I have 3 questions/dilemmas:

1. on the homage page my sliders are disappearing. they were working perfectly fine now all of a sudden whenever i add more than one slider post the box area disappears.

2.on the “our programming page” ( http://chamblu.com/wordpress/our-programming/ ) the tabbed VERTICAL slider is not functioning properly. The arrow will not slide up and down. it stays on the first item only.

3. how do i activate the email/facebook icons/links in the top right bar at the top of the page.

i deactivated a plugin and #1 and #2 from my questions above started working. seems the plugin was interferring with the code.

Hello, I am getting ready to upgrade my Sterling theme and watched your video. I noticed that my child theme is the active theme. Does that matter when I upgrade Sterling main them according to your video?

TrueThemes

Hi There,

When upgrading your Sterling theme it is ok to keep the Child Theme active. The Parent Theme does not need to be activated.

Cheers my friend :)

Can I disable your forms and use gravity forms? I don’t want to confuse client with form links all over?

Can I create 3 or 4 service areas on the home page with either images, video or mini sliders in them? Shortcodes inside text widgets or columns perhaps? And no main slider?

I have a catalog of 100 people offering services. I need more detail on exactly what all available post types are and look like and how they translate into portfolio pages. Some themes require you set up a separate gallery to get a filter able portfolio of images title caption linking back to a full post page. Looks like that may be true here. Is it? What are the post types available?

TrueThemes

Hey There,

Thanks so much for your interest in Sterling.

As per your questions:

1. Yes the built-in form builder can easily be disabled with a click of the mouse and you can use another plugin of your choice.

2. Yes everything below the “main banner area” on the homepage templates is completely customizable. 1-6 columns, and as much content as needed. These layouts are created using the visual shortcode manager.

3. There are 3 custom post types in this theme: Slider Posts for the homepage sliders, Gallery posts for the gallery/portfolio page, and FAQ ’s for the frequently asked questions page.

The portfolio/gallery page is a lightbox portfolio. You are correct, you can indeed link the items to another page rather than a lightbox you will just need to create that other page to link to.

Please let us know if there’s anything else we can do to help.

Cheers :)

And will categories show up on the posts if I disable all other meta ? on the service posts, I want categories and tag links but not dates, authors etc

TrueThemes

Hi There,

We’re slightly confused by this question? Can you kindly provide more insight so we can assist you?

Cheers :)

First, congratulation for your theme wich look amazing.

I am planning to buy it and I have some questions : – Can we have pages (homepage and others) with backgrounds images in fullscreen – Can we use differents backgrounds images for each pages (and not 1 background image for all the website) – Is there a zoom system for the products’pictures?

This is for a new website, which will purpose about twenty luxury hand made products. The ambiance will be minimalist, dark colors, and overall differents high quality pictures as background in fullscreen.

Thank you in advance for your answer.

Thank you for your answer, your theme looks powerful. Is there any french translation ? Any idea to have the possibility of seeing some websites built with Sterling? Thanks.

Default-user

And one lasqt question : is your theme certified W3C valid?

TrueThemes

You’re very welcome my friend.

As per your additional questions:

1. Yes this theme can be translated into French. Sterling has been thoroughly tested and approved by the WPML Team. Sterling has earned the WPML Multilingual Certification. More details about WPML plugin can be found here: http://www.wpml.org

2. Sure thing. Here is a list of websites using the Sterling theme: https://support.truethemes.net/?knowledgebase=sterling-theme-showcase

3. Yes Sterling is W3C valid code. Some of the CSS does not validate because there are some progressive enhancements using CSS3 . The code is indeed valid however since CSS3 has not yet “gone public” the validator only checks against the CSS2 .1 Spec.

Have a wonderful day my friend.

Cheers :)

Hello! How difficult would this be to use the “WP ecommerce” plugin instead of woocommerce? That is what one of my current sites is set up on and I’ve been considering replacing it with this. Great work by the way.

TrueThemes

Hi There,

Thank you so much for your interest in Sterling.

The E-Commerce functionality in Sterling was optimized for the WooCommerce plugin so we are only able to guarantee full compatibility for that plugin.

