Is there a way to take out pausing on hover function that is associated with the slideshow? I would love to disable the pausing. Thanks!
Hey queesy,
In the theme.js file, look for this bit of script (starts around line 183):
Once you’ve found it, change the pause: true to pause: false and then save. That should do it.
Thanks guys! One last question, on the collection pages, how can I actually remove the function of the collection image. I currently do not need that feature but when I do not select an image on chrome I get a broke image link icon. Thanks
Hi queesy,
The code for displaying each collection can be found in the collection_small.liquid snippet.
To remove the image, just get rid of the div with the image class (around lines 16 to 24).
Hi there. I need help. I just purchased providence theme. and i downloaded and installed like the instructions. i tried through wordpress themes page and through ftp. still says stylesheet missing. what do i do?
Hey blewitt,
If you’ve trying to use Providence with WordPress unfortunately it’s not going to work. Providence was made to be used with Shopify and, as much as we’d love for it to be compatible with WordPress, it’s just not possible.
That said, we have had many requests to make a specific WordPress version and it’s something that we’re certainly considering. Perhaps we’ll have something in the next couple of months.
If you contact Envato/Themeforest and tell them you thought the theme was compatible with WordPress they may give you a refund.
I apologize for the confusion.
I am trying to add linked options to my variants so that unavailable combinations are not shown to customers.
I have found the coding through Shopify to do this however I cannot located in your theme the file to change.
Can you tell me where I would find the Shopify.OptionSelectors constructor? They say it is usually in product.liquid or sometimes in theme.liquid but I can’t find it in either place.
Here is a link if you’d like to see what i’m trying to find http://wiki.shopify.com/Linked_Options
Thanks
Hi ssmith12,
You can find the constructor in the scripts-product.liquid snippet at or near line 66.
I’ll give you the heads up that we had to write some special scripts with regards to the option selectors in order to get them to work properly with the custom styled select boxes.
Consequently, I can’t guarantee that the linked options will work as described in the Shopify wiki simply because it’s not something we’ve tested.
If you follow the instructions from the wiki and find that things aren’t working, let me know and I’ll help you sort it out.
Cheers,
- Tyson
Thank you, I did find the constructor and added the code.
However, now my options in my 2nd drop down menu are no longer showing up. Any ideas?
Can you log into my store to look at this? I’m sure this an option that a lot of customers would want with your theme. Any help is appreciated.
We can take a look for you but can’t make any promises that we’ll be able to get it to work (unless you’re ok with losing the custom styled select boxes and reverting to the browser defaults).
Can you email the login info to support@empy.re?
Hi there,
I’m just finishing up a awesome site, thanks to your theme.
I was wondering if I could update my website to 3.0 theme without effecting everything I have put together, and/or is there a way around it?
Thanks, Sheridan
Hey Sheridan,
I really wish the answer was that you could update without effecting anything but unfortunately that’s just not the case.
Providence 3 is such a big upgrade from 2 that there really is no way to keep any of your current settings or customizations.
Any products, pages or blog posts you’ve created will stay, but any customizations you’ve made to the actual theme code (as well as any settings you’ve set in the theme settings page) will be reset.
Fortunately, you don’t automatically lose your old them when you install the new version, so you can always keep it around or download it to use as a reference for copying the changes over.
If there was anything we could do to make the upgrade seamless we would, but Shopify just doesn’t work that way.
I received the theme update email, but the download link does not work. Any help?
That’s strange.
No problem though… just go to your downloads page (themeforest.net/downloads), find Providence and download it again.
You’ll automatically get the latest version.
Will this override any of my changes? Also, I haven’t been seeing Providence in my download list for some time.
Unfortunately, yes, it will. None of your content will change (products, pages, blog posts) but your theme customizations and settings will be reset. It will be as if you’re installing the theme for the first time.
We’d love to make upgrading easier but that’s just the way Shopify works and it’s out of our hands.
Providence is not available in my downloads folder to download the update, and hasn’t been for some time. I have the original purchase/download email. Any help? Thanks!
That’s strange… I don’t believe there’s an expiry on purchased items. Try contacting themeforest to see if they can find out why it isn’t there or at least get it to show up again.
Maybe it was bought under a different account?
Hello,
Love your theme. I don’t use shopify but have a custom cart i’ve written. Wanted to get your thoughts on how difficult it would be to integrate this theme into custom site? I initiallly based my css on the default Magento template, but wouldn’t mind changing things up.
Thanks.
Hey fastriver,
It would take some work but is certainly doable. You’d pretty much just have to strip out all of the liquid code and replace it with your own.
The construction of the theme relies heavily on two things: includes and loops. As long as you can handle both of those with your language of choice (I’m guessing PHP) then the conversion should be pretty straight forward.
Also, we use sass and coffeescript to write the css and js and all of the source is included with the download to make advanced customizations that much easier.
Hope that helps!

