how activate the buttons of social media?

onioneye

Hi there,

thank you for your purchase! Appreciate it. :)

As far as your question goes, you can fill in the links for your social networks in the theme options, which are found under the Appearance -> Customize tab of your WordPress admin panel.

By the way, please have in mind that this section is used only for pre-purchase inquiries, so if you have anymore support-related questions, or issues, please post them at http://onioneye.ticksy.com/, the official support forum for my themes. Thank you.

Very unique!! Awesome design! I have few questions before I go ahead and buy this theme. This will be my personal portfolio website.

1. Can I add filtering to the portfolio homepage? 2. Can I add password protection to certain portfolio items? 3. Can I add a pricing option, purchase cart etc to the theme as well? 4. Since I’ll be using a ton of thumnails on the main page, will this slow it down? Whats the limit?

Thank you for creating this unique theme. It was a refresher!!

onioneye

Hi there,

glad you like the theme so much! I do strive for uniqueness, so it’s nice to see that’s noticed and appreciated.

Regarding your questions:

1) The “animatable filter”, like you so in my other themes, isn’t available out of the box, but you can easily sort out the portfolio the standard WordPress way, by categorizing it(Print/Graphic/Stills/Video etc.), end then putting the categories in the menu on the left. For example, check out the “sample category” menu item in the demo theme, to see how this would look.

2) Yes, password protection is supported.

3) The theme is mainly a portfolio theme, and not an e-commerce one, but WordPress is full of excellent plugins that can transform a theme into anything you want, so you can probably make this work without breaking a sweat.

4)One of the strongest selling points of the theme is that it is carefully optimized for speed. However, there is no limit on how many items you can put on the portfolio page, so putting a huge number, like 200, for example, will definitely slow the website down. Somewhere around 50 items would still be less than 2MB in size, so I would say that 70 is a good number.

That’s it; hope this helps! Have fun working with the theme, if you end up buying it! :)

Sincerely,

I like the folding effect of the grid boxes on frontpage. How is this achieved? Is it a script you did only for this theme? Or is it pure css? The effect doesn´t work on the iPad.

Thanks in advance, Bernhard

onioneye

Hi Bernhard,

the effect is pure CSS, made only for this theme. It doesn’t work on the iPad, or any other touch device because it activates on hover, and as such, it requires a pointing (graphical input) device; in other words, a mouse, to work.

If I made the effect work on touch devices as well, you would have to tap the thumbnail once to see the effect, and then one more time to go through to the portfolio post, which would be counter intuitive, and against the basic principles of web usability. That’s why these sort of effects should never work on mobile devices; they are only meant for desktop devices instead.

Sincerely,

OnionEye

Hi OnionEye, very good answer! I agree with your reasoning. :-) Would you allow me though to use the effect in a site with another theme? I would buy your theme of course. Regards, Bernhard

onioneye

Hi Bernhard,

thanks! Glad you agree. :)

No worries about using the effect on another site. If you obtain the Tao’s licence (purchase the theme), then you are free to do so.

Sincerely,

OnionEye

hiegl

Hopefully you could help me with this. I would also try to experiment with the modification to have the double tapping, you mentioned, if this is easy to achieve. I plan to use it in a special scenario, where usability concerns are not a problem.

onioneye

Hi there,

I can point you to the parts of the code where the thumbnails are generated and styled, but I unfortunately can not write any code for you. You have to make that final leap on your own.

Having double tapping on touch devices shouldn’t be a problem; it should only involve removing a class of ”.no-touch”, from the CSS.

Hello. Wonderful theme but I’ve seen the menu after 5 minutes! Is it possible to write “menu” instead of the icon? There is also some problem on Anroid phone: when scrolling only the text are moving.

congratulation!

onioneye

Hi there,

glad you find the theme wonderful! Thank you for taking it into consideration.

Sorry to hear it took you such a long time to find the navigation. Can you tell me which browser, and what device you used, when you weren’t able to pick up on the menu? Was it your android phone, or a desktop device?

You can certainly have an icon that says “menu”, on the left hand side of your site. It would only involve a few lines of CSS code modification. Anyone with the most basic knowledge of CSS should be able to do it.

Sincerely,

OnionEye

Default-user

Hello. It was on My 24” desktop screen on Firefox. Just a “Menu” text will definetly help I think. For my navigation problem it was on a ANDROID phone.

onioneye

Ah, no wonder; it’s a pretty big screen. The menu text can’t quite fit in, if you do not make some slight changes to the CSS. However, I think I have a better idea; how about increasing the contrast between the main background, and the background of the menu trigger? That means that the clickable/hoverable menu trigger area would be dark, which in turn means that it would make it virtually impossible for your users to miss out on the menu. I can help you with that.

