Hello there. Great theme. Does this theme work with WPML ? I need to have a Chinese and English version of my site. It seems to work on all pages except the homepage. I’m assuming this is due to the fact that the landing page pulls from other pages. Can you offer any assistance here?

Thank you in advance.

Hello incominginc,

Thank you for your comment. I believe the reason why the WPML plugin wouldn’t work as expected on the landing-page in its default configuration is because of the way this particular page gets the content from the selected WP posts. I didn’t try out this particular plugin but I can definitely try to help you, feel free to send me some credentials through the contact form on my profile page and I’ll take a look for you ;)

Best, Jonathan

Hello I spent hours researching and finally decided on buying your theme. Its simple and should do what I need.

I think I have a tough one for you. I’m trying to make it work with a plugin I purchased (Slider Pro). But the slider doesn’t work and doesn’t display correctly.

pic:[IMG]http://i50.tinypic.com/6nxmyp.jpg[/IMG] link: http://interactive23.com/test/

Any ideas? I read some another post that said I may not be inserting it in the right place? Also I’ve tried another slider (Easing Slider) and that displayed but images aren’t loading.

pic: [IMG]http://i48.tinypic.com/30wnvxl.jpg[/IMG] link: http://interactive23.com/test/#features

Other things I suspect: -Slider pro issue? -Using option tree 1.1.8.1 – I read the new 2.0 one may have issues with this theme. -Page doesnt scroll anymore when you click on links. Some broken code somewhere?

Thanks in Advance.

Hello!

Thanks for your comment. When I visit the URL you’ve provided, it looks like you got it working! :) Regarding the scrolling issue, I can see that there is a javascript error, I believe it comes from the following script: http://interactive23.com/test/wp-content/plugins/slider-pro/js/slider/jquery.advancedSlider.min.js This script declares the $ function which is already used by jQuery itself and therefor breaks all the calls to jQuery.

function $(){
You could eventually switch to the jQuery noConflict mode to solve this but it will require some code replacement in the different scripts used by Spark. Let me know! Best, Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

Yes the slider works but now the scrolling is broken. I sent you an email through your contact form about what we did to fix it. Did you get a chance to take a look at that? I’d hate to choose between the theme and the slider after purchasing both.

What would be easier to do? Alter the Spark scripts or the Slider Pro scripts?

Hello again,

How do i switch to the jQuery noConflict mode you are referring to? I’d like to be able to utilze the slider pro plugin with your theme.

Hi sdIGN,

Thank you for your comments/emails, and sorry for the delay! I’ve used the FTP credentials to edit the following file: “/wp-content/themes/spark-v1.3/js/main-r9.js”, in which I have replaced all occurrences of

$(

with
jQuery(
and the problem is now solved :)

Again for information, the main issue comes from the following file: http://interactive23.com/test/wp-content/plugins/slider-pro/js/slider/jquery.advancedSlider.min.js which overrides the jQuery $() function breaking all jQuery calls.

Anyway the smooth scrolling is now working again as expected. Feel free to let me know if you encounter any further conflicts with this particular slider plugin! Best Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

I tried to rebuild my wordpress site from scratch on my laptop (localhost) using this theme and the slider pro. I figured the best thing would be to copy that file you edited “main-r9.js” and replace it with my local copy but that didn’t work. The slider isn’t functioning.

Is there any other file you modified? Perhaps another setting somewhere?

Disregard. I traced back and figured it out. Thank you again!

For those of you also using Slider Pro with this theme you also need to comment out the following lines in the frontend-js.php file.

Hi Jonathan,

I would appreciate a response to the question I had posted a while ago asking if your theme is multilingual or not. I need to begin my project right away but I’m stuck waiting for a response first.

Hi cairns_nic,

Thank you for your comments and sorry for the delay, I have just replied to your previous comment:

The theme is mostly translation-ready but some parts are not like the Contact form labels which are still hard-coded unfortunately, this can be changed quite easily but will require some theme editing. I can guide you through the steps if you decide to move forward with it ;)

I hope that answers your question! Best, Jonathan

Hi, I have not had a reply to my first question yet. I have bought the theme now and really want to see if you can help me on this.

