Hi there,

Can you clear something up, a lot of developers online have been stating that single page sites are poor performers in relation to SEO ? Is this true?

I just didn’t want to recomend this to a client if it was going to retard thier SEO efforts.

Ta

That’d be the case with a lot of one-page sites… not this one though, as it’s actually a full WordPress theme that just happens to include a “one-page” landing template… there’s still plenty of SEO juice across the blog, pages, posts, etc :)

Plus, this features completely SEO friendly markup and hash-tag locations even on the front page. B

Nice template and interested with this one, one question too, I worried about one page theme like this, “slow loading”. Do you have any smart idea about that? I mean to make faster loading with this theme.

One more, seemed that you shortage of ideas to create new theme with the new concept too.

Be creative dude! :D Good luck!

MDNW
MDNW Author

Hi Creative!

The entire site (the demo) loads in under 4s on YSlow, which is crazy fast considering I’m not using any caching or speed plugins whatsoever (I usually turn them on after a week of testing/tweaking the content).

That said, one-page themes have generally gotten a bad rap in the past because developers try to do too much… pinging the database a thousand times and trying to run 500 scripts to make it manageable to even have a one-page layout… that’s not the case with this theme, which is notably conservative on the developers side, only pings the DB when it absolutely needs to, and the JS is friendly with loading times.

This theme was actually designed as a “rebuttal” more or less to the original ShapeShifter, which was wildly popular (it sold over 2k times in a few months), but honestly wasn’t built for expansion or speed – which this one is ;)

Finally, you can always use something like SuperCache or the other caching plugins to make the homepage load even faster.

Hope that helps! B

Bummer. I bought the original ShapeShifter yesterday and discovered it has issues. Should have read the Comment page first (http://themeforest.net/item/shapeshifter-one-page-infinite-possibilities/discussion/75759 ). A lot of unhappy campers there looking for support. :\

Any chance i could convert my license to Shapeshifter 2? I bought ShapeShifter 1 less than 24 hours ago! :( I have been wrestling with ShapeShifter 1 for 8 hours with no success on the slider. Or will you be fixing compatibility issues on ShapeShifter 1 now that ShapeShifter 2 apparently embodies some solutions?

Will do. Thank you.

I’ve never seen anyone trying to take advantage of TF like you do. It’s amazing.

Just think for a second, just image if everybody would do like you? If everybody release a NEW version of their theme because it’s responsive. And it’s not the first time you do this .. You’ve release Atlantica like 8 times .. and then pacifica, wich is the same thing .. over and over again.

I can’t believe they let you do that.

Heya Danny! It’s been a while, and I’ve missed your sour heckling comments that are shaded in with jealousy, so you can imagine it was a joy when I worked super hard to release a new theme that I’ve been collaborating with my buyers on and I woke up to this awesome little bit of comment hate. “Merry Christmas”, I said! The guy that’s been threatened to be banned more than anyone else on the site is commenting on my product!.

But then I thought, “Does he get mad when Apple releases a new phone and just “tacks on a 5” at the end of it? What about car companies? Computers?”. Well, you might… because you’re Danny Duchaine, and if you can bash someone for releasing something that’s appealing, sells well, and integrates new features and hard work, you will.

See, like it or not, we’re in the industry of selling consumer products. I know, I know, you like to tell yourself that you’re an artist. You’re too good for this stuff. I know. You’re Danny and you’re better than everyone else here.

But the thing is that people have been requesting this theme… I’ve been working hard with beta testers to get it “just right”.

I re-coded the entire thing from the ground up (not a SINGLE line of code is in here from the original theme – it was redone from scratch). Hell, even the design is markedly different (or maybe you’re calling anything with a similar nav/content structure is “the same”, in which case you’re awfully guilty my friend).

Furthermore, it includes features that the original theme didn’t even dream of, and it’s extendable as all get-out. In summary, it’s a new theme, with an old name, and I’m damned proud of it. :P

Great theme – just a couple questions and apologies if they are somewhat amateurish. Would the following plugins and/or widgets work work with the template:

We need to sign up for classes, and submit your payment thru pay pal.

We need a calendar to show upcoming events.

Purchase some dvd’s and pay thru paypal.

Thanks much, and again, great work…

MDNW

Hi Rachel!

I don’t see why not… this is of course dependent upon the actual plugins themselves… but there’s nothing inside this theme that isn’t up to the specifications of WordPress’s latest standards (it passes all theme review tests with flying colors). As with any third-party plugins, there’s a good chance you’ll need to add your own custom skinning (basic CSS stuff), but the theme should do nicely with this – it even includes a spot for you to add your own custom CSS :)

It sounds like a basic shop plugin like MarketPress will do the trick for ya though!

Cheers! Brandon

Lol – thanks Province dudes! :) The truly ironic thing is that I kinda enjoy the controversy (and I love a good philosophical argument)... I wrestle with the same points that danny brings up weeks before I publish a theme, and I resolve them in my own mind/conscience before I hit submit. Anyone who’s bought from me knows I’m not any sort of hackjob or fly by night operation (and there’s plenty of those here on TF). I support my products like they were my children, and buyers get the benefits ;)

Cheers! B

Makes “dudes” into “dude”. :D

I understand completely. You have simply picked up on a great money making idea. If I had this idea I would see it through. There have been two authors who have done this kind of thing recently. You and Parrarallleleelelelus.

