Heya everyone! Thanks for all of the great feedback and encouragement so far! Just so ya know, we already have a library of videos over at http://youtube.com/makedesignnotwar – and there are a host of new videos already under production for some of the new Reason features!

Also – I already released the first update to the theme yesterday afternoon to patch some of the wording in the theme options panel to be more clear – so if you grabbed the theme already, you can grab the first official update right now (or just email me directly from my profile page – I don’t bite!).

I already have a bunch of new features on the way naturally – If you’ve bought any of my other themes you’ll know I pretty religiously maintain, support, and update these themes for buyers.

Cheers! Brandon

Fantastic theme Brandon! A minimalist, responsive theme in this style is exactly what I’d been looking for, and have been looking forward to working with a Skeleton theme for some time. Anyway, two quick things. Tried the WP Google Fonts plugin, but couldn’t get it to play nice. The theme font stacks over-ride, which was fine. Dropped the pluging idea and just put the Google API link in the alternative font replacement tool in theme options, then added my font markups in custom CSS . All is well with type face! Now, the one that has me stumped. Added a front page slide and turned on the home slider, and now the Google API jquery script is hanging on the home page load. Tried removing all custom css and font replacement code entries, but same result. Turn off the slider, no jquery hang up, so I’m assuming it’s a conflict between the in built slider and font replacement functions? I’ve plenty to occupy me in the mean time on client work, and this is my personal site, so at your convenience, any guidance is much appreciated!

Once again, great job on the theme, and keep expanding your horizons beyond Helvetica NeueLT, or whatever it was, LOL !

Sounds like a good plan to me! I see your point as well on the Option Tree limitation pertaining to font quantity. I’m far from a plugin expert, but my personal option of WP Google Fonts has been that it’s solid, stable and of high quality. Up to 6 fonts can be assigned by header, body, p tag, etc., so it’d require little if any tutorial for the inexperienced. I’m a fan of “going big or staying home”, meaning that unless you want to go to the trouble of baking in full font control across all tags, you might as well let a plugin do it. From purchaser comments on various themes, it seems that partial control only confuses less experienced users. Ok, enough from the soap box! Oh, and yes, TypeKit has a free trial, but limits you to 2 fonts and 1 site. Probably time to pay for the business package and update my client rate sheets!

Thanks again, and I’ll talk to you soon…

Ahhh! Interesting about typekit… I’m an early adopter so somehow I have unlimited everything… I guess it pays to sign up for those mailing lists early on – I just got the Ticksy invite as well this morning, so I’ll probably be adding a new “ticket support” service for all of my new themes this week :) B

spatrick1969

Getting in on the proverbial ground floor does pay dividends. I guess I shouldn’t complain, TypeKit offers unlimited site deployment, unlimited fonts and 1MM page views / month for $99.99 a year. If you’re anywhere close to 1MM PV’s per month, you should be able to afford that! I might have to look into that Ticksy service. If I can find the time to get these e-commerce themes complete it’d be a nice thing to have.

Do you expect to have that boxed skin / demo available the weekend?

Hello Brandon! I’d essentially like to have my site start out looking exactly like the demo and play around, changing things from there. How would I go about doing this?

MDNW
MDNW Author

Excellent question – We’re finishing up the “demo content install” video this week – till then, check out the other videos here http://youtube.com/makedesignnotwar – The Reaction/SS/ShapeShifter videos are all the exact same workflow… you just won’t see the same final screenshot at the end :) B

Great idea adding on demo content install functionality! Really saves less experienced theme users quite a bit of time learning how to set up the layouts. And from the author side, saves quite a bit of support time. Also like the idea of what I call “FRC”, or frequently requested code for popular layouts, but layout short codes are handling a lot of that I guess. Sorry for the hijack, need to get focused here, LOL !

MDNW
MDNW Author

Hah! No worries – just holler if you have a question! B

Where are the shortcodes located other than the column shortcodes in the documentation? I am sorry, I have been attempting to use this theme for 2 days now and is finding it very hard to use. Is it possible to add 2 thumbnail sliders to the same page

http://pastie.org/3616825 is a good starter – there’s also notes in the end of the PDF documentation – AND , there’s a massive update coming soon that’ll include a bunch more and a WYSIWYG editor for them :)

And no – without a plugin there’s no easy way to do 2 sliders on the same page… but that’s a good reason to use a plugin since it’d be custom to your site.

