Common WordPress Installation Issues

Missing style sheet error when installing the theme

A common issue that can occur with users new to installing WordPress themes is a “Broken theme and/or stylesheets missing” error message being displayed when trying to upload or activate the theme. This error message does not mean that the theme you have purchased is broken, it simply means it has been uploaded incorrectly. Luckily, there is a very easy fix.

I can successfully attach different colors to categories, but the little colored corner on the menu doesn’t appear, why is that?

Those little colored corners are added separately because you may want to add other menu items that are not categories and give them a color anyway.
To make it appear you need to set the desired hex color code in the description field of the menu item as explained in the documentation.

Note: If you can’t see the description field you can enable it by activating it from the Screen Options at the top right of the “Setting > Menus” admin page.

Why does my FeedBurner Counter shows 0 subscribers?

The Feedburner service is a problem, right now: Google has shut down the Feedburner API as of October, 20th, as far as I know. Some weeks before that date, it started to return “0” for all feeds.

Everything looks like Google is about to abandon Feedburner. Or they’re working on something totally new. Who knows?

That said, there is currently no way of getting the feed stats from Feedburner for SocialBox.

I decided to leave the Feedburner counter on the SocialBox Premium Widget for now, in case someone still wants to display his subscribers by manually entering the value in the “Default” field. This option may be removed in future versions though.

I add a featured image and I like how it shows up on the sliders and post thumbnails. Is there anyway to not have it show up in the posts?

You could achieve that by pasting this snippet in the Advanced > Custom CSS textarea:

How did you make that cool trick with the PowerMag logo changing color?

Well that’s kind of a trick for demo purposes, good news is that your theme is already set up to do the same if you want to!
The PowerMag logo is basically a transparent png file where the word “Mag” is a ‘hole’ and the div background color changes according to the category color. To replicate it without editing theme files you should add the following in the Advanced tab and enter:

Custom jQuery (adds .demologo class to the logo image, do not change the class name):

Finally edit the width and height of .demologo with your logo size.


I need to remove the small gray border around inserted images. It is appearing on everything including png’s and partner/client logos. Can you tell me how to do that?

I can’t see post excerpts for posts created with the Visual Composer, why is that?

Excerpts for posts made with the Visual Composer need to be set manually as WordPress won’t execute shortocodes in post previews.

If you can’t see the Post Excerpts textarea you need to enable it from the “Screen Options” on the top right on the post editor page.

What is the best way to update the theme without losing my settings on the Theme Options?

Please note: make a backup of the Theme inside your WordPress installation folder /wp-content/themes/powermag/

To update the Theme, login to ThemeForest, head over to your downloads section and re-download the theme like you did when you bought it.

Extract the zip’s contents, look for the extracted theme folder, and after you have all the new files upload them using FTP to the /wp-content/themes/powermag/ folder overwriting the old ones (this is why it’s important to backup any changes you’ve made to the theme files).

If you didn’t make any changes to the theme files, you are free to overwrite them with the new ones without the risk of losing theme settings, pages, posts, etc, and backwards compatibility is guaranteed.