First of all your Responsive Super Skeleton Themes.

And Parallelelalalaussus’ BuddyPress themes.

Oh and by the way, we are the ones who were going to do that WordPress framework series on wptuts+. But instead we made 3 themes and released them on here. So we decided to scrap that tutorial series. I just thought I would be to the point there. :D

Anyway if you wanna debate anytime we are on Twitter: @dabluephoenix

Regards, George

Edit: This was a strange post.

MDNW
MDNW Author

Oh hey George! I knew you looked familiar, but your profile page uses the collective ‘we’, so I just assumed you were a legion of coder ninjas ;)

Oh, and no worries about the Wptuts series, I know better than anyone that it’s way more lucrative to push more themes. When you want to pitch a tutorial though, just holler! I’m sure our readers would benefit from your knowledge!

Cheers! B

ThemeProvince

Hi Brandon,

Sorry for misleading, I put “we” just so my buyers don’t suspect I am a 19 year old which I feel will lose sales :)

About the wptuts, if I find any time I will finish the tutorial and send you an email in the distant future.

Regards, George

I give this fight to Brandon. I have purchased several themes from both Brandon and Danny and there’s nothing wrong with Brandon’s work.

Danny, after a couple of your themes it became very clear that you were recycling and regurgitating the same code from one theme to the next. The CSS code would be the same from one project to another and even comment tags in the code were picked up from previous themes.

Just changing the imagery of a project and the layout, somewhat, doesn’t make it that original. You can tell many elements remain unchanged from one theme to the next. Don’t you think you’re being a tad hypocritical? “Tad”, that’s too kind.

Brandon, I applaud you for listening and going through the beta testing and getting out yet another great theme. It is clean, loads efficiently and is quite beautiful in its simplicity. True power lies in making something complex seem simple. ANd give it a couple of days to iron out some kinks here and there from user feedback (vital!) and this theme will be rock solid as is all your other work.

As a consumer, I will be buying this product because I will always want the next “iPhone” or other great product, because it is better than it’s predecessor.

Hi Brandon, Very nice theme! Question, I noticed that the slider does not scale proportionately when the browser window is re-sized to be a single column (mobile device) Is this correct? Is this slider code different from the slider in the super-skeleton theme?

Thanks

MDNW
MDNW Author

Heya Lab!

It’s the same slider/code from SuperSkeleton, so yes, if you’re doing a lot of browser resizing it can get funky… As with all responsive designs, it’s mostly setup for that initial load on a phone/tablet/device/etc. :)

Good to see ya here though!

Cheers! B

Ok just to answer really quickly and we can both go back to your thing.

For the part where you say that I think I am an artist .. it’s funny because I think you are far more artistical and talented then me.

Taking and old theme and making it better is not a bad thing in itself. If you had your own themeshop and you would release it as a new product .. fine but here it’s different.

The fact that you release this theme today is not harmful at all and everybody wins .. you, your customer, TF .. it’s perfect.

The problem is that if everyone see that they can do that .. it’s gonna be a mess, don’t you agree just a little?

MDNW
MDNW Author

Good point Danny! Honestly, it’s a razor thin fine line that I’m walkin when I release a product with the same name as one from last year… I get it.

I respect the heck out of your work as well, but if you (or anyone else on here) had an old theme that was in dire need of a rework, I’d be okay with it because it serves the buyers… Frankly, it’s bound to happen at some point. It just doesn’t make sense to release 100’s of hours of work as an ‘update’ here because TF doesn’t do much with it… Not to mention that the reworked theme wouldn’t actually be an update as its based on a new code base and framework.

Should there be a high bar set for the quality and nature of these “version 2’s”? Yes! But for you to say that I just ‘made it responsive’ and threw it up here as a product to someone take advantage of the system is proposterous.

Furthermore, starting up a public forum post on the topic without actually doing any due diligence (did you even bother looking at the code of each theme?!) is way beyond rude man. Have a little respect and courtesy for you fellow themers and maybe we’ll do the same for you. I’m busy enough supporting my products like a crazyman, dealing with another themer second guessing whether I did the work to make a theme “sale-worthy” is kinda bs dude. Save it for the new authors. If you respect the work that I do, at least give me the benefit of the doubt next time and trust that I’m working my tail off to release pure, unadulterated awesome sauce. ;)

Alright, the world can carry on now.

Love you like a brother D!

I think respect is more important than a friendship, because if it you have a partner or anothers authors at your side, it’s better respect they work and try to do your best over and over again!... I’m a new author, still working in my first theme but, really the first one need to care more abour the last ones coming from the bottom. epicera, I really respect and love your work all the time from the Atlantica and you more than others authors, you was the one make me learn the way to create webpages (beautiful ones). Btw, I’m still in the proccess of learning and try to bring out goods competitives works.

Wish you luck on sell of this awesome theme.

Not sure to be honest… it’s working for me – are you logged into FB? It’s technically a lightbox feature… so you can check out the official page for documentation, but so far it seems to be working fine when you’re loggedin. B
