The theme is phenomenal! I am excited to set up my site – quick question about the custom backgrounds…

It if I upload an image (1900×1200, for instance)for a custom header background, the desktop version displays the full resolution image and increases it based on the size of the browser window. This is perfect, and exactly what I am after.

However, when it comes to the iPad or Mobile version, the theme shrinks and tiles the image. Would it be possible to turn this shrinking and tiling function off, and simply have it either crop or scale? I’d like the look to match the desktop if I can.

The website I am beginning to build is here:

Hi, I am not quite sure how to achive this and I don’t have my iPad here to test it, I’ll check back in few hours and let you know the solution ;)

xRicrdx

Hi, sou through the theme options, when you set it up as logo it’s unfortunately not possible, but you could set it as header background, edit some css and it should work ;)

... ok my hosting provider got Stacker de-activated. Now WP is working again. ... so anyone know what went wrong?

xRicrdx

Hi, do you have any special plugins activated that could cause this problem? Also please try to download it once more time, there’s possibility that the file was corrupt.

Hello. I have a number of plug-ins. They seem to be fine with other themes. I just tried installing it again, but same issue. Just breaks WordPress.

.... When I click “Activate” theme, upon refresh I get this: Server error The website encountered an error while retrieving http://www.epicdj.ca/wp-admin/themes.php?activated=true. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly. Here are some suggestions: Reload this webpage later. HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.

I also have no access to WordPress, and the website does not work.

....am I possibly installing it wrong? To install, I zip the folder called “Stacker” (the one with the style sheet in it) and upload. Get a message in WP that says “Installed Successfully”

No it should be all ok, I have a few ideas, but could you please send me an e-mail or post a support ticket to http://jansimecek.ticksy.com ? So I could send you some edited files and we could communicate more easily ;)

Thank you xRicrdx for all your help! I have now managed to finish my website apart from 1 last thing. I can’t figure out how to use the gallery post format and get the slideshow working? I put the images into the post and set it to gallery format but nothing happens???

xRicrdx

Hi, are you adding them there as a gallery ?

  • Bought between 10 and 49 items

Yes, adding as them into a gallery post. Any ideas?

xRicrdx

Just upload image gallery from media upload in the wordpress and select the gallery post format from the right meta box.

Does this theme support custom post types? I am working with a plug-in called All In One Calendar from Time.ly and am troubleshooting some odd behaviors.

I have ruled out a plug-in conflict, and have narrowed it down to the Stacker theme. The custom post types is one of the possibilities the staff at time.ly are suggesting. I figured I’d get your take on it.

Thank you for your time with my first question – you are a phenomenal help to me as I learn the ins and outs of Wordpress.

xRicrdx

Hi, yes this theme support custom post types (for example Portfolio is bulid in) If you want to create new ones you can take the php code from functions.php which defines Portfolio post type as a base for other custom post types.

On a separate note, can you (or another member) help me understand the approach behind the Portfolio posts vs. a regular post? I am looking for examples of why this custom post is helpful and when one would use the portfolio post as opposed to a regular post (they have the same page templates, etc., so it seems)...

xRicrdx

Well the custom post types in the wordpress has been designed to replace separating different posts by categories to make it easier for customers and developers to make Different styles/outputs for different post formats.

Gotcha. So here’s the follow up – there was a comment at the top of page 3 of these comments that talked about the possibility of running 2 different portfolio alt. template pages and you offered to email code and a tutorial to the person to get it up and going. Would you mind emailing me the same information? I think I could use that capability.

Default-user

To clarify, it was question 1 by accreated

xRicrdx

Sure, no problem ;) would you mind sending me an e-mail first so I can know where to send it ? ;)

Default-user

Just sent it – thank you again for working through this with me!

Ok, found that theme conflicts with Jetpack plugin. It is a pity :(

xRicrdx
I think that there are conflits with vimeo and youtube shortcode, so if you remove these lines from short codes.php then it should work:
add_shortcode('vimeo', 'vimeo_shortcode');
add_shortcode('youtube', 'youtube_shortcode');
The jetpack plugins already has these shorcodes build in with similar syntax (if not the same) so you should be ok with that ones ;)

Took out those 2 lines and it doesn’t work with Jetpack activated. The theme just kills WP.

