Good job Brian!! People here should learn from you how to do dropdown animations, they are “PERFECT” ;) Good luck with sales!

IndustrialThemes

Thanks a lot! Yeah, I spend a lot of time specifically on those animations. They had to be perfect. I’m glad you noticed!

FRESHFACE

I am a perfection-hunter, so hell yeah I’ve noticed ;)

I’m really loving this template, and I’m almost ready to buy…

Just one little thing.

Can you do a layout which features a bottom layout including social media buttons (specifically, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and possibly Squidoo, which seems to be getting really popular).

I know I’m not the only one who has clients who now want easy links to their social media sites, but I don’t always want to pull all of the SM info onto the page, either.

I love these layouts, but for some pages I just want the SM buttons displayed.

Any chance that this might be in the works?

Great theme!

Will this be compatible with WP 3 ?

Can it work without flash? I need it to be compatible with iPhone/iPad.

IndustrialThemes

Yes it is compatible with Wordpres 3. I have already tested it with Wordpress 3 beta 2 and it works great.

It actually doesn’t have any flash – it uses jQuery (javascript) sliders instead of flash. Anything else I can answer for you?

Hi,

Thanks for the quick response.

Some more questions in this case:

1. Is there any way to incorporate categories on the top like pages? 2. Can the slider display posts from a selected category and have blog posts below it ( eg. something like this site: http://www.MakoweABC.pl )? 3. Can the main page be set as the blog?

Regards

IndustrialThemes

1) Yes, all you need to do is change one line of code in the header.php to list categories instead of pages. I can show you how – it’s very simple.

2) The slider currently displays posts with a tag of “featured”. You would need to change the line that calls these to grab a category instead of a tag (again, a very simple one-line change which I can help you with).

3) What do you mean set the main page as a blog? Do you mean have the blog page come up as the first page instead of another one of your pages?

Re 1 & 2 – thanks.

Re 3: Exactly, I have a personal blog which is just a list of posts (excerpts) and that is exactly what I need.

I’ll be waiting for my next chance to use this theme – its looking really good. Hopefully soon after WP goes 3.0. :)

IndustrialThemes

Cool – you can simply change the setting in your Wordpress back-end that specifies which page shows up as the homepage. Just set it to “latest posts” and voila!

I’m not able to find in your documnetation how to associate a post with a template or how to cause certain templates to be used. I must be missing something

IndustrialThemes

The templates are for pages, not posts. When you are creating/editing a page, you can select the template you want in the right-hand column.

All posts will display in the blog template (if you have trouble setting up your Wordpress to show blogs on a separate page from the homepage, let me know). There are two exceptions: 1) any post with a category of Portfolio (or any subcategories of Portfolio) will display both in the blog AND on a page with a portfolio template. And 2) any post tagged “featured” will display in the blog AND in the featured slider.

I am planning to write an FAQ as soon as I get a chance, but due to your question I think I’ll updated the documentation that comes with Socket to maybe clarify this a bit better.

Please let me know of any further clarification/questions you have.

Thanks, Brian

Ah,

My site is almost all posts; in the old theme the menu structure and layout determined by categories and shortcodes. Yours is based on Pages. hmm; I will have to think about this. Will require must more restructuring than I thought

IndustrialThemes

Well, I guess there are several options. You can restructure your site content, or you could figure out a way to use the several different Portfolio template pages to display posts from different categories. This would take a minor modification to a line of code on each of the portfolio template files as you would be hard-coding the category name in, but it wouldn’t be that much work. Of course, you would be limited to the 6 different portfolio templates instead of all 30+ templates.

Does that make any sense or is it flying over your head?

I setup a couple Pages to test and they do list my existing Portfolio pages but the Image doesnt show. In my existing blog each portfolio post has an images in it’s gallery which shows up as the thumbnail. Your theme must be looking for the image eslewhere. Instead of me guessing how the theme works; do you have additional documentation somewhere?

Generallly I have always used Posts for containers where the info changes a lot and pages for containers where the info is more static. Your design is a little different from that; which isnt bad; just different. It would help to have better documentation.

IndustrialThemes

That is good and helpful information which I was unaware of. I have already updated the documentation once earlier today, but I will probably add some more info and update it again. I will probably use the FAQ section of ThemeForest to answer some of these questions since that’s a little more to the point with troubleshooting.

In Wordpress version 2.9 they introduced a featured called “post thumbnail” (will transition to “featured image” with version 3 I believe) and that is where you store the portfolio image (as well as every other image in Socket). You are correct – I need to document this more clearly, which I will do. In the meantime, now you know where to store the image.

You said in your setup you have an image in the gallery for the thumbnail… how does the theme know which image to grab for the thumbnail? Is it named a certain way? In order to use your current images in the Socket theme, just go to the post in edit mode, open up the gallery, find the image that you already were using for the thumbnail, and click “use as thumbnail”. That way you don’t have to re-upload any images.

