I am interested in purchasing this however I have a few questions. Right now I use this theme: http://themeforest.net/item/bretheon-premium-wordpress-theme/4001061

My site is http://www.abedward.com

This template is horrible for SEO and it is ultra slow. Bad code.

What makes your template superior for SEO and can you see any improvements it can make for our company right of the bat?

Thanks!

Hi Tommy

I had a long comment in here, but the TF comment system is malfunctioning at this moment, so i have removed it. I will come back later and post it once it is working correctly.

I read it. Amazing response. I will be purchasing tomorrow. There needs to be more companies like you here on Theme Forest. Awesome Info! :)

Hi Tommy

I regret to say I know nothing about this theme whatsoever (I’d never heard of it actually but that really means nothing). I can advise we refuse to build into our product any of these page builder type plugins/scripts as they are absolutely awful to work with and highly restrictive in our opinion.

I do notice on your site that there seems to be a problem with the nav script – I noticed that some of the dropdowns were having problems staying focused in firefox which is my normal browser of choice. The rev slider integration also seems to be odd, as it is not responsive, and I am wondering how it is integrated.

I have to say I think you have done a nice job on your site homepage. Were I a customer landing on it I would think I have visited a nice professional site. I know you indicated the theme code is bad and it is slow, but at least from an appearance perspective, you have an attractive design.

You should be aware that any of the advanced sliders like the Revolution slider, the Layered slider, etc, add to page loading times. This is not the same as an issue of bad coding and its affect on other matters, but these sliders do impose a burden on sites and I felt in fairness that you should be aware of that.

In respect of other recommendations, I really don’t have any as beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Rather I recommend that you peruse the list of sites we have posted on our Item Details page, all which are built with various iterations of the responsive betas, and see whether anything catches your eye or not.

Striking Responsive has a huge feature list. Realistically, no site, even an advanced one, is going to use more then 40-50% of its features, but the goal is to give choice, and to give customizability. A substantial portion of our buyers are professional designers, so we have really three levels of features in Striking Responsive – Normal (little or no knowledge required to use), Intermediate (helps to know the wp basics or perhaps how that function works on the web to use best) and Advanced (has css and design options and so web/design knowledge is required to obtain maximum benefit). In the Striking Item details just below the list of sample responsive sites is a link to a forum thread on comments from users, and I suggest you review that thread.

In respect of clean code, I believe I can say we have always been renown for clean code. But you should be aware we do use a lot of cutting edge techniques in Striking Responsive. So if you test us against something like W3C compliance. I can only imagine the results since we are far ahead of it on the curve. We of course use only valid html5 and css, including many new css3 techniques, plus the very latest in js including backbone mvc js, etc. but the css and js interpreters vary from browser to browser. I just wanted you to be aware of that.

Otherwise, I can only point to the comments from responsive adopters, and our overall average as a theme. We have a 4.75 average after having been rated almost 2300 times. That is remarkable. It was easy to have a high average at the outset but we are 3 years old, and to be maintaining that rating after all this time I think says volumes about the quality of our product. Its not perfect, but its pretty darned good. It does deliver incredible value for the price for a retail theme in this type of marketplace.

One other thing I will add. As we are an older theme, well out of the limelight (notwithstanding the fact we have the most updates of any theme in the marketplace as we always stay current, and the forthcoming responsive update is just a part of that commitment to staying current), people don’t tend to find us first because we do not get any visibility under the Themeforest sales architecture. Buyers usually end up buying something all glossy on their first landing to TF, and its only after they hit a trainwreck and they themselves have learned a few things, that they learn what they really need, and then find us. We hope with the responsive update to become first choice again but you would be at least the 5000th purchaser to have come to us after exhausting other choices, and then Eureka!

Thanks for inquiring about Striking.

Best Regards
Striking Team

After that amazing email, we went ahead and purchased it. I cannot tell you just how simply amazing and POWERFUL SEO wise this theme is. The cleanest code, easy tools, proper formatting and to say quick is an understatement. Trust me, if you are looking for a theme that rocks for SEO, this is the one. I have been using WordPress and it’s templates since it’s inception and this is by far the best most effective template I have used to date. Great work, great communication and customer responsiveness and support! A++

Hi

I went to your link, and your site looks wonderful. I hope you upgrade to the responsive version soon as I would like to add your site to our forthcoming revised showcase in the commercial category.

I also ask that you go to our forum thread on Posting your Sites and add it to the thread so that I have more info on you and your site. I am assuming you are the designer for the site.

Just a heads up that the Roboto font you are using from google is available as a fontface font, and implementing it via fontface is both quicker, and saves you some external script calls, and therefore a speed improvement.

