If one gets such a message, it usually is due to the fact the content has been removed at the source, in other words the vimeo or youtube video has been removed. It could also be due to the fact that content has a geographic restriction, although that is a rarer matter.
We will go through the vids later and if any have been taken down at source, we will replace them. Thanks for letting us know.
I want to buy this theme, but need to know if I can have multiple portfolios, and choose which one to display on a certain page. Thanks, looks like a great theme.
Thank you for your interest in Striking.
When I see a question like this, it reminds me that many abilities that we take for granted in Striking in fact are not common in other themes, even premium ones.
In Striking, one can have as many portfolios as one wants, can display them as many times as they like, can display them on any page or post they want, can display multiple portfolios filtered more ways then most ever need anywhere they want as often as they want, etc.
And in Striking Responsive – which is free for all Striking owners, we have introduced new portfolio types (it has 8 different types of portfolios now).
If you go to our support forum and read this thread:
You will get a taste of how users are feeling about Striking Responsive, which we are going to be releasing very soon.
BTW, everything I just said about portfolios? It applies to blog posts, shortcoded sliders, lightboxes, gmaps, etc.
I know our current demo and Item Description is way out of date, it only gives a flavour of what Striking does now. But soon it will all change…....
Thanks again for your inquiry. I think there is a comment on one of the two prior pages from someone who bought after quizzing us on abilities, and came back and was very happy. Hope you will be too!
Patiently waiting for the update that includes the responsive option.
Thank you very much.
That is a great site. Thank you for sharing it with us.
As you may be able to tell by the recent activity, we are ramping up to the official responsive release. But you should certainly download the beta and start playing around with it in the interim. It has many new features and abilities (8 portfolio types for example) and now is the time to start getting familiar with it.
Many users have already converted their sites – I have posted a sample list of sites that have converted on the Item Details page of Striking.
The best WP theme I’ve come across by far!
I have a small website which is half blog and half ecommerce site using the WooCommerce plugin. I’ve tried several different themes over the years and haven’t been 100% happy with any of them – until I installed Striking that is!
Compatibility with WooCommerce is flawless and there are so many options to get the site looking at working just the way you want. A novice can have a great looking site up and running in no time with ease, and more experienced users will love the flexibility and compatibility to get the site just as required.
Most importantly of all, the support is great – fast and helpful. Any small bugs are soon squashed and the theme kept up-to-date for new WP versions etc.
5 star theme, 100% recomended!
Thank you for the wonderful recommendation. Glad we were the one that made the grade. Your words essentially echo numerous (thousands) of past comments we have received -> people don’t find us initially unless they search the best selling themes of all time, and by then they have been through many other templates with varying degrees of success. Then they find us, and the world turns in a positive way again for them.
Look forward to seeing your wonderful site (both you and forgottenwarrior.com above have great color schemes) convert to responsive in the near future.
i think it’s time to add RTL support wnd your sales will be up 50% for sure?
We have full RTL support in Striking, both the 5 series and Striking Responsive. The Item Description page is about to receive a complete overhaul (it is very out of date on features) and we will be sure to add this more prominently to the revised description. It is in the description area below the twitter and support links, but one has to search to find it…...
I've just updated the theme to the latest one, and my menus no longer work. Any ideas?
I just went to your site and saw that the menus are working. But can you please go to the Striking Advanced Panel and toggle the Striking Cache setting to ON, and then save it please.
Should you need any further assistance, as per the instructions in the Support Tab above, please go to the Striking Support forum, register if you are not yet registered, and post a thread with your questions.
Hi Kaptinlin, I did try toggling the cache, but had no effect. So I reinstalled an older version of Striking theme (july 2012) that still worked. As a business I couldn’t risk the website not working properly. Apart from the menus, homepage slider wasn’t working either which wasn’t creating a good impression of the website. I’ve looked at the support forums but couldn’t find anything related to menus, any ideas?
