Do you know of way to to add an permanent footer to the bottom of every single post?

For example “Please follow me on twitter/facebook etc” that appears after the main part of the post but before the comments section?

Thanks in advance for your help!

You can add any HTML code using WP filters. You can find a lot of great tutorials on the Internet (example).

That’s great, thanks!

Forget it…I found the files.

I have version 1.3 of this theme. How do I update to the most current version?

Thank you!

You can find a short update instruction in the latest theme documentation. If you didn’t make any theme files modifications just upload the new theme files to your webserver via FTP , replacing all existing files. Your website content and settings will remain untouched. Of course it’s always a good idea to make a backup of your files and database before an update.

Hey E404 ,

Really like your theme and would like to purchase, but wondering how long you plan to keep up-dating it to newer versions of wordpress and for up-dated browsers?

Currently I don’t have plans to stop supporting any of my themes. I will be updating all my themes as long as I will be an active ThemeForest author. And I’m not going to quit anytime soon. ;)

Hello e404,

I have purchased your theme twice (!) for my two web projects, finding it extraordinary and really powerful anyway.

Could you tell me where in CSS file I can change the width ratio between main content and sidebar in main content box? In other words, I want my sidebars narrower. Is this possible?

Thanks for your work!

Thank you for all purchases. :)

The sidebar is made using a standard theme column (one_third), so you can change it to for example one_fourth. To do that just edit the ‘index.php’ template file (or any other template you want), find all ‘two_third’ classes and replace them with ‘three_fourth’, then find all ‘one_third’ classes and replace them with ‘one_fourth’. It’s much easier way than modifying columns width.

Na przyszlosc: mozesz pisac do mnie po polsku, najlepiej mailem. ;)

Dzieki! :):)

I really like how your theme works. Thank you. I just ran the theme through the “Theme-Check” wordpress plug-in, and the plug-in came up with some warnings and recommendations. Are these things that would be updated in your next version update? Also, my site is accumulating many “timthumb_int_” txt files in my cache. Are these important, or necessary?

Thank you very much!

These warnings and recommendations are not critical. In fact, the ThemeForest review team checks every theme with the Theme Check plugin and rejects themes which have important errors. Most of these warnings are related to some specific functions, which can’t be removed or replaced (for example cURL or file_get_contents() calls).

The TimThumb script uses a cache to lower a CPU usage. So it’s normal that the ‘cache’ folder contains a lot of files. Old cache files are automatically removed, so you don’t have to worry about them.

Thanks for your quick response and clarifications on how the themes work!

One more question: is there a way to eliminate the Categories and Tags from the sidebar on the blog page? Thank you very much!

They are default widgets. You can remove them by adding an empty text widget to this sidebar.

Thanks! That was easy! Is there a way to add a background image to the main content area? or the header?

Sure. To add a background image to the header add the following code to the Custom CSS box (Theme Options -> Styling Options):
#header { background: url('http://e404themes.com/spicy/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/img01.jpg'); }
To add a background image to the main content area add the following code to the Custom CSS box:
#main_wrapper { background: url('http://e404themes.com/spicy/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/img01.jpg'); }
Of course you should replace the image URL with your own. You might also need to set a ‘repeat’ attribute.

thank you! That is very helpful.

I love the theme, really nice :) I got a question: I created a new language files under /languages/. How can I use them?

You can read more about using localizations here.

By the way: I always recommend to use the Codestyling Localization plugin for translating themes and plugins.

Another question, I tried to add the Spicy Subpages widget into the Page Sidebar, but it’s not displayed in any of my pages (which have subpages).

Any idea why?

The Subpages widget displays subpages of the current page. If you are sure the page has subpages and the widget still doesn’t display anything, please send me an e-mail with your WordPress login and password – I’ll check it out.

We have small problems with our demo webserver. Our demo sites should be back within an hour.

Hi there,

I have followed your reply to Radio404 above about changing the sidebar width using the column short codes.

This has worked perfectly, but now i would like to change the default width of the post thumbnail image to match the new wider page.

I assume i can change this by editing the index.php again, here:

if($e404_options[‘blog_use_thumbnail’]) { if (has_post_thumbnail()) { $large_image_url = wp_get_attachment_image_src( get_post_thumbnail_id($post->ID), ‘large’); $img_shortcode = ‘[image border=”true” align=”’.$e404_options[‘blog_thumbnails_align’].’” title=”’.the_title_attribute(‘echo=0’).’” size=”large”’;

but what do i enter instead of “large”? Can I enter a width in pixels or is their another short code i can use?