Look forward to seeing you at our forum!

Thank you very much for the complements about Striking.

I am thinking of purchasing this theme … just a few questions before I do …

1 … it appears the responsive is beta at the moment. Does this mean that if I purchased the theme today … later when the responsive theme is ready for full release it would just be as simple as updating the theme? Or are the Responsive theme and the current non-responsive theme two separate things?

2 … are the Portfolios fully customizable. They appear to be … but I ask this because we just purchased another theme that wasn’t very customizable. it’s Portfolio page had very little code to mess with and was linked to templates and posts. So basically the portfolio page called to the most recent pages and added them to the page. We need to be able to define what thumbnails go on an individual portfolio page and be able to define where they link to. (hope that makes sense).

I appreciate your help and look forward to your response … the seem looks great and we hope it is able to do these things.

kaptinlin

Hi thisGguy:

Thank you for your interest in Striking.

Striking Regular and Striking Responsive are different frameworks, but, we were smart about how we did things -> you install Striking Responsive as a new theme, and activate it, and it reads all your current striking settings and applies them. The caveat is where the setting no longer exists, of course it is not applied. This mainly applies to Sliders, as there are differences between them.

If you go to our support forum, and read the latest sticky post on the last beta released, my first comment is on the upgrade procedures. But on official release I will be doing a full screencast to give our users a video tutorial. Most of the sites listed in the examples are sites that converted from Striking Regular to Striking Responsive.

The portfolios are fully customizable. Our portfolios work by shortcode, so one can actually have a portfolio list consisting of just one item, or a hundred, filtering by many different ways.

Striking Responsive has 7 different portfolio types, include a link portfolio type so that one can display a thumbnail in a portfolio list, and have it link directly to a blog post, page, outside url, etc. We also have a substitute image ability in the Image type portfolio, so that when one clicks on a portfolio list thumbnail, a different image opens in a lightbox.

On the portfolio single post page, one is able to exert full control over what appears. So whereas one might have had one featured image appear in the portfolio list, on the single post page, it can be disabled, and one have different content appear via the post content editor. This is useful for video and audio portfolio items. Our video portfolio supports mp4 self hosted video as well as youtube and vimeo.

Please let me know if the above managed to address all your questions. We are told by users our portfolio abilities and customizability are better then what they have found elsewhere, but of course, that is a matter of opinion. But I do believe they are extremely good and compare better then average.

Hey James …

Thanks for the quick and thorough response.

You have great theme support (and you’re obviously a good sales person). You’ve convinced me!

I suppose this is why this theme has sold close to $1,000,000. We’ll deserved (and I’ll see first hand here as I’m about to push the purchase).

Thanks again for your help with this … I’m excited to dive in.

kaptinlin

Your welcome.

I don’t see the purchase badge for you yet, but hopefully we will add you as a client.

Hey James …

I purchased over a week ago. Not sure why the purchase badge isn’t appearing.

Love the theme … it’s very well organized. The PDF in the documentation folder could be a little clearer. But I read on your support forum it is pretty outdated and you have made a lot of changes to the shortcodes and such.

So I’ve been working on a site … and all seems to be going smoothly with one exception. When we made a Portfolio page … it seems to not be working perfectly.

The Portfolio Items work fine (these pages display proper video and images). But when we click on the Portfolio page with the thumbnails … the images pop up properly in the lightbox window … however the videos do not.

I’ve tried everything I can think of … but it’s still not working. Any thoughts?

Here is a link to to portfolio page …

http://www.annewilde.com/portfolio/

Basically … in the Edit Portfolio Item … I’ve set the “Portfolio Categories” to “Video”

Set the “Portfolio Type” in the “Portfolio general Setup” to “Video”

In the Portfolio Type:Video tab … i set the “Video Link for Lightbox” to the youtube full url link

Thanks a lot in advance for all your help.

kaptinlin

Hi

For the error you are having, I need you to post at the support forum, and one of the team members (which might be me) will assist you. I think you are setting up the video portfolio item incorrectly, and a quick discourse at the support forum, where we can post some screenshots in the thread, should get you on track. If not, then we will exchange contact info via the forum personal messaging system and we will log into your site and check out what is happening.

Hi,

I’m having trouble with the Anything Slider on the homepage in IE7. The slider images don’t load and the images at the bottom look like they’re trying to load and never do. This is not an issue in any other browser but IE7.

http://www.westchesterpowerwashing.com http://i.imgur.com/KKejO0N.png?1

Please advise! Thanks.

kaptinlin

Hi Popdmb:

IE7. Really? Only 1/10th of 1% of the world actually still has ie7, and you are in NY where the percentage is essentially zero! So I am not quite sure why this is important? :D

I will nonetheless add this to the review list for the next update of Striking Regular.