Whenever I do a manual menu and try to add a blog external page, it makes each of the once internal pages into their own page as well. How do I keep the main one-page design flowing as normal and have a blog link in the main header menu?

Please help!

Thanks, Will

Hello,

Thank you for your comment. Take a look at the PDF documentation provided, it explains how you should build the menu links. Internal links should be made using the Custom link box and need to start with a #hash (for the URL ), the other links to externals pages can be added using the regular tools.

Feel free to let me know if you need further assistance with this ;) Best, Jonathan

Hi Snappster,

Thanks for your comment, of course it’s no problem to add images or other type of media anywhere within the text. Each sections of the landing-page are simple WordPress posts, therefor the possibilities for the content are unlimited, you can use shortcodes, any kind of medias including pictures etc., text, lists, special formatting, etc.

I hope that answers your question! Feel free to let me know if you have any further questions ;) Best, Jonathan

Hi I have tried to follow the instruction PDF but it still doesn’t work. If you add anything as a manual menu, the theme stops being a one page scrolling website… is this right??

Can you show a template where there is another page in the header with it still being a scrolling one page website for the rest of the links? I really need to get this sorted, thanks for the help.

JoNa

Hi wdtw,

Thank you for your comment. You need to follow the instructions carefully: links to sections of the landing-page must start with a #hash (you can create those links using the “Custom Links” tool in the WP menu builder).

The appropriate #hash_value can be found in the Theme Options page under the Landing-page sections tab.

I hope that helps! Feel free to let me know if you need further guidance with the menu. You can also provide me with credentials to your WP admin and I’ll set up the menu for you ;) Best, Jonathan

Hi,

is there a way to have a youtube video in the slider?

JoNa
JoNa Author

Hello,

Thanks for your message. Yes it is absolutely possible, you must re-build the block containing the slider as well as the slider itself using shortcodes. Take a look at this previous comment for which I’ve created an example: http://www.maddim.com/demos/spark-wp/demo-video-instead-of-the-slider/

Now if you want to keep the slider moving but just replace the standard images with other kind of content (like videos) it’s also possible. Once you’ve created the slider using the available shortcodes then you can put whatever you want within each slide, including videos, images or even text.

Here is how you would go about it:
[row class="box dark"]
[column width=seven]
<div class="welcome-container">
<h1>Make it Yours</h1>
Designed with the latest technologies and most advanced techniques, this one-page website loads lightning-fast!

The layout focus on usability, it offers enterprise-level features, design quality, technical implementation, compatibility, accessibility and performance.

<a href="#features" class="animate button featured">Check Out The Features</a>
</div>
[/column]

[column width=nine]
[slides-container]
[slide]<img src="http://www.maddim.com/demos/spark-wp/wp-content/themes/spark-v1.3/images/slides/performance.jpg" alt="" />[/slide]
[slide][video]<iframe src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/1NiEUxhGacM" frameborder="0"></iframe>[/video][/slide]
[/slides-container]
[/column]
[/row]

In the last block of code you can identify the slider, the first slide is an image, the second slide contains a video. Add as many slides as you need.

Only make sure that when you copy/past the above code you are in the “HTML” mode of the editor when editing your “Home” page:

I hope that helps ;) Feel free to let me know if you encounter any difficulties setting this up! Best, Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

purchased your WP theme and love it! One issue I have: I want to get rid of the menu item linking to the first (#home) section of the landing page. I use the manual menu setting and add links to the other sections through the WP settings. When I do this however a click on the logo always sends me to the first section that’s linked in the menu (for example #features). I want the logo to send me #home when I click on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Val

JoNa
JoNa Author

Hi ,

Thanks for your comment. The logo is set to point to the first menu item, in order to change this behavior you will need to edit the following javascript file: /js/main-r9.js

Around line 75 you should find this code:
        // Make the logo points to the top section (or first menu item) if on landing-page
        $('.logo a').mousedown(function() {
            $('nav a:first').trigger('mousedown');
        // $('nav a[href=#contact]').trigger('mousedown'); // Use this instead if you want the logo to points somewhere else
        }).click(function(){
            return false;
        });