Hi there,
I was wondering if you could use this template as a stand alone website without integrating it to shopify. I am not looking for an e-commerce site, but I am in love with the simplicity of this design for a simple portfolio website. I really haven’t found anything like this and would love to use it. Just want to make sure I can before purchase!
Thank you
Hi gully_187,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
You certainly could use the theme without the Shopify backend but it would take some work (you’d have to strip out all of the Shopify code). Also, you’d probably want to incorporate some kind of server language, such as PHP, as the theme relies pretty heavily on includes.
We’ve had many requests to release an HTML only version and it’s something we’re working on but I can’t say with any certainty when it will be available.
I hope that helps.
Cheers,
- Tyson
Hi there,
I was wondering if you were able to send through the PSD you used to create the slider images and the three boxes underneath as I would like to create something similar, just with different colours.
Thanks
Hi swenflea,
Sure, we can send it over to you. Can you email us (support@empy.re) your address?
Great theme! Question: How do I tie a product image to a variant? When variant is selected image changes to that one?
ie. T-Shirt. if color blue selected, blue tshirt. If choice changed to green, then image becomes green tshirt.
Thanks!
Hi mhirschberg,
Thanks!
You link variants to images through the alt tag of the image. Just set the image alt to the exact same name as your variant and it should work.
Note that you can link multiple images to the same variant by assigning them the same alt tag.
Give it a try and let me know how it goes.

Hello,
i bought your theme, and i love it, but i have a question:
can i change on the home page the header height?
and on the home page, i have a slideshow, but i want to delete the picture’s frame
Hi kisarnold,
To change the header height, try adding this to the Custom CSS area of the theme settings page (of course, set the height to whatever you prefer):
If you want to keep the logo & menu in the middle, you could do something like this:
To remove the frame on the slideshow, try this:
thank you very much!
Hi Darrel,
We’re looking in to this and will get back to you shortly.