We don’t have much experience with the WP-ecommerce plugin so we’re unable to say which changes (if any) would be required for full compatibility.

if you are open to changing over to the WooCommerce platform you can do a Google search for “Migrate WP-Ecommerce to WooCommerce”. Maybe you can check out a few articles and see if it’s something you are interested in.

I hope this information is helpful for you my friend.

Cheers :)

Default-user

Thanks for the reply. I wouldn’t have a problem using WooCommerce but there doesn’t appear to be a way to display products in list order. -that I know of.

I need all products in a tight list with no image and no detail description. Just the product’s long name, stock count and add to cart button. Do you by chance know of something I don’t??

TrueThemes

Hi there my friend,

Do you happen to have a link that you can share with us that shows an example of the product formatting you’re after?

We’re pretty sure we know what you’re looking for but it will be very helpful to see an example just to make sure we’re on the same page.

Thanks so much

If I update to the latest version of the Sterling theme (from v1.0.5 to v2.0), will it overwrite my current settings and options that I have set up now and ultimately mess up my site? Or will everything stay the same and I will have the options to utilize the new content within the update? Kinda feels like a dumb question, but better safe than sorry.

TrueThemes

Hi my friend,

Absolutely no worries, this is not a dumb question at all ;)

When upgrading from v1.5 to v2.0 you will not lose any settings. All of your settings and options will remain perfectly safe.

The only thing(s) that would get overwritten during an upgrade is if you’ve made coding changes to the actual theme files themselves. For example: if you opened up ‘header.php’ in a code editor and modified the PHP code, the PHP changes you made would be lost.

Please feel free to give us a shout if there’s anything else we can do to help.

Cheers :)

Ive made minor changes in the built-in code editor, and then I have a handful in the Custom CSS section. Is all of that safe? Thanks for the help!

TrueThemes

Hi There,

Everything within the Custom CSS Panel will be safe. Any changes made within Wordpress’ code editor to the actual theme files will get overwritten during the upgrade.

If you prefer not to lose the coding changes you can first back up the files that you modified, upgrade to v2.0, and then re-add the custom code to the new v2.0 files.

In the future we recommend using the Sterling Child Theme that comes included for free in the download package. This will enable you to make custom coding changes and you will not lose anything during an upgrade.

More details about the Child Theme can be viewed here: http://bit.ly/QhCARm

Nice Theme;

I just got this theme I like it because I need to use WPML and WooCommerce plugins and these theme support them, but I need to use a different slider for every page, I see that slider are only for the Home templates only.

How can I use a different slider for pages, maybe using categories in the slider, and using the category of the slider for calling the slider in different pages.

How can I use different slider un different pages?

Thanks for the help!

Hello,

I updated this theme from 1.5 to 2.0, but I don’t see much difference. Where can I find what is changed in version 2.0? I can’t find a .txt file.

Greetz

TrueThemes

Sure thing my friend.

You can view the Sterling changelog here: https://support.truethemes.net/?knowledgebase=sterling-changelog

Many of the changes were ‘behind the scenes’ optimizations, but you’ll notice most of the front-end changes within the Theme Designer section of the Site Options Panel (Appearance > Site Options) as well as a new ‘Page Styling Options’ when editing a page.

Please let us know if there’s anything else we can do to help.

When viewing on an ipad in a portrait mode, the main nav looks funny. It shouldn’t do this.

Hello,

I am working for an institute that is trying to find an interactive template website, I was wondering if you can answer a few questions:

How would we archive the digital documents on the website?

Would we be able to have a separate space for Associate Members within the site that would be accessible by logging in? How would this be done?

Would we be able to organize things for our conference online?

Is there a document sharing option? Could it serve as a collaborative space for researchers, team members and other community members? How?

Can we post videos, photos, audio/podcasts, twitter/news feeds on the site? How?

How would we use the site as an interactive space? Through a blog? How do we receive feedback/ communicate with users other than publishing static material on the site?

Thank you for your help!!

imiau

TrueThemes

Hey imia,

Thanks so much for your interest in Sterling.

Overall it sounds like your site has some pretty specific requirements, but you can likely achieve something pretty close with the right set of wordpress plugins.

As per your questions:

1) Digital documents can be uploaded via the default Wordpress Media Library. You can then link to these documents anywhere throughout your site.

