Discussion on StrictOne: Portfolio & Blog for Creatives

Almost ready to buy, just two questions: 1. Can all of the folio thumbnails be big as the first one? 2. There’s a problem on mobile devices, where you have no hover actions, just click, so on a iPhone for instance, sometimes you cant see the title of the thumbnail, because you click it and are immediately taken to that item full view. Is it possible to fix it, so that on mobile devices 1st click(touch)>show the thumbnail details 2nd click(touch)>view the item? If so, I’m sold… i mean I buy! :)

1. If I choose the project layout w/o the sidebar, is the image bigger than /w the sidebar? 2. Where do I customize (if even) my photo? Because I want to add my photo, and a short bio of me on the starting page, where currently the text “Responsive Portfolio & Blog WP theme” is. Can i change that?

StrictThemes

1. Text part will be resized. Images wil stay on the same size.

2. Frontpage comes with two widgetized area: – a. Below projects. – b. By left side of projects. “Responsive Portfolio & Blog WP theme” created via standard text widget. Drop your photo and bio on that sidebar.

The theme is fantastic, I have a question please. Can you show the latest post in the style portfolio of the main page?

StrictThemes

Be default standard posts can be shown as posts only. Otherwise, you need to change a concept of theme.

Hey there,

First of all, amazing theme! A few questions before (maybe) buying the theme..

1: I’m planning to use the layout for a magazine website. Is it possible to use the Portfolio feature as some sort of magazine layout? 2: The ‘big’ portfolio item, would it be possible to add more big items on the frontpage (creating a magazine layout) or is just one allowed. 3: Would it be possible to create a textoverlay (instead hover with title etc.) on portfolio items to give it a headline / description? Short text area or something. 4: How about video compatibility? 5: How easy is it to customize the theme myself?

I am there again haha. http://strictthemes.com/strictone/shortcodes/elements/

The toggle function, how is it possible to make toggle first, second and third like on the link above? [ toggle ] ... [ / toggle ] creates seperate toggles, instead of responding to eachother by opening / closing.

The documentation: http://strictthemes.com/documentation/shortcodes/toggle/ is showing the example of seperate toggles.

Thanks in advance!

StrictThemes

Take a look an example of accordion http://strictthemes.com/documentation/shortcodes/accordion/

You need to wrap a group of your toggles by [accordion] .. [/accordion] shortcode.

Hello. First of all, congratulations for the theme. So elegant, functional and aesthetic. I am very happy with it.

I only have two simple questions:

01. I found in the tutorials that there’s a “Post Format” for the blog content (standard, image, gallery, etc.) but in my admin does not appear. Can this be due to the wordpress version I’m currently using? (3.6.1)

02. In your “demo blog” I see that in the footer of each post are the typical “Next” and “Previous” buttons to navigate between content. How can I add those?.

Thank you so much.

StrictThemes

Hello. Many thanks for purchasing!

Make sure you’re using last version of theme. It must be 2.0 or later. Otherwise go to ‘Admin Panel > Appearance > Themes’ and update StrictOne within one click.

UPD: In case you’re using an early version you have to re-upload new version of theme by yourself. Download the last version from Download tab on your TF account.

Hello. I am creating my first website and am learning as I go… So far, I am really enjoying the theme and I love the gallery format. I am having trouble getting the images to be the same size in the gallery format. Can I set an the image to “fit to the thumbnail,” then click on the thumbnail to see the whole image?

Thanks, this will help! I am really impressed with your quick responses and patience with the learning curve I am experiencing :)

Theme is great, recently went through my first upgrade and that went seamlessly as far as I can tell. One issue I’ve noticed though is that the time difference displayed next to comments are wrong. I just posted a reply to a user on a post and it immediately displayed as 5hrs ago. The current local time is 2:54pm, Wordpress general setting are set correctly to UTC -5 (WP displays Local time is 2013-11-13 14:54:38) and the timestamp for the comment is 2013/11/13 at 2:52 pm

Thanks, I get the notifications but don’t usually have the time to update, I’ll keep that in mind from now on.

Couple other things I noticed in the ST Kit plugin there’s a number of social icons missing in color (white ones are in the color folder) folder: stkit\assets\images\icons\72\social\color and the Pinterest link (maybe other social shares too) should encode the description, an apostrophe early in my post cut off the rest of the copy.

It would also be great if you could update the form to use type=”email” and type=”url” for the email/url field so the appropriate keyboard shows up on devices (especially since it’s a responsive design) and there’s a bug in clicking on an input field not removing the dummy text.

