Hi, seem to be a bit lost here. I’ve seen mention of “instructions” but haven’t seen any. I’ve purchased the theme but would love some documentation to get it looking like the demo. Help?

by_heath

Hi Russell, Thanks for purchasing:) Did you select “All files and Documentation” or just the “Installable WordPress File only” ? If you download “All files and Documentation” you should find a folder in the root called “Documentation” in there you will find an index.php file – open that in your preferred browser.

Cheers, Heath

Hi Heath. I did and it looks great. However I’m having difficulty quite quickly In the part to create a new page, the Page Attributes panel with Template does not show the 3 choices you’ve mentioned (tabloid, etc.) but rather: Default, Archives, Home – Fullwidth, Home – Sidebar, etc. Help?

Default-user

Never mind. ;)

For some reason my tagline isn’t showing. Any idea why?

Default-user

Yes. Right now the browser title only shows the page or post name, followed by my site name. The tagline isn’t displayed anywhere.

by_heath

Hi sorry for the delay in reply. Are you using an SEO plugin or anything that might be overriding it?

Default-user

Good thinking – I am using Wordpress SEO by Yoast, which overrode the tagline set in the theme options. It needed to be set on the home page instead. Thanks Heath!

Thank you! Is there a way to ad an ad unit to the header? Also is there a way to bump down the navigation menu here? My logo is a tad big so it takes up room vertically. The menu stays at the top and looks a bit odd there.

Add this to your custom CSS editor:

main-menu li:first-child{

margin-top: 25px; }

Is there a way to add a second style of gallery? Like the bxslider? I am trying to create an experience that will have various gallery types for various sections.

Would love to know your thoughts on this! :)

How can I tell what the latest version is? You had mentioned adding/tweaking a few things in an update. We’re running version 0.1

by_heath

Hey Jorgemonkey, I have uploaded a new version for review. you should get an email from ThemeForest when it’s available. It will show as v0.9

Is there custom css that I can add that would decrease the space between widgets?

One last QQ. What would be the code to do the same between widgets that are in the body of the homepage? The standard code to fix this issue for sidebar widgets does not work for the widgets placed Below Blog/Index. Thanks Heath!

by_heath

This should do it for you: .rpwe-block .row div { margin-bottom: 0px !important; }

only re upload the theme files?

by_heath

Yes, you only want to upload the theme files to the “themes” folder. Before doing so, rename your old theme folder (ie “stream-v008”).

Hello. Just one question before buying the theme. I wish I could set the home with the latest news slider boxed and not fullscreen. is it possible? thank you very much L.

by_heath

Hi Deversus, Thanks for your interest. Yes there is a boxed version of the slider, all you need to do is select the option in the theme customizer.

Cheers, Heath

Hi heath,

Please provide a change log or theme version so we can easily manage theme updates. Hope you don’t mind :)

by_heath

Yep, will sort this out. The latest update included custom category nav for the tabloid homepage, and ultimate social deux fixes – which you already have;)

Today we went live with your theme on allfacebook.de. Thx a lot!

nice work jenswiese:)

hi I see the instructions to look in the archive for the demo.xml to bring in the demo content and yet I cannot find a file called archive in my download.

Could you point me to where it is? I did find and upload C:\Users\themeforest-7126153-stream-a-modern-magazine-theme-made-for-reading.zip\Demo Content\stream.wordpress.2014-02-18 but I see no change to the site.

I am pretty new at this so i made need a few basic instructions

by_heath

Hey bakleysmith, Thanks for purchasing. Did you download “All files” rather than “Installable Theme Files”. You should see a folder in the root called “Demo Content”. You should also see a “Documentation” which containts the instructions on how to import. Cheers, Heath

No matter how I arrange the menus, all my categories show up in alphabetical order.

by_heath

Hi garyowen73, You can create a custom menu for the Tabloid Category Tabs. First you will need to go into the Theme Customizer. Go to “Appearance > Customize”. The locate the “Navigation” tab. At the bottom of the tab pane you will see “Alphabetical” or “Custom Menu” – select “Custom Menu” and then hit save. Now you can go to “Appearance > Menus” and create the menu you want to display. Once you have created and saved the menu, click on the “Manage Locations”. You will see three locations. Select the menu you just created from the “Tabloid Category Menu” dropdown and then hit “save changes”, and you will now be able to see your custom category menu on the Tabloid template. Cheers, Heath

Homepage slider: I’ve created a static page, tried to add the “Featured” category to posts, and still nothing. Website: sunnyinkabul.com.

by_heath

Hi garyowen, Did you set the page template as one of the homepage options? You will also need to set the static page as your front page, which you can do via the theme customizer. You will see the last tab is “Static Front Page”, you can assign it there. Cheers, Heath

