Hi Punkatess… thanks!

I did purchase it and when I installed the primary theme, my site when completely white… couldn’t even log into the back end. Had to FTP into the rear and remove the theme to get my wordpress install to respond. This is not good at ALL. :(

Hello kelleychambers,

Thanks for reporting your issue, could you provide me more details about your installation: do you have the latest version of WordPress? did you have the OptionTree plugin ever installed?

I’m currently in the process of releasing a big update and it should be available by the beginning of the week, hopefully that will solve any difficulty you are encountering, in case you didn’t figure out until then! Keep me posted! Sincerely, Jonathan

kelleychambers

Hi ya… I do have the latest version of Wordpress… 3.5.1 and it is a local install using MAMP. I’m going to try putting it on my dev server and see if that makes any difference. Will let you know!!

As for your questions, nope, I haven’t installed OptionTree on my local build… used it before as I think that’s what WooThemes uses (a modified version there of) with their themes.

Looking VERY forward to the big update!!! I’ve been drooling over thing for a few weeks now… had to wait until one of my clients paid me to bought it.

kelleychambers

Hey Jonathan,

I lied… though I did figure out what the problem was. I’m on bleeding edge nightlies on my local install… so, that appear to be the reason…. I’m about to install it on 3.5.1. Will update! ;)

Hey Jonathan,

Just purchased and installed.

First off what a nice theme. I have 2 questions 1. how do I embed a video into the sliders on the main page? I found the short codes but can’t get the video to adjust and fit with the correct dimensions the video is cut off at the top. 2. Why is my version wider than the demo version?? the page is wide enough to have a scroller from left to right at the bottom of the page? how can I adjust the width?

Thank you!

Hello waxthepax,

Thanks for your comment, could you share the link to your site so I can take a look at the issue? Horizontal scrollbar is not normal behavior! (Along with Woo Commerce stated in a previous post) I’m also thinking of using Ajax Translator Revolution Dropdown WP plugin, Social Coupon for WP and Font resizer plug in…do you know if these work well with your template? Or can you recommend replacements for me? Thanks.

Hello cairns_nic,

Thanks for your messages, and sorry for the delay, I haven’t looked at WooCommerce yet so I couldn’t say, but I believe that a proper integration with it would require some adjustments. I will try to take a look at it anytime soon and will report back.

Regarding the other plugins you mentioned, chances are that they will work just fine but I haven’t tested those specific ones myself so I could not guarantee that they’re fully compatible, even if they might be.

I hope that helps! Please feel free to let me know if there’s anything else I can assist you with ;) Best, Jonathan

kelleychambers

WOOT! :) One other thing… at least for now grin!!!, I need/want to make the blog page a totally different background color from the landing. What CSS selector do I use? When i inspect element, and change that color, it affects the landing, too.

kelleychambers

Jonathan, is this possible?

JoNa
JoNa Author

Hello kelleychambers,

Thanks for your question, I had a look at the blog page and it seems that you are correct as it’s not possible to target it with one class without affecting the landing-page as well, so I have added a couple of classes to help target different pages and it’ll be included in the update coming today or tomorrow! Thank you ;) Best, Jon

kelleychambers

Oh Jon, if you were here I’d KISS YA! :):):)

I just gave the theme five stars… even before the update. The author/developer is beyond stellar and I just know the update is going to be perfect! :) Jon, I SOOOOO look forward to more of your work!!! Cheers!

Jon, any word on that update? I’ve gotta push out this site update and was counting on having the theme’s own update before I did that… :(

JoNa

Hey kelleychambers,

Thanks for your messages, I’m sending it out today but we will have to wait until it is validated by the Envato team before it becomes available on ThemeForest… usually the validation process is quit fast but I wouldn’t expect it until tomorrow. Keep posted! ;) Best, Jon

JoNa

Hey there, the update is now available for download! Enjoy ;)

JoNa
JoNa Author

By the way now to target the landing-page using CSS, prepend your CSS rule with “.spark-landing-page”.

To target any Blog page (Post, Category, Archive, Search, etc.) prepend your custom CSS rule with “.spark-blog”, and lastly to target regular pages prepend your custom rule with “.spark-page”.