PS. Did the new theme require latest wordpress 3.6.1 to work? only the last time I installed wordpress update, my nextgen gallery stopped working, so I reinstalled previous version!
Many thanks for your time
Time for you to visit the support forum, per my above instructions.
I have been using Striking for a few years now for our small business’s website. This is a great theme; it’s very flexible, and gives you the ability to customize it to suit your preferences and needs. The support is amazing. Even with a large customer base and the huge range of options each customer has, they provide detailed, personalized answers every single day.
I’ve used a variety of free themes for other small projects for friends or family, and every time I run into something that I have to figure out and wrestle with that just WORKS with Striking. There is a ton of stuff built into the framework that makes putting together a site so much easier. It’s definitely worth purchasing.
I am not one to write reviews or comments, but Striking is such a incredible product I could not resist.
Unlike a lot of products on the market today, Striking delivers what it promises.
I am a small business just wanting to update the look of a website that I had professionally done some years ago. At present I did not have the money to hire a developer so I decided to purchase striking because of all the sites I saw built on this template.
The thing is, I know nothing about website development. I attempted this once before, hit a roadblock and gave up and called a developer.
With Striking, a little time and a little patience I was able to create a website that not only suits my needs but I’m very proud of.
Striking is not just good, it’s fantastic. and on top of that the support is second to none. and there’s a lot to be learned from others in the support forum as well.
I looked at thousands of templates. I could not be happier with my decision to purchase STRIKING.
I tried creating a support login but it’s telling me “Envato Username is Required. & Item Purchase Code is Required.” But it doesn’t give me a chance to enter those in.
Please help, need to get the responsive beta, thanks.
Yes, I see the issue, the fields are not coming up. We will fix this.
In the interim, the link are in the support forum threads, which you can read, you just cannot post.
Here is the link for info and downloading:
Sorry about the inconvenience. We will fix this on Tuesday.
The registration issue at our support forum has been fixed. Thank you for your patience.
I’m trying to register at your site http://kaptinlin.com/support/entry/register?Target=search but it keeps giving me an error to enter my envato username and item purchase code but there is not a field to enter a purchase code. What am I doing wrong?
As per my reply immediately above your comment, we have to fix the forum registration. This will be done in the next few hours.
Please check back with the forum on Thursday, as it should be fixed by that point and time. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Is it possible to add additional fields to the widget > contact form? I want to add email and phone and require them. I tried to install 2 different form plugins but they will not show up in the striking theme. See http://thefencecompanyonline.com/test-page/ it just shows the shortcode. Thanks.
What two contact form plugins did not work with Striking? Striking is certified to work for Contact Form 7, Fast Secure Contact Forms, Quforms and Gravity Forms. That is 95% of the contact form market right there.
I see the contact form 7 shortcode, but the plugin itself does not show as active in the site (I have developer tools that allow me to see exactly what is active at this time and you have no contact form plugins active at the moment I checked – actually you had no plugins active at all and I took a snapshot of the code to confirm) so the shortcode strings will obviously not work.
I realize you may not be able to register at the support form this moment, but it will be fixed for Thursday, and then I recommend you post on the support forum and we will work to assist you.
Once you register and post, we will assist you. Lots (likely hundreds) of sites have C7 running, so I do not know what your issue might be, but we will walk you through it.
Please can you advise how I apply for membership to Kaptinlin.
After adding the necessary fields requested it then asks for
Envato Username is Required.
Item Purchase Code is Required.
These fields are not available to enter. Please advise
Stupid question, but how do I create an RTL version of the website? if you can direct me to the steps I have to take i’ll be greatful.
We have a number of threads on RTL in the support forum. RTL is automatic when one is using an rtl language for the wp admin.
If you look in the Striking CSS folder in the theme files, you will see that there is a whole css file for rtl, and it is called automatically per wp codex guidelines when one sets the language of the site in the wp.config file (or when you create your wp admin using an rtl language).
If running a multilanguage install, using say wpml plugin, then the plugin guides on enabling the rtl for themes which have support RTL – which Striking does.
