Socket Theme rocks! I have a question regarding the portfolio….

I have configured everything within my portfolio to function beautifully… but I noticed in the Socket theme preview via themeforest.net; when you click on the images in the portfolio… the image loads in a browser window in the upper right hand corner. How can you get the portfolio image when clicked to open in the lightbox version?

Can you send your URL so I can take a look at something?

Hi Brian,

The most exciting theme around, thank you for all the hard work. I followed the instructions per:

goofenhoffsays

//CHANGE THE SLIDER FROM POSTS TO PAGES //

Ok, so for those of you who would like to use Pages rather than Posts with the “featured” tag, here’s your solution:

Open piecemakerXML.php and replace line #37 which currently looks like this:

‘tag’ => ‘featured’,

And replace it with this:

‘post_type’ => ‘page’, ‘post__in’ => array(19,21),

Inside the array, enter a comma separated list of page ID’s that you wish to display.

Hope that helps somebody… took me about an hour of trial and error (because I’m no php guru) to figure it out.

But no reaction on the slider. It is jquery to show 4 pages with Template-H.

Also, with H2 headers in the page it will not break into two columns.

Thanks!

Rhonda

Where is the page that you are experiencing these problems at?

WizNerd Purchased

Sorry, Brian, I changed the theme back to a ‘more’ for the moment so it will not look ugly. Changed it back so now you can see. It is the landing page called “A Computer Wiz-Nerd”.

IndustrialThemes

Try to disable all plugins and see if the problem is fixed.

WizNerd Purchased

Done. No change.

IndustrialThemes

I’ll need to take a look at your installation then. You can send your URL and login info to brianmcculloh@gmail.com

IndustrialThemes

Your <h2 /> headings were aligned left for some reason. You have to be careful with how you style them since the code is looking for them so it knows where to create the columns. Any styling done to them could potentially screw up the function. You should un-set the left alignment on the headings.

Also, I don’t see any posts tagged “featured”. That would be why there is nothing showing up in the slider…

WizNerd Purchased

I see that. Fixed. Thank you! Sorry I did not check the html coding, just going with visual.

On the slider I was trying to use pages as goofenhoff did instead of post by changing the code on line 37 of piecemakerXML.php.

Do you have an estimate of the cost for you to change it to show pages instead of post and having a 2×3 with a side bar?

Thank you.

IndustrialThemes

Sorry about that, I wasn’t thinking correctly. I did notice one thing – you had jquery selected for the slider type instead of flash in the socket options page. I changed it to flash and tried it but I still didn’t see anything in the slider. Do you have the page IDs setup that you want to rotate as specified in the instructions in the first comment you posted to me?

WizNerd Purchased

Brian, yea, I tried both the jquery and flash. No bueno. Yes, I put the correct page numbers in the code to reflect the 4 pages and put a feature picture in each page.

WizNerd Purchased

Meant to add…. That is why I was considering hiring you to make it show pages and to do a 2×3 layout with a sidebar. Just little wishes.

IndustrialThemes

Yeah I just wanted to make sure you had tried everything before you paid me to do it. I charge $50 per hour and I accept paypal. I’ll get back with you tomorrow with a time estimate for completing both tasks.

Hi Brian, firstly great theme, very happy with it. I had a question about the portfolio page (which I am actually using for products). The category at the top of the page is great but as I have a large number of products, there are also sub categories which I cannot get to show up (it will only show the top level, not sub categories). So is there any way to get sub categories to be displayed, ideally in a drop down but even if it is shown once the main category is displayed it would be great. Thanks in advance

IndustrialThemes

Either way you want to go requires a bit of custom coding. The drop down method would take a little longer than the display on the page method. Is this something you want to hire me to do?

Bought the template Oct 22 2010. Got my WP installed in a subfolder. Cant’upload a new logo, because socket search paths still point to a root folder. Also the flash slide wont work – probably due to the same problem with the subfolder. Have had several templates connected to the site – plenty with uploaded logos etc – and everything worked out of the box. Nice template – loads of functions . but it seems it’s not 100% finished ?