Sorry about all the bug reports/feature requests! If there’s a better way to report them to you than through here please let me know. I’d usually just go fix them myself but then I wouldn’t be able to reliably upgrade. If you have a Git repo I’d be happy to pull request bug fixes.

StrictThemes

Many thanks for reports. For a future report you can use my email info@strictthemes.com

Thanks again.

StrictThemes

Comment form has been improved. Nice Time function has been fixed. You have to update the theme and St Kit plugin.

Hi great theme.

One question… When setting up a new project, would I be able to add multiple images? Because with a few of my projects, I would like to showcase key aspects of the project, which require multiple images.

For me, this is a key aspect and will determent if I would purchase this theme

Thanks

BrooklynScoop

I’ve purchased and installed this theme. When I installed the ST Kit plugin, I get “Current theme isn’t compatible with ST Kit plugin. Get a compatible theme”.

I deleted the plugin and reinstalled it, still no success.

Any suggestions?

BrooklynScoop

Please ignore the previous post. It’s working.

Hi, first I want to thank you for this great theme. I have currently the problem, that I am not able to change the general settings (like numbers of projects to view in frontpage etc). Any advice?

thanks in advance! Sandra

StrictThemes

Yes, however by default the concept of theme assumes to have a static layout of front page. As I see you’re using a Child theme, thus you can use template-frontpage.php file within it. See name of portfolio template #103 and #109 lines.

Default-user

sorry for asking a bit stupid but what should i change in line 103 and 109? include( locate_template( ’/includes/projects/t1-dummy.php’ ) );

StrictThemes

Change the name of portfolio template. By default it’s t1.

1. Copy template-frontpage.php file to the Child theme.

2. Find #103 and #109 lines

3. Replace the name of portfolio template within new. e.g. default, t2, or t5.

Hi,

I am a video editor and I would like to have the thumbnails in the 16×9 aspect ratio so I don’t have to crop anything from the videos. Is this possible?

Thanks, Mike

StrictThemes

Hi Mike,

It’s about geometrical issue and it assumes to have other concept of grid. Take a look – http://clip2net.com/clip/m0/1390867805-clip-75kb.jpg

Regards, Igor

Default-user

Yes – that’s what I’d like it to look like. Is that possible?

StrictThemes

It’s possible through a deep customization only. It assumes to re-build the grid.

I do not know how to change thins thru CCS?

StrictThemes

It’s not clear. Could you provide more info?

Regards, Igor

Hi there

I really like the theme but would like my home page to look slightly different.

Preferred option would be to build it with Visual Composer so basically skip the homepage template completely and just go with a standard page – how might I do this.

Alternatively, if the above is a lot of faff, can the sidebar be moved to the right on the homepage template instead of defaulting on the left?

Many thanks Sara

Default-user

Hi Igor. I did have it set on the reading options in settings and it wasn’t working but then I’ve realised the ‘home’ page I set up had template set to front page and not default – sorted now!! Sorry to bother you. Thanks for your help. Sara

Default-user

P.S. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly as well!

StrictThemes

You’re welcome :)

Love the theme. Is it possible to use the standard home layout for blog posts instead of projects? Or to change the name “project” into something else like “blog” or “news”?

Thanks! Robert

StrictThemes

Hi Robert, and thank you for feedback.

Yes, by default the theme comes with blogroll o frontpage. Portfolio on frontpage is optional.

Regards, Igor

traveljunks

Hi Igor, thanks for the quick response.

I like the layout of the frontpage as displayed in the demo, but the blogroll would look like this on frontpage? http://strictthemes.com/strictone/blog/

Thanks, Robert

StrictThemes

Yes, blogroll like that demo – http://strictthemes.com/strictone/blog/

Grid layout available for portfolio only.

Regards, Igor

There’s a bug in the accompanying stkit plugin that’s causing “Auto Draft” to display in my breadcrumb trail. I’m using the latest available versions of Wordpress, the theme and the plugin.

I added this to my child theme’s functions.php to solve it:

function strictone_fix_breadcrumb_trail($trail) { foreach($trail as $key => $data) { if(strpos($data, 'Auto Draft') !== false) unset($trail[$key]); } return $trail; } add_filter('breadcrumb_trail_items','strictone_fix_breadcrumb_trail');
StrictThemes

So elegant solution. Thank you :) I’ll add it to the next version of ST Kit.

Regards, Igor

Default-user

Did this make it into the latest version of the plugin? I don’t see the past few versions documented in the plugin or the changelog http://strictthemes.com/documentation/changelogs/plugin-st-kit/

StrictThemes

Version 1.4.8 already comes with that filter.

