HI,

Thank you for the theme.

Question:

I like to learn a couple things. Your insight or direction would be appreciated. Shortly said I would like to have a subsection of this blog posts on the Selfy theme home page http://themecanon.net/themes/selfy-default/blog-full-width/

We have a WP Dev that can edit. The thought was if it requires code changes you would communicate which file/s to edit.

BTW I notice on same link, the quote (2nd from the top) how is that created? Maybe you can point me to directions as wel.

Thank you Frank

Hi Frank,

This is a quote post format, you can select this when creating your post.

Hi thanks for quick reply. Great and the first question as well, regarding posting the entire format of the given link?

Can you explain what you mean by subsection? if you just want your blog as the home page, you can already do this under WordPress settings front page display:

Hi,

Is there anyway to duplicate the different sections that are included on the home page. I want to duplicate the “About Us” section so i have another text area on the home page.

Is it possible to duplicate the different sections that are available on the home page?

thanks

Kieran

Hi Kieran, No sorry, the home page is not flexible in this way.

Hi – loving your theme! I’d love to hide the featured image for my posts. I’ve selected Hide from Gallery as well as Hide Featured Image from post slider – - this results in the featured image being hidden from the post page itself, but the featured image is still displayed on the blog page above the excerpt. I’d like to hide the featured image from this blog page. Any info sincerely appreciated – thanks!

Forgot to mention: I really want to keep specifying a featured image, for optimal SEO… but I don’t want to see that large image on the blog page. That’s why I’m asking. Thanks!

Hi, I’m afraid it is not possible to have a featured image but then not display it on the blog page. You will need to customize the theme to achieve this variant.

I purchased Selfy as part of an Envato bundle. Am I not able to upgrade it?

Hi Tim,

Try adding this to the Final Call CSS section in the advanced tab instead.

That worked, thank you! Is it possible to adjust the vertical placement of masthead text? I’m not finding a way to do so.

Try this:

#slides .cta {
    margin-top: 300px;
}

Hi Guys I’ve been using Selfy for a long time, and I still love it. I’ve been able to make it mine by adding plugins, deeply amending CSS … it’s just great.

Still, I have one unsolved question. I currently have about 7k photos on my wp, and you can imagine, numerous galeries and gallery posts. My point is that it’s quite difficult to identify each gallery compared to another given the number. I was therefor wondering how could I display the gallery post title over or below the gallery picture displayed in a gallery page. For now we can see a magnifying glass over the picture, but would be great to have more info displayed. Any help would be most welcome. many thx

Hi, I’m afraid we don’t have that option in our theme. You will need to reprogramme the theme to achieve this. Perhaps you could consider looking for a gallery plugin that offers this functionality :)

Hi,

I have problem with my ‘Show All’ function. If the ‘Show All’ button is clicked, all thumbnails are disappearing. Do I have to re-install the theme? If I do, how do I do it and will it replace/overwrite all my current settings?

Thank you

Hi, this issue was fixed in an update. If the version you have has the Envato WordPress Toolkit bundled you can use this plugin to 1-click update. If you have an earlier version where the Toolkit is not included you will need to update manually by deleting the old theme and then installing the new one. Your settings (and content) should be intact after the update – but to make sure you can use the Import/export settings function in General Settigns.

Hi,

Thank you so much for the help! Everything works just fine now!

Hi, I am having a few issues with the sizing of thumbs in the gallery (full width). For some reason if the featured image is large then they all reduce to a certain size but if the featured image is not so large then the gallery thumb does not retain the exact height measurements.

I have figured out a hack fro this by making sure smaller images have a ratio of 332:194 but this compromises the images sometimes as I may want them at a different ratio.

Any ideas?

Hi, WordPress cannot correctly crop images that are smaller than the size it tries to crop into. The gallery tries to crop images to a size of 676×394 pixels so you must use images that are larger than this or your image will not be cropped correctly :) If you need to use smaller images you will have to change the crop sizes which can be done in the selfy/functions.php around line 164 – remember to regenerate your thumnails after you change the sizes (download and run a plugin such as regenerate thumbnails.)

HI Again,

Can you help with this?

We want to add a page features, thus a question. If you can share the code to do this that would be awesome. I’m happy to pay or donate.

I’ve created new pages using the Default Template (non Blog Pages). I’d like to include a few additional features in it, which I see in the Category Pages. Thus would mean I need to add a new Template and use a mix of Default Template and Category Page.

Example Category Pages
http://themecanon.net/themes/selfy-default/category/gallery-2/
http://themecanon.net/themes/selfy-default/category/uncategorized/
http://themecanon.net/themes/selfy-default/category/gallery/

New Page template is based on the current Default Template, but it would include the ability to:
- Add blog posts
- – When adding the blog posts, if possible, add blogs by category or sub category
- show them as seen in the Example Category Pages, the way they are stacked
  • That is the minimum need.

Not coding WP myself, I am guessing it might be possible to start with a category template and achieve something similar?

    What do you think?

