Hi, thank you for the theme, looks brilliant

I am having an issue however with the mobile version of the site, when it re-sizes, it chops off part of the white image frame in the slider and doesn’t look so great – is there any way I can fix this issue? The problem is also on the demo site.

Cheers

TrueThemes

Sure thing my friend.

We’ve just tested Sterling demo site on iPad retina and iPhone4 and the image frame in slider is rendering nicely on both devices.

Sometimes in normal desktop web browser you can first re-size the browser to desired dimensions and then re-fresh the page. This will help to mimic a mobile device more accurately.

Hey TrueThemes,

Great theme so far. One problem. When I try to install the Layer Slider plugin, it throws a 404. CU3ER installed fine, but the LayerSlider does not seem to be able to be found. Any ideas?

TrueThemes

Hi There,

Yes this is generally caused by setting on the web server preventing the file from being installed from our secure S3 server.

We’re very happy to provide the instructions for workaround.

Hi! I have a presale question…

We are reviewing your Karma and Sterling Wordpress themes. And we tend to prefer Sterling BUT the menu for Karma is much more functional on a mobile because it is organized into sections just like the menu as it displays on a desktop computer. But on Sterling the entire menu becomes one enormous list without any organization.

Is there any option on Sterling to have its mobile menu function more like Karma? Or is there an option to completely replace the menu with a different one?

TrueThemes

Hi There,

Thanks so much for your interest in our themes.

There’s currently not a Sterling mobile menu option which mimics the Karma mobile menu. You can however indeed modify your Sterling theme’s code to include a different mobile menu of your choosing.

Sterling mobile menu also has the option of only displaying “top-level items” which cleans up the dropdown menu quite a bit.

Please give us a shout if there’s anything else we can do to assist.

Thanks so much

Another presale question…can we have flyout menu panels as well as the dropdown panels?

TrueThemes

Hi There,

Yes Sterling theme supports 3 levels of dropdown menus. If there is a “3rd level” of navigation it will “flyout” from the dropdown menu.

Hope this is helpful my friend.

Cheers :)

LeatherwingStudios

Does Karma also support 3 levels of dropdown menus?

TrueThemes

Apologies for the delay my friend. Yes this also applies to Karma theme.

Two more presale questions about Sterling as well as Karma…

Is there a limit as to how many top level menu items we can have? And can we reposition the dropdown menu bar to be higher or lower on the page?

Thanks in advance for your assistance! :)

TrueThemes

Hi There,

- The top-level has no limit to the amount of items however at some point the menu may start to “wrap” depending on the amount of menu items + the size of the logo. If the wrapping is not significant the menu can be easily adjusted with some minor CSS to make things fit nicely (we’re happy to provide this CSS)

- The dropdown menu bar can be adjusted by adding CSS code to the ‘Custom CSS’ section of both theme’s options panels. If you are able to provide a screenshot of the desired outcome we can gladly provide more details about the required customization.

Thanks so much

Cheers :)

Does this answer also apply to Karma?

I used this code to center the main menu and the company logo: header .sub-menu a {padding:9px 0px !important;} nav ul {text-align:center !important;} header nav {position:relative !important; top:30px !important; display:block !important;} .companyIdentity img {float:none !important; margin:0 auto !important; padding:0 !important; display:block !important;}

Now i need to change the color, the font and the background of the main menu. How can i do?

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Hello, I like your theme, I would like to know before buying a few things. is it possible to make this price list through template or should something else?

Hi There,

The pricing boxes outlined in the link above are custom-built by the user and not available within default Sterling theme.

You might be interested in checking out our Vision Shortcodes Plugin which includes some super-awesome pricing boxes: http://codecanyon.net/item/vision-wordpress-shortcodes-plugin/3372371

Hi,

I’ve just updated to the newest version of Sterling, 2.1.4, but i still can’t find the pricing boxes short code.

Can you please advise how to do this.

Thanks

TrueThemes

Sure thing my friend.

The pricing boxes are located within Sterling’s default shortcode manager from within the Wordpress Visual Editor. They are labeled ‘Pricing Boxes’ within the dropdown list.

Hi,

How do i change the main nag. font colour?

Thanks!

TrueThemes

Sure thing my friend.

The simplest method for doing so is adding a small bit of CSS code to the Custom CSS section of Sterling’s Site Options Panel. (located under Appearance > Site Options > Styling and CSS > Custom CSS).

Simply copy/paste the CSS code below and adjust as per your requirements:

header nav a {
color:#000;
}

Sure thing Muratic,

- The first item listed can be tackled using many of the popular Wordpress compression plugins. A great one that we recommend is Better Wordpress Minify: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bwp-minify/

- The second item refers to hosting your website’s content on a CDN (content delivery network) and is not related to the actual Sterling theme itself. You can learn more about CDN’s by doing s Google Search for: CDN Wordpress.

TrueThemes

Hey Carole,

Thanks so much for your interest in Sterling.

- Yes the Left-Nav template can be used as any page within your website. (ie the homepage)

Thanks!

TrueThemes

Hi my friend,

There are not currently any pending tickets on our HelpDesk. Can you kindly post your Ticket ID # or your username and we’ll gladly double check to see if something is missing?

- As per Documentation, Sterling comes with a written User Documentation. This is located within the file named “Documentation.html” within the package you recieved from ThemeForest.