If you have any difficulties or stumbling blocks on this matter please go to the Striking forum, register and post, and we will assist you.
Is it possible to put tabs on a page with this theme?
Of course! One can have tabs in pages, posts, the text widget in the sidebar or footer, the post excerpt, etc.
I hope this was your question and I did not misunderstand it. It really seemed to simple! This is such a basic ability we just take it for granted…...
Very cool. Thanks so much. I can totally understand why it’s common but you’d be surprised how many templates don’t have this function or at least don’t make it simple. I’ve looked at hundreds of themes.
We have a tab shortcode. It has 3 variations: tabs, mini tabs, and vertical tabs. Within the tabs, one can place almost any content, including other theme shortcodes.
The tab shortcode can also be put into a text widget, a common use, with each tab having some content.
The following page has some examples of tabs:
The tabs can also have colors (we did not set any in the demo) with the color options found in the Striking color panel.
This theme is starting to look like everything I’ve been looking for in a portfolio theme. A few questions, though:
1. Can the images be displayed flat, without the 3D effect (curvature/shadows)?
2. Can the portfolio images have the spacing between them adjusted all the way down to butting them up to each other or anything in between?
3. From what I’m reading about how flexible the layouts are, can I assume that I could use multiple portfolios within the One Page layout?
4. I see the various icon overlays for links, magnifier, doc, etc. From the code sample shown, it seems that I could provide my own icons for the overlays…is that correct?
5. Since there is the ability to overlay portfolio images with an icon, is it also possible to overlay the entire image with a solid color with text and/or icons for the links, magnifier, docs, etc.? I’ve seen this effect in other portfolios. It’s a nice way to do it without having extra space taken up with descriptive text below the image.
Thanks for your interest in Striking.
1) A perfectly flat design would require some css adjustments. Neither Striking 5.2 series or Striking Responsive are flat designs, although Striking Responsive does have some flat design options – removing gradients and shadows between sections of the page. We always relied on custom css for this as it is so simple to do, and Striking accommodates custom css with great ease.
2) This can only be done with custom css, the normal columns have of course padding, etc. We have posted on the forum on this in the past for users desiring to change the spacing between images. But it is not a “setting”.
3) Yes, absolutely. One can post several different portfolio shortcodes in one page, and each be a different number of columns, and show different options with the thumbnail. The only thing you will need to remember is that the post thumbnail sizes will be different, so if you have different column sizes, you may need different portfolio items. For example, out of the box, the 3 column thumbnail size has an image ratio of 1.62:1 (w x h) and the 4 column thumbnail size has an out of the box ratio of 1.44:1. The height is adjustable but not the width. So if one was having both a 3 column and 4 column portfolio, you would need 2 separate portfolio items to display the image, with each featured image sized differently.
4) only through customization that you undertake yourself. We might introduce such at a future date in Striking Responsive, but this is not determined at this time.
Thank you for inquiring into Striking. Sorry about the delay in responding -> we all have been working on the official release of Striking Responsive and missed a day coming here to check for questions.
Thanks for the response. A few follow-ups:
1. When you say making CSS adjustments to make the image frames flat with no shadow, is that simple CSS adjustments like finding the piece of code and making shadow on or off, or curved box on or off—or are those CSS adjustments much more complex?
2. Re: the thumbnails used in combining portfolios of different column settings on one page, you give ratios of those thumbnails. If the image is not to that ratio, does it crop or disproportionately fill the thumbnail space? So, would I have to upload to the specific proportion, or can I let it crop—and if it crops, can the image be moved inside that area to adjust the crop?
3. From what I’ve read in your release posts about Striking Responsive, are you including the ability to do both links and Lightbox from within an image in a portfolio?
4. I couldn’t tell from your response whether one of your answers was addressing the question of making solid color with text overlays on portfolio thumbnails or not.
5. With the release of Striking Responsive, is that going to be a separate release or an update—if I want the responsive version should I wait to purchase?
