Discussion on The Kitchen Table: Responsive Recipes WP Theme

75 comments found

Hi there, Please, some pre-sales details:

1. All the recipe details, like servings and time, are a theme feature or is a plugin? 2. Ingredients can be pre-defined in a list and chosen when posting the recipe or they need to be written by hand for every recipe? 3. Can taxonomies be combined (like “display all desserts with choclolate”)?

Thanks and regards, Alex,

Hi there,

1. All recipe details are a built-in theme feature. 2. Ingredients need to be entered in the post content area. 3. WordPress tag pages currently don’t provide that feature, but you might be able to add that functionality with a plugin.

Hope that helps!

Best,

Chris

Hi there, Please, some pre-sales questions:

1. Possible menu -> sub item -> sub item? example: Main dish -> Chicken -> Grilled Chicken

Thanks. Best regards Sky

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

There are no limits to the number of sub menu items you can have :-)

Chris, How about menu – sub menu – sub sub menu? Thanks

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

Yes. Sorry if that wasn’t clear.

Hi Molitor,
I need a site that hosts many video clips that are sorted by various tags and categories, to be used by educational professionals for research purposes. The way your theme cleanly organizes large groups of content seems perfect for us, but I had a couple questions before purchasing;
Is it simple enough to change out the large images for videos?
Also, Do you know of any compatibility issues with plugins such as Gravity Forms or various WPMU Dev plugins like Membership?
Thanks for your time!

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

1. The image gallery is not currently setup to display videos in that space. The theme automatically looks for images attached to the post and displays them there. You can easily post videos in the post content area using embed codes, though.

2. As long as the plugin doesn’t require a specific custom template to be created for the plugin, you shouldn’t have any issues.

Hope that helps!

Best,

Chris

Chris, a presale question please,

I’m a bit of a novice so some of the questions and answers were not clear to me. Is there a feature that provides readers with a template or format if they want to submit a recipe to us within the theme Table Kitchen (which really seems very nice and inclusive of so many options I have yet to learn or understand). Thank you. Chris

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

Yes. The Kitchen Table comes with a page template called “Submission Form”. Users can submit a recipe from this page that automatically creates a post in “pending” status so that administrators can review the item before it appears on the site. An email notice is sent to the admin each time a form is successfully submitted.

All the fields in the form automatically populate the necessary fields on the post screen, so you can simply click “publish” if you want to have the recipe appear on the site.

Chris

Chris, please help. I purchased the Kitchen Table Theme and when I went to upload the zip file to my word press (which I tried twice and got this same response):

Unpacking the package…

Installing the theme…

The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.

Theme install failed. Thank you, Chris

Can you please help with this.

Chris, I did figure it out but when it shows up on my wordpress with the other themes, it doesn’t show an “Activate” button at the bottom like the others – did I do something wrong? Chris

Hi, wondering if I could add pictures between directions?

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

Sorry, I don’t understand what you mean by “add pictures between directions”. Could you provide more details about this?

Best,

Chris

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

Another user helped me understand what you were asking. Yes, the directions are entirely controlled from the content box, so you can split them up however you like. Example: http://tinyurl.com/pv35hs5

Hi i really like this theme and i am ready to buy, but i havea few questions. 1. Same question as @Imagecooking, can we add images between the directions so people see an image of every cooking step ? 2. The recipe submission form doesnt show the al the fields like “Ingridients and Directions” ?

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

Thanks for your interest in The Kitchen Table!

1. Yes, the directions are entirely controlled from the content box, so you can split them up however you like. Example: http://tinyurl.com/pv35hs5

2. Users are suppose to enter that information in the “Recipe Details” box.

Hope that helps!

Ah ok, i think i have missed that on the form, thx!

Hi ,does it support RTL now , if not how i can check the theme with arabic letters before buying?

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

The theme is localized (translation ready), but currently only an LTR-based stylesheet is included with the theme.

Chris

In checklist, is there a way to delete the ingredients checked instead of strikethrough text? Thank you. Great theme!

C.

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

Thanks for purchasing!

That’s totally possible, but would require some custom development to achieve.

You’re welcome to submit a customization request here: http://themolitor.com/custom

I am very interested in purchasing this theme however it does not seem like this theme has a mobile version. Does The Kitchen Table theme have a built in mobile version?

Thank you!

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

“Responsive” is the new way of saying “Mobile Friendly” :-)

Hi, Is it possible to remove one or both sidebars?

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

It’s definitely possible, but requires custom development to achieve. For change like this, please submit a request here: http://themolitor.com/customization-request

Ok, to what extent can I customize the content and layout of the two sidebars on my own?

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

The sidebars are 100% in your control via widgets.

Hi there, pre sale questions. I’m evaluating to buy this theme as it is clean and very well designed to be browsed by the user. I have some questions: 1) At the moment I’m using ziplist as a plugin to upload/write recipes, is this theme compatible with other recipe plugins? 2) is the header customizable, and what are the possible customizations? i.e. I need the logo but also the site title and site description to appear; the image background could be substituted by a flat color bg… 3) is there a way for users to rate the recipes? (sorry, I didn’t find it…) Thank you Elisa

theMOLITOR

Hi there,

Thanks for your interest in The Kitchen Table!

1. I haven’t used/tested any recipe plugins with this theme as it has a built-in recipe feature, so I can’t say for sure if it will work or not. That said, all plugins should work just fine provided they don’t require custom theme integration.

2. You can control the color and image of the header area as well as the logo and menu items. I go through all the theme options available in this walk-through video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLhdguXJX3w

3. Rating recipes would require either a plugin or custom development to implement. Please keep in mind customization services are available if you want to explore advanced feature integration: http://themolitor.com/customization-request

Hope that helps.

Best,

Chris
