Hello, Chris. Trying to purchase this theme via PayPal/Credit Card, but the link is not working. Any ideas why?

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

ThemeForest/Envato handle the sales/purchasing of items here. It may have been a temporary glitch, so always best to try again. Otherwise get in contact with Envato support to find out what’s going on.

Thanks

I think this is the best buddypress theme I’ve seen. I only found two minor bugs/glitches..

1) There is a graphical glitch under ‘Profile’ – ‘Settings’. The top portion of the tab that encloses ‘Settings’ is above the tab itself rather than acting as the top border of the tabbed box content.

2) The (profile picture) user gravatar cropping tool is out of whack. The image looks off when cropping and the preview of the image is graphically incorrect right after you initially upload an image.

Are you aware of these bugs/glitches? And if so, will they be corrected in an updated release? Anything you plan to change or include in an updated release?

Other than that this is solid!!! Thanks!!!

(By the way I’m using an up-to-date Chrome on windows 8 64bit.)

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

1) Thanks for letting me know about this, will get it on my bug list

2) Another customer reported this recently and it’s been fixed in the next version.

There are a few other fixes and enchantments coming in the next version which will be coming out late this week.

Glad you’re liking the theme :)

Thanks

Hello, your theme looks very nice, but since I will be using it as an LMS for the courses I teach, I need to ask whether or not it’s compatible with BuddyPress Courseware, ScholarPress, etc. before buying.

I’d also be curious to know if you know whether or not it works with CubePoints, Achievements, and the other BuddyPress plug-ins.

Finally, I was also interested in your KnowHow theme. Is any of that functionality available in your BP themes or perhaps as a plug-in of some sort?

Thanks in advance,

Talley Mulligan

ChrisMooney

Hey Talley ,

I’ve not tested the plugins you mention but there’s no reason why they wouldn’t work with Social Buddy.

In the future a KnowHow style plugin may appear, keep your eyes peeled :)

Thanks

Hello,

Is it also possible to make groups private/hidden? So only members who is invited to a group can see posts/forums inside the group?

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

This is a BuddyPress feature of groups. They can be set to public, private or hidden. Here’s the details for each:

A public group

-Any site member can join this group. -This group will be listed in the groups directory and in search results. -Group content and activity will be visible to any site member.

A private group

-Only users who request membership and are accepted can join the group. -This group will be listed in the groups directory and in search results. -Group content and activity will only be visible to members of the group.

A hidden group

-Only users who are invited can join the group. -This group will not be listed in the groups directory or search results. -Group content and activity will only be visible to members of the group.

Thanks

Hi,

I found another glitch.when you click on “View” on a statusupdate.

Example: http://themes.swishthemes.com/socialbuddy/activity/p/45/

ChrisMooney

Thanks for reporting this, will get it fixed for the next version.

Hi Chris, wow this looks great! I tested the ‘demo’ with desktop, ipad and iphone. On the iPad and iPhone, it doesn’t render well. The header is not full width, and text gets cut off (profiles, etc.). There also appears to be some threading issues with updates, posts, etc., in the iPad and iPhone view as well.

Are these already identified for a fix for the next update?

Also one more question, the iPad / tablet view makes it render almost just like a phone view….which does seem a little extreme since there is more viewing real-estate with a tablet. Can this be tweaked? For example check out the Viewport theme (http://themeforest.net/item/viewport-responsive-magazine-wordpress-theme/2465676/?ref=OrmanClark). It’s tablet view on landscape gives more of the ‘desktop’ feel, but if you do portrait it knows you have less real estate and gives more of a mobile view.

Thank you!

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

Many of the responsive issues have and are being resolved for the next release. Thanks for pointing out the errors, I’ll double check my list and my dev version to make sure they’re fixed.

Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply Chris! :) Will there be a new iPad/tablet ‘landscape’ responsive view so it doesn’t appear entirely ‘mobile’ unless it goes portrait? I like this theme…great job!

ChrisMooney

It’s quite a simple tweak, I’ll be looking at how I can best display the theme on different devices.

Thanks

Hi!

Thanks for a great theme, but I do have one problem. On the default homepage you can have a BUY button but since this is a buddy theme I have a register button but I would also like to have a logon button.

Is there anyway you can do this?

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

Easiest way would be to edit the template-home.php file and add in manually add the extra button. Look into using a Child Theme for customizations though.

Thanks

Two concerns:

The nested replies get sloppy on mobile, and the timestamp cuts into them. The spacing looks very awkward and difficult to read.

Second, and this is more of a plea than a concern, WHY are the profile pictures on activity sticking out of the box separater!? I really love how nice, neat, and aligned you have all of the profile pictures on every other aspect of the theme, but, and I mean this in the least offensive way possible, I can’t stand the pictures popping out of the top of these boxes! Aligning the pictures with the top of the posts and eliminating the boxes altogether would look pretty good, or using a filled in box to the left of each post with the profile picture centered directly inside of it rather than a large rectangle around every post. Anyways, I’ll keep tabs on this. Overall I do like it, I just may find it hard to purchase until it’s cleaned up a tiny bit. I can only imagine how hard it is to get every aspect of Buddypress responsive, so kudos to you regardless.