6. Sorry if this is a stupid question…I have another blog which I created using a child theme from the original so I could make some CSS adjustments without messing up the original code. I see in your notes that this comes with a child theme. Does that mean that if I update Striking at any time, and I’ve used a child theme, will it update the theme and still leave the CSS customization in place, or does that all have to be reapplied?
When you say making CSS adjustments to make the image frames flat with no shadow, is that simple CSS adjustments like finding the piece of code and making shadow on or off, or curved box on or off—or are those CSS adjustments much more complex?
Usually it is a matter of specifying no shadow, or no background along with the selector and most often it is just 1 or 2 lines of css _> and striking has a very nice custom css field in the theme elements for this task so that it is not necessary to create a child theme or hard code files (we were one of the very first themes to have this feature at TF). Normally one can use firebug to detect the element they want to modify, and refer to the master css file to validate if they have any questions.
Yes, depending on the size of the image and its ratio compared to the array ratio, wordpress itself crops, and sometimes distorts the image. Its best to upload an image preconfigured, but wp includes an image editor, and also the ability to create a thumbnail, as part of the editor. There is no way to “move an image around an area” in the wp editor of which I am aware. The thumbnail generator is for this purpose.
From what I’ve read in your release posts about Striking Responsive, are you including the ability to do both links and Lightbox from within an image in a portfolio?
Yes, the thumbnail image (which is the featured image of a portfolio post when it appears in a portfolio list on a webpage)can be set to open to a larger image in a lightbox (Image Portfolio type and the larger image can be a different one) or it can be a link to another webpage, either internal or external (Link type portfolio), to the portfolio item webpage (Document type portfolio) or to a pdf, ms office, etc (Doc Type portfolio or Lightbox type portfolio – both can do pdfs). We have 8 (actually 9 but that is quibbling) portfolio types, I suspect the most of any wordpress theme (no one has told us of a theme with more and we have not seen one…..).
I couldn’t tell from your response whether one of your answers was addressing the question of making solid color with text overlays on portfolio thumbnails or not.
No, that is not a feature in Striking or Striking Responsive. We have other effects in Striking Responsive, but not the one’s you referenced. You can load your own icons of course, as long as you understand how to do that type of customization.
With the release of Striking Responsive, is that going to be a separate release or an update—if I want the responsive version should I wait to purchase?
It is a free upgrade for all license holders. Everyone who owns Striking now already has access to the responsive version, and we will be substituting the responsive version in the theme file pack at Themeforest on official release. So buying now gets you the regular version, and the beta of the responsive (by way of our forum where we have the download link), and later, the official release.
On the child, we are likely not going to bother releasing the child for the responsive version, unless one can confirm to us that they are an experienced designer and understand very, very thoroughly how childs work. A child is not necessary for Striking, we have built hundreds of sites and never used our own child once! Striking has internal js and css fields in the admin (in many places) and all their content is stored in the database, so it is untouched by theme updates. php functions can be put in the functions.php file in the Striking root. Even all the designers who use Striking no longer use the child and some of them were really old school, before they finally caught up to our coding and framework, and ditched their child’s.
Of course, you can build your own child from scratch as well.
If one was making lots of php changes to various filters or to the head.php, etc, then a child would be necessary. But someone who understood childs well enough would never have to ask the question in the first place. BTW, child’s have to update from time to time as well, when the wp core changes, and when inexperienced users don’t update correctly in these situations we call it “site suicide by child theme”!
Hope I answered all your questions. Whew!
Thanks very much for your thorough answers! A few more questions as I explore the theme:
1. Does your site allow for lazy loading or partial loading of images?
2. Can you put a small image in the Header Introduce Text as well as text? That would solve a big layout problem for me.
3. Can the header/menu be made fixed position?
4. For the home page slider, I need to use say a dozen small (width) images and have five or six of them showing at any one time, and have them loop—similar to this sort of function: http://slidervilla.com/roster/roster-slider-only-image-scroll/
The user could navigate with arrows but not have the slider work automatically. Is that something any of your sliders can do? If not, is it an easy thing to disable your slider and replace it with on that will do that?