B

I would reply to the related, existing thread here but I can’t. Anyway, I wanted to state that I don’t plan on using the google fonts parts of the theme. I’m all too happy to purchase a license for CC plugin FontPress (as I’ve done already in the past) which adds awesome @font-face, cufon and google font powers to any theme. So, I’ve no problem if you remove it. In fact, your minimalistic approach is one of the attractive things about your work. :-)

MDNW

Sweet :) I’ll keep that in mind when I go to work on the .2 release this week. Thanks for the feedback electro! B

Hi dear author,

I’m very interesting by your amazing theme..:bashfulcute:

But, I’ve got a lil question : Can we customize the background footer? I really need to customize this theme with personal creation, and I just wanna know if I can modify the css file directly on my WP Board?

(so it seems to be 2 lil questions ) :silly:

Thanks a lot for your answer (soon I hope ):chuckle:

MDNW
MDNW Author

It’d be something like this:

#section-footer, #section-footer:after{background: red;}
#section-sub-footer, #section-sub-footer:after{background: pink;}

:) B

Pajakallisti

Hey, yes it’s still me, I just wanna know what I should write if I wanna put a background image for the footer please ^”

I’ve tried some useless customization’s lines but it doesn’t work u___u poor little thing..

^ SOS

MDNW
MDNW Author

Hi Pajakallisti! I’m adding this as a new theme option in the next update (footer and tophat image uploaders for the BG) – until then, use s like this:

#setion-footer, #section-footer:after{
background: url('YourImageURL.jpg') repeat;
}

That’s pretty much it – grab the image URL by uploading it to the media library for your WP install and they’ll give you a file URL .

Cheers! B

This theme looks great! I have bought it and will try to customize it a little to my own preferences.

But so far it looks really amazing. Love the clean design and easy customization options.

I’m having two little problems at the moment, but I really can’t find it so far.

1. I want to change the color and height of the footer (I only have copyright statement in it), but I can’t find where to do this. I have adjusted several CSS files where footer background is black, but the color does not change to brown (the color I want).

2. I want the caption the be spaced in the middle and shorter than the whole width. But if I adjust the width, the dotted line under the caption also becomes shorter.

Maybe you can help me? I will be busy figuring it out, so if I find the solutions I will let you know :)

hehe – Ok – thanks for the update! B

Hello,

your theme is really great but I have a problem.

I want to set up the frontpage with the full width but it doesn’t work.

I have change the “Reading Settings” and make the static page template as Full Width but nothing.

Have I do something wrong?

Hope you can help me.

Best wishes,

Markus

One more update for anyone else running into this issue: I was able to locate and solve the bug – the new version of the theme coming out this weekend will include the patch.

If you need this resolves ASAP : replace your existing index.php file with this code : http://pastie.org/3861485

That’ll allow the tag and categories to work again ;)

Cheers! Brandon

No problem.

Well…I’ve got to move on, I’ll try to remember to re-visit this one in a few weeks. Good luck with updates and sales! :-)

Ok :) It should be up soon enough – just lots going on over here and I haven’t had a chance to finish the content import for the boxed version yet. Cheers! B

No problem. Take your time. Rushing often introduces issues, so don’t. Focus on what you need to. I’ll check in on you next month.

heh great theme, I’m really enjoying working with it! AT the moment I am trying to edit the style of the header menu “sf-menu” I am editing the #NAVIGATION STYLES – .sf-menu classes in the styles.css file. Everything is fine except for when I try to change the font! I can’t change the color or size? Do you know what I might be doing wrong? I can’t see anywhere else where the menu font style is declared? Any help at all appreciated.. thanks! Mike

MDNW
MDNW Author

Howdy Mike!

Try dropping in your custom CSS to the Theme Options > Styling Options > Custom CSS field. Try this out:

.sf-menu strong{font-size: 15pt; color: red;}
.sf-menu span{font-size: 15pt; color: blue;}

That’ll override anything in the theme’s main CSS files and allows you to keep your own edits safe and sound when you make updates.

B

@clickworks – You probably shouldn’t be modifying the the styles.css directly. You may instead want to use a custom stylesheet file or child theme. Anyway, you may be able to achieve what you desire by overriding one or more selectors by using the ”!important” keyword.

MDNW
MDNW Author

Or even easier… just use the provided custom CSS insertion field ;) B

I am ready to cry, I had figured almost everything out, and suddenly, for no apparent reason my homepage slide just disappeared. I did nothing to the homepage or the Theme Options, it just disappeared, all I have are 2 arrows, I checked the library and the pics are still there for the slider, i checked the slider in the theme options and all is still exactly as I had it. Please Please help, you have my credentials already. Never mind, I am going to start all over from scratch. Something really got whacked up with this wordpress, has made quite a few in my time and something went radically haywire somewhere. It is just not worth my time to try to find out what is wrong, has spent way too many hours on this as it is. I have admitted defeat on this one and is gonna just start all over. If it goes whacky again, I will then know the cause.

