Hi, I am loving my new Serendipity theme, but would love to know how to change the fonts size in the navigation menu. I am new to wordpress, so any help would be much appreciated

elemis

Hi,

If you can send us an email via the contact form on our profile page we can send you the necessary files to enable menu size setting in theme options.

Hi there,

Love the theme, but I’m having trouble with the gallery. Is there a way to create the same one you have in the preview of Serendipity? Or do I need to download that otherwise?

Thanks!

elemis

Hi,

Have you followed the instructions on the help documentation to create a gallery? What needs to be done is explained step by step. Also if you install the dummy content you will have sample posts and pages to work on.

Hi,

The thumbnails are generated with a script called TimThumb. Please check out this guide for using TimThumb for images from external websites like Flickr: http://www.binarymoon.co.uk/2010/08/timthumb-part-2-external-websites/

Hi,

I have my blog fully working on a free wordpress theme (Twenty Eleven) and I want to change to the Serendipity.

I am a photographer and publish a lot of images using the plugin EasyRotator (a JQuery slideshow which works great on any browser, etc).

My question is if Serendipity will work with the settings that I already use on my blog.

My blog’s address is http://blog.elainesantana.com.br

Thanks, Elaine

elemis

Hi,

Can you please provide more specific details about what you need? So we can have a total understanding? Would appreciate if you can give your examples with page links and screenshots. Thank you.

Default-user

Hi,

Ok, so here they are:

http://blog.elainesantana.com.br/san-pedro-de-atacama/ – This one has a slide show. http://blog.elainesantana.com.br/iquique-e-a-regiao-de-tarapaca/ – This one has photos along the text.

This would be like I’d like the posts to look like.

Thank you

elemis

Hi,

We don’t see any reason for the slideshow plugin you use not to work with Serendipity. And if it doesn’t you can find many great plugins for the same purpose. You can add images along the text in Serendipity as well.

Default-user

Ok. So I went ahead and bought your theme.

Now, it looks like Brazilian ponctuation marks doesn’t work on the titles. Will I have to re-write all of the titles?

:(

elemis

Hi,

The default font probably doesn’t support those special characters. Have you tried other existing heading/menu font options?

Default-user

I see it on the live preview page, I haven´t made the change yet, because it seems like I will have to edit all of my posts. I can’t do it in the middle of the day, when I get the most access to my blog.

Both the header with the pages AND the titles on the post don’t take the ponctuation. Can I change the fonts for both?

elemis

Yes you can change the fonts for both.

I downloaded Royal Slider for Wordpress and every time I post the short code on a page or a post the entry comes up blank (see sugar bump.com/test page). Also what is the difference in the paid version and the free version, I noticed shortly after I had paid $40 that you had a free version available.

elemis

Hi,

We couldn’t reach the test page with the link you provided. If you can give us permission to your wordpress admin we can take a closer look. You can send the credentials to us via the contact form on our profile page.

elemis

By the way the theme is not offered for free anywhere. We only share the Photoshop mockup file on our freebies website.

hi,

a gorgeous theme! just need to clarify a few things . > how to add a contact page – i don’t see a shortcode or page option for this. > how to change the font options

thanks!

elemis

Hi,

If you install the dummy content you can have sample posts and pages including the contact page. You can find instructions on installing the dummy content in the help documentation. If you don’t install the dummy content you can find the form shortcode in the help documentation, there is also a video screencast in the help file.

You can change the fonts through the Typography tab in the theme options panel.

adding to my questions – how do i change the size of the images per post? the featured image does not seem to have a resize. so in that case, do i just use the “insert media”? in this case, how will the image differ when using the featured image function?

thanks!

elemis

If you upload an image with 1040px of width or higher, it will fit in the content box as you can see here: http://themes.iki-bir.com/serendipity-wp/2012/05/parturient-nibh-venenatis-mollis/ But if you upload one that has a smaller width, then it will be displayed as centered like this: http://themes.iki-bir.com/serendipity-wp/2012/04/etiam-inceptos-vehicula/

hi,

thanks for the response. as to the fonts, i was referring to fonts not included in the theme – is it possible to use them.

how come the comment form that i have is different from the one in your demo site? also may i ask what social media plugin are you using for the sharing options per post?

thanks!

elemis

Hi,

We use @font-face for the fonts. You can use any font you would like by generating its @font-face kit and integrating it in the theme. Here’s a tutorial that should guide you on using @font-face: http://www.miltonbayer.com/font-face/

Can you please provide your website URL so we can take a look on your comment form?—Please note that if you are logged in, you won’t see name, email and website fields. That may be the difference you see.

We use Social Sharing Toolkit for sharing options. You can find its link in the help documentation (FAQ – Social Sharing)

Hi Elemis,

Thanks nice theme, I have put some feedback below. Basically, I would like more options to be added to your theme options.

1) I want to be able to reduce the amount of space in the header area. Specifically, the area above the theme. An option for this would be great in the theme.

2) Delete, “Home / About” on a page. As I feel its a double up. As you have the Page title on the page anyway. Or have the option.