Thanks so much for this wonderful theme!

I’m having one small problem (and it’s very possibly user error – I really should stop playing with this stuff so late at night). For some reason nothing will show up in the bottom panels. The twitter information is correct and it works in the more section just fine, but for the bottom nothing on any of the templates. Any ideas what I may have done wrong?

IndustrialThemes

Socket can only display one unique Twitter and one unique Flickr panel on the page because of the way the jQuery plugins work. So, if you are showing Twitter and Flickr in the more panel, and then you select them for the lower panels too, they will not show up down there (since they show up in the more panel first). I am adding this to the FAQ as we speak…

Does that help at all?

Default-user

That makes perfect sense :). Especially now that it’s not two in the morning. Thanks so much for the quick reply!

One of the best WP themes (I just love the Aluminum skin!) Great work and definitely my next purchase…

1 question: Do you provide language files (.mo) with the theme?

1 hint: On the blog post with all the standard elements the text block touches the left aligned image, you should provide more spacing.

Other than that, this theme is close to perfect!

IndustrialThemes

Oh you’re right, I will update that with a little padding.

I actually don’t have any language files provided – I have never done a language file. I will look into that for my next theme.

Any other questions, let me know.

Thanks, Brian

Great theme, had to get it when I saw it. Brian, where will you be providing the free upgrades for those who have already bought the Socket Theme?

IndustrialThemes

The new files are now live. You will need to re-download the files from ThemeForest and the updates will be included.

Definitely a wonderful theme!

I would ask the same as Th30d0r3: .mo file would really be a plus for me to be able to localize your theme easily!

Going further I think that proposing a theme that can be displayed in two or more languages dynamically would be worthwhile (specifically for the corporate themes …) !

Thanks.

IndustrialThemes

Well, now that’s two requests. Maybe I’ll update Socket with some language files. Stay tuned…

I just installed this awesome theme, however the comments section isn’t displaying correctly. On my blog page, it says “1 Comment” instead of the number of comments. If you look at this page, you will see what I mean: http://kreativenterprises.com/blog/

I am also interested in integrating this them with Disqus, and it looks great for every browser but IE8 . Do you have any ideas why it would display DisQus comments in this funny manner?

Thanks in advance for your help.

IndustrialThemes

Try disabling your comments plugins and see if the blog page still says “1 Comment” instead of “1”. I want to see if the comments plugin is hijacking that piece of code…

As for Disqus not working correctly in IE, I’m not 100% sure why this is happening. I don’t know exactly how Disqus works since I haven’t looked at the code. Have you tried the Disqus plugin with another theme in IE8 to see if it works there?

Default-user
sgupta3 Purchased

I am using the Disqus commenting system on another site with a different theme and it works perfectly in IE8 . After disabling the commenting system, all issues were resolved. I have the system disabled for now, but if the theme could be updated to work with Disqus, that would be awesome.

IndustrialThemes

I installed Disqus on a test Socket install and I was able to replicate your issue. I then switched back to the default theme and it worked fine in IE8 . I’m looking into the problem now…

IndustrialThemes

Holy cow, I finally figured this out. In IE, you can’t have more than 31 stylesheets on the page. Socket uses all 31 (coincidentally), and the disqus stylesheet was not able to be included. A quick, free fix is to start deleting stylesheets that you are not using in your theme from the header.php file since you are probably not using every single page template in your website. For instance, if you don’t have any pages that use the template-v page template, you can delete the line of HTML that pulls in that stylesheet (would be line #89 in that case). Do this a few times and refresh your page each time until the Disqus shows up correctly.

IndustrialThemes

Actually, disregard that last comment. There is actually a better fix than this where you won’t have to sacrifice any page templates. You just need to combine all of your “template-[x].css” stylesheets into one stylesheet and then modify your header.php so it pulls in just the one stylesheet. Need help doing it? I can send you the modified files if you shoot me an email: brianmcculloh@gmail.com

Default-user
sgupta3 Purchased

I just ripped out a few of the unused stylesheets. Maybe in the next release you could combine all of the stylesheets into one, this would help speed up page loads as well since its only 1 file to download instead of 31 files.

Regarding the word “comments” displaying in the blog postings page, you can adjust those settings in the Disqus online settings pages. Go to Settings—> Appearance, then update the Comment Count Link setting to say:

Zero Comments: 0 One Comment: 1 Multiple comments: {num}

Thanks for your help, everything is looking spiffy now: http://kreativenterprises.com/blog/

IndustrialThemes

I actually have since combined them all into a single stylesheet in an update to Socket, so great advice. And it’s good to know how to change the Disqus settings – thanks for following up.

Good job, sir!
