+8 moreHeya everyone! Thanks for all of the great feedback and encouragement so far! Just so ya know, we already have a library of videos over at http://youtube.com/makedesignnotwar – and there are a host of new videos already under production for some of the new Reason features!
Also – I already released the second update to the theme this afternoon to add in some new in-dashboard assistance and clarifications in the theme options panel to be more clear – so if you grabbed the theme already, you can grab the second official update right now (or just email me directly from my profile page – I don’t bite!).
I already have a bunch of new features on the way naturally – If you’ve bought any of my other themes you’ll know I pretty religiously maintain, support, and update these themes for buyers.
Last – now that we’re a few days in, I’ll be opening up the support system at http://makedesign.ticksy.com for any and all support requests! FAQs are coming soon too!
Cheers! Brandon
hi, i upload theme, but this don’t work. Wordpress 3.3.1. When i try actived says: “Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_option_tree() in /home/semuraii/public_html/wp-content/themes/semurai_theme/header.php on line 64”
Make sure you install the OptionTree plugin that’s mentioned in the documentation and in the dashboard
B
@skizzo
Follow the documentation and read the error. You need to download the Option Tree plugin. Also, there is a notification about this in Wordpress.
So you have had three chances to solve that problem yourself…
Lol – thanks Xam! B
Hi, I didn’t find in the documentation how to show only certains items in the portfolio. (I would like to sho items in the post category “publicités” only.
Heya Oli! This one should be pretty simple – just create your portfolio page and then select the category “publicités” in the category filters list (Skeleton Page Options panel under the page editor).
B
Thank you!
Hi
I really love your theme
Just a few questions.
Is it possible to customize background of top part of page?
Can I use my own icons?
And is it possible to add Flickr gallery plugin into theme?
I’m new to WP so I’m not sure if what I’m asking is totally ridiculous or not!
Thanks
Yep – yep and yep.
The background can be customized easily.
The icons are pretty easy as well – you’d just upload your own set over the existing files in the theme folder.
And a flickr plugin (free) is already recommended so you can show off your photostream
B
Hey Brandon!
Unfortunately, I’m the bearer of bad tidings this afternoon. I downloaded the updated theme, v1.9.2, and updated the theme as per usual, and as outlined in the video. I also removed all of my custom CSS pertaining to Google Font replacement, as well as the alternative font replacement code that was previously entered in Options Tree. I also deactivated all plugins before updating.
Anyway, after loading up the updated theme and activating it, I still have the same problem with the Google API JQuery script not responding upon home page load. If I shut off the home page slider, the site will load just fine, but once switched on, the same script error. The script responding message it’s throwing references the following:
https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.2/jquery.min.js?ver=3.3.2:3In any event, and as mentioned, I’m simply running the updated theme with no mods and no plugins, other than Option Tree and To the Top, so I’m absolutely stumped at this point. Obviously the problem has nothing to do with Google Fonts. Anything you can do to assist me would be greatly appreciated, as I’d really like to get this site under wraps over the weekend, and am completely set on this theme!
Thanks,
Scott www.promediaworks.com
Ahhh! Ok – that error message helps – let me do a bit of hunting and see who’s the stinker here. In the meantime – are you using the Shortcodes plugin yet? If so, try hitting the “disable jQuery” option that they give ya… I’ll report back asap. If you have a full error report, post that too
B
Alright – so it seems to be working fine on my staging server – http://reason.makedesign.staging.wpengine.com/the-blog/ (granted, that’s an atrocious example of typography!)
I need to do a small bit of re-coding on the CSS for the H4 tags (the headlines of the blog entries) – but you can also overwrite it pretty easily by just dropping in this CSS :
h4 a{font-family: "YourCustomFont"';}Any ideas on what could be up on your side? I didn’t get any errors over here.
Interesting. Sort of baffled at the moment, so here’s the full report Firebug throws when I query the site. Sorry for the lengthy post:

Interesting… that all is Greek to me
Let’s have you file a support ticket for this one at http://makedesign.ticksy.com along with a temp login and pass so I can go in there and check things out for ya
Note – it’s friday evening for me and I’m about to clock out for most of the night most likely… but you can expect a response by tomorrow I’d imagine. B
Thanks for the reply Brandon, but fortunately, I have some good news to report! I decided to install the theme on a fresh sub-domain just to further evaluate the problem, and everything ran flawlessly. So, I went back and compared my set up entries to that of the problem site, and subsequently found the answer. I used 215 px height images for the slider, as I noticed that was the default setting. However, on the problem site I hadn’t entered a starting pixel height, as I think I presumed it was set at 215 by default, and hence no entry was required. On the new sub-domain, I had just keyed in 215 in passing, not thinking about it. So, I went back and entered 215 in the original install and voila, properly executing JQuery script and home slider! In retrospect, it makes sense, as the slider was trying to query a required value that wasn’t there, and as a result, the Google JQuery API call couldn’t finalize. As usual, what seemed like a complex issue was ridiculously simple. Par for the course I guess! Anyway, it was most definitely designer / builder error and NOT a theme issue! Fantastic theme, and rock solid code. Keep the themes coming, and the awesome support is most appreciated. You’re a rock star my man!
