Hi! I just purchased this theme and I love it! However, the mobile version of my website looks funny and the sidebar is misplaced (it should be at the right side of the blog when now it is at the bottom like a footer). Is there any way to deactivate the mobile version and always show the desktop version of the website for mobile devices?
Yes it is possible to deactivate the mobile version by deleting media-queries.css link from header.php. But the mobile version should display properly. If you can provide your website URL we can take a closer look.
It isn’t displaying properly probably because I manually changed the widths of the content column and the sidebar. It’s okay though because I don’t mind the desktop version on mobile. Thank you so much!
Hi
Are there step by step instructions for updating to the new version of the sociallike theme?
I have the older version with the icons to the left of each post and uses the woo tumblog plugin that you guys modified.
Are there any negatives to updating? I thought I read here once about needing to re-attach images? or something like that?
Are there specific reasons why its a good idea to update to the newer version?
Thanks
Kyle
Hi,
The new version is responsive and no longer requires WooTumblog plugin. But if you wish to upgrade, you will need to edit your existing posts to make them properly with the new version.
Hi.
What does it mean when you say its “responsive”?
In what way do posts need to be edited to work with the new version?
Do you have any instructions for upgrading? I downloaded the new version of the theme and did not see any mention of upgrade steps?
Thanks!
By responsive we mean that the theme adapts to different screen sizes (ie. mobile and tablet). If you resize your browser window you will see that the style will change to fit the screen size.
You need to install the new version like you installed the theme the very first time. If you don’t have problems with the version you have you don’t need to update to the latest version. If you wish to update you can check the new version help documentation to have an idea how the posts/pages are being created now.
Hi I have a problem with my media links. I pasted the link from youtube and it appears as a post but is not a link. Could you help me with that?
Hi,
Can you please provide your website URL so that we can take a closer look?
You need to enter embed code of video instead of URL.
Thanks, got it! What about the size, can I change the link so a whole window fro you tube does not appear?
YouTube video displays properly now. Are you still having any issues regarding this?
No, I’m fine thanks.
Also I have noticed that my side columns are much wider that in the preview. I would prefer them to be more narrow and my post to be wider. Is there anything you can do?
Thanks a lot!
Hi,
Can you please provide your website URL so that we can take a closer look?
We couldn’t see anything different than the demo version.
Is there a possibility to make the post area wider? I just think that the pictures seem a bit streched, do you also have that impression or is it just my screen?
The images doesn’t seem stretched. Please try checking with a different browser.
Unfortunately making the post area wider requires a huge customization and we don’t offer customization support.
I will try with a different browser then. Thank you for you assistance. Have a nice day!
Hello,
I just purchased this theme and activated. I didn’t want to delete all my old posts as I am not quite sure how I would save them so I am trying to figure things out without the dummy content. I have installed Woo Tumblog – though I am not quite sure what this does or how to work with it?!
Do I need to use the dummy content to understand the theme? Are you able to explain Woo Tumblog more and how this fits with the theme? Thanks!
I would like to land on the latest posts page as a ‘Home’ page, but at present this does not show the sidebar I have created, and I don’t know how to add this. I have tried creating a new page as a blog but it still didn’t work.
Also, on your live preview you have the ‘elsewhere’ widget on your sidebar – where can I get this? Is it a plug-in?
Thanks for your help
Hi,
Which version of the theme you have? If you are installing it new, please make sure you have the latest version, then you won’t have to install the WooTumblog plugin.
You don’t have to delete your existing posts to be able install the dummy content. But if you still don’t want to install the dummy content you can always find instructions on using the theme in the help documentation which is included in the “help” folder of the theme package.
hi – i have the latest version i think as I downloaded it here yesterday. I have read the documentation but can’t find this information.
this is my site: www.essenceofmyinstincts.com – if you could check I would be very grateful. Thanks
Hi,
We’ve just replied your email.
Hello,
Is there a way my blog readers can subscribe to comments on a post? Not sure where to find that option – thanks!
Hi,
An option for this is not available. But you may find a plugin for it.
Hi,
I can’t figure out how to get the gallery images in a post to not show on the main page?
I just want the featured image to show on the home page and then the gallery images to show once someone clicks into read more of the post. Also, the gallery images just seem to be displaying straight down the post, they don’t go 3 across the post etc.
Thanks!
