Common WordPress Installation Issues

Missing style sheet error when installing the theme

A common issue that can occur with users new to installing WordPress themes is a “Broken theme and/or stylesheets missing” error message being displayed when trying to upload or activate the theme. This error message does not mean that the theme you have purchased is broken, it simply means it has been uploaded incorrectly. Luckily, there is a very easy fix.

Frequently Asked Questions

When I try to create a portfolio page showing only one portfolio category no portfolio items appear on the page.

This will happen when you have a portfolio category and a page or post with the same name. To prevent this from happening simply make sure you do not have a portfolio category and a page or post with the same name. You might need to delete the category and page and recreate them with different names if changing the name after they have been created does not fix the problem.

My website’s pages are not displaying in the admin area and their URLs lead to 404 error page.

Update to WordPress 3.1. Your pages have not been deleted and after updating to WordPress 3.1 everything will be back to normal.

How do I make it so the navigation bar is closed when the page first loads?

In navigation.php remove class=”collapse” from:
<a href="#" class="collapse" id="expand-button">Navigation</a>

In js/raw.js add $("#sidebar nav ul").hide(); below the “//Nav menu collapse” comment.

When I activate the theme I get a blank white screen or the following error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or ‘}’ in /home/content/s/h/i/shitwheelz/html/letsdesignhelp.org/wp-content/themes/sideways/raw_framework/raw_panel/raw_panel.php on line 213

The theme requires PHP5. This error will occur when your server is running PHP4. You should be able to update the PHP version on your server. To find out how to do this check your hosting account FAQ or contact your host’s customer support.

Why don’t descriptions of my portfolio items appear in IE7 and 8?

This is an intentional CSS difference implemented due to bugs in Internet Explorer. From experience I have seen that most users fill these boxes with content. Because the white box is smaller in Internet Explorer I made the decision to hide this text to prevent complaints about overflowing text, leaving the portfolio item’s title and the “More” link.

If you would like the descriptions to display on your website open ie7.css and remove the following.

#portfolio .info p{

    display: none;

}

When I use the [gallery] shortcode or the grid portfolio there are gaps between the images in the grid.

As stated in the documentation you must set the thumbnail size to 200×200px on the Settings > Media screen. You must regenerate your website thumbnails afterwards for the changes to take effect.