Thanks again…
Scott
Awesome! That actually explains a lot – those values (at least in this version) need to be set… but as this is the second time this has caused some confusion (and I’m not happy with just telling people that they need to fill out the options), I’m going to look into finding a way to have this “break gracefully” by setting a default value to fall back on. I can’t say if it’ll make it into the next release, but it’s officially on my radar.
Thanks for hanging in there with this one – these little scripty issues are tricky to nail down, but this will ultimately help other people not run into this stuff in the future
Cheers! Brandon
Thanks Brandon, and no problem at all. The way I look at it, working through these things is just a part of what makes the WordPress and web design communities so great. It’s a collective, collaborative effort, and the talents you guys bring to the table in theme development greatly enhance our opportunities on the front lines in designing / building for end users, so I always enjoy working with really talented people and being a part of the solution. Maybe I’m just a middle aged geek, but I think it’s awesome that we all get to be a part of these times, playing a daily role in the evolution of WordPress and the web experience in general. It amazes me how far WordPress and premium theming has come since I got involved with it in 2008. Anyway, I’m really excited to dig in and complete the site, and if I can ever be of help with support, testing out themes / functionality, etc., don’t hesitate to ask. Always glad to roll up my sleeves and dig in!
Enjoy your weekend…
Scott
Same to you Scott! B
Hello, I have installed the theme a week ago. All is ok, but there is a problem with tags because the filter don’t work. I have seen the preview and i found the same behavior. When you click one tag the result of the search are wrong… (sorry i can not write english properly)
I was able to locate and solve the bug earlier today – the new version of the theme coming out this weekend will include the patch.
If you need this resolves ASAP : replace your existing index.php file with this code : http://pastie.org/3861485
That’ll allow the tag and categories to work again
Cheers! Brandon
Thanks a lot!!
Hello again, i have seen another thing: when you search using skeleton search widget, the results have on right of the content, a tag icon, i have seen the same behavior in preview…
Thanks!
Thanks Gustavo! Checking into it
B
Edit: located it – it’ll be revised in the weekend release!
Is it possible to integrate the author infobox under each article?
e.g. in one of the next updates
Greetz from Germany
Markus
Heya Markus! I’ll check into this for ya… consider it added to the list of features I’ll consider very seriously for updates
B
Brandon’s support is rock solid.
I am a visual – designer – type, is no coding guru so, much of the terminology used is Greek to me.
I required a wordpress plugin named Custom Contact Forms, free from wordpress plugin directory, which I have used on many sites before with no problems with themes purchased from here at Envato as well as Pagelines and Thesis.
Before using the 1.9.2 release of Reason, as you know Brandon, we had a slider issue, everything was going beautifully when my slider “broke” and you fixed it for me. I actually went as far as to go with a fresh database, clean install of wordpress and the theme. I have since discovered that was not necessary as it was the Custom Contact Form that was the culprit. After the fresh install of wordpress, the fresh install of 1.9.2, you coming and fixing the slider, as soon as I created my Custom Contact Form, BAM , the slider disappeared. So went into the back-end of the plugin and discovered:
As soon as I disabled Front End Jquery in Custom Contact Forms, the slider magically returned.
I no longer have the tool tip pop up in the Custom Contact Form, but that is inconsequential ATM .
What I do not know because I am so code-challenged is what about this theme when utilizing the Custom Contact Form Plugin causes the slider to “break” ?
Is it the Option Tree Plugin or the Scroll To Top plugin?
Probably not the Scroll to Top because I have used that plugin along side Custom Contact Form before as well on other themes now that I think about it. So that leaves us with:
A. The Option Tree Plugin Plugin
B. The Theme
I am NOT complaining as I realize you recommend Contact Form 7
Contact Form 7 is no where near as customizable as Custom Contact Form however and does not fit my needs
I just wanted to report what happened and what I have discovered in my small effort to help you achieve any goal you may have for the theme. I Do Not Have An Issue with disabling the Front End Jquery in the Custom Contact Form in order to use the plugin with the theme and make the slider work as well.
Great Theme, Great Support and to any person deciding if they want to purchase, Brandon is right there for you, no worries. Hopes soon that you will have hundreds of sales!
Thanks for the followup on this Lady – It’s 100% true (to the bane of all WP developers) that not everyone codes their plugins up to true WP standards… which often means that that awesome plugin you were checkin’ out won’t work simply because they don’t do something as simple as load jQuery properly in a no-conflict mode. Annoying…
Next – Side note – But I started as a visual designer too just a few years ago… so take heart, this stuff gets easier!