Simply comment the line with “nav a:first” and uncomment the line just after with “nav a[href=#contact]”, and replace “#contact” with whatever section you want the logo to point to, I guess it will be “#home”. The final code should be something like this:

        // Make the logo points to the top section (or first menu item) if on landing-page
        $('.logo a').mousedown(function() {
        //    $('nav a:first').trigger('mousedown');
            $('nav a[href=#home]').trigger('mousedown'); // Use this instead if you want the logo to points somewhere else
        }).click(function(){
            return false;
        });

If you have activated the “Speed” mode under the “Performance” tad in the Theme Options page, then don’t forget to hit the “Clear cache” button once you have edited the javascript file ;)

I hope that helps, let me know if it works as expected! Best, Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

thanks for your reply. I modified the javascript file as you suggested, but now the logo is apparently pointing nowhere – nothing happens when I click on it. (I cleaned both the server and the browser cache.) Also, when I open the page, the first item in the menu is highlighted, even though that’s not where I currently am. (Say, I’m landing in the #home section, but since that link is missing in the menu, the #features item in the menu is highlighted.) Suggestions?

Best, Valentin

JoNa
JoNa Author

Hmmm actually I have a better idea for this: forget about the javascript (you can restore the original code), and instead it would be much simpler to just hide the #home menu item using CSS instead of trying to do without it.

So set the menu mode back to “Auto” (or add a “Home” menu item if you want to stay on “Manual”), and then simply add the following CSS code to the “Custom CSS ” tab in the “Theme Options” page:

nav li:first-child a {
  display: none !important;
}

This code will hide the first menu item, while leaving it effective for the navigation system.

Let me know if that works the way you wanted ;) Best, Jonathan

Hi michel_w,

Thank you for your message. Each “section” of the landing-page is actually a simple WordPress post/page, so it has all the regular WordPress possibilities like formatting, shortcodes, third-party plugins, etc.

In the “Theme Options” page of the theme, you can select which WordPress post to show on the landing-page and in which order. Here is a screenshot of this part:

I hope that answers your concern! Please feel free to let me know if there’s anything else I can inform you about, I’d love to hear from you ;) Best, Jonathan

I’m having problems with the items on the menu going into 2 lines – I need at least 5 items. As per http://is.digitalshoreditch.com

is there a way to edit the size of the text on the menu so it doesn’t go onto 2 lines? I’m happy to edit the CSS if needed, just not sure which values I should be adjusting.

thanks

JoNa

Hi playgen,

Thanks for your comment. Yes I can see that your menu goes into 2 lines when seen on a mobile, of course we can reduce the margins between each menu item, but it won’t be enough, you will need to rename some of your menu titles.

I suggest you rename “The team” to “Team”, and “Contact us” to “Contact”. Then you can reduce the margins by adding the following CSS code into the Theme Options page under the Custom CSS tab:
@media only screen and (max-width: 767px) and (min-width: 480px) {
  nav li a,
  nav li a:visited,
  nav li a:focus {
    padding: 23px 7px 0 7px;
  }
}

I hope that solves your issue! Let me know otherwise ;) Best, Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

Well I bypassed the problem by going with a different plugin, then came across a different Javascript problem but fixed that as well. Seems the way you include WP’s jquery is different than what’s mentioned in the Codex, but hey I’m no developer.

Another question though. Because of the amount of fiddling, I’ve been trying to play around with the child theme in case of future updates. Files that are in the root child theme folder seem to override the master just fine, but when I add/modify a file in a subfolder, for instance the php/fronted-js.php it doesn’t seem to take precedence. Help much obliged!

Regards.

Hi skoopmans,

Thanks for your comment. The jQuery library is indeed included following the WP standards, however as WordPress isn’t exactly following the best practices for increased performances regarding script inclusion (see Yahoo Performance Rules, and Google Performance Best Practices), the Spark theme overrides some of the script inclusion functions in order to provide improved page load performance. This can be altered using the Child Theme by modifying line 23 of the Child Theme’s functions.php file:

Before:
wp_register_script('jquery', "http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.1/jquery.min.js", false, '1.7.1', true);
After:
wp_register_script('jquery', "http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.1/jquery.min.js", false, '1.7.1', false);
Note the last parameter which sets if the script should be included in the footer (see here: https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_register_script ).

