Also, trying to figure out good sizing for the homepage slideshow image files and can’t seem to get it so the images are not blurry. Is there a good width/height combo I should be saving the images as to be optimized for the slideshow?

The slider has the width of 930 px and the height set in the theme options (Theme Options -> Home Page Options -> Slider Height). Please note that images are automatically resized for the slider.

Hi, great theme. I have just purchased it. I am having problems loading the sample content file to reload the template. I have followed the instructions in the documentaion but I am unclear as to which file to select to upload. Wordpress upload has been proving temperamental so am uploading using FileZilla. Any help would be gratefully received. Many thanks in advance

You can find the sample content file (shinytheme.2012-03-12.xml) in the ‘sample content’ folder.

Is there a way to disable the post date in the recent post shortcode? I’ve tied this theme into a calendar and would prefer event dates to display in recent posts with the JPEGs rather than the date the event was originally posted.

There is no option to turn this date off, but you can try to add the following code to the Custom CSS box (Theme Options -> Styling Options):
.fancy_date { display: none; }

Worked thank you so much :)

Thanks, that worked a treat. I had not ticked the box to download file and attachments. Thank you for your prompt response.

Just purchased, great looking theme (would love it responsive but can’t have everything I guess). One major problem however is that it will not install. Cannot upload the zip (yes, have unzipped already and am uploading the internally zipped file) and am getting a “are you sure you want to do this” message from wordpress installer, which then takes me back to the install page. I can ftp the unzipped folder which appears coorectly in the wp admin themes list, but activation throws an error and the preview shows a blank screen. Using WP 3 .3.1.

Error message is : “http://www.<mysitename>.com/development/wp-admin/themes.php?action=activate&template=shiny&stylesheet=shiny&_wpnonce=28c4c32d55. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.”

Please send me an e-mail with your FTP login and password and WP admin access – I’ll help you with that.

So… fresh install on a completely different server, Wordpress 3.3.1 auto installed through mediatemple… theme install does not work and get the same result as above. Other themes installing fine.

You are the first one of our customers with such problem. Please send me all details and I’ll try to help you with that.

Resolved: the filesize was too big for 2 of my servers so added upload_max_filesize variable in php.ini and set at 10M. Now works.

I’m really glad. :)

I reloaded the sample content successfully. I have followed the menu user guide but still cannot see the menus on the home page. I have saved the menus but they don’t appear. I have configured some pages cannot link to them directly. Can you assist please.

You have a menu, but you didn’t assign it to a specific place on your website. Go to Appearance -> Menus and on the left side you can find the Theme Locations box. Pick up your menu from the ‘Header Menu’ dropdown list and click ‘Save’. That’s it. You can find more informations about using WordPress menus here.

Thanks have just tried that and it doesn’t work. When I loaded the sample content the menu headings didn’t appear. Were they supposed to?

It has to work. ;) OK, please send me an e-mail with your WP admin login and password – I’ll configure the menu for you.

Thanks, do I open a support ticket to contact you?

No, just send me an e-mail through the contact form on our profile page.

I’d like to use the tag cloud widget but I want it to pull from the portfolio tags (not the blog post tags). Is there a way to do this?

Also, I’d like to make the very bottom footer (where the copyright and footer menu are) a different color than the widgetized footer. I can’t figure out how to do this in the custom styles options under appearance… http://www.kezarcreative.com/clients/bfcrafts/ Thanks for your help!

You can’t display portfolio tags in the standard tag cloud widget because it doesn’t support custom taxonomies. But I’m sure you can find some alternative in the official plugins repository (for example this one).

To change the copyright area background color please add the following code to the Custom CSS box (Theme Options -> Styling Options):
#copyright_wrapper { background-color: #FFF; }

Is there a way to adjust the featured image size in the posts section so the images displayed smaller when the page opens up. Can I add a special code to the Custom CSS in the styling options?

No, it’s not possible without some template modifications.

Hi, my [image] suddenly stopped working on using this theme and I have no idea why. Could you tell me what I’ve done wrong with the code below? thanks I’m substituting [] with {}...

“{image border=”true” size=”small” align=”left” title=”2011 Summer Camp” href=”http://newyorkcitybadminton.com/?page_id=2700”}http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7216/7006867127_ee9a34f546_m.jpg{/image}

updated: I tried couple of options, basically it seems that I cannot link photos from my flickr account anymore using {image} shortcode. It was working before though.

