I’m using this shortcode in a page to show 6 post from the ‘news’ category

[showposts number=’6’ grid=’grid_12’ singlepostgrid=’grid_6’ category=”news”]

but I want to show also the time&date of each post, can you explain me how to do that?

thanks

to emprove my showposts shortcode, can you help to add the links to the categories of the posts? I guess is editing $category . . .

webdesignpeople

Hello

Have a look at the_category function: http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/the_category

that will write out categories and their links.

I’m trying to get colorbox gallery popups to work with images on my server vs. galleries. I want a user to be able to view multiple versions of an image on a gallery page. Any way to do with without creating galleries for each individual image. I’ve been to colorbox demo page and can’t figure it out. thanks.

webdesignpeople

Hi

The theme itself doesn’t offer this option but you can manually add extra Colorbox lightboxes.

For example, add this HTML to a page (make sure you’re in HTML view).

<p><a href="http://colorpowered.com/colorbox/core/content/ohoopee1.jpg" title="Me and my grandfather on the Ohoopee." rel="example1">Grouped Photo 1</a></p> <p><a href="http://colorpowered.com/colorbox/core/content/ohoopee2.jpg" title="On the Ohoopee as a child" rel="example1">Grouped Photo 2</a></p> <p><a href="http://colorpowered.com/colorbox/core/content/ohoopee3.jpg" title="On the Ohoopee as an adult" rel="example1">Grouped Photo 3</a></p>

Then add this to the ‘Header script’ panel in Sidelined Options:

<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $("a[rel='example1']").colorbox(); }); </script>

That example comes straight from the Colorbox site, so remember to replace it with your own images.

Hi there, I am just about to purchase your fantastic-looking theme… But first wanted to know if you thought it was possible to make a full screen background image completely static and not scroll, with the content section still scrolling as normal? Is this possible with the way the site is created?

Thank you!! murraydrive

webdesignpeople

Hello

Thanks for your comments.

You can achieve this effect by changing 1 line of CSS in the theme: body{background:#262626 url('../images/yellow-black/background-yellow.jpg') repeat 0 0;}

becomes

body{background:#262626 url('../images/yellow-black/background-yellow.jpg') fixed 0 0;}

All you do is replace ‘repeat’ with ‘fixed’ as in the above example.

Hi there,

I just bought this theme, and it’s amazing. But now i want to ask if it’s possible to have the left Menu placement and center Site alignment, just like the way the horizontal menu have the option center Site alignment. Is there a way this can be done throught the css and/or php files?

Thank you and cheers, Rinaldo

webdesignpeople

Hello

Thanks for your comments. We tried to make this template as flexible as possible, but lLeft-aligned menu and center-aligned site isn’t a supported option and it’d require a total rebuild of the template to allow this work unfortunately.

I bought this theme.. I love it! But I’m having some issues with my blog. I have only posted two posts, and the first post is overflowing on top of the bottom of the theme.

http://www.pilarard.com/blog/

Please let me know what to do. Thanks,

webdesignpeople

Hello

Your latest post contains an extra which is causing this issue. It’s just after the end of your 4th code block. If you put Firebug on you’ll see how the div that’s suppost to encapsulate the entire post is mistakenly closed early because of this.

Another thing. is there any way to get it to show just an summary of the post instead the full post? I have set it up on wordpress under settings > reading, but it doesnt seem to do it.

Using the Wordpress ‘more’ tag will do this.

Hello,

Really enjoy this theme. I have a couple of questions.

1. I have images in columns that view perfectly in safari & firefox but drop down vertically in google chrome!

http://www.oac.com.au/wp

2. With the nivo slider function it is resizing my images, can I stop this? And can I set the transition rate?

Thanks in advance.

Kris

webdesignpeople

Hello

Regarding the Chrome issue, your image tags aren’t closed: <img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-216" title="small groups" src="http://www.oac.com.au/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/oac_home_kids.png" alt="" width="240" height="235" /

Fix that and Chrome will display the images as expected.