Hi,
Gallery grid option for posts doesn’t exist. If you choose gallery post format your images will be displayed in a slider like in this example: http://themes.iki-bir.com/socialike2/2012/05/gallery-format/
Hi,
My images aren’t doing this… they just appear in a line below the post. Is there some sort of plug in I can use to make the images show in a grid? Also is there anywhere that describes the differences between the types of posts?
Thanks
To have a slider of images, you need to select the “gallery format”. You can find more information about post formats in the help documentation which is inside the help folder of the theme package. We haven’t used any gallery plugins so we cannot recommend one, but if you search for “gallery grid” in http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ you should find many plugins.
When I create an Image post, the image aligns left, even though when I uploaded it, I set it to align to the center. How do I fix this?
Also I’m reading the help documentation and regarding my gallery not working it says “Images in the gallery slider are generated using TimThumb. If you receive an error for the automatically generated images or if they are not being generated at all, please check folder permissions of cache folder in functions/img_resize are set to 777” but I can’t find anywhere in my dashboard where it says anything about folder permissions or a cache folder. Where do I find this?
Thanks
You will need to change the folder permissions through FTP.
Can you please provide a link of the image issue so we can take a closer look?
I think I changed the permissions through FTP.
This is the post: http://briiilliant.com/review-lancome-hypnose-mascara-in-no-01-noir/
Thanks.
Hi,
Just checked the images and they returned an error: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 17280 bytes) in /home/content/38/10087038/html/wp-content/themes/socialike/functions/img_resize/resize.php on line 1032
You are using up all of the php memory which means the images you are resizing are too large. Try scaling the images down before uploading them to the post.
Also please make sure you don’t click the insert into post button after the upload, only uploading images is enough, just close the dialog box after. There shouldn’t be any images in the WYSIWYG editor, you can delete them.
Just uploaded this theme on my blog. I am new to Wordpress so might have missed the obvious. I have the following queries for now:- a) How do I activate the Elsewhere (Social) box? b) How do I activate the social icons on each blog post.
Hi,
Did you check the help documentation?
Where can I find the help documentation? Is it specific for this theme?
Ok, found it in the folder. My bad. Let me check it out.
I uploaded another plugin for social media box widget. Couldn’t make the original one work. Still haven’t figured out to make social share work. Just FB Like is being displayed. Any idea why? www.myradigital.com
You seem to successfully added Google+ button too. Are you still having problems? If so please give us permission to your wordpress admin so we can take a closer look. You can send the credentials to us via the contact form on our profile page.
Hey! I don’t know why when I post video, the title of the post is at the bottow. Also I have trief to change the size of my video boxes but is seems not to work. I would prefer the videos to be a one or two lines wide… Here is the post http://followtherabbit.pl/
Thanks!
Hi,
That is because the layout of video post format is this. First the video, then the title as you can see in the demo too: http://themes.iki-bir.com/socialike2/2012/05/fringilla-inceptos-sollicitudin/ Also since the theme is responsive the videos are embedded with 100% width to fill the post box.
If you use the “Standard” post format, and paste the embed code of the video in the post editor, the title will be on top and you can display it with the width you wish.

Hey.
I have recently bought this theme. On the live preview you use images that fills all the width of the post area (http://themes.iki-bir.com/?theme=socialike-wp e.g. the “a wonderful serenity” post). I have read that it’s because of a tumblog plugin, I have installed the tumblog plugin, but I can’t seem to get it working correctly! Every where I read about it, you refer to “the instructions” where do I find them?
I can see that I can post with tumblog, but when I do, the image wont show on my side?
You don’t need to install any tumblog plugin. For theme instructions please see the help folder that is included in the theme package.
Okay, now I found the help document, but the screenshots I see in help, is from an older version of wordpress, so they don’t realy help me? The only possibility I have after uploading an image is to insert into post?
I found out now I have to choose the Featured image.. I’m working on the danish version of wordpress, so I was confused because of the translation..
in help it says that “Images in the gallery slider are generated using TimThumb.” What is TimThumb? And where do I get it?
You don’t need to do anything. It is already included in the theme. The thumbnails will be generated automatically.
But in help when creating a gallery I’m told not to press insert into post, but what am I supposed to do then?
Only uploading images is enough, after the upload is finished just close the dialog box and publish the post/page.
Hey there, I purchased your template in Mai 2011, now I wanted to make an update but I cannot find your Template in my Download Section anymore? I am kind of lost here. Do I have to buy it again???
