I like the theme. I already had the site-template version, but I don’t feel like typing up HTML these days so I went ahead purchased this Wordpress version. Two points/suggestions:

1) It would be nice if you would use wp_mail() instead of mail() as the former respects things such as the SMTP plugin.

2) Is it possible to integrate the contact submissions with the page comment system so that it is saved to the DB and can be filtered for spam by Akismet?

Hey pembo13 – thanks for the purchases! The contact form on the wordpress version is really just a starting point, many people just use a standard page template and drop in their own 3rd party contact form plugins they may already use, I’d give that a shot, thanks!

A way to set the title/alt for the linked images in the footer would be nice.

Really want to buy this theme – but – want to make sure that it is compatible with Wordpress 2.9.

Please let me know.

Yes – all my live demos are running WP 2 .9+

Does anyone know how to remove the titles from the portfolio gallery page? I’m sure this is probably a simple fix, but I’m not quite sure where to look.

If you’re talking about removing the titles on the portfolio items, in page-portfolio.php, you can remove/hide line 18, starts with <p class="details">

Or, in the css, add:

UL.portfolio p.details { display:none; }

I created my blog page and the widgets are showing up just fine, but my blog posts don’t show until I click on an archive or a post link itself. How do I make my post show up when I click on my blog page?

Under settings > reading – try setting your blog page as the default posts page.

Yeah I tried that but It would just stay on the home page every time i would click on the blog page. Not sure whats going on with that.

Ok, I found the problem. Since I haven’t set up my portfolio page yet I didn’t check the settings on it. Under Portfolio category It was set to personal which that Is the blog post category. I switch the portfolio to uncategorized and now my post are showing up on my blog page :)

Good to hear – thanks for letting me know!

Has anyone got smart portfolio to work with Windows live writer? Live Writer can’t download the theme template. Something seems to be restricting it.

Live Writer error log:

WindowsLiveWriter,1.3616,None,00005,29-Jan-2010 11:27:20.016,”Failed to download template Framed: System.Exception: Unable to locate blog post elements using most recent post.

I just bought this theme but am disappointed that the WP theme does not include the smooth jquery slide like the HTML version does. How can I get the smooth slide to work with WP? http://sciresearchwriting.com/

The slidedown was just too jumpy in WordPress due to the larger page load times, sorry! You could probably add something such as the item below if using jQuery:

$(document).ready(function(){ $(".expanded").hide(); $(".expanded").slideDown("slow"); });

Can anyone tell me where I can find the error-message in the contact-form (“Please fill out name, email and a message”)? I need to translate it, but I can’t find it in the functions.php nor anywhere else. Thanks in advance!

It’s inserted with JavaScript in /js/general.js – thanks!

Thank you!

Hey There—I downloaded this theme today and have been enjoying plugging all of my information into it. At some point, however, the Smart Portfolio logo disappeared, and is now only showing a blue box with a question mark.

The discussion boards I’ve checked out indicate that it is most likely an operator error on my part. Which is probably true, as I am new at this. But I have absolutely no idea how to update or replace the lost logo. ‘Little help? Any thoughts?

Thanks for your help!

Hey Kate – send me a message via my profile page with your site URL and I’ll take a look, thanks!

Just tried to upload the zip file and install the theme and got this error message:

Warning: fopen(/home/michel23/public_html/wp-content/themes/Smart Portfolio Update 2/style.css) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/michel23/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3598

Warning: fread(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /home/michel23/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3601

Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /home/michel23/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3604

Also says the stylesheet is missing.

Help please :)

P.S. Never mind! Went into the PDF instructions to see that after upload, the Portfolio folder needs to be manually moved to the themes directory; all looks fine now. I’ve never had to do that before in uploading…learn something new every day!

Thanks for the update, glad it’s working!

I’m interested in purchasing the WP version of this theme but I’m curious about the portfolio. Does anyone know if it’s possible to use it for audio instead of pictures? Or possible even video? Sorry if this is a dumb question. I’m a newb.

Hello – The thumbnail images will have to remain images but you could have the link to the audio in the actual post. Thanks!

I’m having trouble getting the “blog” page to show my posts.

I’ve already followed the instruction on changing the “reading” settings to the name of the page you want your post to show up on – as well I made sure that Portfolio Category is set to “uncategorized”.

Am I missing something here?

The site is at http://www.joshstuart.ca and NPTech Feed is where the blog posts should be showing up.

Help! Thanks! josh

This has been fixed via email – for anyone else, please leave the “blog page” unset on the settings > reading page or it WordPress will revert to using index.php. Thanks!

Hi there, I love this theme but I’m a begineer so I have a silly question. Is there a way to get rid of the smart portfolio title and substitute it easily with a different title using the same fonts/colors? tx!

Hey there – you can enter a logo url in the custom settings page I have created or simply save over that image with your own in the theme files. A photoshop file is included if you want to quickly edit the text but keep the exact look/feel. Thanks

Hi many thanks for the reply. I’m sorry I’m such a beginner: can you walk me through the process a bit more specifically? What is the absolute simplest way I can change the text while keeping the exact look/feel? Many thanks and sorry for the trouble!

If you want to use the file I used to create it, you would open up the included photoshop file, edit the text, save it as logo.gif in the theme’s image folder. Thanks!

I’d like to show the title/permalink to the latest post on the Home page, but the Theme Settings do not allow you to use PHP in any of the Home Page Columns.

That’d be fine if there were an actual Home page to edit. I’d just make one of the columns include a call to the latest posts. I get it that this is meant to be a simple and minimalist theme, but is there any way to either use PHP in a column in Theme Settings, or to bypass one of the Home Page Columns and write something of my own?

You could grab the HTML that is output by a normal column and then replace one of the columns in functions.php:

if(get_option('home_column02_active')) { create_individual_column('2',$count); }

with your own HTML /PHP.

Hey there,

I love this template and have found it quite easy to customise considering I have no experience with CSS .

The only difficulty I’m having, is working out which CSS line I need to edit to make the font and heading sizes within a blog post, appear a bit larger. I just need to make it a bit bigger so that it’s easier to read.

Is there a way to do this without affecting the font size on the home page? I noticed when I changed the colour of the text, it changed both.

I hope this makes sense and you can point me in the right direction.

Love your work!

Wordpress 2.8 added a tag called body_class you can add to the body tag, see this post for more information and sample usage. http://www.nathanrice.net/blog/wordpress-2-8-and-the-body_class-function/ Thanks!
