Great theme Brandon. One question:

The PaintSplatter style it’s not available on my “Design Settings” panel. Can you solve this, please?

MDNW Author

Absolutely – I’m planning on adding a few extras myself – all you need to do is:

  1. Create the Cufon font file
  2. Upload it to the JS folder of the theme
  3. Reference it in the header.php (ref the file, and then ref the font-face in the activate lines)

Cheers! Brandon

Just an update – if ya send me an email I’ll send you the PaintSplatter skin :) This is gonna be the best distribution method until I figure out a better way to install child-skins.

Brandon, another thing. The cufon script is not applied in the navigation menu. See it yourself: http://www.josenoguera.es/

Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience

Greetings! Great theme, I’m enjoying working with it.

Except… I can’t get Page Links to show up in the top Navigation (same line as the social media icons). I’ve set up dozens of themes and not run into this before.

I scoured the documentation to make sure I’m not missing something and made sure I don’t have anything wonky happening in my settings, but clearly I’m missing something. I’d appreciate any help you can give.

Many thanks, Stacey

Appearance > Menus ;)

Brandon

Nevermind, sorry… found my answer in one of the videos. I’m good!

May be helpful to mention the use of the menus tab in print as well as in video… or you can just let morons like me stumble onto the info in video form. :)

Thanks! Stacey

No worries Stacey – I’ll make a bigger point of it in the manual to avoid any confusion :)

Last question, slightly off topic, no rush…

Can you tell me where to purchase/download the extended Mido font? It looks so nice in the titles that I’d love to have it match exactly in design with all the symbols handy.

Thanks again! SL

Heya Stacey,

I actually created it myself! I got so frustrated with Mido not having the extra characters that I just added them into the font-file myself. I’m actually not sure about the legalities of this, which is why I’m not heavily advertising the custom work, but if you drop me an email at brandon.r.jones@gmail.com, I wouldn’t mind sending you the file (since the original is GPL after all).

Cheers! Brandon

Hi there

Nice theme I am thinking of purchasing, one question are threaded comments supported? only I don’t see them in the demo.

Thanks

It’s not ready quite yet (I’m still tweaking some style attributes before I turn it on completely). It’ll be in the 1.1 update early next week though as a simple update to the comments.php file :)

Would be nice to work in script enqueuing for the header instead of just the raw script ags if possible sometime. Would help alot with compatibility

MDNW
MDNW Author

Sure thing – I’ll add it to the 1.1 updates list. Thanks for the feedback :)

Brandon

A very nice theme. The only problem I have had is with the logo PSD file, it doesn’t seem to be editable at all (which is a shame because it’s a great logo).

Five out of five stars.

MDNW
MDNW Author

I can send it to ya if you wish – I figured most people would simply replace it with their own so I didn’t bother with raising the file size by including the layers – just shoot me an email at brandon.r.jones@gmail.com and I can send it over :)

Theoneisis

I actually bought the theme specifically because I liked the logo so much :) I have NO artistic capability I’m afraid and this would be perfect for my copywriting business.

Thanks and email enroute to you.

Quick question. When I turn on the Cufon Font replacement it works for everything except for the menu. That seems to stay system font. Any thoughts on this?

Thank you

Heya 24 – I noticed this same thing on a few test-runs of the theme – it’s a super duper strange problem and it seems to only happen once in a long while. The fix is pretty simple, but amounts to banging on an old arcade machine until it works or blowing on a nintendo cartridge (haha):

http://pastie.org/1194635

As soon as I figure out what’s causing the funky loading on occasion I’ll post a smoother fix. What’s strange is that it doesn’t happen all the time… so it seems to be tied to each individual installation. Either way, I’ll be sure to stay on top of this little bug.

Anytime!

nice work – honestly i don’t think it’s similar to Atlantica, but it’s your main style on designing a theme. this theme is more like an evolution of your design and revolution of your coding.

love how you handled the detail, really professional, hope i can become someone like you in the future. :)

Brandon,

I can’t seem to find the shortcode for the standard block quote. I’ve tried [blockquote] and a bunch of variations … no luck.

Any chance you could post what it is, please?

Thanks

MDNW

Sure! It’s just the standard blockquote in the HTML mode with <> around it instead of square brackets []. :)

Theoneisis

That worked – thank you.