To control Nivo’s transition and pause speeds, look in sidelined/functions.js for animSpeed:500, pauseTime:2000,

Changing those values will alter the speeds.

The sliders use a resize script to ensure whatever images you use fit into the space provided. What’s happening that’s causing a problem?

cheers Anthony

Thanks for the fast response Anthony. I’ve fixed the Chrome problem as you suggested.

I have fixed sized imaged throughout the website and I hoped the sliders would look the same size but when I use the images from other pages in the slider it resizes them smaller. Is this a padding thing with the link wrapping? Can I modify any of these settings?

Cheers,

Kris

webdesignpeople

Hi

It’s difficult to know off-hand. Can you send me a note via the contact form on our TF homepage (http://themeforest.net/user/webdesignpeople) with links to sample pages so I can take a look?

thanks Anthony

Default-user

Thanks Anthony, but I’m still stuck.

Here is my page http://www.deliriousdesign.com/design11/latest-news/

The sidebar is showing but not the images or post info – author, date etc.

They appear when I click on a post but not on my initial page that lists the posts.

Regards,

Kris

I’m having a problem with my sidelined site loading all pages really slowly—especially in Firefox. Has anyone brought this up before? is there something I can do to reduce the load time?

webdesignpeople

Hi

No, I’ve not had any feedback about load time. The theme itself doesn’t have a great page weight, but be sure to configure your server so it’s serving all content with compression, and use a plugin like W3 Total Cache.

If it’s particularly bad in Firefox it’s probably an add-on causing the issue. If you have Firebug running, be aware it will severly impact the javascript performance.

Hi there, Love the theme. I have an issue I can’t seem to find the answer to:

So I have created a basic POST with 2 columns (grid_8 and grid_4): 1. When the post is pulled into my front page blog there is a large blank space between the title and the content. (Weirdly this does not happen when I pull the post into a custom category blog page I created).

2. Also, on the post’s own singlepost page itself, the solid line that normally shows up under the content (separating it from the comments) shows up above the content instead.

Any ideas how i can work this out? I’d really love to have some blog posts appear to have their own “sidebars” when clicked on, so using columns would be great.

Hope this makes sense, and thanks… murraydrive

Hi

Can you please send me a quick email via our contact form here: http://themeforest.net/user/webdesignpeople

Please include a website link so I can see an example.

just bought and tried to install

but keep getting the following?

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_OBJECT_OPERATOR in /home/christi0/public_html/new/wp-content/themes/sidelined/includes/shortcodes.php on line 152

any ideas of what that is?

thanks

juzz

webdesignpeople

Hi

I think you’ve got this sorted now but for anyone else getting this error you need to make sure your server is running PHP5 – it’s version 4 that will give this error.

cheers Anthony

Hi Anthony,

I am trying to reproduce the look of the blog with sidebar on your example http://www.webdesignpeople.net/tf/wp-sidelined/category/premium-theme-features/blog-with-sidebar/.

I’ve used the shortcode [showposts type=”first” number=”4” grid=”grid_8” singlepostgrid=”grid_8” category=”blog”] but it’s not looking like yours, it it just listing the posts titles and content (no date, author or image).

Here is my page http://www.deliriousdesign.com/design11/latest-news/

What am I doing wrong?

Regards,

Kris

webdesignpeople

Hello

Sorry Kris, I somehow missed your comment.

You can reproduce the blog with sidebar example by using this option: “Force sidebar on/off across all blog content?” in Sidelined Options. Have a look in the theme documentation for some examples of how to switch between full page and page with sidebar options.

Hi

I think you are using a page + shortcode combination rather than setting your blog page in the Wordpress reading settings.

Can you email me via the contact form on http://themeforest.net/user/webdesignpeople with your login details so I can help better?

cheers Anthony

Hey Anthony, Thanks for this wonderful theme. I found it relatively easy to customize the theme to my design and build around it and I’m super glad I bought this. http://www.devilsgarage.com

I had a question: I would like to introduce twitter feeds as shortcodes in different pages/posts.