Latest WP, nothing else activated as a test. Definitely Jetpack issue

xRicrdx

Hi, could you please send me an e-mail? I’ll try to send you edited shortcodes.php file which should work ;)

Love the theme… How do I have the menu items NOT BE alphabetized?

xRicrdx

Hi, you can rearrange your menu from Appearance->Menus ;)

Default-user

I’ve tried that about a dozen times. It keeps them in ABC order.

xRicrdx

Hi, you can rearange your menu by going into wordpress admin page -> pages –> click quick edit and put a number in the order input box. Number your pages by how you want to display them, for example pages numbered 1. 2. 3., will be displayed in this order from the left on the menu.

One other quick question – I really appreciate the responsiveness of this design, especially on the iPad. It looks, though, as if there is a width maximum when increasing the windows to keep the overall look and feel of the body portion of the page in a “portrait” orientation, while the header image can grow and grow. The footer also seems to be limited to a max width as well. Any chance I could free the body content to allow it to expand with the header, and/or the footer content? The place this would help out tremendously would be on the iPad, especially when viewing in landscape mode.

Thanks again for all you do!

xRicrdx

Hi, I am deeply sorry to answer after 10 days but I finally have some time and I am getting back to my 24 hour support ;).

Yep it can be done, however the footer widgets will be align to the left and not centered by 3 on 1 row. Only thing you have to do to disable this is to rewrite this:
#mainFooterWrapper {
    max-width: 700px;
    margin: 0 auto;
}

#widgetsFooter {
    overflow: hidden;
    max-width: 700px;
}
to this:
#mainFooterWrapper {
    max-width: 100%;
    margin: 0 auto;
}

#widgetsFooter {
    overflow: hidden;
    max-width: 100%;
}

Thanks for the response on this one!! Works as described, and will alter it based on what happens with the calendar page request below. You are a rockstar.

xRicrdx

I just glad it works ;) thanks

Hi Jan,

I’ve been using your theme for a while, and let me tell you, it’s fantastic. It’s clean, it’s optimized for mobile and retina, I love it.

I wanted to know about expandability for the future. In the not too distant future, I’d like to add a right sidebar to the layout as well. I’d like this sidebar to be compatible with widgets so that I can host ads there, featured article images, etc. Is that a possibility with the current theme, or is that something you could do.

I’d be willing to pay for it.

Thanks a lot,

Jeff.

xRicrdx

Hi,

I think that this should not be that much big of a problem. Of course you will have to do few more widgets to add that functionality to that sidebar, but I don’t think that actually adding that sidebar to the template should be a problem, at least in the blog template. However I could be wrong ;) but in this case I think I am right :D.

Hey – it’s been awhile and thought I would check in with my question 4 posts up. Reading it, I realize I might not have given you enough info – here is the site:

www.youth.mhcoc.org/calendar/

You can see this particular calendar plugin is designed to be responsive as well – but due to the point at which the width stops for a “portrait” orientation, it keeps the poster board view limited to 2 columns of dates when it could resize beyond that.

I am assuming this is a theme design limitation and not a plug-in issue – let me know if I need to talk to the developers as they and I have already been working through some other things… :)

xRicrdx

Hi,

you can try to disable the max-width for the page content by rewriting this in your css:
#container {
    max-width: 700px;
}
to this, or set it again to higher pixel width.
#container {
    max-width: 100%;
}
but if you want to do this just for the page where you have your calendar, you can take the page id and set the 100% width just for that page ;)
page-id-308 #container {
    max-width: 100%!important;
}
Default-user

Thanks for the quick reply!!! changing the container value to 100% worked as described – thanks!!! – But the calendar page only option did not work for some reason. I pasted the code right below the current container code – did I do that right?

Default-user

Scratch that!! I figured out the css syntax was missing a ”.” before the page-id-308. One little period made a big difference, in a great way. :) I should be leaving you alone for a bit – thank you so much!

xRicrdx

No problem ;) thanks.