Hi, I’m afraid we do not assist with customizations of this nature :)

Hi

Another Question

Can you point me to the code needed to use the Home Page http://themecanon.net/themes/selfy-default/ Hero Look (i.e. Above the fold Image, and Text with or without Slider etc) so to have a Another New Template Page?

So for example this AboutMe Page http://themecanon.net/themes/selfy-default/about-me/ would have have the similar look above the fold to the Home Page.

What do you think?

Hi, I’m afraid that a customization like this is beyond the scope of our support service :)

(Please keep follow up comments to the same thread that you have already started, thanks) :)

Hi, the homepage code is located in selfy/index.php and the hero units are located in the folder selfy/inc/templates :)

Hi. I really like the theme, but I’m wondering if I’ve understood the functionality of the posts slider correctly. I know that I can create a new post slide that uses the featured image of the article (for instance). I see the list of posts, and the slider editor correctly pulls the featured image, the title and the excerpt of the post. So far so good.

However, when I see the actual slide on the page, there is only the featured image with the excerpt overlaid on top. The title of the post doesn’t show, and there is no link to the post either. Shouldn’t these two things appear on the slide as well?

On the documentation it says that “If you want to include a link to the post the post link is displayed in the ‘Link’ field for easy copy/pasting.” Does this mean that if the user wants to add the link to the slide, they need to write all the appropriate HTML markers and paste the link in between them? And if they want the post title to appear, does that have to be manually added as well (along with the HTML codes)? If this is the case, it seems a lot more complicated than it should be.

Hi empirebeige, I’m not exactly sure what you are asking can you try and be a little more specific?

Regards, Theme Canon
emailEmail   emailFacebook

I mean that could the post slide creator work in the following way:

- The text in the “Slide title” field would automatically appear as the title on the slide, above the excerpt

- The link in the “Link” field would appear on the slide as a “read more” link (instead of functioning just as a field from which the user has to manually copy the link and place it among HTML markers)

Based on what the user interface looks like, I assumed that it was going to work like this. But at least on my system, when you create a new post slide (without adding any HTML in the text field), it just produces a slide with the featured image and the text excerpt. It doesn’t seem to generate the title, nor a link to the actual post.

Hi, when you add a Post slide you can select a post and the slide will display that post’s featured image. You are also given a text input that can contain HTML. You will have to add markup such as titles and links if you want a specific setup. Titles and links are not added automatically as this gives an extra dimension of freedom to build the text box any way you like. We thank you for your suggestion but I’m afraid the work flow you are requesting is not how our slider currently works.

Hey! Do you have any docs on how to update your theme? Thanks so much!

Hi, please read the documentation that comes with the theme bundle – specifically the section called “Theme Updates” :)

Haha, my apologies. Long weekend. ;)

How do I add an instagram social media icon?

Hi Joe, the icon font that is used does have instagram as an option sorry. We will look at updating this in the future theme update.

Love the clean design and large readable text. One question – Can a single blog post be in “full width” mode?

I see the full width option for the blog homepage at http://themecanon.net/themes/selfy-dark/blog-full-width-neat/ However, I don’t see any options for such full width for a single blog post.

Thanks, Akash

Hi Akash,

Can you use the support tab above and send me your site/login details so I can do this for you.

One more thing. I would like the Full width blog to be the homepage of the website – i.e. http://themecanon.net/themes/selfy-dark/blog-full-width/

However, I do not see any way to do this. Changing the “Settings -> Readings -> Front Page” has no effect. The homepage shows up as the blog front page – http://themecanon.net/themes/selfy-dark/

Is there any setting to simply disable the homepage with sliders and info.

Thanks, Akash

Thanks. Just saw your second message. I was testing this on my dev machine. I’ll setup the theme on the main website and send you details via the Support tab.

Hi, I’m having problems with the website loading in Safari on mobile. Any thoughts? Also, looking for the theme updates file in the documentation and can’t seem to find it. I didn’t know if needing to update the theme was causing the problem with Safari / Mobile. Thank you!

Got the theme updated. Still having problems loading website on mobile in Safari. Menu isn’t showing up as well as the main header image.

Hi, Can you use the support tab and email us your URL and perhaps login details so we can investigate?

Hi, I’ve purchased the theme and love it, although I can’t seem to find the Gallery (Full Width Page) anywhere. Is there any chance you can upload that as a separate file for me to upload into the theme? Perhaps as an XML file? Would that work? Please let me know ASAP.

Thank you.

I’ve found the template ‘Gallery Full Width’ but I can’t see anything to edit and when I view my page there’s missing demo content and some demo content so I’m really confused.

Hi, sorry for the late reply over the weekend. Please open a ticket at our support forum and we will try to help you out :)

Hi ThemeCanon. I buy yout theme with The Blogger Bundle and what can I say – it is great. I have only one problem – yout use fonts without Polish signs which don’t look good: http://mycha.eu/

Hi, The bundle theme was not elegible for support. However you should be able to able to change to another font that supports all polish glyphs in the theme settings.

Ok, thx. But one question – why dots changing quotes doesen’t work? http://mycha.eu/

Have you any 3rd party plugins that could be interfing with this? Your version of the theme is very old, I suggest updating to the latest release.