LeilasLass
Am I understanding that you went to my wordpress and got it fixed for me? Or you looked at the theme and fixed it and we need to re-download it? I ask not because I am ungrateful, but because I still see the same wacked up slider. I am confused. God I sound so dumb and I feel so dumb but I am not dumb, just very confuzzled. I hope I did not imply that the slider as it looks now is the way I want it to look. :) Until yesterday, it looked like a normal slider looks on wordpress. As it looks now, I feel like Gulliver looking at pictures taken by the denizen’s of Lilliput. :) http://donaldroyerdesign.com/artlienglish/

also noticed something else just now, the blog is set to NOT SHOW the slide, yet it shows the slider

MDNW
MDNW Author

Oh I went in there and fixed it from the email – you must have accidentally overwritten my edits – give me two minutes in there and I’ll fix it up again – keep in mind you want 1 item/image on each slide – right now you’re using 5 :) B

LeilasLass

I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU ! Thank you so very very very very much. I had changed the item number trying to fix it. It is beautiful again

Did I Say I Love You?...cuz I do!

@LadyHarley I’m sure Brandon will have feedback for you soon, but in the meantime, may I ask what you were working on prior to noticing the slider’s disappearance? I ask because I’ve been having some problems with the home slider that Brandon is working on sorting out. Without running down my workflow list, it appears to be a possible conflict between Google web fonts API and the responsive slider, at least in my case. When my problem showed up, I also received a script not responding message (Google API ), but it had a similar appearance to your problem, in that the nav arrows appear but no images.

Anyway, just wanted to offer some diagnostic conversation while Brandon’s working on solutions.

Not yet – most of the day’s been occupied with support stuff – I have a small session planned right now though – so I’ll see if I can’t squeeze out a quick 1.9.2 release right now :) B

MDNW
MDNW Author

Alright so the plan right now is that I’m just pulling the Google Fonts API stuff from the theme… we’ll see where that leaves ya and then make changes if needed :) B

spatrick1969

Gotcha my good man. Thanks for the reply! Sounds like a good plan to me. I’ll give the Google Fonts-free version a try and see what happens. Can’t imagine it’s anything other than that, as that’s the script that’s hanging and, presumably, keeping the slider from loading as a result. What really puzzles me is that I’ve implemented this same slider in two other liquid layouts recently, along with Google Fonts, with no trouble, although the font replacement was plugin driven and the framework wasn’t Skeleton, so who knows. Anyway, sorry to ramble on. My composition professor always said cogency wasn’t my long suit!

Scott

Does this theme support self-hosted videos in the portfolio? I mean they would open up in the lightbox?

MDNW
MDNW Author

Yup :) You’d just drop the self-hosted .MOV URL into the custom lightbox URL field for the post. B

Ok thank you! And finally, do you think I would b able to put the menu in the sidebar so the the menu would be vertical and not horizontal?

MDNW
MDNW Author

Sure – Well – I mean, yeah – you’d just add the “pages menu” as a widget same as you might with any WP theme worth it’s weight in salt :)

B

Just wanted to say Brandon rules! Excellent support.

MDNW
MDNW Author

Small update for ya :) I just submitted a new version of the theme right now – it should be up in a few hours (it takes the reviewers time to approve the files) – but it includes some better explanations in the Theme Options panel for the slider (among other stuff)... all thanks to your feedback… so thanks to you as well! ~ Brandon

PS : If/When you grab the updated version of the theme – make sure you hit the Reload XML button to reload the options text – we have a video (my brother, Charlie, records these videos) for updating the themes just in case : http://youtube.com/makedesignnotwar

Thanks! Yup, knew about the reload XML , you are simply divine.
1. Is it possible to add some custom .css to remove the arrows from the homepage slider?
2. Is there any custom .css to remove the Comments Closed, The blog time-stamps and posted by metadata when creating a blog post?
I have in the distant past manually removed those in older themes and older wp versions, but it has been some time ago. Many of the themes I have worked with lately had those options on the posts and I have just kind of gotten used to the ease of that so never gave it a thought
I have tried all the different blog templates available, they all list the date, the category, the author etc. I have turned off the comments, but the post still says Comments Closed.
No hurry tonight, is working on the rest of the site atm.
Noticed you said have a new baby girl! Congrats!
I will soon have my new baby grandson too!
IE; teething…been there done that bought the proverbial tee-shirt!
Does not envy you and thanks you immensely for your time with me.

MDNW

Sure!

1. Try this:

#carousel_prev, #carousel_next{display: none;}

2. Same idea:

.nocomments, .date{display: none;}

Cheers! Brandon