Hi,

Cool theme. When I am trying to import the placeholder content it never fully completes the import it always gets stuck on

36. Importing attachment http://themeology.makedesignnotwar.com/themes/wp/mu/wpmu/files/2010/04/example01.jpg…

anything I can do?

MDNW
MDNW Author

Hmmm – the only thing I can imagine this being attached to is if your server has certain upload limits – for instance, my server won’t allow more than 2MB to be imported to Wordpress through the automatic method.

The good news is that it’s not really mandatory that you use the “placeholder” content – it’s just there for people to see how the demo was setup – everything is reviewed in the documentation and screencasts though, so if you don’t want to delve into setting a higher limit through .htaccess, you can just go without the placeholder stuff :)

Just holler if you have any questions.

Brandon

It’s officially “pepper Brandon with questions day” today.

I have two minor problems that I’m hoping you can help me with Brandon.

1. Since installing the theme the area where I enter text in “posts” and “pages” is now gray, which makes it kind of hard to see what I am typing. I’m using the TinyMCE addon for text, I don’t know if there might be some kind of conflict there?

2. This is the annoying one – when I first load my frontpage, the Nivo slider works perfectly BUT if I navigate away from that page to any other page in my site or if I hit refresh, instead of transitioning with effects, each image now just appears – no effect. Good grief that was a long sentence.

Any ideas?

Hi there!

1. This is really strange… any chance you can post a screenshot as well as what version you’re using. There’s no really good reason for why this theme would restyle your backend anywhere besides the main admin panel but I’ll be glad to check it out. It certainly could be a conflict with another plugin…

2. Hmmm – what animation effect do you have selected on the backend? I haven’t really encountered this problem myself, so the only thing I can imagine is that if you have “random” set, perhaps it’s just using another of the various effect styles.

Hope that helps! Brandon

Theoneisis

Brandon,

Thanks for responding. The TinyMCE Advanced plugin is version 3.2.7 – here’s a screen capture http://imgur.com/ofSC4.png

Regarding the transition animation, yes, I do have random selected. I changed it to a single transition type to see if anything changed but I still have the same problem (my url is www.copywriternow.com)

Thanks for your time.

Hi Theo -

Thanks for hanging tight over the weekend :)

It sounds like this was solved down below… so I’ll leave this be for now.

Forgot to say that I deactivated TinyMCE and the problem with the gray went away.

Hi Brandon, I posted on here a few days ago but it may have went un-noticed. I have 2 questions: 1.) Is there an easy explanation as to how I might resize the slider to incorporate different size photos? I have some basic HTML knowledge but I am actively learning more. Are the necessary adjustments in one area of the css, or is it scattered in a few different places?

2.) Also, I’m trying to incorporate the prettyPhoto plugin into a Page designed to be a gallery of photos? I’m concerned as to what is the best method for creating a gallery like this? Upload photos to my server and add links to each one of them, or use the gallery feature in WP?

If these questions would be better asked in the wordpress forum, I understand. I’m just trying to get a better grasp of these things.

I appreciate any help you can provide, either with answers or links to the answers.

Heya Caka,

Sorry for the missed questions – it’s been a busy week so far :)

1. There’s no “easy” explanation for this – you’d essentially need to adjust the CSS – you can use the Firebug plugin to help out, but you’ll mainly be working in “nivo-slider.css” (it’s a pretty short file, so it should be straight forward).

2. Are you trying to use one of the gallery templates? The Classic Gallery and FullWidth Classic Gallery both already have prettyPhoto loaded, so it shouldn’t be too tricky if you stick close to the documentation. The easiest way to upload is the basic “image uploader” inside of your page – then insert thumbnails from there :)

Cheers! Brandon

Brandon,

The Nivo SLider problem seems to have worked itself out, so no worries there.

I was wondering if you can double check that the “project_gallery_category” custom field actually filters out categories not included in the value field. I’ve been trying to get a Project Gallery page set up that shows just my recent work but it seems to just dump every post in there no matter what I put in the value field.

Thanks, and sorry to keep bothering you but I have zero programming skills.

Hi again,

Good news on the Slider :)

For the project gallery – the “project_gallery_category” has been deprecated in favor of “category_filter”. I essentially had 4 custom fields for categories in a previous version of the theme, so they might still exist in some of the placeholder content, but the “category_filter” is now the only one that is being used to simplify things.

