ive created a menu item called portfolio using the portfolio template. I then added sub-menus using categories, however, i cannot assign a template to the sub-menus such as ‘portfolio’, it just defaults to a blog style template.

Hello Paul,

Page templates can only be assigned to “Pages”. Categories, tags, archives, etc are not pages. So if you create a new page, say, “Portfolio sub” and assign the Portfolio template to it, it will work.

is it possible to display a secondary category menu other than a drop down from the main menu on the left column? I am creating a portfolio with sub-categories such as Branding, Photography, Packaging etc and I want a menu/navigation somewhere on the page which the user can select rather than having to go back to the main menu in the left column each time

Hello Paul,

Menu can be added using a Custom menu widget inside sidebar. But still it will appear in sidebar and not inside pages. In order to make it appear in pages, it will be required to customize theme files.

Is there a way to re-arrange the order of posts, I think it’s currently in date order but I would like to have control over the order myself.

Hello,

Order of posts can be controlled by changing the publish date of posts, or by changing the order query parameter inside portfolio or blog template. Changing query parameter will only affect templates and not archives. So you can change the post dates.

Edit any post and open the “Publish” panel. Here you can change the date of post. By default they appear in newest first order. So you can change date to older one if you want that particular post to appear in low order.

Hi Saurabh,

How do I add text in the home page side bar below the menu items. I’ve added it before though have forgotten how to do this and cant find where I added it before? Here’s my site: http://petsmartphoto.co.uk/

Many thanks

Hello Peter,

Text can be added using a Text widget inside Appearance > Widgets > Default Sidebar. It seems there is already a text widget which you can edit inside widgets section.

Hi Saurabh,

Still very happy with the theme. However, the latest update of the iThemes Security plugin seems to be conflicting. As soon as it is activated, I can’t access the dashboard anymore and have to disable the plugin via FTP. Have you heard of this issue before?

Hello Erik,

Thank you for kind words and feedback.

The dashboard error is more related to plugins and WordPress conflict. Looking at your site, I see that the WordPress version is 4.0, whereas current version is 4.1.1. May be the latest version of security plugin is not compatible with WP 4.0. So you will need to update WordPress to latest version too.

If this doesn’t work, kindly check by disabling other plugins except security plugin.

Besides this, you can update theme to latest version too. The last update was a major change in terms of responsiveness and other features.

Thanks for the swift response!

I was always a little reluctant to update WP too fast because of compatibility issues. But this might’ve been a bit too long indeed. I’m backupping right now and will update WP and theme too (I thought my theme was up-to-date but I see now I’m still on 1.2!).

I’ll let you know how it works out, many thanks!

Sure, no problem.

Hi Saurabh,

I promised to let you know: updated WordPress, installed the 1.3-version of the theme and everything works like a charm again!

Minor detail: underneath the blogs on the /weblog/-page, the ‘read more’ tag isn’t visible anymore. Not a problem, but is there an easy way to bring that back?

Furthermore: the new theme passes the Google Mobile Friendly Test. Great!

Hello Erik,

Glad to see the updated version on your site.

You can enable post meta under post snippets by navigating to Appearance > Twin Options > Blog > Hide Post Meta. If this option is disabled, uncheck the field and save the changes. After that it shall show post meta.

In post meta, date is linked to permanent post so I removed read more button. We can change that to read more again by editing some code. For that kindly send me a mail at xconsau[at]gmail[dot]com.

Hi Saurab,

Ah, I see, thanks! No, this is fine, as I said, not a big problem. I think I like the sleaker look!

No problem. :)