Hi Heath, I updated the theme to the latest version. I did it through deleting the existing version of the theme and then uploaded the new version through Wordpress dashboard. After updating, my main page uses the Tabloid template, I get the following 2 errors that display in the middle of the page (I starred out my username):

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home2/**/public_html/wp-content/themes/stream/page-templates/home-tabloid.php on line 122

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home2/**/public_html/wp-content/themes/stream/page-templates/home-tabloid.php on line 199

Not sure if I did something wrong or if there is an easy fix to this? Thanks!

by_heath

Oh crap. Completely my fault, I’m very sorry for the inconvenience nvincible (prenzlweb & anyone else affected). It’s to do with the update. I added in a custom menu option for the tabloid category navigation and it looks like I’ve set the default as the custom menu rather than the existing alphabetical ordering. I will release a patch immediately. The good news is you can quickly fix it now. Go into your “Appearance > Customize” open the Navigation Tab and select under the heading “Tabloid Category Menu” click on “Custom Menu” then re-select “Alphabetical” and you will see the problem has been resolved in the live preview. Now just hit save. Cheers, Heath

Default-user

No worries, Heath! Thanks for the quick response. That did the trick!

The same here like above nvinceble:

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in …. :(

by_heath

Hey Prenzlweb, Terribly sorry for this. You can quickly fix it now. Go into your “Appearance > Customize” open the Navigation Tab and select under the heading “Tabloid Category Menu” click on “Custom Menu” then re-select “Alphabetical” and you will see the problem has been resolved in the live preview. Now just hit save. Cheers, Heath

Is there a way to show recent posts and widgets afterward on the tabloid home page instead of the tabs and widgets afterward?

by_heath

Hi addisonfilm, Sorry for the delay I’ve been on break over Easter. Have you tried one of the other homepage templates? The homepage w/sidebar should be exactly what you’re looking for. Cheers, Heath

Default-user

Perfect. Thanks Heath, great work and looking forward to the next one.

Hi,

I’m looking for the section that allows me to edit a users profile picture and cover image. I can’t seem to find it anywhere :/

by_heath

Hi dispatchd, Sorry for the delay I’ve been on break over Easter. Wordpress uses gravatars. If you head over to http://www.gravatar.com and setup a gravatar with your email address it will automatically be pulled through onto the site. The author cover image uses the authors latest post featured image. I will also add a custom field whereby you can select a custom image in the next week or so.

Cheers, Heath

I can’t seem to get the features slider to work. And for that matter, the styling of the footer seems a bit borked.

Here’s the site I’m working on:

http://rjkoehler.com/seoultest

Any idea what I’m doing wrong?

- Robert

by_heath

Hey rjkoehler, Sorry for the delay, I have been on easter break with my family. Have you assigned any of the posts to the “Featured” category? This is how you add them to the feature slider. Are you using all 4 of the footer slots, or are you using just footer slot 3?

Cheers, Heath

Default-user

Yes, I have added posts to the “Featured” category, and I’m using all four of the footer slots.

by_heath

I’m not sure what is happening with the feature slider – I haven’t seen this happen before. It doesn’t exist at all in the code? Can you head over to the support forum (http://support.byheath.com). I am going to need to login and see what’s going on.

Hi Heath, I’m a beginner with Wordpress so hopefully these questions will be of some value to others in the same boat…

1) Can your theme support easy Woo Commerce integration?
2) Is your theme SEO optimized, easily SEO optimizable, or is “SEO optimized” just a fluffy term?
3) I’m interested in the use of child themes for updates, are you planning on doing anything along that line?
4) How often are you updating the theme to stay compatible with the most recent forms of Wordpress?
5) Are you planning on making a retina-ready update that users of the theme can easily install?
And lastly…
6) How easy would forum integration be?

Sorry if that’s asking a lot presale! You have a really gorgeous theme and, like many have said here, very unique insofar as the magazine themes go. Love to hear back from ya!

Alex

by_heath

Hey Alex,

No worries.

1) Yes, you can easily integrate woo commerce, however, it does not include styling for it so I can’t guarantee it would look great. I will have a play around in the next week or so and see how it looks. 2) A little from column A, B and C. A) From a coding perspective It has been coded properly for search engines to recognize things like where content begins and ends, titles etc. B) You will still need to install an SEO plugin like SEO yoast to help optimize your content. C) Having a SEO optimized theme doesn’t guarantee anything. Ultimately, how well you rank will depend on lots of things: – how much competition there is for your keywords, product/site, – your social media score, – how engaging your content, etc 3) It is child theme ready. 4) I’m constantly updating the theme to better accommodate users. It is compatible with WordPress 3.9 5) It is already retina ready ;) All it really means is that the theme doesn’t use any images as part of the UI. So all icons are CSS or icon fonts. 6) It all depends on what type of forum plugin you are looking to use. They could range from simple to advanced – honestly I haven’t looked into it.

Hope that all helps:)

Cheers, Heath
