Hello, I’m new using WP and I have a few questions with the theme. I saw the installation video but OptionTree changed a little… I think I did something wrong because I paste the theme options in “import settings” and then I did the same in “import theme options”... I don’t know if this can give me problems… however I was checking the content imported from the demo and the porfolio seems not to work because the filters and layouts do not change when I click on them, like in your demo. (sorry but I don’t know english well)... can you please help me?
Heya Omar!
We’re actually recording all new videos this week to reflect the new changes with OptionTree. In short, the installation process is being simplified. The new workflow is basically this:
1. Install and activate the theme.
2. Fill out the theme options (the old importer for the “demo theme options” is no longer working, but we’ll have an automatic fix for this in the next update using the new “layout” feature in OT2 ).
3. Create your menu in Appearances > Menus, add any sidebar widgets that you want in Appearances > Widgets, and generally add your own content
the rest of this is optional4. Import the demo theme content using the WP importer, if you want.
All of the new documentation and videos will reflect these streamlined changes later this week.
Cheers! Brandon
Hello – great theme! Having one problem though that I can’t seem to resolve. I’m using this as a blog with the “Traditional Blog Big Images” template.
I’m trying to hotlink to a Smugmug account for images. I was hoping to be able to link directly to the Smugmug account for both the blog content and the featured image – preferably to add just the featured image and have it show up in the teaser and the blog post itself – both full size.
I haven’t figured how to do it with this theme. I switch over to Twenty Ten and Twenty Eleven, they both work no problem and it hotlinks directly to Smugmug. When I switch back it’s gone.
Any ideas?
You can either delete or disregard my post above. I actually just stumbled on your YouTube video about Advanced Excerpt and it got me where I needed to be.
Great Work!!!
Just purchased this theme and (so far) it is great. Very easy to use and the documentation is done extremely well. I have zero experience with creating a site in WP, but this theme is making it an easy job.
Thanks for the comment John!
B
Hey again. Unlike other themes I can’t seem to find the core index page?
I would like to remove the “Aside” pannel and have 4 blog news posts in a row on the homepage – http://www.re7ox.com/paddock/ Also I want to add some copy above this section, but the index.php page dosn’t seem to do anything in the templates, niether does home.php … Can you direct me to where i need to edit please?
Thanks a lot
Heya Tizz!
The index.php file is in the root of the theme folder… but the homepage is governed by the home.php file though, as WP recommends for customized landing pages
B
Hey, i set up the dark skin in my website and i put a custom BG image, i have 1 problem, i can’t put custom css in the field without override the bg image, i want to put some css but i want to keep the Bg image too. Thanks in advance!
Heya Invade!
That sounds odd… got a link that I can peek at?
Thanks! B
Hmmm – can you post a login to your dashboard for me over at http://makedesign.ticksy.com so I can check this out for ya? I checked the code and didn’t see any reasons why this might happen.
Thanks! B
Hi Brandon,
Is there any way of having something like a separate file of images for a folio page, that is apart from the other blog posts?
Cheers!
Heya Karolina!
Sure! That’s sorta what the portfolio and WP-Gallery pages are for… are those not what you’re referring to?
B
Yeah, I tried setting up a portfolio page, but it sources images from my blog posts, and I can’t figure out a way to have it show images without publishing them in my blog, and without having to option to view all the tags. I’d like to restrict it to just portfolio images, while the blog is a separate thing.
Also, how do you create a WP-Gallery? It doesn’t seem to be an option in page attributes.
Thanks!
Heya Karolina!
That’s what the category filters are for – you’s basically want one set of categories for blog posts and one for portfolio categories
For the WP gallery – http://codex.wordpress.org/Gallery_Shortcode
Cheers! B
There’s nothing referencing the Aside function in the home.php? I’m really confused. Where is this located as I want to remove it
Heya Tizz… What “aside” are you talking about specifically?
Thanks! B
Hey, on the homepage, there is that box on the left hand size before the news is pulled in, it’s class is called “aside” in the source code, sits under DIV .four.columns.omega.aside-container .
I wan’t to be able to remove this (comment out) so just the news posts are displayed on the homepage. 4 posts per row.
I hope that makes sence.
Having issues with Option Tree again.
Doesn’t seem to want to update my Front Page Options. I try and add a new slide, and when I save, it’s gone. If I paste an image link instead of trying to add it through the button (which doesn’t work), it changes one of the other slides, sometimes combining the new image with the old text, sometimes replacing the old slide wholesale.
Any ideas what’s going on? Seemed to be working fine up until today.
Heya Colin!
First, what version are ya on? Next, can you post an admin login to http://makedesign.ticksy.com so I can take a peek. Thanks!
B
Hi…
Great theme…
My pages seem to have an extra div with a horizontal rule The html is:
div class=”sixteen columns content”
What file is this on? And will I damage anything if I remove it?
Thank you in advance The site link is… www.ncompassdesigns.com/atlantic/
Heya RV!
Try adding this to your custom css panel:
.featurerow hr{display: none;}Cheers! B
Hi,
I just want to know if this template can be used for a Magazine/Blog with a section for reviews.
Thanks
Yep, absolutely
B
Brandon,
I updated the theme the other day. Now I’m noticing that within the option tree
(paragraph) tags are being automatically inserted where I do not want them. It is creating an unwanted space underneath the text. How do I remove these automatic
tags? Thanks!
Heya Rhindes!
Grab the newest version (1.9.1.2) – it fixes the paragraph issue
B
I have a question on how to make the thumbnails all the same size in the portfolio page…
Thanks!
Jim
instead of like this… see image
I would prefer uniform thumbnails thanks!
Heya Jdud! Right now that’s not an option as the images are set to be responsive and it gets awfully complicated when you have 5 responsive breakpoints and you want uniform thumbnails for each one… but I actually have a new feature on the way this month that’ll be allowing for uniform thumbnails.
B
Hi, how do you create the Twitter feed shown in the demo?
Use the free Twitter wings plugin
B
When I’m in the traditional blog with small images I want the entire blog post to show up (all of the images and everything). Right now it takes out the images, videos, etc. (unless the image is featured) and shortens it.
Heya Andrea!
Grab the Advanced Excerpt plugin and check out video on it here: http://youtube.com/makedesignnotwar
B
Does the “no uniform thumbnails” due to responsive feature apply for the super skeleton theme as well?
Thanks for replying!
Heya Jdud!
Yep – it’s all the same codebase actually, which makes things pretty reliable and easy to switch between my themes (we have a big lineup coming out this summer/fall as well) – when the new thumbnail size controls come out for one, it’ll come out for all of our themes
B
hello,
I’ve created multiple pages using the portfolio template, and I wanted to know if it is possible to change the preview text that displays in hybrid mode to show all the text on the post? And if it is possible to disable the image on the gallery page from linking to the post page?
thankyou!
Heya Becheath!
Sure – but it takes a bit of extra coding in those template files – open the template file(s) from the Appearance > Editor panel and change this:
to this:
Cheers! B
Hi there, i want to set an picture for a post in the minimum size. It´s not working. Picture always appears very big over the posts text. Can you help? Thanks! C.
Heya Turquoise! Try using one of the other blog templates
They all display images a bit differently.
Cheers! B
God, I hate to ask this, but I just want to be sure…where do I add the child theme? You gave an example file, but I don’t see any documentation on where to put it. Thanks!
Heya Kenny!
You place a child-theme the same place as the main theme folder – inside the /wp-content/themes directory. You need the main theme folder in there as well as that’ll be what’s referenced