Regarding your second question:
Unlike style.css, the functions.php of a child theme does not override its counterpart from the parent. Instead, it is loaded in addition to the parent’s functions.php. (Specifically, it is loaded right before the parent’s file.)
You can read more about it here: https://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes#Using_functions.php

In other words, if you want to override a specific PHP function, simply copy it to the Child Theme’s functions.php file and modify its content there.

I hope it is more clear for you now! And please do feel free to let me know if you need any further assistance with your customization ;) Best, Jonathan

Hey Jonathan,

Thanks for the reply. Indeed I get the jQuery inclusion and changed it to false and everything started cheering and smiling again.

And thanks for the clarification about the child theme and functions because it wasn’t that clear to me. As I said, I’m more of a tinkerer than a developer :) Besides, I enjoy (and understand) the design side of things more than code, but thanks to your template I’ve learned a whole lot more.

Can’t wait to see your next work, and once again much obliged for your support.

Hi Jonathan,

I sent you a PM about changing the name of the folder. I never got a response from you. How do I change the name of the theme folder without breaking the theme? Let me know.

JoNa
JoNa Author

Dear Patrick,

Thank you for your emails and really sorry for my late reply. The reason I put your email aside is because I wanted to try myself in order to understand why you cannot simply rename the theme folder, and I wanted to make sure that I have an answer for you before I reply. Again, sorry about that!

So, I have tried to simply rename the theme folder and there’s nothing specific to do beside heading back to the WordPress Admin and re-activating the theme under its new name.

One exception remains however, if you’re using the Child Theme, then you need to edit the “style.css” file of the Child Theme and change this line:
Template:       spark-v1.3
Replace “spark-v1.3” with the new name of the theme it is based on.

Also, if you are using the menu in “Manual” mode then go to Appearance > Menus, and re-select your custom menu for the two menu locations. Because WordPress associates this selection on a theme-basis, when you rename the theme’s folder it considers it as a new theme and therefor you need to re-associate your custom menu, if any.

I have tried and it works, please let me know if it works for you as well or if you encounter any issue ;) I hope that helps and again sorry for the delay in my reply, please do feel free to let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with, I’d love to hear from you! Best, Jonathan

I’m sorry but I need some “illuminating” advice on the following issues (my site is www.bevirtual.it):

1 – I wish I could change the background to my liking and not simply by alternating black and white. For example, I tried to make clear the background of ‘Virtual Reality’ section, with no success..

2 – How can I get the scroll effect by clicking on a internal link? I put as example a link on the word ‘Ricostruzione’ on Target section.

3 – The last section, ‘Contatti’, does not begin well as others, but has an edge at the top of the previous section.

4 – I want to change the label (Your Name, Your Email…) of the contact form. Which file should I edit?

Thanks

I’m struggling to find the CSS that controls the static heading; I’d like to eliminate the white line border and perhaps size it down to 960px. Is that do-able without breaking the integrity of it’s responsive design? Thanks in advance

JoNa
JoNa Author

Hi affordablewbguy,

Thanks for your question. Yes you can change this line to take only 960px wide but hmmmmm you’ll need to edit the HTML in order to do that, because altering it with CSS will also alter it everywhere it is used (for example in the pricing section within each column, etc.).

So what you need to do is to edit this file: “header.php” and look for the following code (which should be on line 211):

<?php echo do_shortcode('[separator]'); ?>

This shortcode adds the separator line you describe just bellow the top menu. The separator line uses all the width available therefor if you want it to be only 960px you simply need to move it into the container used for the menu itself.

Before:
                < /nav>
            < /div><!-- .container -->

            <?php echo do_shortcode('[separator]'); ?>
        < /header>
After:
                < /nav>
            <?php echo do_shortcode('[separator]'); ?>
            < /div><!-- .container -->

        < /header>

Let me know if you like the result ;) When I tried this, I didn’t like the scrollbar not being aligned with anything when both the header and the active section were sharing the same background color. I’d love to hear your thoughts about this. Best, Jonathan