Thanks of your help!

Use “huge” instead of “large”, but only in the shortcode (don’t change the get_post_thumbnail_id() param). You can also remove the “size” param entirely and replace it with the “widht=640” param.

That worked brilliantly, great support again. Thank you.

I have an error when trying to view a portfolio category, I get this:

Warning: include(/home/user/domains/xxx.com/public_html/wp-content/themes/spicy) [function.include]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/user/domains/xxx.com/public_html/wp-includes/template-loader.php on line 43

Warning: include() [function.include]: Failed opening ’/home/user/domains/xxx.com/public_html/wp-content/themes/spicy/’ for inclusion (include_path=’.:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/user/domains/xxx.com/public_html/wp-includes/template-loader.php on line 43

Any idea?

Did you pick your portfolio page on the Portfolio Options screen (Theme Options -> Portfolio Options -> Portfolio Page)?

That was it :) Thank you very much, I guess I missed it in the documentation. Cheers

Another question, Is it possible to get the portfolio item category to be displayed in the portfolio breadcrumb? As it is now when I’m inside a portfolio item, it’s displayed like this:

Home > Portfolio Main Page > Portfolio Item

What I wish for is: Home > Portfolio Main Page > Portfolio Item Category > Portfolio Item

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the quick reply, appreciated

Another thing, is it possible to make the portfolio categories to be displayed in dropdown under the main navigation bar?

Like: Service > Service 1 Service 2

I want: Portfilio > Portfolio Category 1 Portfolio Category 2

You can add portfolio categories to the menu just like any other element. If you can’t see portfolio categories on the menu management page, open the Screen Options (right top corner) and check the Portfolio Categories checkbox.

Thank you so much :)

How I can change the “Home” link text in the breadcrumb navigation?

The ‘in’ in the meta under a blog post is translatable. Besides you can always change it in the ‘index.php’ file.

As I’ve said before, you can change the look of the comments template by modifying the ‘comments.php’ file. The key is the ‘comment_form’ function call – you can find it at the bottom of this file. It’s a standard WordPress function used to customizing the comment form. If you don’t know how to use it please read this article.

Thank I’ll look into it, I was just used that all of these options were available in the comments.php itself :)

If you need my assistance just send me an email with your WP login and password.

I have bought and installed the Spicy theme and have a question about the social media icons with hyperlinks in the header;

I want the social media sites to open in a new browser window using (target=”_blank”) but it is not possible to put that in the Spicy theme options.

In which file should I add that (target=”_blank”) manually to the hyperlinks?

Thanks, Marco

Edit the ‘functions.php’ file and find the ‘e404_show_header_social_icons’ function. In this function find the following line:
$output .= '<a href="'.$site['url'].'" title="'.$site['name'].'"><img src="'.$site['icon'].'" alt="'.$site['name'].'" /></a>'."\n";
and add target=”_blank”:
$output .= '<a href="'.$site['url'].'" title="'.$site['name'].'" target="_blank"><img src="'.$site['icon'].'" alt="'.$site['name'].'" /></a>'."\n";

Excellent, working fine. Thank you for the quick response.

A question regarding [tabs]. Is there anyway to add an icon next to the tab name for each tab?

No, it’s not possible without some code and stylesheet modifications.

If I update the theme will spicy theme options be overwritten?

just making sure…

Theme options will remain untouched, but it’s always a good idea to make a backup of theme files and database before upgrading.

Hey there…

Can you take a look at this for me. Is there any way I can ‘centre’ my logo. As you can see it is slightly to the right. I have tried every bit of CSS I can think of…

Thanks and best wishes Lorrie

Try to modify the left margin of the logo container. Add the following code to the Custom CSS box (Theme Options -> Styling Options):
#logo { margin-left: 10px; }

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! Worked perfectly. I did try that CSS snippet myself, but significantly had not included the hash tag before ‘logo’.

Thank you very much :) Lorrie

Hi I just noticed it In IE and Google Chrome, the button’s padding appears differently than in Firefox.

For example, compare how the Send Message button appears in Firefox vs. IE and Chrome in http://e404themes.com/spicy/contact/.

How can this be fixed so it will appear everywhere as it appears in Firefox?

Thanks in advance

No, it can’t be fixed. Different browsers display form buttons in different way.