Here is an example:
.spark-blog .myCustomClass {
    color: black;
}

I hope that helps! Please feel free to let me know if there’s anything else I can assist you with ;) Best, Jonathan

kelleychambers

YOU ROCK THE CASBAH!!! Thanks Jonathan!!! :)

kelleychambers

One last thing and I’ll leave you alone (at least for today! ;-) – How do I move the ‘Blog’ position in the landing menu to the else where in the menu? I want to use the “landing-page” menu for the first page and then a secondary menu on the static pages but want control over the position of the ‘Blog’ placement.

JoNa
JoNa Author

Hey there, thanks for your comments! To do what you want to need to switch the Menu to “Manual” mode in order to have full control and be able to organize it as you wish.

You can assign different menus for the landing-page and for the other pages, and you can order the links however you want in the landing-page menu using the WordPress Menu Builder, please take a look at this video tutorial I made especially for configuring the menu: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7SFpyzYlZw

If any question remains do not hesitate to let me know ;) Best, Jonathan

JoNa
JoNa Author

Hello ggektor,

Thanks for your comment. Why don’t you make the entire slider clickable (you can set a link for each image in the Theme Options page)? you could eventually add a button into the image itself, or what about using the caption to put a link there?

Let me know if any of these ideas work for you, if not then I believe that it’s possible but will definitely require some CSS work to position the button accordingly. Sincerely, Jonathan

JoNa

Hello ggektor,

Thanks for your reply. So in order to remove the hover effect add this CSS rule to the “Custom CSS” tab in the Theme Options page:

.flexslider a img:hover {
  opacity: 1;
}

That should do it! Please feel free to let me know if I can assist you any further ;) Best, Jonathan

well, i did as you say and here is a screenshot: http://yadi.sk/d/dTS6amNf4GriZ but nothing changed, i still have hover effect on slider. And one more thing… Are you sure that this modification apply only to slider? Because i still need hover effect on buttons and other images…

JoNa
JoNa Author

Aaah I see the copy/past did not work properly, just remove the “‹pre›” before and “‹/pre›” after the rule and it should work!

I confirm that it only affects linked images in a slider, and does not affect the hover effect on other elements on the page ;)

Let me know if that fixes it! Best, Jon

Jonathan,

I purchased this, and am using the child theme you included. I have put a lot of custom css in the Custom CSS section of the Admin. However, the site will not read any of it. I have changed all of the following:

h1 h2 h3 h4 h5 h6 h7 h8 h9 h10 h11 h12

Yet none of them read the new font. Why is this functionality not working? This is crucial functionality. Sometimes one of the items will be the <h> tag from the Custom CSS, but 95% of the time it defaults to just the theme CSS and completely ignores the Custom CSS I have added to the Admin. We are launching the site Wednesday the 17th. Please let me know what needs to be changed so this works. Thank you.

JoNa
JoNa Author

Hello Tess,

Thank you for your message, I have received and replied to your email earlier today, please find a copy below:

Dear Tess,

Thank you for your message. I had a look at your site and I can see that there are some mistakes in the custom CSS. First there don’t seem to be rules for tags others than h1 and h2, all the remaining h3, h4, h5 and h6 don’t seem to have custom CSS rules assigned. Second I can see some incorrect rules, for example the following is incorrect:

blue-36 {
    font-size:36px;
    color: #152139;
    font-weight: bold;
}

There is no HTML tag named “blue-36”. Here are some tips:

The following will target all ‹h1› HTML elements:
h1 { }
The following will target all HTML elements with the CLASS “h1”, for example ‹p class=”h1”›:
.h1 { }
The following will target the HTML element that match the ID h1, for example ‹p id=”h1”›:
#h1 { }
Regarding the titles, the following is correct and seems to be effective on the page:
h1 {
    font-family:'Noto Sans', sans-serif;
    font-size: 32px;
    color: #ffffff;
    font-weight: bold;
}
h2 {
    font-size: 18px;
    color: #ffffff;
}
So you need to extend those rules to the other h elements. Here is how you would do it:
h1 {
    font-family:'Noto Sans', sans-serif;
    font-size: 32px;
    color: #ffffff;
    font-weight: bold;
}
h2 {
    font-family:'Noto Sans', sans-serif;
    font-size: 18px;
    color: #ffffff;
    font-weight: bold;
}
h3 {
    font-family:'Noto Sans', sans-serif;
    font-size: 16px;
    color: #ffffff;
    font-weight: bold;
}
/* etc... */

If you’re unhappy with the result you can eventually remove the text-shadow using the “text-shadow: none;” propriety, like this:

h1 {
    font-family:'Noto Sans', sans-serif;
    font-size: 32px;
    color: #ffffff;
    font-weight: bold;
    text-shadow: none;
}

By the way I can see that you’re using the WP Google Fonts plugin which also has a “Custom CSS” field, note that the one from the Theme Options page takes priority so any rules there will override those from the plugin.