You seem not to have logged into Themeforest with the account you purchased the item. You don’t have a purchased badge on your comment. If you login with the right account you will be able to see the theme in the Downloads section.
Ok, thank you!
Hello Elemis,
I bought your theme last week, love it, but i have a hard time making a child theme for it. I tried adding the options.php & a functions.php. But every time i activate the child theme, i just get a blank screen. Wondering if the theme won’t allow a child theme? Looking forward to your reply. Thanks in advance.
Hi,
If you can send us an email via the contact form on our profile page we can send you the updated functions.php file to make the child theme work.
thank you for your swift reply, i will email you through the contact form.
Hi
Question 1
I am testing upgrading to the newest version and I have a question concerning adding the images back in.
I assume that you mean that if I was using the woo tumblog plugin before and am not now because the updated version of the theme does not require it – then how do you add back in the images that were added in the previous version using the woo tumblog?
Specifically – in old version of the theme I added an image by going to “Tumblog Custom Settings” – used “Choose File” to select an image to add – then selected “Save.” This resulted in the image selected perfectly filling the box at the top of the post.
How do I add the images back in that were added via this method?
If I enable the woo tumblog that was included with the previous version of sociallike theme and try to add an image the same way no image displays in the post.
If I disable the woo tumblog plugin which I assume we should since its no longer needed – I do not understand how I am to add the images so they perfectly fit at the top of the post? Confused?
With Woo Tumblog disabled there is no section for adding images as there was before?
Question 2
I assume its OK to rename the folder that Sociallike is in to Sociallike2 when installing the theme so I can switch back to the old one in case I have issues with updating to the new version?
I am currently testing this on a server running locally so at this time I cannot give you admin to the site.
Thanks in advance!
Hi,
1. You can find instructions on using the theme in the help documentation inside the help folder the theme package. Usage of all post formats is explained. You will no longer need Woo Tumblog plugin, you can deactivate it.
2. It is okay to rename the theme as you wish.
Hi,
I updated to the last version of the template and now I have : Avertissement : Missing required field “updated”. Avertissement : Missing required hCard “author”.
with richsnippet, do you have a solution
Hi,
Please open functions/socialike-functions.php and search for:
it is on line 228. And change it as:
Hi
I have checked the instructions and they do not match what you see in wordpress. Perhaps your help file is for a previous version?
I click Posts – Add new
Click the add media Button
Upload Files – Select Files – Select a File and Open
At this point I do not get the image you base your steps 1 through 5 on in the help file supplied.
Your help file shows Step 4 as selecting “Use Featured Image”
There is no “Use Featured Image” setting available until after selecting Insert into post. Under Attachment Display settings I can select Full-Size and the image displays as full size at the top of the post before. However, If I do this and then select “Set Featured image” after inserting the image into the post I end up with the same image inserted into the post twice.
So the question remains: What is the proper way to re-add images to a site that is being chnaged from the old version of Socialike to the new version of Sociallike?
A.
Start at media – Add New – Upload New Media. Posts – All Posts – Select Edit on the Post to edit. “Set Featured Image” – Select the image you added directly to the media library – add tags. Set Format to Image – and update.
B.
Or is this the correct way: Posts – All Posts – Select the post you want to edit. Click Add Media – Upload Files – Select File – Open. Make sure Attachment Display Settings are set to Full Size. Insert in Post. Update.
C.
The results of using Method A or B seem to visually look the same. Is there a difference? The way the page gets constructed? Any difference for search engines?
I have asked several times what one needs to do to update from the previous version of the theme and I am confused you have not yet provided this information?
There is no section in your help file on upgrading.
For example, you say that woo tumblog is no longer required. If you are updating I have found that it is required at first. If you do not keep it active when updating you will not have access to the embed code for videos, you will not know what image file you need to upload since if you added the image through woo tumblog its not in the media library and you may need woo tumblog installed to know what image to re-upload. From my testing it looks like its ok to keep it active as you are re-importing the old post data into the new theme format.
Thanks! Look forward to your reply.
Hi,
The help documentation was prepared with an older version of Wordpress. But all things you see in the help documentation are still available in the new version, just different places. After uploading your image if you click on it, it gets selected and you will see “Set Featured Image” on the left side: http://cl.ly/image/0a3t0C1O3536 You don’t need to click on “insert into post” button.