TimThumb is now safe, so I don’t have plans to use anything else instead of it. The standard WordPress image resizing system isn’t powerful enough. Largest hosting providers allow to use TimThumb.

One more thing: your hosting provides also supports the TimThumb – it just doesn’t allow to use external images with this script. The standard WordPress thumbnails system doesn’t support external images as well – it requires all images to be uploaded to your server.

ah I see, thanks for the prompt responses!

Cufon problem rendering non latin characters. The word ‘Hu?’ is rendering on page load but once cufon kicks in the character disappears and becomes ‘Hu’.

Also, cannot seem to find the control for how many characters are rendered from the excerpt, beneath the title.

This theme doesn’t have a built-in Cufon support, so please ask your question to the author of your Cufon extension.

To change the default excerpt length please edit the ‘functions.php’ file, find the following code:
function e404_excerpt_length($length) {
    return 9999;
and replace 9999 with some other length. You can also use the Advanced Excerpt plugin.

Just to be clear, in your theme the post title on the single post page (index) has the excerpt immediately below it… I would like the whole excerpt to display, currently it shows only a single line of text which is cut off mid word. The whole excerpt is displayed on the post list page and I would like the same on the single post page. The above plugin does not help and I’d rather not mess with the functions file.

Oh, now I understand. You are talking about the Intro Text Box. You can change this excerpt length in the Intro Text Box options (Theme Options -> Intro Text Box -> Post Excerpt Length).

Ahh… missed that bit. Thanks

Can’t seem to get more that 8 posts running on the slider, can you check the syntax is correct: [recent_posts_images_scrollable categories=”hhh” works=”16” title=”ggg”]

No, it’s not correct. There is no ‘works’ param – you should use the ‘posts’ param. There is a mistake in the Shortcode Generator configuration – I’ll fix this in the next theme update.

Wondering if there is an easy way of rendering the category description underneath the archive title? In the same way we have the excerpt underneath the Post title.

Edit the ‘blog-intro-box.php’ file, find the following line:
echo '<h1>'.$category[0]->cat_name.'</h1>';
and after this line add the following code:
echo '<p>'.$category[0]->category_description.'</p>';

Hello, Please can you help?

Client wants the TITLE of the icon box be in a certain colour. Can you help me to adjust that without affecting the heading colour elsewhere. ( I think it is calling for h4 to be used in the TITLE of the icon box) – is there a bit of css that could be added to affect the colour of the ICON BOX TITLE only?

Many thanks.

To change the color of icon box titles (all of them) add the following code to the Custom CSS box (Theme Options -> Styling Options):
h2.icon-box, h2.icon-box a { color: #0A0; }

Hi – another question.

I don’t see a way to hide the blog page title. is there a way? OR is there a way to change the blog page title COLOUR without affecting the colour of other headings? Many thanks

The blog page title is displayed in the Intro Text Box. You can change the content of this area or disable it entirely using theme options (Theme Options -> Intro Text Box -> Intro Text Box for Blog Pages).

Thank you for helping with both our questions so promptly!

I knew I had seen it somewhere… :)

You guys rock!

Hello, I purchased the theme, but I have an issue, when I go to a Category page it displays the first post category as title, and not the category I am in, so for example I am on the page for Category 1, and the first post belongs to Category 2, and Category 1, the theme will display Category 2 as the title.

Any ideas? Thanks.

I can’t reproduce this issue on my end. Please edit the ‘blog-intro-box.php’ file, find the following code:
$category = get_the_category();
echo '<h1>'.$category[0]->cat_name.'</h1>';
and REPLACE it with:
echo '<h1>'.single_cat_title('', false).'</h1>';
Please let me know if it helps.

That did the trick!, thanks.

Hi e404- thanks for all your quick responses, it’s much appreciated! I had another question on the portfolio tags. I’m not sure if I’ve set this up incorrectly or if there’s a glitch… http://www.kezarcreative.com/clients/bfcrafts/projects/projecttags/canvas/

When I click on a portfolio item’s tag, it shows me all the projects with that tag associated, which is good. However, how does one get back to the ‘main’ portfolio, clearing that tag? In the example URL above, I clicked the ‘canvas’ tag and can see the 2 projects that have that tag associated… but now I can’t get back to my /projects page. Intuitively as user, I clicked ‘all’ in the navigation, but that of course is showing me all the projects with those tags, not all of the projects in total.

Sorry, but the sortable portfolio doesn’t work with portfolio tags – it works only with portfolio categories.