Regarding the Android device, can I know which browser you are using on it?

Sincerely,

OnionEye

Default-user

increase the contrast is a good idea but i think I will also change the icon. For android, it’s google chrome. Thank you!

onioneye

Good idea! When it comes to android, I still do not have an idea what exactly is happening, without having a look at it, or at least taking a look at a screenshot of the website. I will make sure I inspect it though, when I get my hands on an android device.

I wonder if you have a QuckStart package so one could install a copy just like the demo shows, to easily identify each component. Thank you!!

Is there a way to make the menu more visible?

onioneye

Of course! Making its background much darker should do the thing. That would only require a single line of CSS code customization. Easy peasy.

Hello, pre-sale question, this theme are compatible with WPML plugin?

thanks, Fabrice

onioneye

Hi there,

thank you for taking the theme into consideration!

As far as your question goes, the WPML WordPress plugin is a premium plugin, so I unfortunately don’t have access to it, in order to tell if it is fully compatible with the Tao theme, or not. However, I do not find a single reason why it wouldn’t be, so I guess it is safe to presume it is.

Have fun working with the theme, if you end up buying! :)

Hi There, just a quick question.

Are the number of tiles variable? Can I for example choose for only 4 thumbs on the homepage? And can I link them to any page I want or only portfolio items?

The thumbs are now black/white – when using my own thumbs, are those another color, of is there a sort of layer over it?

Please let me know.

onioneye

Hi there,

thank you for taking the theme into consideration!

Regarding your questions:

1) Of course. You can have any number of portfolio items on the portfolio page.

2) You can link the item to any page on the Internet, with the following plugin, which is fully compatible with the Tao theme: http://wordpress.org/plugins/page-links-to/

3) The are no layers over the thumbnails; the original images are also black and white, which means that if you put a colored image in there, it will display as such.

Have fun working with the Tao theme, if you end up buying it! :)

Hi OnionEye,

Many thanks for your quick reply, and your tip about the plugin. So If I want to let the portfolio item link to the “about us” or “our services” page. Then, this shouldn’t be a problem?

Another question (I promise, last one..) – the 3 columns on “our services”, is that optional, can that be 1, 4 or 2 columns?

Many thanks again, you’ll be my hero!

Greets, Robin

onioneye

Hi Robin,

no problem!

Regarding your latest set of questions:

1) Yes, you would just copy the permalink to the about page, for example, and insert it into one of the options offered in the portfolio item, that you want to link to that page. Easy peasy.

2) For sure! You can virtually have any number of columns there, by utilizing the easy to use “Pick n’ Click” interface for columns.

Hope this helps!

Hey!

I am interested in buying your theme. Is it possible to deactive the folding effect of the boxes on the frontpage? Are there any other effects I could use?

Greets, Norman

onioneye

Hi Norman

thank you for taking the theme into consideration!

To answer your questions:

1) Sure thing; that’s easy. I can help you with that.

2) There are no other effect available out of the box, which means you would have to make them yourself, or hire somebody to do it for you. Anyone with a bit of CSS knowledge can do it though!

Have fun working with the theme, if you end up buying it! :)

Hey!

Thanks for your reply.

Is it just a simple CSS3-Effect or does it use an JavaScript? Unfortunately I am not that fit in coding. I am just knowing the early basics of HTML and CSS ;)

Hi Norman,

you are very much welcome.

As far as your latest question goes, the effect is made out of pure CSS; no JavaScript is involved. :)

Hey!

I just bought your excellent theme. GREAT! :)

But there’s one problem…I would like to translate my site into German. So I installed “CodeStyling Localization” and it comes with an error in your “Portfolio Content” plugin: ‘The author uses ‘load_textdomain’ instead of ‘load_plugin_textdomain’... so your theme cannot work in German language.

Do you have any workaround for me?

How to create like simple category link that you show in your preview site with selected portfolio items.

onioneye

Hi there,

if you already created and assigned the categories to the portfolio items, just like described in the theme’s documentation, then you can easily add them to your menu from the “Portfolio Categories” dropdown box, which appears on the Appearance -> Menus tab of your WordPress admin panel.