BTW, Themeforest has dropped support requirements for IE6-8, fyi. Its only because Striking has been around for 3 years that you see older browsers supported, themes from the last year or so don’t bother.

I would in fact recommend you jump to Striking Responsive, and even in it we do provide some support for older browsers, although of course many modern css3 and js techniques don’t work in these older browsers. But I would think an increasing portion of your website traffic is mobile platform based, and thus a responsive site would be appropriate.

Should you have any other questions on this or any other matter, please post at our support forum. We do not provide theme support in these comments and I only replied this extensively here due to my surprise that anyone cared about that old dinosaur.

The .pdf provided, under the installation section, says I need to have PHP 5.2.4 & MySQL 5.0 in order for striking to function properly. I am not a technical person. Where do I get PHP and MySQL and is it free? Is there a link for me to follow to find it and download it? Stupid question, I know:)

kaptinlin

Hi AmandLynn:

These are provided by your hosting provider. It is the backbone of your hosting environment. So you do not have to do anything. Virtually all modern hosting environments use these versions of PHP and MySql.

The instruction .pdf provided, on page 3, mentions I need to verify my installed Wordpress version is 3.2 or higher. I think mine’s old. How do I verify this and how do I install a newer version?

kaptinlin

Hi Amandalynn:

The version of WP you are using is noted right in the WP dashboard home. The “Right Now” metabox notes the types of content you have ->pages, posts, categories, etc, and then underneath it gives you the theme name and the version of Wordpress you are using.

My current website is a flash site I purchased from www.bludomain.com and I host through them (blu?) as well as pay for my domain through them. I’m concerned switching from them to not them is going to be problematic. A couple questions:

You need to update your Striking to the latest version as well. Which for Striking Regular is version 5.2.1.

Should you have any further questions in respect of this or any other matter, please register at the support forum and ask your questions there. As is very clearly indicated in the Support Tab above and in the Item Description, the forum is where we support our users. Looking at the theme demo and some of the sites you list using the theme

One of the sites is http://cigzululand.co.za/ but it seems VERY different to the theme demo. For example the menu seems very different, it’s lower and the menu stays on screen even when you scroll down.

Is it just heavily customised? Or does that site no longer use the theme?

Thanks

kaptinlin

Hi David

That is because, as per the explanation given just above that list of sites, those users have jumped to the responsive beta version of Striking. Our responsive version is a free update of Striking. It has been in development for several months now, and users have been converting to it as they became comfortable. Now about 10% of the user base has converted and more are doing so every day as we have now settled into the final pre-release stages ->the beta has been set, and we are working on the ancillary matters such as new demo content, and new content for our Themeforest demo and sales page.

So anyone purchasing Striking at this time has a choice, they can build their site using Striking 5.2.1 which is a regular fixed width theme, or they can surf over to our support forum, and then follow the links for downloading the free upgrade to the responsive version. Most recent purchasers have gone straight to the responsive version, as it has many, many new features.

Even though Striking Responsive uses different coding and a different framework, users are able to do a theme switch from Striking 5.2.1, and retain all their content, settings, colors, fonts, and everything else other then when a feature has not carried over from one to the other version. We wrote our code so that our users can jump without hassles. We have a forum thread on the methodology.

Here is sort of a rough estimation of the difference in abilities:

If Striking 5.2.1 is baseline at 100% then Striking Responsive is about 250% of abilities in respect of the baseline.

As for that particular site zululand insurance, the only custom feature in it is the site is using custom icons for the social icons. Everything else i see on the front page is stock to Striking Responsive. In fact, the site is using only a small portion of the responsive theme abilities, but that is expected. I would be surprised to find any one site that uses more then 40%-50% of what Striking Responsive contains in feature sets, but this provides users more flexibility in respect of design as a result. No two sites have to look the same.

I hope this answers your question(s). Striking users essentially are running with two separate versions of Striking at this time, according to their choice. This will continue until we formally update Striking here at Themeforest to the responsive framework, at which point Striking Regular will no longer be available.

Hi,

I purchased Striking for a client but I am unable to see in the forum where or how to upgrade to the responsive theme.

I had posted some questions via private message but haven’t heard back so I’m wondering if my messages are not going through (I find the forum a bit confusing and overwhelming). I am a relative newbie so if this is a complicated update, I will may need some guidance.

I also have a new client who really likes Striking but before I purchase it for them I want to be sure that a new purchase will be of the responsive theme. I also have some very specific questions about whether some customizations my client is seeking are built in to the theme:

1. Can the navigation bar tabs be set to different colors? In other words can “home” be blue and “about” be purple and “services” be aqua?