Hi there, How do i check the version of my current theme?
and do you support multi currency? And how do i set it up?
Thanks
Hi trivialpsyche,
The theme version should be in the top right corner of the theme settings page. Here’s a screenshot of what it looks like:
http://cl.ly/image/3G2r3A1E3H3iIf there is no number then you have version 2.
As for the multi currency, the theme does not currently have built in support for it but it is something that we plan to look at adding in the future.
In the meantime, Shopify has a documentation page outlining how you can add it in yourself: http://wiki.shopify.com/How_to_Show_Multiple_Currencies
Cheers
Hi,
if a product is sold out it doen’t show. So people try to order it and than find out it’s sold out. Can I fix this?
Hi alexandersix,
The theme has built-in support for handling out of stock and backordered products (see http://providence-seaside.myshopify.com/products/manning-ceiling-light) but whether a product shows as available, out of stock or backordered depends on how you have your inventory management set up.
In order for a product to display as sold out, it must be set to use Shopify inventory tracking, the quantity available must be 0 and the “Allow users to purchase this item, even if it is no longer in stock” option must be unchecked. See this screenshot: http://cl.ly/image/2W0T1f2x3p3M
If the “Allow users to purchase…” option is checked, the product will show as available but an “on backorder” notice will be displayed (which you can customize through the theme settings).
If the Inventory Policy select box is set to “Don’t track inventory” then the product will always show as available.
If you have a product that should be showing as sold out (settings match those of the screenshot above) but isn’t, please send us (support@empy.re) a link to the product page so that we can take a look.
Cheers,
- Tyson
I’m in the process of updating from the previous version built on Bootstrap and am having issues with the custom styles in theme settings not being applied when previewing any changes or updates I make.
When viewing the source and inspecting the css includes, theme-style-custom.css is empty. Any idea why custom styles aren’t being applied?
Hi bobbykellogg,
I apologize for taking so long to get back to you on this.
The issue you’re experiencing is due to a bug that we recently became aware of and are working on resolving. It has to do with the theme-settings.css file not being compiled properly due a variable that sometimes fails to get set in the settings_data.json file when the settings are saved.
We hope to release an update later today with the fix.
In the meantime, give this a try:
That should fix it.
Let me know if it doesn’t work.

Just purchased for Shopify. Anytime I modify the theme, say just a tag line or logo, the theme no longer displays correctly – whats the deal?
Hi smckenzie75,
I apologize for the trouble and I just replied to someone else who was having the same problem. Here’s what I said:

Hey guys, I just purchased the theme and am having the same issue as smckenzie75.
I can upload the theme fine and set the theme to say preset ‘Birch’. I can preview it fine with all the settings as default, but as soon as I modify one setting (even the branding logo upload) in the theme settings and click save. I then preview and it has reset the theme to plain white and blue links (no background image, no footer bg images)?
If I then set the theme back to ‘Birch’ and preview, it displays fine, but with all the default settings.
For the moment I have gone into the theme editor / custom css and styled the whole home page to get it to look right for now.
Hoping there will be a fix for this before I launch.
Thanks Welby

What custom changes I have made will be overridden if I install the theme update?
Unfortunately, you’ll lose any customizations you’ve made to your current theme and will have to start over again with the defaults.
You will not lose any of your content though (products, pages, blog posts) and your current theme will remain untouched, so you can use it as a reference until you’ve copied any design customizations over.
I wish there was an easier way but it’s out of our control.
I have not yet upgraded to the new 3.0 version because I have done so much customization. I will, however.
For now, the slider on this theme does not work right.
Can you take a look at this and let me know what I need to do to give this proper configuration and get it up and running?
Thanks!

Hi skylinegroup,
Just went to take a look at the slider and everything seems to be functioning properly… what in particular wasn’t/isn’t working right for you?
Unfortunately, yes, upgrading will reset any of your customizations (not our fault!) but one of the benefits is that we completely replaced the slider in version 3 with one that’s much more stable and flexible.
Hi Guys,
I can’t seem to figure out how to make the newsletter signup form visible from the front end. I’ve integrated MailChimp into the theme so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Hi nawalster,
Have you assigned the newsletter widget to a spot in either the sidebar or footer (under the Widget Placement section of the theme settings)?
If you have, and you’ve added your Form Action URL to the newsletter widget setup then it should display.
One thing to note though, if you want to have it in the footer, make sure that the ‘Number of Widgets to Display’ option is set high enough to get it. For example, if you have Number of Widgets to Display set to 2, but you’ve assigned the newsletter widget to footer position 3, it won’t show.
Hi,
It’s been 10 days since I posted a question. Would be really nice if you found the time to answer it.
How do I show my client that a product is sold out?
Hey alexandersix,
Very sorry for not getting back to you… we must have missed it.
We’ve actually been working on getting a proper support system put in place so that things like that don’t happen. It should be ready in the next few days.
Your original question re sold out products has been responded to. Let me know if you need help with anything else.