I hope that helps, please feel free to let me know if there is anything else I can help you with ;) Best, Jonathan

Additionally if any of your custom rules doesn’t override properly a previous one, you can add the !important; keyword as a last resort to force override, here is an example:

h1 {
    font-family:'Noto Sans', sans-serif !important;
    font-size: 32px !important;
    color: #ffffff !important;
    font-weight: bold !important;
    text-shadow: none !important;
}

Again please feel free to let me know if you need any further help with this, you can also send me the exact styling wanted for your h tags and I will provide you with the correct code to put in the “Custom CSS” field in the Theme Options page.

Keep me posted, I look forward to your reply ;) Best, Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for the reply. I saw your email after I had posted this. So it seems that the problem I am having is that the Custom CSS disappears sometimes. I had created 11 different h tags last night, and then they just disappeared. Also in the text area of the Welcome Text Main Slider section in the Spark Admin tool keeps changing. For some reason it doesn’t always show the

tag I have in the code. I’ve saved it multiple times. Have you seen these problems before? My CSS is valid, for some reason the Spark Admin panel erased it. This is what it is:

h1, white-12 { font-family:’Noto Sans’, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; color: #ffffff; }

h2, white-16 { font-family:’Noto Sans’, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; color: #ffffff; }

h3, white-18 { font-family:’Noto Sans’, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; color: #ffffff; }

h4, white-24 { font-family:’Noto Sans’, sans-serif; font-size: 24px; color: #ffffff; }

h5, white-24-bold { font-family:’Noto Sans’, sans-serif; font-size: 24px; color: #ffffff; font-weight: bold; }

h6, white-32 { font-family:’Noto Sans’, sans-serif; font-size: 32px; color: #ffffff; font-weight: bold; }

h6, white-48{ font-family:’Noto Sans’, sans-serif; font-size:48px; color: #ffffff; }

h7, blue-18 { font-family:’Noto Sans’, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; color: #152139; }

h8, blue-24{ font-family:’Noto Sans’, sans-serif; font-size: 24px; color: #152139; }

h9, blue-24-bold { font-family:’Noto Sans’, sans-serif; font-size: 24px; color: #152139; font-weight: bold; }

h10, blue-24-italic { font-family:’Noto Sans’, sans-serif; font-size: 24px; color: #152139; font-style:italic; }

h11, blue-36 { font-family:’Noto Sans’, sans-serif; font-size:36px; color: #152139; font-weight: bold; }

h12, blue-48{ font-family:’Noto Sans’, sans-serif; font-size: 48px; color: #152139; }

And now the Footer has completely disappeared again. This has happened several times as well. I haven’t made any change to the Footer code or page since yesterday. It’s just not loading anymore. Do you know what is causing this? Thanks.

JoNa
JoNa Author

Dear Tess,

Thank you for the follow-up. Okay so now it looks like the Custom CSS you have posted in your last reply matches the one I can see on your site, this is coherent. Also, I have reloaded your site quit a few times and the Custom CSS always appear normally. You say that it disappears intermittently, this is definitely strange! but unfortunately I wasn’t able to reproduce that… Could you make sure that this is not related to your browser’s cache (by clearing the cache) or to any eventual third-party plugin installed or settings modification?

As I have noticed that you’re using the “WP Google Fonts” plugin, this is definitely something I would check for conflicts especially if using the “Custom CSS” fields from both the theme and the plugin at the same time, as CSS rules could override each other, better stick to one place :)

Regarding the Footer, its expected behavior is to appear on all pages except the landing-page, so if you want it to appear on the landing-page as well you simply need to add an additional section for it under the “Landing-page” tab in the Theme Options page. If this is not related to what you are experiencing please do let me know, as this is the first time “intermittence” is reported to me!

I hope that clears up things a little for you ;) Keep me posted! Sincerely, Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

I’ve cleared the cash, tried multiple browsers, rebooted my system, shut it down for an hour, I tried it in Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer and I’m still having the same issue. I even moved it to the production site, and it will not read the CSS. I don’t have the google font plug in installed, the font is linked in the Header.php file, but as you can see the font is not showing up with the correct style. All of the <h> tags are in the Custom CSS field of the Spark Theme.

http://checkedup.com/site/

I’m not using any other third party plugins.

