Hi,

How can i add another sidebar? How can i use a fullwidth page without sidebar? How can i hide a category on category widget?

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

Those are not built-in features. Anything beyond what you see in the item description, demo site and video walk-through would be considered a customization. You can submit a request for customizations here: http://themolitor.com/custom

Thanks!

Chris

Confused. It says supports iPad & iPhone. I just checked the theme on iPad and iPhone and I see the same website layout/design as per my monitor – nothing changes, except sidebar doesn’t stick on the right, it’s just blank space there.

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

It supports the iPad & iPhone reader button. When you’re on an individual post, click the “reader” button in the address bar and you’ll see the article isolated for reading.

For users that frequent blogs or other text-heavy sites, they use this feature to focus on reading and cut out all the other junk.

Hope that explains things better!

Hello Chris,

First I would like to thanks for your wonderful Newspaper WP themes.

I just want to ask if there’s any way to rearrange the “Staff” section according their posting or arrange according to their level.

Thanks, xSchizOx

Hello Chris,

Thanks for fast reply, I have another question, I do display it on reverse, I use post_count. I want the first person in the list those who have more posts.

Thanks, xSchizOx

theme is currently broke as secondary sidebar will not/does not render correctly on some computers, no matter the browser.

i have tried to raise this issue several times on the official forum but im not getting any response and i fear its because fixing this may not be possible without significant rework.

buyer beware until this is sorted out.

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

I see you posted response to another thread on my forums, but you didn’t provide any details that we asked for. You posted an additional thread 4 hours ago with a screenshot, but I think it’s reasonable to give us more than 4 hours before you post comments like this telling potential buyers to beware. The trouble is trying to troubleshoot the issue you’re having based on the information you’re giving us (or not giving us).

Looking at the screenshot you provided on the forums, there is no space for the secondary sidebar to appear. So in that case, it is a space issue relating to the browser size and/or the resolution settings (not dimensions of the monitor, but the resolution of the monitor).

If you could provide some additional screenshots of the secondary sidebar not appearing when there is visible evidence that there is enough space, I will be happy to look into this further for you.

Keep in mind, when the secondary sidebar is turned on in the settings, there is only 1 thing that determines if it is visible or not and that 1 (read ONE ) thing is media queries. Media queries are supported in all major browsers except for IE8 and below. So make sure you’re testing this feature in the proper browser.

Hope that helps. Again, I’m here to help, so if you can provide evidence of the secondary sidebar not working when there is ample space for it, I will definitely check it out. Being as it is, I have zero evidence for the secondary sidebar not working when it should be.

Thanks!

Chris

Hi Chris,

Sorry for the tone and i replied on the support forum – but for all, looks like the secondary sidebar only works with screen resolution widths greater than 768, which is a huge problem.,

Most web users run at 1024×768. I have content i showed and promised and is expected by my customer – and now i can’t deliver.

a non media query / static version of this theme is needed urgently.

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

Couple things: The way the secondary sidebar works is (1) how this theme was built to work and (2) how this theme is advertised/marketed.

I’m very clear in my video and in the theme features that the sidebar will only display when there is enough room. A “non media query/static version” isn’t going to change this. The simple fact is that the secondary sidebar requires space for it to display. If there isn’t enough space, then well, there isn’t enough space. You would experience a horizontal scroll bar due to overflowing content. This is generally considered bad practice and is not recommended for any user that has a advertising-dependent business to have their adds appear in a space not visible by the user unless they scroll horizontally on a non-horizontally scrolling site (i.e. this site is not intentionally setup for horizontal scrolling, so users are not guided to use the site in this way).

Long story short, there are no errors with this theme as it’s built as advertised. I’m sorry you promised your client something you can’t deliver, but to be honest, that isn’t my problem (sorry to be harsh in this regard). If you need it to function in any other way than what is advertised and very clearly listed in the theme features list, you’ll have to submit a customization request here: http://themolitor.com/custom

if the above holds true can you change the widths in the code…going down a similar track as this link?

hi there. i just downloaded this theme and trying to install on wordpress. i however get the following error. Unpacking the package…

Installing the theme…

The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.

Theme install failed.

Please help

Default-user

I have followed the steps you recommend for the title however I’m getting the same response “The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet”.

Why do you think this is? Can you recommend any other suggestion I can try?

Just so you know, I can’t even get to the ACTIVATE section on wordpress. It denies uploading the ZIP file what so ever and I can see there is a style.css file.

No worries! Finally got it up! Thanks

Back at secondary side bar discussion…

Understand your perspective Chris, however I still feel you are missing the point – what is the point of having content in a secondary sidebar when it will not even show up for most users?

Again most internet users have resolutions that will not enable the display of the secondary sidebar so essentially, a best practice for anyone using or developing is to turn off the secondary sidebar to make sure all content is viewed by all users.

Basically the only reason or application for the secondary sidebar would be for using it or an internal use, such as a presentation, where the user can control the screen size, and this is not what the theme is designed for.

This is going to continue to be an issue or you with more and more people like me raising this problem.