5. Will you have any option for masonry-style portfolios or galleries in the next update?
Wow, I never saw so many questions for a $55 purchase!!
1) yes, with the right lazyload plugin
4) not a feature of the theme.
5) not as part of the core. A sep development team with whom we have a relationship is building some paid addons for Striking. They have advised they are including a masonry type look in their work. There are free plugins that work with Striking as well for grid or masonry appearances.
I’m very sorry about all the questions. I REALLY appreciate you taking the time. And I must say you have the most throughly detailed page of features of any theme I’ve seen. I thank you for that, too.
But it did save me having to buy a few themes that looked like they fit my purposes on the surface, but ultimately didn’t—and probably saved me many days of experimentation with them only to find out they didn’t do what I wanted. Unfortunately, I had now narrowed it down to Striking and another, but there were a couple design elements in the other that made it just a little easier to work with my design out of the box. Even so, if that decision doesn’t work out, I’ll be back to buy Striking.
I did, however, recommend this to a friend who is looking for something that I think this would be perfect for. Thanks again.
Your welcome. Good luck with the other theme.
We tend to find that many users buy something else initially, and then come back to us afterwards when they find out that the degree of customization and flexibility they required was not available in that product. Even if you check out some of the comments either here or at the forum, you will see that users get “seduced” thinking that something they saw elsewhere trumped what was available in Striking, and after pulling their hair out, come back to us.
The only major features Striking Responsive does not have are retina, masonry and the page builder. I don’t count lazyload as a major feature, but it does not include lazyload.
We prefer to leave these retina, masonry and lazyload to plugins. That may change in the future. Page builder we really detest, as what seems like a good idea in the short term is incredibly awful in practice most of the time, and brutal once one wants to start to really tweak a page or post in detail. The only good aspect of it is that it has sent us many customers over time.
I wish you best of luck with your project and thank you for the customer referral. Striking Responsive shall be out soon, and perhaps we will draw you back at a future date.
Hello, when it’s released the final version of the responsive site?
We are working on this. Ideally, by next Sunday if we can get all the related work for a release complete. I would say no more then 7 days from today’s date at the outside, as the beta development path itself has been completed.
Thanks for your interest. Striking Responsive we believe (and judging from the feedback so far) sets a new standard for a multipurpose theme and has amazing customization ability for site creation.
Two pre-sale questions.
1) can portfolios be 4 column without text
2) can you have no text galleries link to portfolio pages instead of opening all images in a lightbox popup?
1) Yes, what you choose to show along with the thumbnail when creating a portfolio list is all in the striking shortcode -> titles, excerpt, read more etc are all customizable and optional.
2) Yes, you can have the thumbnail image link directly to the portfolio post webpage, or have it link to any other url.
The responsive version of Striking actually has 8 portfolio types (actually 9 since you can have dual linking items in the portfolio list) and portfolio flexibility is fantastic.
Ok so I’m setting up striking now. Here’s the site so far for reference: http://220.127.116.11/~fmkphoto/new/
A couple of questions for you:
1. My header (logo) is overlapping my menu items. How do I work around this? Same thing goes when I add widgets like Facebook – it puts it on top of something else around the header.
2. I thought I had a “home” button on my menu but it doesn’t seem to be there. How do I get that up there?
3. And finally – I’m trying to make my gallery pages have “manual slideshows” like seen here: http://forgetmeknottphotography.com/nature/?page_id=330
I want to to be so when you click on the image it pulls up a lightbox type of thing that you can manually scroll through. How do I achieve that in Striking?
Thank you for purchasing Striking.
We provide all theme support by way of our own support forum, as is clearly indicated in both the Support Tab above these comments, and in the Item Description. We ask that you register at the support forum, and ask your questions (1 question per thread please) and support team members will assist you.\
I will advise that for your first question, go to the Striking General Panel, and the first setting is to adjust the Header Height. So make your header taller.
