Common WordPress Installation Issues

Missing style sheet error when installing the theme

A common issue that can occur with users new to installing WordPress themes is a “Broken theme and/or stylesheets missing” error message being displayed when trying to upload or activate the theme. This error message does not mean that the theme you have purchased is broken, it simply means it has been uploaded incorrectly. Luckily, there is a very easy fix.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I change text on frontpage: “Show them your work or product” ?

Download package -> PSD -> Small -> gfx -> intro_text.psd

Edit, save as .png and save it to the /gfx/ folder inside the theme itself. There is already this .png file so just rewrite it.

How do I update theme to a newer version?

To update the theme, just rename the current “showtime” folder on your FTP to let’s say “showtime_old_backup” and then install the new version like you are used to. You won’t lose any of your posts, plugins, freshpanel settings or images you have uploaded outside this folder etc. Images are uploaded to the “uploads” folder which is located outside of “showtime” folder. Only thing you could lose is if you have edited my theme’s php or css files. So make sure you are doing your changes at the bottom of css file and then just copy&paste your code from old version to the new one.

DISCLAIMER : freshface doesn’t take any responsibility if you screw up the updating process somehow (0.07% chance) and lost any of your data. You are on your own. Just saying in case somebody would want me to take responsibility for his or her actions. Tutorials on wordpress.org explains very well how to backup everything.

Why is my blog post layout looking broken? (probably after activating the YARPP plugin)

Make sure you have properly set the settings for “Yet Another Related Posts Plugin” (YARPP). Follow the documentation video on this topic or see this screenshot of how it should look:

My images won’t show up, what should I do?

This is most probably caused by internal script “timthumb” which handles the server-side automatic resizing of your images.

Make sure you:

1) Have your images located on the same server/FTP as your theme. Doesn’t have to be in the same folder, just on the same FTP.

2) Set permissions 777 to the “cache” folder inside my theme. Use your FTP client for changing permissions. Google if you don’t know how, there are plenty of tutorials on the web or check out this video

How do I add Google Maps?

http://maps.google.com/ -> Link -> Customize and preview embedded map

Then just paste the embed code via the HTML view in wp-admin when creating any page or post. It works the same way like youtube videos for example.

What is the HTML code you’ve used inside those 6 Home Page Text Widgets?

I am using 3 columns (areas) with 2x Text Widget inside each. Here is the example code from one of them:

<p><img src="http://demo.freshface.net/file/st/wp/wp-content/themes/showtime/gfx/icons/mixx_48.png" alt="image" style="float:left; padding:10px 10px 10px 5px;" />It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal.</p>