Can you please tell me if this is possible?

Thanks

http://i.imgur.com/zSzFX.png

webdesignpeople

Hi

The theme itself doesn’t offer this, but there are loads of Twitter plugins that do enable this.

Here are a few examples: http://xavisys.com/wordpress-plugins/wordpress-twitter-widget/ http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/twitter-hash-tag-shortcode/

cheers Anthony

Thanks for the quick reply!

the Xavisys plugin works very well and has a very flexible shortcode.

Much appreciate it.

Hi Anthony

two questions here with regards to this theme:

1. Is there an option for me to control the speed of the slide show? 2. I wanted to make a gallery image private, that would only show up if one is logged in (Subscriber, Editor, Contributor, Admin). I know that if one go to the gallery image and under the publishing options, change it to ‘private’ it completely removes that image from that gallery type and does not appear even if a user is logged in. If there a work around to achieve that?

and a question not related to tech, but from a design direction. What inspired you to come up with this design? Was there a development blog that you had maintained while you constructed this theme? Thanks for all you inputs

Cheers

webdesignpeople

Hello

Which slideshow type are you using (Nivo or Cycle)? The speed is set in sidelined/js/functions.js but the exact bit to change depends on which slider you’re using.

Regarding design, we just wanted to do something a bit different from the standard TF aesthetic, and part of that was creating a template that would work well left aligned. So many themes are center aligned with drop downs that we wanted to provide some other options in addition to what’s expected.

cheers Anthony

The time-delay I wanted to adjust was specific to Nivo.

So Im guessing there is no easy solution to making specific gallery images private and make them appear when when a user is logged in, rite?

later

webdesignpeople

Hello

Look at lines 79 and 80 in /js/functions.js:

animSpeed:500, pauseTime:2000,

Those values dictate animation and pause speeds for Nivo.

There must be a way to hide private posts but it’s not a 5 minute fix. I just looked into it and specifically setting the function to display published posts still brought back private posts when logged out. I can look into it further if you need this – send me an email if you do and I’ll quote for the work.

Hi – I’m considering purchasing Sidelined for a new WordPress site but I need to know more about the vertical menu option. Does the vertical menu have fly-outs? Do you have a demo of a vertical menu I can look at? Thanks! Scott

webdesignpeople

Hi digitalheights

You can see a demo of the left-aligned site + vertical menu option here: http://webdesignpeople.net/tf/wp-sidelined-left/

cheers Anthony

hi,

i’m considering buying this theme. can i choose my own background image?

thanks.

webdesignpeople

Hi

Yes you can, it supports the standard Wordpress 3 background image changer.

cheers Anthony

hey

I know that you already made the suggestion to use another contact form with advanced features instead of the simple one included in sidelined,

but,, just in case: is possible to get the valid e-mail people use to fill the contact form? there’s an archive or log in somewhere to read this kind of data

cheers

webdesignpeople

Hello

The contact form doesn’t hook up to a database – it validates the fields and sends the contents to your email address. So your email system is where the information will be stored.

cheers Anthony

Hello Anthony,

Very nice theme. I have a question for you. I am building a site that have a lot of images in several different galleries. Is there a way to set pagination for the galleries instead of putting 100 images on a page and making people scroll?

Thanks,

John

Hi dear people,

Have been greatly enjoying the theme, thanks!

Client noticed that when Javascript is disabled the Cufon won’t load and therefore much of the text on the homepage at http://citysessies.nl/fotografen doesn’t show. What can i do to change this?

Thank you!

Juuth

webdesignpeople

HEllo

Cufon requires javascript to function. You can, however, set a fallback font to display. Find this line in style.css:

p.promotext, h1 { position: relative; z-index: -1; }

change it to:

p.promotext, h1 { z-index: -1; }

this will make a browser default font show instead.

cheers Anthony
