This is a superb theme. Your obsessive work with the typography really paid off.

I do feel that it is lacking in some key areas though.

Others have pointed out the missing elements, but to reiterate here’s what I’d like to see in an update and this would lead me to a purchase:

- More widget options: newsletter subscribe, feedburner/twitter/fb follower count widget, flickr feed, contact form

- Widgetized footer: really would love to see full use of that footer area.

- drop-down menus. This surely has to be a WP staple no?

- multiple slides.

Thanks for your input. There are some items that we may address in future updates, but the following we will not:

  • We will not be developing an email newsletter subscription widget. There are a multitude of viable plugins that address this need and the implementation is better left to you finding the plugin that fits versus us trying to develop for the unknown.
  • We will not be developing a Twitter/Facebook/Feedburner follower count widget. We could have an extended conversation about the viability of this to a visitor, but we will not bore you with our stance. :)

Again, if enough people ask for drop down menus, this will be something we will look at.

There is already a Flickr Feed widget. Were you thinking of something else?

Lastly, we would like to know the reasoning behind a contact form in the footer? Have you have successful conversions using one in the past?

Just wanted to follow up on this by saying thank you for the reply and for clarifying the points I raised.

I went ahead and bought the theme and I’ve already started working with it. I definitely recommend the theme to anyone “on the fence” as it were.

Thanks again.

Thank you for the purchase. As we mentioned in our reply to jmbyerly, the discussion for a widget ready footer in taking place amongst our team on Monday.

It’s refreshing to see a dev who is thinking outside the box…keep up the good work!

Thanks. Much appreciated.

In regards to Kiss-Collective’s post (and my earlier post). I didn’t really mean you should develop the widgets…. More just build the footer out so uses could add them there,

It’s a killer theme….just wish I could drop the widgets into the footer as opposed to the interior sidebar.

Either way, really awesome work – and once again, Greta type!

wearepixel8

We are meeting on Monday to discuss yours and Kiss_Collective’s request for a widget ready footer. You speak, we listen. ;)

As time goes by I keep coming back to this theme. I think it’s primarily because of the typography. Looks fantastic on small screens.

So I noticed you changed your demo hero section video player from YT to some self hosted player. It now works on my iphone 4. What kind of player is this? Is it included with the theme?

wearepixel8

Thanks for the kind words. Typography is something we do not take lightly here and a lot of effort and work went into making sure the typography would not fall apart across varied screen sizes.

Yes, we have listened to customer requests and built in a solution for self hosted videos with a custom designed HTML5 video player using the jPlayer plugin. This option will be available in v1.0.2 which was just submitted to the que.

Can the main navigation links be aligned to the right for browser windows 574px wide or larger?

Thanks.

I tried posting on your support forum, but it didn’t work :(

I’ve registered and when I go to Customer Support » Sans WordPress Theme to add a new topic including a Title, Post, Tags and hit Send Post nothing happens.

wearepixel8

That is odd. We see your account and have been receiving new posts today. Would you mind please trying again?

For anyone on the fence about this theme… I bought it last night and am loving the good design, easy admin, and attention to detail throughout. WeArePixel8 did a great job on this.

wearepixel8

Thanks for the ringing endorsement.

It’s really nice but it doesn’t work well in IE 8 which unfortunately still make up a lot of our visitors.

The font doesn’t look as smooth as Chrome and the video doesn’t work.

wearepixel8

Can you describe a little more about what is happening with the video in IE8 ? Are you referring to self hosted videos or oEmbed videos? Unfortunately, there isn’t much we can do to solve how Windows renders fonts for the screen, but we can try to address issues with video playback.

Wow oh wow. This theme is fabulous, guys and girls! I’m not gonna lie, I bought it for the typography :B You guys really excelled in that regard! I also would love to see a widgetized footer, but I’m not dependent on it. Something I would like to see myself is the ability to use HTML in both the hero and callout sections, or more customization options for those sections (for example, I’d like to use the callout section as a short About Me and include an image, but that’s currently not possible, right?). I’d also like to throw my hat in on the side of an optional right-align for the menu on larger screens — I’m not using an image in the hero section and the right part of the page feels a bit empty.