Hi there,

no worries. You are just trying to install the theme improperly. You need to unzip the file you downloaded and upload the theme found inside it.

Please read the theme’s documentation for further details on the matter. The documentation is found within the main folder, which you got, when you bought the theme.

Hi,

This is so beautiful! Great job :)

I am really interested in buying it as a replacement to Yin and Yang (which I already own). Will the process of changing themes (From Yin and Yang to Tao) cause problems?

Also, is it possible to add social media share icons to individual portfolio pages? For example, visitors will be able to directly share the specific portfolio piece via Facebook.

Thank you so much!

onioneye

Hi there,

thank you for the wonderful compliment about the theme, and for being a loyal customer! Appreciate it. :)

To answer your questions:

1) You shouldn’t have any big problems when transitioning to a new theme. You will of course be required to set a few options, like your logo, the tagline, and the menu, but that should be ultimately easy.

The only thing that is really different is the way the Tao theme handles images in the portfolio, which means that you are going to have to reselect them for your portfolio items, but that should be easy as well because adding images is much, much more easier in the new, Tao theme.

2) Sure thing! WordPress is full of excellent plugins made for the purpose of adding sharing buttons, so you shouldn’t have any problems with this.

Have fun working with the Tao theme, if you end up buying it!

Great theme. Two questions before purchase: 1: Can i set another page with slider as a homepage or its not possible. 2: Can i have both images and videos with description as a portfolio item?

onioneye

Hi there,

glad you find the theme great! Thanks for taking it into consideration!

To answer your questions:

1) You can have any page as your homepage, and put in a slider anywhere you please in the content of that page.

2) Most certainly. You can have any number of images and videos in a single post, including any quantity of text description in there.

As you can see, I’ve really made sure that Tao is as flexible as I could make it to be.

Have fun working with the theme, if you end up buying it! :)

I really want to buy this theme, but nowadays a lot of people are accessing websites on mobile devices (ipad/iphone). How much would i have to pay to have that integrated?

Default-user

Just remembered that the newer devices support html5, will test this at work, since i work in an environment full of mobile devices :D

Default-user

I don’t know if you know but, when you view the live preview with Internet Explorer 11, it crashes. I don’t know why? Does IE11 not support CSS3? Wth? Please fix this issue so i can buy it without any regret :D

onioneye

Hi there,

thank you for taking an interest in the theme!

Regarding your first comment, the theme is fully retina & responsive, which makes it perfectly compatible with mobile devices such as iPhones and iPads, so no worries about this!

When it comes to Internet Explorer 11, it is still in preview/beta mode, which means it is not a finished product, and that it is still relatively “full” of bugs. That said, this is not a problem with my theme, but a problem with that browser, which is still in beta mode, and you can’t really judge sites by using a browser which is not even on the market yet.

Have fun working with the theme, if you end up buying it! :)

Sincerely,

OnionEye

Default-user

Yep, tested it today at work, works fine. I have Windows 8.1 and IE 11 it’s official (don’t know if it’s beta or not though).

onioneye

Great. Regarding IE11, I will try to get my hands on it over the weekend, and test the site in it.

Nice Theme. It took me a few minutes to realize the Navigation was hidden on the side….it there an option to expose the Nav in a more traditional method? Thank you.

onioneye

Hi there,

glad you like the theme! Thank you for taking it into consideration!

As far as your question goes, the mentioned option is unfortunately not available straight out of the box, which means that it would take some development work from you to make the menu appear in a more traditional way, but that shouldn’t be a tough job at all for a developer.

There is another option though. You can increase the contrast between the menu trigger area, and the background, to a level where it wouldn’t go unnoticed by any of your users. I can help you with that, if you end up buying the theme.

I wish you the best of luck whatever you decide to do! :)

Hello Onion,

Haven’t purchased this theme yet (owner of Ying&Yang). I wanted to know if this designs adapts to different formats (Tablet,Smartphone). Also, once you open on of the gallery elements, is it possible to add a little cross to close and go back to the gallery instead of having to click on the logo or side menu ?

Thank you,

A.

onioneye

Hi there,

thank you for purchasing one of my other themes in the past, and for taking an interest in the Tao theme!

To answer your questions:

1) The Tao theme is fully retina & responsive, which means it is perfectly compatible with tablets & smartphones, so no worries about this.

2) Having this little cross that you mention is certainly possible, but since it is not available out of the box, some development work is required of you. Should be a very simple task for a freelancer.

Have fun working with the theme, if you end up buying it! :)