Last – Try out the FREE Contact Form 7 plugin – it’s already vetted and reviewed for this theme and it’s pretty darned awesome.
Hope this helps! B
Ha! I can only DREAM of having the skill to create a theme such as this all by lonesome!
I can “see” them in my mind, but could never create like you. Good Luck my young friend, thinks you will be very successful, especially if you continue to actually care about your customers as well as what you create.
You’d be surprised what a little bit of practice, every day, for a few years will do
Either way, I’m glad the theme is working well for ya – holler if you have any other questions. New features and updates are on the way as usual!
B
Hi, I’m going to buy your them, and was wondering should I wait until your weekend release or should I just get it now? : )
I’d grab it now – there’s almost always going to be a weekend release – it’s just part of my ongoing commitment to having new stuff for you guys to play with
B
Just did! : )
Sound good – Holler if ya have any questions! B
Hi, Theme installation was really straightforward! Thanks…I have a few questions:
1. How and where do I change background and icons (so I can use my own) in the Top Hat part of the Theme?
2. Do I need to install a plug in so I can have social sharing buttons on posts?
3. Is there any way of adding videos to posts with embedded code?
Thanks, E
Heya E!
1. The background is pretty easy – just upload your image, grab the File URL and then use a snippet like this in your Theme Options > Styling Options > Custom CSS field:
#section-tophat, #section-footer, #section-tophat:after, #section-footer:after{ background: url('yourimageurl.jpg') repeat; }For the social icons – just overwrite the icon PNG files in the /assets/images/theme/social-icons/ folder (use the same names of course).
2. Yep – there are lots of those out there for free – use whichever one suits you best – it’s a personal preference thing.
3. Sure – Grab the Shortcodes Ultimate plugin mentioned in the documentation and use their “Media” shortcode with your video URL (set the width to 100% instead of a pixel value to ensure responsive videos on all layouts
B
Oh, and I also forgot. On your template menu bar Pages have a second description line. Where can I add this second description? : )
I’ll add this to the FAQ today – but Appearances > Menus – hit the Screen Options link – check the “Descriptions” option – then each menu item will have that option
B
Hello I love the cleanness of the Reason design but I was wondering if there is an easy way to have the blog posts show up with a couple of images and text and then a read more rather than the featured image and post snippet? many thanks
Sure – The easiest way is to head into the element-excerpt.php file and switch the 2 instances of
B
the_excerpt();tothe_content();– that’ll show all of your post content instead of just the excerptexcellent thank you
Diggin’ theme. Before purchasing I had questions?
1. Is it possible to remove the author picture related to each post? 2. Can the Tags icon be hidden but still show tag categories? 3. What’s the actual size for ad spots?
Thanks so much in advance!
Heya Afro!
1. Yep – it’s a single line of text that you put into the Theme Options panel that I can gladly give ya when you’re ready.
2. Ditto
3. They aren’t true ad spots right now – just basic images that are sized at 125×125 – although keep in mind the layout and images are responsive, so they’ll adjust with the size of the viewable area. Naturally, there are a lot of great (free) ad sidebar widgets available as well.
B
Hi. Template looks awesome! I installed it, but had following problems:
- Classic-skin isn´t working. When I choose it in OptionTree Theme options, it still shows clean skin. Classic-skins seems to be missing in /assets/stylesheets
- To Top plugin doesn´t work for me in Chrome. Tried in IE and it was okay.
Howdy Tane!
To get the same Classic skin in the demo actually requires a few things:
1. Upload a background image – the white main content area blockout will then occur – The demo is using this image – you can paste it in there if you’d like: http://reason.makedesign.wpengine.com/wp-content/themes/reason/option-tree/assets/bg_pattern.png
2. Select the Sans-Serif font stack – the demo is also using a few fonts for the headlines from Typekit.com
3. I’ll check on DTT – it’s working for me right now though and I’m in Chrome… so any additional info you can provide about it not working will be useful

Hi B,
Thanks for responding to menu question. I have these too : )
1. How and where do I change background and icons (so I can use my own) in the Top Hat part of the Theme? 2. Do I need to install a plug in so I can have social sharing buttons on posts? 3. Is there any way of adding videos to posts with embedded code?
Thanks, E
Double post
See your other one for the response. (or at least I think it looks awfully similar… haha)

Great job!
Thanks Mizuko! B
Hi! It´s me again. Thank You for quick reply!! Still got one question (hope not double). I am not able to see my profile pictures that should appear close to the title of the posts. Am I missing some plugin?
Heya tane! Have you setup an account at http://gravatar.com yet? Set one up with an image associated with the same email address you’re using for your WP user account
