Intriguing theme! Is the content forced into two columns on the single page or can it be a single wide column as well?

To answer your question: yes and no. Depending on the browser window, the content will be in either a single or double column. The reason being it’s considered bad practice to have more than 13-15 words per line when reading. If the content were in a single column at the max width, readability would be very poor.
I was thinking more about the feasibility of adding full width responsive images
Gotcha. You can have a full width featured image (above the title), but I wouldn’t recommend it in the actual content as the layout is geared towards heavy text-based posts.