I am struggling with the menu, however — My pages have letters with descenders in their names and the descenders are cut off. That’s the only problem I’ve had, however, and I’m enjoying customizing the theme to my style. Thanks for this breath of fresh air on Themeforest — you guys really nailed it with this theme :) Congrats!

wearepixel8

Thanks for the kind words. The team had a quick pow-wow to discuss the following:

  • Widget area in the footer
  • Drop down menus

Since there seems to be an overwhelming request for both of these, we will be addressing them in v1.0.3, which we hope to release before the end of the week.

Thanks for pointing out the problem with the menu items that have descenders. That will be addressed as well.

If you put letters like ‘g’ in menu items in main menu they will be cut off. Not sure if it’s a feature, but a bottom:2px in sans-main-menu seems to solve it.

wearepixel8

Thanks. We have been made aware and will be addressing the issue in v1.0.3.

Stunning – really breaks the mold of themes that tend to look “templaty and wordpressy.” This looks like a pro website and the larger typography (though child themes can shrink and alter the look) makes for easy readability. Sort of like the new smashingmagazine website – hopefully the days of micro text are gone.

As an owner of your Artisan Creatif theme I can’t stress to potential buyers enough how bullet proof your themes are. They always look great on tons of different devices and the code is very clean and easy to alter.

This theme has very little bloat and loads lighting fast considering how feature rich it is. It scores very well on google page speed tests and pingdom tests.

Be proud of this theme!

wearepixel8

Thanks TroyJason,

We are very proud of Sans and have worked extensively to make sure that this theme does not feel like a WordPress blog. One of the top requests we receive from our clients is just that and we wanted to develop a theme based on this premise.

Thanks again for the very kind words.

Can i replace the stock text? using google fonts or something similar.

wearepixel8

The theme is using a font served by Google, but you are more than welcome to make that change in a child theme.

Hi, Will this theme work with the WooTumblog plugin? Specifically, I’d like to be able to submit posts using the Express iPhone app.

Also, do I understand correctly that the theme only supports one post type, “portfolio”?

Thanks!

wearepixel8

Having never used the WooTumblog plugin, we cannot say that the theme will or will not work as intended and, yes, the theme only comes with one custom post type.

Great theme!

I may be doing something wrong, but when using the child theme, it seems as though I cannot change the ‘Template’ of any of my pages. Under ‘Page Attributes’, there are only drop down menus for ‘Parent’ and ‘Order’, no ‘Template’.

I’m currently using the child theme and would like to change my portfolio page to an actual portfolio page, but I cannot. Also, I’m hesitant to change the theme back to the original one because it will cause me to lose all my settings, right?

Amazing theme!

just a few questions.

Can you delete some of the sections on the frontpage? Like get rid of recent posts section?

Is it me or does it look like the blue texture background (just below header) is flickering in Chrome?

Can I see the other option color and some admin screenhots?

wearepixel8

The home page sections are all optional. Screenshots are available by clicking the “Screenshots” button on the item page.

Thanks…one last questions, Can you switch out that video on frontpage with an image. So you would have the background image, the content on left with another image where video is?

wearepixel8

That is a customization you can quickly execute in a child theme.

wesleysoccer

Thanks…I will purchase.

very close to selling this to a client though they are asking for the old ‘slideshow on the homepage’. i see reading these comments that it is in fact possible to have one in the portfolio and gallery format pages. is it then possible to make one of those pages the homepage so you end up with a slider there ? let me know. great to see this theme though.. a big step away from common.

wearepixel8

Though you can make any page your static front page, we are not certain that this will give you the desired effect you are looking for.

Default-user

do you mean that it wouldnt have a group of large horizontal images that ran in a sequence ?

wearepixel8

No. The responsive slide we have built is a 4:3 aspect ratio and not a 16:9. So, if you are looking for something like the latter, this probably would not be the theme for you out of the box.