Cheers! Brandon

Hi, I’m using this theme and I LOVE IT ! I’m not an expert at all of this stuff, just really getting the hang of all the customisations…

I had a query – On Blog Posts, is it possible to change the “ABOUT AUTHOR ” , “LEAVE A REPLY ” , or even the blog title to lower case text or does it all have to stay upper?

Thanks

MDNW
MDNW Author

Thanks Brett!

It’s really up to you – you can change it with a basic CSS rule being added to the custom CSS field in the admin panel (“Themeology”) – something like this would work:

#page h2 { text-transform: capitalize !important; }

Cheers! Brandon

Hello I just bought this wonderful theme and started working on it, works really well, but I have some questions.

1. If I use two columns on a page, and then add a function with a shortcode such as [easy-contact] inside one column it will not work, it must be outside the column, outside the square brackets [] for it to work, how can i fix it?

2. In the blog, if i do a post that includes i photo, i´m not getting any preview “thumbnail” picture to appear in the blog, it’s only the “Post Thumbnail placeholder” image that is visible, but the photo appears when i see the full post… What, do i do here?

And the blog looks the same no matter if i choose the standard template, blog grid or blog list. Feels like i must have missed something in this part…

3. If i don’t want the page “name” to appear as the main headline on certain pages, how do i solve it? I do not want “home” to appear under the slider on the startpage, is there any plugin or easy way to solve this?

And again, thanks for a good theme,, good work!!

Best regards /Fredrik

Hi Fredrik,

I’ll be happy to help out :)

1. Hmmm… this is actually a great question – let me do a little checking for ya and see if this is possible – the way it’s structured right now might prevent shortcodes inside of shortcodes, but I think I can assemble a fix that would make it more flexible.

2. Great question – you just need to set the post thumbnail (also called the “featured image”) in the right sidebar of the post. You can also set this from the post-gallery lightbox inside WP by selecting “use this as a featured image”.

2b. Are you sure you’re using the “Blog Grid” page template… I’ll do a little checking just to make sure that I didn’t make a typo on my end just to be safe, but if you have the right template selected, it should work just fine.

3. You’re actually the first to ask this, but there’s a secret custom field called “page_alt_title” – if you set it on a page or post, it’ll use that as the value for the headline instead of the default title ;) For the homepage – you can set the title for the blog-posts under “Homepage Blogspace Options” by using the first field (“Homepage Content-Header Text”).

Hi Yanguez,

Where are you running into problems? The gallery pages work pretty simply (just pick a page template and fill in the appropriate settings) – but because there are 4 different templates, it’s hard to say what you might be missing without hearing a bit more.

Also check out the documentation – there is a ton of written and video information provided to help out with this kind of setup stuff :)

And just a reminder that there is a dedicated support forum : http://support.makedesignnotwar.com

Hi Brandon,

1st I just gotta say, by far.. your attention to Customer Service is right up there and answering all of our questions quick.

I have been watching this since it was announced. But I have a few questions before I make the purchase.

- Example, once a client clicks on the recent blog that is displayed on the font page, which it will direct to the BLOG itself. Can the Blog itself be at FULL -Width?

- Is there a way for me to have the “Navigation Menus” below the slider and not on top?

- The galleries, I like the “Project Gallery Full Width” w/ the titles displays, but I really like the “Classic Gallery Full Width” but there is no title displays. I want my client to view my work, example… Fashion, Fine Art, as the title under the image, and once they click on that image it will be display just the same as with the “Class gallery, when you click on the image”

- Navigation Menus, can I add more tabs? of that is the max?

Thanks, Kris

Hi Kris,

1. Yes – it takes a small customization (which I’ve mentioned in a previous answer, I’ll try to find it), but it’s pretty easy to remove the sidebar with 2 small edits to the template code.

2. Hmm… yes, this again would take a small customization (slightly more complicated than the previous customization), but it’s certainly possible and I’d be glad to point you in the right direction.

3. This one’s simple – you don’t need to have the caption above the page, or the title if you don’t want it :)

4. You can add as many as you want so long as they fit in the space that’s there :)

Cheers! Brandon
