Hey Steven,

You have a very nice looking theme here, and it’s between you and one other.

Is there any chance of you adding jquery code to yours like there is in “Accende – WordPress Church Theme”?

Chimpie

StevenGliebe

Hi Chimpie,

Thank you for your interest in Risen. jQuery is a JavaScript library that helps developers work more efficiently. Risen’s JavaScript (and WordPress itself) utilizes jQuery.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Steven, Thanks for the response. I have some html stills but I guess I was trying to figure out the level of difficulty of that mod. Any idea? Thanks, Kevin

StevenGliebe

Hi Kevin,

It could take a few hours for somebody very experienced (reduce slider, add widget area, test browsers and responsiveness, etc.) so I’m not comfortable saying it would be an easy customization. You could also hire a professional but of course I wouldn’t be able to guarantee their results.

I hope this is helpful to you in making your decision.

Hi there again. I was wondering how can I use web safe fonts for this theme? :) It’s really important and essential for my project not to use special fonts because when I check this to other computers, the fonts doesn’t work. I hope you can help me. Thank you. :)

StevenGliebe

I just did a test of Chrome 21 and Firefox 11 on Windows and Firefox 11 on Mac and I am seeing that Google Web Fonts are working.

Once I present this to my professors, some of the computers at our school have lower versions of what I have here at home.

Google Web Fonts works on Chrome 4.2+ and Firefox 3.5+. Chrome does automatic updates and Firefox 3.5 is several years old so Google Web Fonts works even on browsers that are virtually unused today.

StevenGliebe
Also, can I ask, how can I put a login bar on the homepage? Where it is needed for members to login to have full access to some of the files.

Risen does not have a feature for that so you would need to see if there is a plugin that does what you want: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Oooh, So that’s how the web fonts work on browsers. Okay thank you so much and God bless you. :)

How do I access the “Light Stylesheet”? I’m trying to remove the textured background from the header and widget menus, and I only see the Styles.css, Style-Editor.css, and Style-admin.css. I can see the code I need to modify is, background-image: url(“images/texture-overlay.png”);, but I need access to the Light Stylesheet.

StevenGliebe

The light stylesheet is located at wp-content/themes/risen/styles/light/style.css.

It’s always best to use a child theme when making code modifications. Here is a starter guide: http://stevengliebe.com/projects/wordpress-themes/risen/docs/#child-theme

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Steve, For some reason my events are showing up descending, the latest event is showing up first. I need the event that is occurring soonest to show up first. How do I do that?

By the way, Thanks so much for all of your help. You have been very responsive :)

StevenGliebe

It’s my pleasure to help. :)

Within the next week or so I will be releasing a major update to the theme and one of the improvements will be that the events are listed from soonest to farthest (like the homepage widget does now). Currently they are simply listed high to low. I will also be dividing the events template into two: Upcoming Events and Past Events.

If you send me a message via my Profile Page I’ll have your e-mail address on hand to notify you when it’s ready.

The events sorting has been improved (soonest to farthest) with the latest release. There are also now two events templates: Upcoming and Past. You can get the latest version from the “Downloads” area of your account.

Hi Steve, I have added a few things to my Gallery, but I can’t figure out how to get those albums to show up as a page. They are just in the Gallery folder on the Risen theme. How do I make my Gallery a page on my website?

StevenGliebe

Hello,

Each category/album has its own page. You can get the URL for any category by going to Gallery > Categories. Hover of a category to see the “View” link which will take you to the category page.

You might also want to use the “Gallery – Categories” template which lists all categories on one page. Please see this part of the documentation for more information: http://stevengliebe.com/projects/wordpress-themes/risen/docs/#gallery

I Have the website and I love it but I cant get the pages to work it comes up with a error 404. How do i get my pages to work? my website is www.Xposethegap.com in case you need to see the site

StevenGliebe

Your permalink structure (friendly URLs) is probably not active. Complete Step 3 in Installation again: http://stevengliebe.com/projects/wordpress-themes/risen/docs/#installation

1. Go to Settings > Permalinks. 2. Choose your preferred URL format. 3. Save even if you are sticking with what is already selected.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

How do you put a donaton button on the page? I understand how to get the donation widget on there but how do i get the button

StevenGliebe

For the widget you simply provide the URL and the button will appear.

For making a button on inside of page content you can create a link to your payment page using WordPress’s Visual editor. If you want the link to look like a button instead of a regular link, switch to HTML mode add the “button” class to the tag. For example:

<a href=”http://paypal.com/whatever/” class=”button”>Make a Donation</a>

I will be releasing an update to Risen with shortcodes, one of which will be a button shortcode to make this easier.

Hi Steve, thanks for being patient with me as I’m a newbie to designing websites! I’m almost done, so I shouldn’t be bothering you too much more :). I followed your directions and uploaded the Risen Child theme. When I look at the StyleSheet.css file it says:

/* Theme Name: Risen Child Theme Theme URI : http://themeforest.net/user/stevengliebe Description: A child theme for Risen. Author: Steven Gliebe Author URI : http://stevengliebe.com Template: risen Version: 1.0.4 /

/ To override styles, copy them from the parent theme here, then change the properties. You can also add new styles here. See styles/* for overriding the light and dark base styles. Note: it is not necessary to @import the parent stylesheet here (see docs for more info) */

In looking at the parent theme, the css code to remove the background image from the header menu isn’t there. So I don’t think I should cut and paste the styles from the parent theme when I still need the code from the light stylesheet. So I went to wp-content/themes/risen/styles/light/style.css and cut and paste the code under the above highlighted text, made the changes, and the changes aren’t showing up on the page. So what am I missing? How do I get the site to recognize and accept changes from the child theme?

