.

1. I really love the font used in “Gentle WP theme”. Could i replicate the same look in your theme? http://mpcreation.pl/themeforest/gentle/masonry-sidebar-left/ When loading Pinpoint it show old font for about one second and then it switch to webfonts (it will be noticable and not desired with slower connections with mobile) Is it possible to set loading of fonts to higher priority with some minor tweaks and support from you? This could be dealbreaker for me. Gentle theme doesn´t seems to have this issue and they are also using google fonts, i suppose.

2. Main reason i want to quit with my Gridlocked theme is that it´s way too complicated to create simple post with image or video. With video i needed to set custom embed code with certain size for main blog view, and different one for single post view. Similar with images. Does your theme interpret this automagically? :) For example with simple image and text post, could i create new blog post, just insert image, publish and your theme would handle all the stuff and display it correctly in masonry blog view?

3. Feature you have discussed previously about portfolio would be appreciated. I would love to disable dropdown filter menu for portfolio and see all portfolio categories aligned and visible in one line. Sidebar with portfolio (as it is used in Gentle theme) would be awesome too but maybe it´s too much to ask :)

4. I believe there is some bug in your example pages :) Above slider on main view there is some small little dot, it is appearing in all example pages. http://themes.swiftpsd.com/index.php?theme=pinpoint It´s not appearing in your main demo site, so i guess it is some small issue.

Hope you don´t fall asleep while reading :) and looking forward to your answers to help me decide which theme to choose. Thanks

SwiftIdeas

Hi there,

Thanks for your interest :)

1) I can’t see any loading issues when viewing from my side. Can you let me know what setup you are seeing this on? We are too using Google Fonts.

2) Yes, we take all the difficulty out of it. If you want a video, you just provide the URL, and we do the rest. Same with an image. You pick one from your library / upload one, and it will be resized to fit the space.

3) We have received a few requests for this, so will see what we can do about getting it into v1.5 :)

4) Can you email me a link to the direct page for this, so that I can see where you are referring to please?.. It’s likely using old code, that we haven’t updated yet (but is fixed in the theme).

Hope that helps :)

Ed,

Is it possible to add links to the bottom of the page? In the area where the copyright is? When I add the footer and put a widget like “pages” it seems to just list all my links, but makes the footer stretch long. So maybe if there is a way to add some html in the copyright area would be a nice addition, or maybe adding the ability for a footer menu.

SwiftIdeas

Hi there,

You could paste the links in a text box widget in the footer? Or use the “Custom Menu” widget?

Hope that helps.

- Ed

Quick Q, this should be simple: I can see how to set the background image for the page itself, but I want to set a background image for where the text content is presented. So not the HTML body, but the container itself. How can I do this?

SwiftIdeas

Hi there,

You can add a background to the following selector:

#container {}

Hope that helps :)

Quick suggestion: the Google Fonts dropdown menu in the admin is really slow! Hard to use too, there are just too many fonts. I’d almost rather just browse the Google Fonts site, find what I like, and then copy/paste the name or something into the Pinpoint admin. This would be much easier.

Or maybe somehow revise the selection menu. There are just way too many fonts to cram into that little pulldown.

SwiftIdeas

Thanks for the suggestion. It’s on the list to look at things to improve, which we’ll hopefully get to once the more important things are done :)

- Ed

Default-user

Been thinking about this some more. It would be best, I think, to just have a pulldown menu or a list, without rendering the fonts.. just show them as plain text. And then maybe just have a link to the Google Fonts site so we can preview fonts there. As it is now, it is rather slow and sluggish.

Thank you!

SwiftIdeas

Will get this improved in the next version :)

My last question for today, hopefully :) How do I style the top nav? I want to change the font and font size (separate from the body font), change the height of the navbar to fit a bigger font, without breaking anything.

SwiftIdeas

You can style the font size and nav size by using the following custom css:

nav .menu li {
font-size: 12px;
line-height: 18px;
}

The font uses the body font, if you’ want to use a different font then you’d need to change this manually.

Hello. Congratulations for this great theme.

With the import options of Wordpress I’ve set up in local the theme to look exactly like the main demo, but the revolution sliders doesn’t appear (“Revolution Slider Error: Slider with alias homesliderthin not found”). Are they included in the demo? How can i set up them?

Thanks in advance

Hello, is there any way to set a private area? please.

Thanks

SwiftIdeas

Hi there,

Sure. All you need to do is set the visibility of the page (where the publish options are) to password protected.

Hope that helps :)

First off, awesome work. Great theme to work with!

A few questions.

1. I have versions 1.0 and see that version 1.4 is available. It says I will lose all customization of my site if I upgrade. Does that include all the PinPoint Page Layouts? How can I prevent losing what I’ve done?

2. I have my Blog page set up with the page layout and “Blog” option in the layout. The style does not change from Standard, Mini, Masonry when I change it, and no images show up on the Blog page. Featured images to not appear. Only images I “insert into post” show up for that post, but I don’t want that. I’ve uploaded images every which way and no luck.

3. The FAQ section doesn’t show up when I add it to a page layout, but there are around 10 FAQ that I have added to that option.

4. Is there a way to turn off the slide transition effects and just have them ‘slide’?

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help, have a great weekend!

Default-user

Thank you so much!

Theme Update, Blog and FAQ are all set, thanks!

For the Slider effects I have it on my homepage and it does all the flashy transitions/fades etc… Just want a normal slide show.

Thanks for all your help, greatly appreciated.

Brian

SwiftIdeas

Hi Brian,

I’m guessing your using the Revolution slider? If so, you need to edit the slider, and the slides within. At the top of each edit slide screen, you will find the transition animation selector.

Hope that helps.

Hi Ed,

On a blog post I would like to link the comment icon to the #comment-area id (like it does on an archive page). How can this be done?

Also, is it possible to disable the ‘Love it’ functionality? Right now I am setting .comments-likes .love-it-wrapper to display:none.

Last question (for now :-)), are there any plans to add more hooks to pinpoint?

P.S. Thanks for an awesome theme!

Regards, Alex

SwiftIdeas

Hi there,

Are you referring to the count within the post?

You can disable the love it functionality by removing line 46 from functions.php:

include(SF_INCLUDES_PATH . '/plugins/love-it-pro/love-it-pro.php');

No plans at the moment, but maybe in the future!

You’re welcome! :)

We are redesigning our website and have lots of java script. Before I purchase I have questions. Specifically we use it to allow small banner ads to rotate as a page is refreshed, along with other java script on our site.

1. Can I incorporate java script into this theme? 2. It is already set up for Woocomerence. In your documentation does it explain how to connect to paypal? Thank you Rick

Thank you. Can I change the colors of the background to any color? Do you also have documentation for all the attributes and instruction for uploading? Thank you

SwiftIdeas

Yes you can change the background to any colour. We have documentation on uploading, but not sure what attributes you are referring to?