2. Can the drop down menu backgrounds be coordinated with the tab colors?

3. Can social icons be placed at the top right above the nav bar?

4. Can the drop down boxes have rounded edges?

My client likes a site done in a different theme but the customizations she wants are not built in to that theme. The site they like is http://baosmoothies.com They don’t want to pay for a completely customized site, which I could’t do on my own anyway, so I’m wondering how close I can get with Striking.

Thanks!

Hi James. THANK YOU!

This is, without a doubt, the best team and the best theme on Theme Forest! Thank you so much for taking the time to answer all of my questions with patient, clear explanations.

I am just finishing up my first site in Striking and am about to purchase the theme for use on a second client site.

If anyone is hesitating on purchasing this theme, I can promise you that you will not find a more thoughtful design or better customer service anywhere. Buy it!

So excited to have found you guys!

Thanks again!

I’ve been building wordpress sites for a few years now and this is the best theme I ever purchased. A steal at $55 and very happy to hear that the responsive upgrade to the theme will be included for free for all buyers of the standard theme. A ton of functions and a VERY extensive, yet not overwhelming admin menu like I’ve never seen before.

I really like this theme. The example pages and templates look fantastic. I am however, pretty disappointed in it’s usability myself. When I purchased it, it read as though anyone of any skill level could produce a site with this theme. This is not the case. I am by no means an expert but I have basic to moderate skills in web maintenance and have managed an already established company website before, but I simply cannot build this from scratch myself. I’m now going to have to go to a professional web developer to do most of the work, which I thought I would be able to avoid.

I’ve only contacted support once for an issue which I have since resolved myself, but that was weeks ago, and rather than a simple reply, I received nothing.

kaptinlin

Hi Z516897

First let me apologize, I regret we missed your thread issue. You did post on the support forum? I cannot find any user by your user name and our signup instructions are for users to employ the same name as they utilize here at Themeforest.

In respect of usability, we do have some videos which might assist you. But we provide live support for when a user really runs into trouble, which of course we would be willing to do for you as well. We have thousands of users who possess only the most rudimentary of knowledge and yet have succeeded with Striking. We like to think everyone can, but we know that occasionally, the process just goes completely astray for a user. When this happens, we are more then prepared to jump in, even with a one on one tutorial if necessary to get the user back on track.

I will add btw that our responsive beta has significantly more fleshed out help fields. Striking Regular has a 48 page pdf document found in the document folder of your download, but it is out of date – we have added many features since it was created, and updated the admin as well. The responsive beta – which is free for you – follow the links on the forum to obtain it, has the help built right into the theme.

I ask that you please go to the forum, and create a new thread, and reference this Themeforest conversation. I will see the thread and reply to you with arrangements to connect on skype.

kaptinlin

Hi

Please go to this link:

http://www.strikingsupport.com/license-certificate

and it will show you how to find and download your certificate. The procedure is correct as I just tested it to confirm it is still correct.

I checked your homepage, and I see several errors via our developer console although i cannot yet determine the cause. Pending your registering for the support forum I suggest you do the following:

a) reinstall Striking by ftp b) reinstall wordpress which you do via the dashboard c) Go to the Striking Advanced panel and toggle the “Clear Cache” setting to ON and then save the panel.

As I am certain you are aware, what is happening is not normal, so it gets down to nailing the cause. If you continue to have problems with obtaining your license certificate then contact themeforest support for assistance on the matter.

The contact form widget does not have a phone number field. While we do have some threads on the forum about modifying the widget, our normal recommendation to a user is that if they require more complex contact forms that they use a 3rd party plugin.

Hi jt webdesigns

Since you are jumping from a version that old, we normally suggest you update the theme by ftp, rather then updating using the internal update function found in the Striking Advanced Panel/Update your Striking Theme Tab.

If you have any questions about updating by ftp, or on any other matter, we request you go to our support forum, register (takes 30 seconds to do) and post a new thread, and one of the support team members will reply to you.

Hello Kaptinlin,

I have a problem with my site where I installed your theme. Maybe you could have a look and help me? here is my URL : http://www.marketingdereseausolution.com I have published 40 blogpost altogether. My homepage displays my blogposts page. The first page displays the first 12 posts, but when you scroll all the way down that pages and click to go to the next page, it doesnt work… It just comes back to my homepage. So there is no way to access the previous blogposts… Any idea where the problem comes from?

My 2nd question is probably easier: I d like to insert a video always appearing on the top of my homepage, which means on the top of my blogposts page. Is it possible to do that with your theme?