2) A separate space for associate members is indeed possible. This can be done either via the default Wordpress ‘password protect’ option, or if you’re in need of more in-depth user accounts/features, you can use a 3rd party plugin such as: WishList Member or WP-Members.

3) Organizing things for your conference. What exactly are your needs here? Again this may require a 3rd-party plugin.

4) There is not a document sharing option. This can likely be achieved with a 3rd-party plugin however we don’t have experience building a wordpress-based document charing system so we unfrotauntely do not have any recommended plugins.

5) Yes. Videos, Photos, Twitter feeds, etc can be posted anywwhere throughout your website. Photos and videos are inserted using the default Wordpress Visual Editor. (edit page, upload media). Your twitter feed can be inserted using our built-in twitter feed widget. (drag and drop into the sidebar of your choice)

6) In terms of using your site as an interactive space, this really depends on what you are after as a company. The blog can certainly be used to engage and communicate with your members/customers. There are also things like a “Feedback plugin” which can be used to add a feedback communication form throughout your website. You can also choose to create your own contact form using Sterling’s built-in form builder. Any messages sent through this form will get emailed to your specified addresses as well as stored in your Wordpress Dashboard.

I hope this information is helpful for you my friend.

Please let us know if there’s anything else we can do to help.

Cheers :)

Hi there. The thumbnail images on my home page have disappeared all of the sudden. They were there this morning and now they are gone. I have not touched the page.

When I try to view the image in a separate tab, I get this Timthumb error: Could not create cache clean timestamp file.

I’ve been looking all over for a solution and can not find. Here is the link: http://www.oceanviewfoundation.org/wpsite/

Please advise. Thanks.

Hi. I am looking forward to purchasing the Sterling theme. It looks like 3D CU3ER is integrated in the Karma theme, but not Sterling. Is that correct? If so, can I integrate it into Sterling. Many thanks.

TrueThemes

Hi there,

Thanks so much for your Sterling interest. Yes you are correct, Sterling does not include the CU3ER 3D Slider like the Karma theme. You can indeed incorporate the 3D CU3ER into Sterling, you’ll just need to download the wpCU3ER plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wpcu3er/

Please let us know if there’s anything else we can do to help.

Hi There,

I have been looking for an appropriate theme for our company which needs to utilize the woo commerce plugin functionality.

Looking at your demo everything looks great. There is one function that we need which I am unsure will work with your theme.

Basically we will need to have a shop on our new site but need a way to password protect certain products so that only those are viewable for certain customers. From testing what I have done is use the woo commerce product category short code

[product_category category=”bayswater-primary-school” per_page=”12” columns=”4” orderby=”date” order=”desc”]

on a password protected page which works but breaks the layout of a test theme we have been using.

You can see the page here: http://johnnyharu.com/PWNZ/bayswater-primary-school/ Password is: photowonder

Ideally we would want to have the layout for this page as a full width page or using the current layout on your demo site here: http://demo.truethemes.net/Sterling-Wordpress/ make the product image larger.

If this is possible I will purchase your theme, however since I cannot test this I am unsure about purchasing. If you could answer this that would be great or if there is a way I can purchase to test but get a refund if it dosent work for our purposes?

TrueThemes

Hi my friend,

Thanks so much for your interest in Sterling.

We’ve just tested out adding the WooCommerce shortcodes to a password-protected full-width page template in Sterling and we can confirm that everything works nice and smoothly just as expected.

Please let us know if there’s anything else we can do to help.

Hello,

First off… absolutely brilliant looking theme, spot on! Only problem is, ive just gone to install it and it says that its on v1.5 and i need to update? I literally just bought it so the version on the download is out of date? Please could you email 2.0 to me? My email is james {at} kre8designs.co.uk

Thanks

EDIT —It’s ok now I installed it inside another folder.. should have checked when ftping!!

TrueThemes

Awesome. So glad to hear you’re all sorted.

Cheers :)

Please could you tell me if there is a way to have 2 FAQs pages?

TrueThemes

Apologies but this is not currently available my friend. Perhaps using the Accordion shortcodes could act as a secondary FAQ page for your needs?

Please give us a shout if there’s anything else we can do to help.

Cheers :)