We will follow for your other questions at the support forum.
I would also suggest that if you are just starting to build out your website now, that you jump right away to Striking Responsive, which is a free upgrade for license holders. The first “announcement” thread on the forum on the responsive beta has the link to where you can download it.
Thank you and Best Regards
Oh will do. Thanks
I cant seem to find the license key so I can upgrade to the latest version of the theme…
nevermind…chrome wasnt letting that menu pop up on themeforest
I really want to buy this item, but my clients uses IE 7, 8 version.
I have experienced some compatibility mode problems in IE from other themes. I want to know it is have or not!
When I open this Demo site in IE8, in portfolios menu, I switch it “Portfolio 4 Columns”, all photos are not look and just loading. I turn off the compatibility mode and it looks well.
Do you have any solutions for it except changing the compatibility mode in users computer? As you know, it’s not easy to notice to all people to change it! Thanks!
Thank you for your inquiry into Striking.
To the best of our knowledge, if one uses ie7, ie8, ie9 or ie10, then the site shows fine. We have computers set up with each, and all functions seem to be displaying correctly.
Sometimes compatibility mode distorts matters as it appears the emulation script is not perfect. There is nothing we can do about this. In the true browsers, they should be fine. We have css files for ie 6, 7, and 8. Should someone find a display issue, in the actual browser, not display mode, we would attempt to correct it.
Themeforest has dropped requirements for IE6-8 support quite some time ago. Only 0.6% of browser activity is IE7, and only 4.8% of browser activity is IE8 (and that is declining at the rate of about 0.2 per month) so it is a difficult requirement to understand of a client.
Thank you for your kindful reply! I really likes this item and really want to buy. As you said, few themes only supports under IE8, but you do. It’s great! In my country, many people using under IE8, even in some of governmental organization. I can’t understand but we are! So I have to consider it very siriouly.
As I said, I failed one time with another theme already because of compatibility mode on and off, so I’m so timid now.
1. I want to show it and ask to you!
My friend buy this theme and make his site for his client.
It looks well in compatibility on mode like this:
But your Demo site looks like this in the same condition!
That is why I can’t buy your item yet.
I asked him but he didn’t know about the compatibility mode problems. So strange.
2. One more question.
In your Demo site, the menu’s font is so beautiful. Is this image button file or we can use this font when I buy this theme?
I would appreciate you reply for me about these. Thank you so much!
I am failing to understand the compatibility mode issue. Simply don’t use it. View the site in ie8 and it is fine. It views fine in ie7 as well, and I think even in Ie 6. We certify for the actual browsers, not for compatibility mode, which has many issues. I look at that same page in actual ie8 on an xp machine, and it is fine, so I do not know what else to say to you.
The font is part of the theme. We supply 45 cufon fonts, 45 fontface fonts, and over 700 google fonts.
Oh I’m sorry to hear you. I know it’s simple if we don’t use it.
But I just finding theme that has no problem in compatibility “on” mode, because in my area many people using internet in IE compatibility “on” mode. As you know, it’s hard to notice to many people for changing their computer browser mode.
I just want to say the same compatibility “on” mode, the same theme site, the same coding page looks differently. And I think your theme could have solution about it! (My computer has IE8 and it is actual browser, and when I install it, it was in compatibility “on” mode. It means the people who are using IE could have same problem in my area)
I don’t know about the browsers in fact, I’m not an programmer, just a graphic designer.
If your theme has no solution about the compatibility mode, I have to give it up and find another thing though I really want to yours because my client want it looks well in every situation!
Thanks for your fast and kind reply even weekend, and my English is bad. I want to use it the next chance. Have wonderful weekend!
I am still not quite getting it, but I have earmarked compatibility mode for ie 8 for future study. We realize a small percentage of users are still on IE8 for one reason or another, and of course, optimally we would like everyone to be successful with our theme. We even have coding right back to ie6 in the theme!
Thanks for the consideration. Best Regards!