3) Be able to remove search bar from the theme options.

4) Option to make the page title be on the left hand side, centre or right hand side. At the moments its in the centre.

Nice theme, but don’t think I will be able to use it for my project that I brought it for as I have limited code editing skills and assumed too much for this purchase. Will stick to wp themes with indepth theme options that I can also preview. Gutted would have liked to have used it.

Hi,

Your requests are easy to achieve with basic custom CSS . We cannot put every little thing in the theme options panel, but when our clients have requests we provide help.

1. If you can provide more specific details, we can help you on this.

2. Breadcrumbs are important for SEO , so we don’t recommend removing. But if you insist you can hide the breadcrumbs with the following CSS code, please paste it into the Custom CSS field in the theme options panel:

#crumbs {
display:none;
}

3. Please paste the following code into the Custom CSS field in the theme options panel:

.social .widget_search {
display:none;
}

4. Centered elements were the starting point of this theme. So we cannot imagine it would look good making some elements aligned left or right instead of center, while others still are centered. But if you insist on having the page titles left, we can help you on this as well.

Default-user

Thank you Elemis, I am impressed with your professional customer service.

More info about the above changes wanted for future theme updates. 1. The space above the theme which is just the background. I want to reduce that to about 5px. The space above the logo etc, To lift the logo up higher.

2. Would like to reduce the white space/ size where the logo is. The header area.

3. minus symbols. ”-” do not show up in page tiles for some reason.

4. How hard is it to get a right had side bar. There is only widgets for the footer.

5. I am using the white timber background, when I refresh the page is turns “black” first before the background image uploads. Just checked in firefox browser and it doesn’t do this but It does this in Chrome browser.

elemis

Hi,

1. The below code is the default style for the space around the page. You can reduce the value 50px as you wish.

#page {
    margin: 50px auto;
}

2. The below codes are the default style for the space around the logo and social media icons. You can reduce those values as well.

#site-title {
    padding: 39px 0 0;
}

.social {
    top: 51px;
}

3. The default font seems not to support ”-” character. Please choose another font that come with the theme which supports the character.

4. We received so many one-column theme requests from our clients in the past so we built this theme around this idea. Serendipity cannot include a sidebar because the images, videos and gallery are full-width and most of the elements are centered.

5. You can change the background color to white or to another color you would like so until the background image is loaded, that solid color is displayed.

Maybe it’s just me, but it seems that Wordpress 3.4.2 broke image captions so they ended up looking like regular text. In case this has happened to anyone else, the following taken from TwentyTen’s code can be entered into style.css to fix it.

.wp-caption {
    background: #f1f1f1;
    line-height: 18px;
    margin-bottom: 20px;
    max-width: 632px !important; /* prevent too-wide images from breaking layout */
    padding: 4px;
    text-align: center;
}
.wp-caption img {
    margin: 5px 5px 0;
}
.wp-caption p.wp-caption-text {
    color: #888;
    font-size: 12px;
    margin: 5px;
}
.gallery .gallery-caption {
    color: #888;
    font-size: 12px;
    margin: 0 0 12px;
}

Hi There- Love the theme, but having a slight issue with the picture display on an Ipad or other device. I’ve chosen the “Large” picture size and it looks fine on a web browser, but on a device it it sized too large so that it protrudes from the margin. The site is sfnomads.com. Any helpful hints to correct this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! Patrick

Hi,

This is related to the captions having a certain width. Please paste the following code into the Custom CSS field in the theme options panel:

.wp-caption {
max-width: 100%;
}
Default-user

Thanks for the info, I input the Custom CSS and it doesn’t seem to have fixed the problem. As you said, it only affects pictures that have a caption. If there is no caption, they are sized properly.

elemis

Hi,

You seem to have pasted the code with pre tags. Please make sure you remove pre tags in Custom CSS field.

Just bought your theme. Loving it. I was just wondering if there would be a reason why videos aren’t pinnable. I’m using the digg digg social plugin, and features images pin fine. However, when I try to pin a video, nothing shows. Any idea?

elemis

Hi,

This is related to Pinterest itself. We are not sure if it will work for Digg Digg, but if you add featured images to video posts, the posts become pinnable with the social media plugin we use (Social Sharing Toolkit).

1. When I post a video it goes edge to edge. Awesome.

2. However when I embed video on a “page” it doesn’t quite work like that, and extends past the edges. Seems to be some kind of border problem. Firebug didn’t reveal much…

See for yourself: http://shawnchittle.com/wordpress/films-video/

Thoughts?

elemis

Hi,

You can use video shortcode to fix the extending problem like seen below:

But if you would like manually embedded videos to appear edge to edge, please give us permission to your wordpress admin so we can help you on this with a little customization. You can send the credentials to us via the contact form on our profile page.

Hi !! Is there a way to disable the featured image from the single blog post?!

elemis

Hi,

You mean from single image post format, right? You can hide it via CSS . Please paste the code below into the Custom CSS field in the theme options panel:

.single-format-image .full-size {
display:none;
}