- Sterling also comes with complete set of Training Videos which can be viewed here: http://vimeopro.com/truethemes/sterling-wordpress-theme

- For Wordpress infomation in general we highly recommend Google and YouTube. Wordpress has a huge community and a simple search for anything you need is likely only a few clicks away. If there’s something specific that you’re looking for please let us know and we’re happy to try and dig up some resources.

I have two clients who’d like their sites to go responsive.

I’m a designer, not a code warrior. No better than intermediate in making WordPress do a reasonable share of what I want it to do. There are free responsive themes like Montezuma, with limited support. But it strikes me that if a Premium theme comes with willing and thorough support, that might work well for me.

Your description of Sterling brags (convincingly) about customer support. Says the theme is designed for the range from veteran pro to beginner. Says you’re a design shop. All of that sounds good to me.

You have many videos. You have other doc. I’m happy to immerse myself in that kind of support before seeking the help of a living person.

Do you think we’d be a good fit?

TrueThemes

Hi There,

Thanks so much for your interest in the Sterling theme.

It sounds like the Sterling theme and a relationship with us is a great fit. A fully-functional and powerful responsive website can be setup using Sterling without writing a single line of code.

Please let us know if there’s anything else we can assist with.

One comment is something I also see, and others may too. At the demo shown at the following link, if one drag the browser window almost all the way to the left, then the image and text in the slider breaks. http://themeforest.net/item/sterling-responsive-wordpress-theme/2320578

The discussion, not yet far along, is at: webweavers@googlegroups.com.

The poster is named Jefferis (should be easy to search for). ; )

TrueThemes

Thanks so much for posting these my friend.

The Slider in Sterling works beautifully in all mobile devices. No images get cut off, etc.

Please note that responsive design is meant for actual mobile devices and not meant for someone sitting there making their web browser smaller and larger.

The best way to mimic a mobile device in the web browser is to first re-size the browser to your desired dimensions and then refresh the page. This will provide a more accurate representation of how the site will load on that particular mobile device.

Please let us know if there’s anything else at all we can do to assist.

Your explanation not only makes sense, it also worked when I just tried it. I’m going to post your words to the discussion list to clear up the matter.

I’m awaiting approval from my client to purchase Sterling. In the meantime, I have two startup questions.

1. Using Sterling, can I develop a distinctive layout for the pages while still allowing the client to learn how to make simple text changes in the WordPress Dashboard? Will CSS generated by me make their learning difficult? Will their use of the Dashboard muck up my design?
On 2 other WordPress sites I discovered that HTML I added in the Text view was altered or removed by using the Visual view. Would my client's future edits in Visual break my code?
2. Will Sterling allow me to include a search of the site where the return isn't just highlighted "hits" in the text. Instead the site search would return a webpage showing small blocks of content that contain the searched for term.
My client sells products from about 20 manufacturers. If a site visitor enters "relief valve" in the internal search, could the search result show the half dozen manufacturers who make relief valves? I envision the resulting page looking a little like one of your gallery pages, where each manufacturer has a small colored rectangle perhaps 220 pixels wide by 500 high (on a monitor).
TrueThemes

Hi,

1. You can make coding changes on the backed while the client is in the Dashboard making content changes. Please note that if you change the name of the page template while the user is working on adage they’ll simply need to re-choose their newly named page template.

Switching between HTML view and Text view should be nice and seamless without any issues.

2. It sounds like this can indeed be done however a customized search layout is not built into the theme by default. You’ll need to custom-code a search results page and possibly modify the default Wordpress search functioning to be tailored to your specific needs.

We hope this information is helpful my friend.

Cheers :)

I bought Serentiy, and this message is in part a test to see if I now have risen to the status of “PURCHASED.” My loyalty to your creations is demonstrated by the two hours it took to get PayPal to “bless” my account there. Last year it had been hacked, and I stopped using it. Re-authenticating it online proved impossible. 2 calls to the 888 number finally worked. Living human beings still have their place. My vote would be for ThemeForest to offer a payment method in addition to PayPal. That may be a non-trivial expense, but I bet it would raise sales, at least somewhat.

If custom-coding a search results page and possibly modifying the default Wordpress search functioning is beyond my skills (I hear the gods and satyrs laughing wildly at the thought that they are NOT beyond my abilities), do you know of freelance folks who might do that for me?
TrueThemes

Hello! I am trying to translate my theme in French. I found the instructions in the support center. But I imagine there is a fastest way than to translate every single line using Poedit… There is no fr_CA file already done somewhere I can use?

Also, on my main menu, I have long titles so I can not enter them all… Any suggestions? Could we separate the menu title on two lines? Something like :

Math Classes

instead of Math classes

Thanks!! Carole

TrueThemes

Hey Carole,

Apologies but Sterling does not currently come with a French Translation. Other than translating the strings yourself another option is to use a translating service such icanlocalize.com to translate for you.

You can also use a free tool such as Google Browser Translate tools to translate your Dashbpard on the fly: http://translate.google.com/translate_buttons

As per adjusting the main menu items this can be done by adding a “break tag” in the Menu Item Names. For example: click on ‘Appearance > Menus’ and select the menu item you wish to edit. Then edit the label by adding a <br /> in between “Math” and “Classes”.