Jonathan,

The CSS is showing up in the Page Source, I’ve added it to the Custom CSS in the Spark Admin, to style.css in both the parent and child Spark themes, and it is still not showing up in any browser on the production stie.

http://checkedup.com/site/

I even tried to just override the body tag with red, the same that I have the default set to on my dev site, and even that won’t show up.

body {

color: #fc0214 !important;

}

Why is this not working anywhere? Is there something I am missing? I’ve again cleared my cache in all the browsers and it makes no difference. It still shows the default style of your theme.

JoNa
JoNa Author

Dear Tess,

The problem comes from one of your rules put in the “Custom CSS” field, which breaks all following CSS code:

article#footer_modified { background: url(http://checkedup.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/footer1.jpg }

The closing parenthesis here is missing, therefor until it is closed all code is considered as part of the background URL.

Simply add the missing parenthesis and it will unlock the situation (allowing the code that comes after to be parsed):
article#footer_modified { background: url(http://checkedup.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/footer1.jpg) }

I recommend you to help yourself identifying such typo mistakes using this tool: http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/#validate_by_input

I hope that helps, and please feel free to let me know if there is anything else I can do to assist you further ;) Best, Jonathan

Hello tl999,

Thank you for your message. When I access the image directly I can see a TimThumb error (see here) which says to create an empty “index.html” file in the cache director (located in /timthumb/cache/), so I guess you can try to do that or eventually make sure that the cache directory has full permission (chmod 777) via your FTP client.

Regarding the Speed mode it must be the same problem, make sure that permissions are correctly set for the cache folder located in the /static-server/ directory.

It had something to do with one of my firefox addons, not sure which one.

Note to self: when something inexplicable and weird is happening when developing a website: restart firefox in safe mode to see if it is just an addon causing the weirdness!

Ok great thanks for the follow-up, I’m glade you’ve managed to find out where it came from! :)

Hi JoNa,

Spark is a great theme! I have a question about (surprise, surprise) the slider.

Currently the slider on my site is build entirely out of shortcodes. I’d love to have it rotate through all the images only once and then stop on the last image (the fourth picture).

Is it possible to do this? If so, how?

Thanks!

Added note: P.S. The forum isn’t tagging us as “Purchased” but we bought a copy of this theme. Thx!

Hi Experience_Lab,

Thanks for your message. What you are looking for is the “animationLoop” parameter which needs to be turned off. You could do that by editing manually the “/js/spark-main.js” file on line 370.

Let me know if that works for you ;) Best, Jonathan

Thanks Jonathan!

This worked like a charm…except…I have 2 sliders on my page and it stops both of them after the first loop. Ideally, I’d like to have the main slider stop on the final image of the first loop but have the second slider continue to repeat looping.

Thoughts on the best way to do this?

Thanks again, Michael

Hello Experience_Lab,

Thanks for your reply. Ok I see what you need, I’ll add support for more attributes for the [slider] shortcode so you can configure each slider on the page separately. Please allow a few days to release the update, I’ll try keep to you posted when it is available for download ;) Best, Jonathan

Great! Thanks for this, Jonathan.

Has the update taken place yet? If so, where can I find it?

Thx.

Hello Experience_Lab,

Thanks for your message and sorry for the delay, I have just released the update and it is now being processed by Envato. I believe it should be available for download within a few hours. The update will be available for download in your Downloads page: Look at the top of the current page under your personal menu (on the top right) you should have a “Downloads” link.

I have added a new variable to control each slider looping independently, it is available for both the Main Slider and for the shortcode variant, and is fully documented in the “Shortcode” tab in the Theme Options page ;)

I hope that answers your needs, please feel free to contact me again if there’s anything else I can assist you with. Best, Jonathan

Hola Jon! :)

Wanted report a bug once installed into WordPress 3.5.1. I receive this awesome sauce when activating the theme for my company. I can get you login if you would like to investigate more. Here’s the error message:

Warning: Missing argument 1 for spark_populate_default_icons(), called in /home/rwp/public_html/site/wp-content/themes/spark-3.0/core/install/setup.php on line 58 and defined in /home/rwp/public_html/site/wp-content/themes/spark-3.0/core/install/default-icons.php on line 18