Thanks!

StevenGliebe

I’m not able to provide support for code customization but I can point you in the right direction.

If you want to modify the light stylesheet make sure you are using code inside of the child theme’s styles/light/styles.css file and not the main style.css. This is explained in more detail in “Color Schemes” here: http://stevengliebe.com/projects/wordpress-themes/risen/docs/#child-theme

To remove the background image you will need to set the background property to none, rather than just removing it. For example, inside of your child theme’s styles/light/style.css place this code:

#header-menu {
   background-image: none;
}

Is it easy enough to create a webstore within this site template? Also can I link the payment to Authorize.net instead of Paypal?

Your template is amazing!

StevenGliebe

Risen is not an e-commerce theme so there are no selling capabilities or integration with Authorize.Net. There is only a simple button with the Donations widget that can be linked to any URL . I suggest looking for an e-commerce WordPress theme that is specifically for building an online store.

Is there anyway to load multiple images into a gallery? It seems like we have to add one at a time. This is going to take forever to do hundreds of images. There must be a faster way.

StevenGliebe

Each gallery photo/video is its own post so they need to be added individually, although you can in advance bulk upload the actual image files in the Media Library so that they are available for quicker selection on each post.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

I created a shortcode to put the home boxes on separate page. But it always puts them at the top of the page. Is their a way to put them at the bottom of the page?

StevenGliebe

Hi johneyboy. There is no feature for this included with the theme and I am not able to provide support for code customizations. If you would like, I can refer you to a service that helps with theme modifications.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

johneyboy

Thanks anyway.

How can i change the homepage from blog to static ? Normal I can choose static homepage at the reading options of wordpress but with this theme this option is gone?

Thanks

Marvin

StevenGliebe

Hi Marvin,

Thank you for choosing Risen. The theme works only with the homepage seen in the Live Preview so there is no option for static.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

StevenGliebe

Risen 1.1.3 was just released and supports a static front page. Here are update instructions: http://stevengliebe.com/projects/wordpress-themes/risen/docs/#update

@ StevenGliebe: Great thanks for taking our feedback into the update 1.1.3! (Static front page option) !!! We’re going to test it right away :-)

Is there a specai setting for the contact form? i add my on contact and fill in the contact form. It said message sent, but i never receive the mail. I try number of different email and same result

please help

StevenGliebe

Hello,

Please send a message to me via the form on my contact page and tell me who your web host is (you may want to ask them if there is anything special that needs to be done to make PHP ’s mail() function work). If you can provide me with access to your WordPress admin area that would be helpful.

Thank you.

Great looking theme. Pre-sales question here: is there an actual calendar displaying all days of the month in addition to the listing of events? thanks!

StevenGliebe

Thank you for your interest in Risen. The events are in list format. I may add a table calendar template in an update but for now it is list format.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Steve, I am almost done with my site! Yay! But, I am having trouble uploading pictures. Some upload fine, but then others say “HTTP error” or “IO error”, and then they don’t actually show up on the site…they are fragmented when they appear. Is there anyway around this?

StevenGliebe

I did a little research and these seem to be problems relating to WordPress and possibly your hosting environment and/or computer. Please browse these articles to see if one of the solutions works for you:

http://www.google.com/search?q=wordpress+upload+http+error http://www.google.com/search?q=wordpress+upload+io+error

Some suggest uninstalling/reinstalling Flash, clearing your browser cache and raising the PHP memory limit with your host. First, I recommend deactivating any plugins you are using just in case there is a conflict.

The Risen theme looks pretty much perfect for a ministry client, but before I buy I need to know if it’s compatible with WPML for translation purposes. The ministry needs to have the site translated into a number of languages so WPML support is really important.

StevenGliebe

Thank you for your interest in the theme. I cannot guarantee the theme will work with any third party plugin but the text used in Risen has been localized and translates fine for a single language so it should work, but keep in mind some text is stored in the Theme Options which is powered by the Options Framework plugin and so you may need to do some special things that have been discussed here: http://wpml.org/forums/topic/wpml-options-framework/

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Hey Steve, Sorry to bother you again. Got an issue….When viewers see each photo gallery, it tells them when I uploaded it at the top of the gallery. It says “3 days ago” or whenever I loaded it. I am trying to figure out how to get that off. Have looked everywhere. I don’t want them to see when I uploaded the pics. You got any suggestions on how I can get that off?

Thanks again for all of your help. My website looks awesome thanks to your theme!!

StevenGliebe

You would need to make a code customization in order to change how the single image/video pages are shown. The file that you would need to edit is single-risen_gallery.php. The best way to make a customization is using a child theme. There is a starter guide here: http://stevengliebe.com/projects/wordpress-themes/risen/docs/#child-theme

I am interested in purchasing this theme to use for a Christian counseling site. How difficult would it be for me to replace the slider with a content slider from a plugin I have?

StevenGliebe

Thank you for your interest in the theme. Replacing the slider included with Risen to something different would involve modifying the theme’s code so you will need some web development skills in order to accomplish this.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

I seem to have a problem with this theme. Any pages I create are showing a 404 error. I will message you with the information.

StevenGliebe

Thank you for choosing Risen for your project.

Your permalink structure (friendly URL ’s) is not active. Please repeat Step 3 in Installation:

1. Go to Settings > Permalinks.

2. Choose your preferred URL format (“Day and name” recommended — don’t use “Default”).

3. Save even if you are sticking with what is already set.

If you have any questions, just let me know!