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

Thanks for pointing this out. I’ll take a close look into the problems you’ve mentioned and see what I can do for the next version.

Thanks

Hi Chris, also agreeing with dcburnquist’s observations. Also like to add that the iPad/tablet view looks a lot better! But the iphone/mobile view still has the issue with the ‘header’ (and body) not being 100% width, so there is this white space border on the right.

After purchasing this theme, the only other thing I might add is that on the tablet view the fonts (all of it, even the navigation) are really large, and tweaking the css seems to throw the theme off if I do that (although I’m not sure if I’m doing it right). I like how your knowledge base theme looks in tablet view…it’s very easy to read and right size. This one seems…large :) Also if the logo is too wide, the menu drops down (it seems). Not sure if somehow in a future update it can auto-detect that and just bring up a menu option instead.

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

I’ll take a look at the fonts and see what I can do to improve them on tablets. I’ll also see what I can do about the header width not being right in your other comment. If you could email me from my profile with a screenshot showing me the exact issue, that would be super and help me solve it quicker :)

Thanks

Hi Chris, nicely looking buddy Theme – well done! Before I purschase, wanted to ask you two things:

1)

a) Is it possible to have embedded-video in one of the slides in slide-show?

b) If this theme does not support this option, any advice how to use it with external plugins?

2) Can I set certain areas to appear/disappear depending whether user is logged or not logged-in (for example by adding class like “-function-is-user-logged-in” ?) is it easy to do?

3) I want let users create own mini-blogs without this huge Multi-site functionality. I read it can be easiest done by tweaking author.php file. Do you think it would be possible to implement if I hired a skilled WP freelancer to mess with this file?

Thanks a lot!

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

1) The slider doesn’t have video support. If you were to use a plugin, you’d need to replace the default slide built in.

2) This is a default feature of the theme but could be easily added with a plugin or customization.

3) Anything is possible with a skilled WP freelancer :)

Thanks

Hi everybody, This is a great template, very cool. But maybe could you help me for a problem with buddypress? My website gives me an ERROR 500 when I try to save buddypress wizard settings and when I get url from activation mail. How can I fix it?

Hi, I made some tests looking for solutions for ERROR 500. It seems that there’is a sort of incompatibility between bbpress and buddypress, because, in wordpress plugin page, they can’t stay active and sets together. If I disable one of theme I can set the other. Maybe I’m doing wrong something with your template? My url is http://www.robertogoveani.it/test/

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

BuddyPress and BBPress work well together (they’re even made to work together in some aspects). It sounds like you’ve got a namespace issue (two pages trying to use the same URL). Make sure in your BBPress settings you use a different namespace to your BuddyPress forum namespace.

Hi, thank you. I tried to reset and now it’s better. But I still have problems with error 500 again. Now forum it’s ok, users can register, log in it and leave replies, but this is only on my test area. Because, on customer domain, when I’m logged like user or admin I can’t go on admin area causes error 500. Maybe it’s domain problem?

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

Sounds like you’ve got a server/WP setup issue. Double check your installation and make sure your .htaccess file is correctly setup.

Good Day, Great theme you have here. I wanted to know are there unlimited color choices or are there just three as stated. And lastly is BBpress built in or has to be downloaded separately. Thx in advance!!!

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

You can choose the colors in the theme options (background, header, link and theme highlight color).

BBPress is a plugin that you install separately just like BuddyPress. This theme provides full integration for it though.

Thanks

Can I add a sidebar to the profile pages?

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

You can be either activating the global BuddyPress sidebar or by adding a new sidebar for only the profile page. The later requires editing the template.

I just wanted to say that I’ve been very happy with this theme.

I needed to make some major edits to my site to achieve the look I was wanting and all the other themes I tried were just horrible to try to base a child theme off of. Things would break, there would be javascript errors from the 30+ javascript files they were including, and slow load times due to all the other bloated crap they throw in there… Don’t get me started with the CSS files that are full of !important statements…

Not only does this theme keep it simple, but it works as you would expect it to, even when doing changes from a child theme.

It’s structured in such a way that you can easily move things around as needed and get the desired results.

Thank you!

ChrisMooney

I too am having a hard time figuring out how to add content to the sidebar of BuddyPress pages. Where is the option to “activate the global BuddyPress sidebar” mentioned above?

Found the problem.

In sidebar-buddypress.php it reads

get_post_meta(get_the_ID(), 'st_page_sidebar_position', true) == 'off'

it should read:

get_post_meta(get_the_ID(), 'st_page_sidebar_position', true) != 'off'

This is preventing the sidebar from showing.

Thanks for posting this, I’ll get it fixed now.

How can I setup a search box to search member profiles like a dating site has? Search by age, sex, and stuff. thanks

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

You’ll need to look into a plugin/customization that provides this functionality for BuddyPress.

Thanks