The way you pass params to the comment_form blocks the ability to use add_filters on the comment form default values. For example:

add_filter( 'comment_form_defaults', 'cl_comment_custom', 11 );

function cl_comment_custom($defaults)
{
    $defaults['comment_notes_after'] = 'HELLO - this should print after the comment box but before the submit button';
    return $defaults;
}
Doesn’t work, good news is I debugged it for ya ;)

It would be great if you could adjust the arguments currently passed to comment_form() as a filter instead of forcing them.

I solved this for the time being by adding the following to my functions.php

add_filter( 'comment_form_default_fields', 'strictone_comment_fields', 9 );

function strictone_comment_fields($defaults){

    global $st_Settings;

    $defaults['author'] = '
        <div class="input-text-box input-text-name">
            <div>
                <input
                    type="text"
                    name="author"
                    id="author"
                    value="' . esc_attr( $commenter['comment_author'] ? $commenter['comment_author'] : '' ) . '"
                    placeholder="' . __( 'Name', 'strictthemes' ) . '"
                    />
            </div>
        </div>';

    $defaults['email'] = '
        <div class="input-text-box input-text-email">
            <div>
                <input
                    type="email"
                    name="email"
                    id="email"
                    value="' . esc_attr( $commenter['comment_author_email'] ? $commenter['comment_author_email'] : '' ) . '"
                    placeholder="' . __( 'Email', 'strictthemes' ) . '"
                    />
            </div>
        </div>
        <div class="clear"><!-- --></div>';

    $defaults['url'] = !empty( $st_Settings['website_on_comments'] ) && $st_Settings['website_on_comments'] == 'yes' ? '
        <div class="input-text-box">
            <div>
                <input
                    type="url"
                    name="url"
                    id="url"
                    value="' . esc_attr( $commenter['comment_author_url'] ? $commenter['comment_author_url'] : '' ) . '"
                    placeholder="' . __( 'Website', 'strictthemes' ) . '"
                    />
            </div>
        </div>' : '';

        return $defaults;
    }

add_filter( 'comment_form_defaults', 'strictone_comments', 9 );

function strictone_comments($defaults)
{

        $defaults['comment_notes_before'] = '';

        $defaults['comment_field'] = '
            <div class="textarea-box">
                <textarea
                    name="comment"
                    id="comment"
                    cols="100"
                    rows="10"
                    placeholder="' . __( 'Type here', 'strictthemes' ) . '"></textarea>
                <div class="clear"><!-- --></div>
            </div>';

        $defaults['comment_notes_after'] = '';
    return $defaults;
}

and changing comment_form( $st_['comments_args'] ); to comment_form() in comments.php

I set the strict one filters to priority 9 cause the default is 10 and any default filters added in a child theme should override the ones built into the theme (in my opinion.)

Thanks again!

Hi there,

Thanks for the theme it’s really good so far and does everything I need it to do and more, I just have a question I’m having a little trouble with.

I’ve changed the Home Page Template to the Default Template, but how do I import the projects layout such as the default Home Page?

Thanks.

StrictThemes

Hi, and thank you for purchasing.

By default the default frontpage must comes with blogroll. For projects you can use a special templates only.

Hi again and sorry for pestering, I have another small problem.

I’ve managed to get the Front Page – Projects to show up on the custom Home Page, but for some reason there’s only 5 projects showing. I’ve tried to also $st_Settings[‘projects_qty’] to 6, but this has no effect either.

Is there something I can edit in the likes of t1.php to increase how many projects it shows?

Thanks.

When I try and install the ST Kit plugin I get taken to a “ERROR 403 – FORBIDDEN” page shown to me by Hostgator. Any idea why that might be?

StrictThemes

Hi,

It’s about security settings on your server. Thus you have to install ST Kit manually – http://strictthemes.com/manuals/how-to-install-st-kit-plugin-by-yourself/

Thank you!

We are trying to create a custom Front page as static page on our website http://jenla.org, but we are struggling that our query is not properly working with pagination as it either skips few posts, displays an extra post or we cannot change the number of posts to show on secondary pages. What we are trying to achieve is show 8 (latest) posts in the front page and 12 in the paged pages. This is the code: http://pastebin.com/t51n04f6 that we’ve been tweaking but can’t get to make it work, could you guys point us to the right direction please?

StrictThemes

Hello,

You should use the template-frontpage.php as the base.
// Paged
if ( get_query_var('paged') ) {
    $paged = get_query_var('paged'); }

elseif ( get_query_var('page') ) {
    $paged = get_query_var('page'); }

else {
    $paged = 1; }
