Themeology - Portfolio and Blog Theme

Absolutely – I’m planning on adding a few extras myself – all you need to do is:

1. Create the Cufon font file
2. Upload it to the JS folder of the theme
3. Reference it in the header.php (ref the file, and then ref the font-face in the activate lines)

I actually created it myself! I got so frustrated with Mido not having the extra characters that I just added them into the font-file myself. I’m actually not sure about the legalities of this, which is why I’m not heavily advertising the custom work, but if you drop me an email at brandon.r.jones@gmail.com, I wouldn’t mind sending you the file (since the original is GPL after all).

It’s not ready quite yet (I’m still tweaking some style attributes before I turn it on completely). It’ll be in the 1.1 update early next week though as a simple update to the comments.php file

Heya 24 – I noticed this same thing on a few test-runs of the theme – it’s a super duper strange problem and it seems to only happen once in a long while. The fix is pretty simple, but amounts to banging on an old arcade machine until it works or blowing on a nintendo cartridge (haha):

As soon as I figure out what’s causing the funky loading on occasion I’ll post a smoother fix. What’s strange is that it doesn’t happen all the time… so it seems to be tied to each individual installation. Either way, I’ll be sure to stay on top of this little bug.

Sure! It’s just the standard blockquote in the HTML mode with <> around it instead of square brackets [].

Hmmm – the only thing I can imagine this being attached to is if your server has certain upload limits – for instance, my server won’t allow more than 2MB to be imported to Wordpress through the automatic method.

The good news is that it’s not really mandatory that you use the “placeholder” content – it’s just there for people to see how the demo was setup – everything is reviewed in the documentation and screencasts though, so if you don’t want to delve into setting a higher limit through .htaccess, you can just go without the placeholder stuff

Hi there!

1. This is really strange… any chance you can post a screenshot as well as what version you’re using. There’s no really good reason for why this theme would restyle your backend anywhere besides the main admin panel but I’ll be glad to check it out. It certainly could be a conflict with another plugin…

2. Hmmm – what animation effect do you have selected on the backend? I haven’t really encountered this problem myself, so the only thing I can imagine is that if you have “random” set, perhaps it’s just using another of the various effect styles.

Regarding the transition animation, yes, I do have random selected. I changed it to a single transition type to see if anything changed but I still have the same problem (my url is www.copywriternow.com)

Sorry for the missed questions – it’s been a busy week so far

1. There’s no “easy” explanation for this – you’d essentially need to adjust the CSS – you can use the Firebug plugin to help out, but you’ll mainly be working in “nivo-slider.css” (it’s a pretty short file, so it should be straight forward).

2. Are you trying to use one of the gallery templates? The Classic Gallery and FullWidth Classic Gallery both already have prettyPhoto loaded, so it shouldn’t be too tricky if you stick close to the documentation. The easiest way to upload is the basic “image uploader” inside of your page – then insert thumbnails from there

Good news on the Slider

For the project gallery – the “project_gallery_category” has been deprecated in favor of “category_filter”. I essentially had 4 custom fields for categories in a previous version of the theme, so they might still exist in some of the placeholder content, but the “category_filter” is now the only one that is being used to simplify things.

I’ll be happy to help out

1. Hmmm… this is actually a great question – let me do a little checking for ya and see if this is possible – the way it’s structured right now might prevent shortcodes inside of shortcodes, but I think I can assemble a fix that would make it more flexible.

2. Great question – you just need to set the post thumbnail (also called the “featured image”) in the right sidebar of the post. You can also set this from the post-gallery lightbox inside WP by selecting “use this as a featured image”.

2b. Are you sure you’re using the “Blog Grid” page template… I’ll do a little checking just to make sure that I didn’t make a typo on my end just to be safe, but if you have the right template selected, it should work just fine.

3. You’re actually the first to ask this, but there’s a secret custom field called “page_alt_title” – if you set it on a page or post, it’ll use that as the value for the headline instead of the default title For the homepage – you can set the title for the blog-posts under “Homepage Blogspace Options” by using the first field (“Homepage Content-Header Text”).

Where are you running into problems? The gallery pages work pretty simply (just pick a page template and fill in the appropriate settings) – but because there are 4 different templates, it’s hard to say what you might be missing without hearing a bit more.

Also check out the documentation – there is a ton of written and video information provided to help out with this kind of setup stuff

1. Yes – it takes a small customization (which I’ve mentioned in a previous answer, I’ll try to find it), but it’s pretty easy to remove the sidebar with 2 small edits to the template code.

2. Hmm… yes, this again would take a small customization (slightly more complicated than the previous customization), but it’s certainly possible and I’d be glad to point you in the right direction.

3. This one’s simple – you don’t need to have the caption above the page, or the title if you don’t want it

4. You can add as many as you want so long as they fit in the space that’s there
