Will you offer a WP version with a more interactive blog, instead of the static html/css here?

Btw, for some reason the Page Speed score (77) is not as high as in your Spark theme (93), even though the technology seems similar:

https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights#url=http_3A_2F_2Fwww.maddim.com_2Fdemos_2Fproject-source_2F&mobile=false

It seems the spriting is yet to be done – are you planning to do so?

Thanks – very nice!

Hi sergioturner,

Thanks for your message! Yes I’m working on a WordPress version of this template and it will include a fully functional blog — By the way, I have updated the Spark WordPress Theme and it now have complete blog capabilities right from the backend and out-of-the-box, check it out – there’s a demo video of the backend on the item description page ;)

Regarding your question about performance, I have divided the images into two parts: the images used for the interface itself – which are merged altogether using the sprite technique, and the icons that are part of the customizable content – which are not sprited together. I chose to leave them independent because each person will use different icons (from the 800 icons included) and it wouldn’t make sense to sprite so much icons together.

Anyone can still use this Sprite Generator to combine the icons they’re using into one image: http://spritegen.website-performance.org

Using a small amount of icons, or spriting them together results in a Google Page Speed score of up to 95!

I hope that answers your question, please feel free to let me know if you have any further question, I’ll be happy to help ;) Best, Jonathan

Hi, I noticed that you did an update for your other template “spark” so that you can have the fixed-header when you view it on a mobile device, have you done the same update to this template yet?

Hi ma5h3d,

Thank you for your comment! Yes I have just updated the “Project Source” template, check out the changelog on the item description page!

If you’ve already started customizing the template, you can keep your customization and only replace the CSS and JS files with the new ones, as the HTML didn’t change since the last version.

I hope that answers your question, please feel free to let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with, I’ll be happy to help ;) Best, Jonathan

Hi john, Could you please tell me what I need to change to fix the header for mobiles. Everything seems very well commented but I can’t seem to find it as an option.

Hi ma5h3d,

Thanks for your comment! When the site is seen on a recent mobile device, the header will be in fixed position, however it will automatically switch to a static positioning if the site is seen on an older mobile platform where fixed positioned elements are not very well supported or not supported at all.

I hope that answers your question ;) Please feel free to let me know if you have any further question, I’ll be happy to hear from you! Best, Jonathan

Ok, I think i’ve found my issue but i’ve got another couple of questions..

I’m testing this on android 2.3 and (as your comments clearly state) fixed positioning isn’t properly supported. But, I really want that menu bar at the top of the screen. Now, i’m looking at line 36 of the v1.1.js file (the “Not a modern-mobile, but still a mobile” section) and if I change “supportPositionFixed” to “true” it seems to work (it just jumps into place when the page stops scrolling) on my phone. So, while this isn’t the most visually attractive solution, it’s still a working option.

My first question is: If I change this will it behave the same on other devices that don’t support fixed positioning correctly, or is it just a bad idea?

And secondly: Would it be possible to make that menu bar “ease” into place (if fixed positioning isn’t supported) when the page scrolls instead of just jumping? I’m not asking you to do this for me, i’m just wondering if you’d already thought of it and decided against it for some reason?

Thanks.

Hey ma5h3d,

Let me try to answer your questions. The version of Android your phone is using (2.3) is one of those who support fixed-positioning partially. I believe it is a better strategy to offer a fixed positioned header only when fixed positioning is truly supported in order to provide the best experience for both new and older mobile platforms, for which falling back to a static header is the most graceful alternative and doesn’t severely degrade the user experience.

Fixed positioning on mobile devices is quite complex as there are many different platforms and as much different versions of each. Some mobile platforms will either offer a full, partial, buggy or no support at all of fixed-positioning. The issue is that the buggy implementations of fixed-positioning seriously degrade the user experience. I invite you to see the video that demonstrates a few examples of mobile behavior here: http://bradfrostweb.com/blog/mobile/fixed-position/

The current implementation of the fixed-header was thoroughly tested across many devices and platforms in order to provide the best experience while providing the most elegant and lightweight technique. I understand that you want the header to be fixed also in your version of Android (2.3) but as you’ve seen by yourself when you enable it then there are new problems coming up (jumping element) which you will try to solve with even more tricks (fading in/out). As explained in the video from the link above, I believe that this is not the right approach for a good user experience. Also if you decide to develop this further then keep in mind that specific tricks for a particular version of Android might introduce unpredicted scenarios on other platforms (e.g. some versions of Opera Mobile etc.) therefor you’ll need to target Android (2.3?) specifically by user-agent sniffing…

My advice is to accept to have a static header (which is an elegant solution) for older mobiles, while you know that any recent mobile system (including any recent versions of Android, iOS and many other platforms like Nokia and Blackberry browsers) will provide the fixed header perfect experience natively. Now if you still want to try providing a special experience for specific Android version I’ll be happy to help, so please feel free to let me know if you encounter any particular difficulties, I’ll try my best to assist you as much as I can ;)

I’m having problems using the default font of the template. It seems that this font does not support accented characters such as “á, ó, ê, ç”. I Will use this template in Portuguese and these chars appear disproportionate. I loved this font for this template, but I really would like appear the correct accents or that provide other similar font.

Hi douglasgsouza,

Thanks for your message. Go to http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/source-sans-pro and under the “@font-face kit” tab select “Don’t subset” from the Subset dropdown then simply download the kit.

Replace fonts from the /fonts/ folder of the template with the ones downloaded and you’re good to go!

I hope it works as expected — Let me know if you need any further assistance with this, I’ll be happy to help ;) Best, Jonathan

Hi,

If max 50px height for the logo is not enough, let say I want to use 70 px instead, when editing the CSS height the arrows will not be placed at correct place, I guess I need to edit the parkEdgeCombined.v1.1.png? Do you have instruction how to calculate space for the new height? Is the PSD is included for this I have not found it I need at least to edit color.

Also the PSD part for main-slider_caption-background.png when saving using Photoshop this not save at the correct picture size it missing some width… Any clue?

Thanks

Hey there af7,

Thanks for your message and sorry for my late reply! Make sure to empty the content of the “/static-server/cache/” directory when you edit any CSS or javascript file! I hope that helps and sorry again for the late reply, please do feel free to let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with, I’ll be happy to help ;) Best, Jonathan