Solved the logo issue by changing line 451 of theme-options.php to: $loc = get_bloginfo(‘wpurl’). ’/wp-content/socket_uploads/’; Still no luck with the flash slider…

IndustrialThemes

Sorry for the delay in responding to you. Open up the featured.php file and locate this code:

flashvars.imageSource = "<?php bloginfo('url'); ?>/";

Should be near line #21. Make a similar change to that code as you made to the logo code. Let me know if you can’t get it working.

Thanks, Brian

Found the code just before your message but no luck with the change. Post is tagged with “featured” and tried it on several browsers with flash 10 installed.

I just love the flash slider thats one big reason that I bought your template. Like your coding btw – well structured.

IndustrialThemes

Let me look into it further this weekend. The error is obviously because you are installing Wordpress in a subfolder as you have already pointed out, but that shouldn’t be a reason you can’t use the flash slider. I’ll keep you posted as to what I find out.

Solved it – The line should be: flashvars.imageSource = ”<?php bloginfo(‘wpurl’); ?>/wp-content/”;

Then everything works despite having the WP in a folder. I guess plenty of setups are made that way since you can protect WP a bit more.

Thanks for taking your time anyway.

Glad you figured it out – this info will help in the future – thanks!

Hey Brian,

Is there any way to only show bottom panels on the homepage and nowhere else? It seems like the All-On/All-Off needs some sort of work-around.

I’ve registered multiple sidebar blocks so I can rotate through multiple user testimonials for a client, which works perfectly when bottom panels are enabled, except that it adds bottom panels to other pages where I don’t want them.

Any suggestions on how I can work around this?

Thanks, G

IndustrialThemes

In this case you’d need to manually edit the theme files and comment out or delete the call to the bottom sidebar on all templates except the one for the homepage. Does that help?

goofenhoff

Yes Brian, that helps… I was hoping for a more graceful method, but that will do. Thanks for the quick reply!

Just wanted to let others know about my experience with Brian and his theme. Socket is great right out of the box but i needed some customization to suit my specific requirements. Got in contact with Brian and from our first email exchange all the way to completing the mods he has been perfect to work with. Very fast, efficient and reasonable!

Thanks! :)

Hi,

I am running WordPress 3.0.1 via an automatic install on GoDaddy and am unable to upload Socket.

Instead, I am receiving the following error, “Are you sure you want to do this? Please try again.”

Please help.

IndustrialThemes

Are you able to manually upload the theme via FTP ? That is the recommended way of installing Socket.

I did that and it worked – thanks.

Socket is awesome! It’s so flexible and solid! I the FAQ here answers all of my questions and I have not had any issues with the them or Brian. I get complements from most folks who visit. I have asked for a few customizations and Brian has quickly understood and executed my request. I have yet to meet an online “writer” like Brian. Thanks, Brian!

IndustrialThemes

Awesome – thanks for the kind words!!!

Hello Brian,

I really like this theme.

I have a question for you.

Is there a way to resize the slider and the slider section to make it smaller so that it doesn’t take so much room on the home page?

Thank you.

IndustrialThemes

Yes, there is a way, but it involves modifying the theme files directly (there is not a setting in Socket options page for this unfortunately). If you’re using the flash slider, you need to edit the width and height in the piecemakerXML.php file, as well as the height and width of the flash object on the featured.php file. You’ll have to play around with it since the flash slider has some nuances as far as how the height is affected. If you’re using the jquery slider, edit the height and width in the style.css near the bottom of the file – find the #anythingSlider style blocks (not #anythingSlider2).

dude i have a weird problem with the piecemaker slider

1. I already featured a post, and added the custom value: “image”“2010/12/test.jpg” 2. I fixd the featured.php to these variations:

a) flashvars.imageSource = ”<?php bloginfo(‘url’); ?>/”; - loading first image

b)flashvars.imageSource = ”<?php bloginfo(‘wpurl’); ?>/wp-content/uploads/”; (since i have the socket theme in a folder wp-content/themes/Socket/) .... loading first image

c) another variation of both and it says —“upgrade to flash 10” ... lol…

so heres the thing. I have the socket theme in a folder http://root/wp-content/themes/Socket/ I have the images in this one http://root/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/test.jpg can you tell me how to make it work please? thanks
