This is a super nice theme. I almost wish I ran a news site just so I could use it. Just need to find a newspaper client…

one more question :) can you archive the page somewhere such as this newsletter would be for march what about when we are june . I know it might be stupid to ask but im new

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

This theme isn’t really built to be used as a newsletter. There is a sitemap feature that shows archives by month/year, though. You can see that here: http://themes.themolitor.com/dailypress/sitemap/

Thanks!

Wonderful theme Chris, super thought out – been looking for something like this for months, but any chance of it being upgraded so it is Responsive? Think that’d make it hands-down the best news theme out there.

theMOLITOR

Thanks!

The main reason I decided to not do a fully responsive theme was mainly because of two reasons:

1. Ads. On fully responsive themes, the advertising tends to get taken out or displayed at the very bottom of the page or something like that. When an organization depends on advertising as its main source of revenue, then this is a bad proposition for advertisers.

2. iPhone/iPad “reader” button. When you’re on a single article page, the iPhone/iPad has a “reader” button that shows the article in a super easy to read way, where the article is front and center. On a site like this where the main focus is the content, this is probably a better way to read than using the responsive method.

These are all just my opinions of course, but that was my though process.

Thanks!

Thanks Chris, makes sense – I’ll chat to my client.

Just to help demonstrate how nice the “reader” button is, I posted example images on the item details page…

I have a few wishes for the category on main page widget>

1) The possibility to pick how many articles to display on the post list to the right of the main post, and:

2) The possibility to skip posts. Like.. skip the one (-1) or two (-2) most recent posts in that category.

3) Make that whole area widgetable. Like, let me decide to use the built in category listing style, or fill it with widgets of my own choice.

And 4), to make the front page less “static”: Make it possible to decide ti have the post list on the left or right of the main post. That way the different category postings can alternate and make the front page feel a bit more alive.

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

1) This is mainly a layout and technology limitation. If there were more than 8 posts, visually the layout wouldn’t look very nice. Additionally, the slider system being used requires a set height for those sections.

2) This is good feedback. I’ll look into this to see if it’s a reasonable addition.

3) Gotcha. Just a full widget home page option? I’ll look into that.

4) That’s really good feedback actually! Might have to work that one in there.

Thanks! :-D

I think the one thing missing from this theme is a full-width page template option. The small content area just isn’t sufficient if you want to display a gallery, for example.

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

Thanks for purchasing! That’s a great point. I’ll be sure to add a full width option in the next update. I didn’t think it would be good for reading (and advertising), but you make an excellent point for galleries!

Thanks for the feedback!

How many ads can I display on the homepage and articles? Would it be possible for the ads to rotate on refresh? Thank you!

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

There are 2 designated ad spaces (top & bottom), but you can put as many ads as you want in the two columns. The columns are just widgets, so I’m sure there is a plugin that will allow you to rotate content on refresh. I’m not sure though.

You can submit a customization request here: http://themolitor.com/custom – if you want to explore implementing more built-in features for the designated advertising space(s).

Hope that helps!

Really nice theme! Is it possible to import different RSS -Feeds for every Category?

theMOLITOR

Thanks!

Each category has its own RSS feed URL , but the category pages and home page list of articles must be created from the WordPress installation you’re using to populate that space.

In the demo, only the RSS widget is importing content from an RSS feed.

Hope that answers your question!

Chris

iAndy

Would it be hard to code that function? That would be awesome… :)

theMOLITOR

I’m sure there is a plugin out there already. If not, you can submit a request here: http://themolitor.com/custom

is there an archive feature, someway to keep the march newsletter and make a new one every month , probably not because it is dynamic just thought i would ask

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

Your best bet is to just manually create a newsletter archive page and update the links. Since WordPress doesn’t have any knowledge of your newsletter, there isn’t a way that I know of to connect the two.

Thanks!

First of all, this is a great theme, this will sell really lot!

Right know I have gadgetine theme, but I am really thinking switching to this theme!

Things might be better 1-homepage search button a bit confusing, I wish there is also suggestion for keywords option. 2- big slideshow of recent posts in the homepage because this is also a news site like slidedeck smart for wordpress 3-related posts in the center sidebar for post (like youtube) 4-top menu is not clear, slides are a bit confusing for reader, having also posts in the top menu categories whould be great like ones in the businessinsider.com 5-full width (1000px) pages is missing 6-I couldn’t see localization .po files option in the features list.

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

Thanks for your nice remarks!

1. That is the default WordPress search feature. You might have some luck with plugins that add additional functionality.

2. I intentionally avoided a big slideshow. If you visit any major reputable newspaper website, none of them have a slideshow. It doesn’t encourage visitors to read the excerpts if they rotate, etc. That said, there are a ton of slider plugins out there. I know CodeCanyon has a bunch.

3. This can be achieved with a plugin.

4. I’m not sure what you’re referring to here. Sorry.

5. I plan adding this in the next update (free with purchase).

6. For localization, I depend on plugins that are widely available. I know there are a few on CodeCanyon for example that add additional features than just localizing the theme.

Hope that helps!

@Turkey: it does

@ the author: why don’t you consider to make the theme adsense ready? I’ve bought it, installed but I cannot go ahead without Google adsense. Is it scheduled? I don’t use banners and so on…usually are strongly rquested, and it’s a great value add.

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

Thanks for purchasing and for the feedback! You should be able to use adsense in the widget area, but currently only images are supported in the banner area.

I’ll certainly look into making that ad space more versatile.

Thanks!

Yes, it’s important, really. I live my web-life thanks to the ADsense, and I can’t use a home without it. i’ll get your updates. Edit: at least it’s enough replace the 2 actual (one for the url, one for the img) strings with a space for HTML use.

how this theme handeles wordpress [gallery] shorcut k u let me c a demo before i purchase it also what about the color modifications ?>

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

The gallery works like a typical WordPress gallery with images displaying in a grid. The only difference is that clicking an image will display it in a pop-up window using the built-in lightbox system.

Regarding colors, you can easily customize the link color (which includes background color for links too). Anything else can be customized from the “Custom CSS ” box in the theme options panel.

Thanks!

I just rated. Also Is there any way I can make the top banner ad a bigger size?

www.premierpolitics.com

theMOLITOR

Site looks great!

There aren’t any code restrictions regarding dimensions of the ad. It’s just recommended that you keep it to a standard size. You can try different dimensions if you want. The only possible side effect would be the “advertisement” text may display differently. Let me know how it turns out.

Thanks for rating!