Ive been doing more and ore research and having media queries not work at 1024×768 is not considered good practice as it does not provide compatibility with the majority of web users.

You’ve created a theme that will only work consistently, with all features, with 10% of web users.

The media queries should be scaled back to work at lower resolutions, and no, this should not be a customization or a fee or service thing. It should be in your next theme update.

I’ve said my part. I feel its important for prospective buyers to be aware but i’ll post on this no more.

Good day.

Unless you can provide evidence that this isn’t the majority of the internet, you might have a case. The fact is this is how I decided to make the theme and I was very transparent about the features and reasons why I didn’t do a fully responsive theme.

You have access to the demo site to test how it works and to make sure it performs the way you want it to.

That sample is silly. W3 visitors are likely to be developers or at least power users who certainly, on average have larger displays. Thats like going to a Coke factory and determining that since no one is drinking pepsi there that, well, people just don’t drink pepsi out in the “real world”.

I can find quantitative data to support my claim, and will provide that. But this isn’t about a stupid forum stat war.

My claim that the majority of internet users run a resolution that is less than what is required to make use of the secondary side bar is very true. You made a kick ass, tech savvy theme but, at this juncture in time, the media query constraints make it so mst wont be able to see the content.

Then again you have the conundrum of people using your theme, utilizing the SSB for content, then having that content be only being able to be viewed by every third viewer at best..its a real problem.

I have been looking at the code..i do not have your expertise by far, but is it really that difficult to change things to make more lower resolution friendly or the SSB ? There’s the print.css file, header.css, style.css and respond.min.js file that seem to be affected..and theres not a ton of code at all..you wrote it in a clean and elegant way so kudos to you…

What about the reverse approach..slightly making the main post div/wrap and the primary div/wrap slightly less wide? In conjunction with header modifications that seems like not a ton of work to do?

If there is a way for your buyers to make the change you could at least say that “these three filess need to be adjusted..play with lines 35, 50, 202 and 500 in the flowing files to adjust to your liking..not asking you to make a new theme. Just a direction that we can try with your input so we dont run in circles trying to find alternatives.

I know you know this is an issue on some level.you wouldnt be following up with another post out of the blue..you’ve been thinking about ti and trying to defend your great theme. This isnt about whos right or wrong, this is about providing options to the community on a significant compatibility and user readability issue.

(1) “This report was generated 04/30/2012 based on the last 15,000 page views to each website tracked by W3Counter. W3Counter’s sample currently includes 57,177 websites.”

(2) This is how the theme was built. Intentionally and with purpose.

I don’t appreciate people making claims that something is broken or that there are major issues when there are none, so yes, you can expect that I’ll defend my position and provide evidence to justify my decisions.

So far all I’ve seen from you to justify your claim(s) is a screenshot that clearly shows there isn’t enough physical space for the secondary sidebar.

Keeping in mind that the secondary sidebar is built, with purpose, for users with larger screens, I really don’t understand why you keep pushing this.

Need a Customization?

Anything beyond what you see in the item description, demo site and video walk-through would be considered a customization. You can submit a request for customizations here: http://themolitor.com/custom

Hi, I’m by no means interested in the sidebar debate, just wanted to the size of each sidebar before I purchase the theme…reason being, I have ads and need to ensure that they will fit. If the smaller sidebar is more than 160 px in width, is it possible to make 160? I’m not asking if you can do it, but rather if it can be done in general. Thx!

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

The smaller sidebar content area is 180px wide. You can certainly make changes to the width via CSS if you want. Just keep in mind that you’ll need to adjust more items as there will be gaps if you only decrease the width of the sidebar.

For customizations, you can submit a request here if you like: http://themolitor.com/custom

Chris

There is some chance to add a forum to this theme I mean any forums plugin will be cooperate with this theme .I’m one step ready to buy this theme ,but before I will do that I want to make sure

thank you

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

I haven’t tested any forum plugins, but I’m not aware of any reason why there should be a problem.

Thanks!

Chris

I would like to buy this theme but i think is too white.. Can I change font and color on the words? And i think i would like to remove those borders between widgets and contain, can i do this? And what others change can i make?

PS. I don’t wanna pay for help on customization..

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

All that is controlled via CSS . If you know CSS you can easily make edits in the “Custom CSS ” section of the theme options panel. If you’re not comfortable with CSS , you will need to submit a request here: http://themolitor.com/custom

Thanks!

In this demo theme i see sign up newsletter form in right side but my purchased theme haven’t find this feature.. i figure out bit they use contact form 7 but i don’t know how to convert contact form 7 in double opt newsletter form.

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

The demo site is using the shortcode provided by Contact Form 7 in a text widget to generate an email form. A fully functioning newsletter system is not something included with this theme (i.e. not mentioned anywhere). There are too many services out there that are far better for newsletter tracking/creation that to include one in this theme wouldn’t be worth it.

Thanks!

Hi, I recently lost my site so I have to restart my whole Wordpress. I remember when I last downloaded it it had a ZIP inside the initial ZIP from the download (it’s also in the video walkthrough). But when downloaded it from Themeforest just now the ZIP inside the ZIP isn’t there. What should I do?

Thank You
