Hi Saura,

Just purchased your theme today, and almost finished updating my website. Looking good, thank you!

Some things I notice:

1) If I add an image (of, say, 1024px wide) to a blog post and I ‘feature’ it, the thumb on the blog overview page is just a small corner of my photo. Is there a way to resize it? Other solution is to upload a thumbnail-size pic (250px, my estimate), but that will also be shown in a gallery then, off course. Or am I doing something wrong?

2) When using [dropcap] at the first letter of a blog post, the first letter isn’t shown on the blog overview page. Minor bug?

For the rest, great theme, the work is mainly in updating from the old one, your documentation is very clear, thanks!

SaurabhSharma

Hello ErikvanRosmalen,

Thanks for purchasing the theme and providing kind feedback.

1. It will be required to regenerate thumbnails on your site. All media images that were uploaded ‘before’ the theme was installed do not get re-sized properly. New uploaded images will appear in correct size. But for old ones, it will be required to re-generate thumbnails. After that, it will appear correctly across all sections of site. (This is also mentioned in FAQ of documentation).

2. On blog overview, we are showing excerpt of post content. WordPress excerpt trims out all HTML or Short codes, and only returns plain text. Even if you use a link on first line, it will be trimmed out. :)

Kindly let me know if you have more questions. I would be glad to help.

Hello and good morning,

Thanks for your swift reply! I must’ve missed that part about regenerating in the documentation, sorry. I thought it was part of the theme, but I’ve already downloaded and used the plugin and it works great, thanks!

About the excerpt-functionality: I thought so. I’ll use the dropcaps for my pages, no problem :-)

So far, no questions, the site is live and looks great. Many thanks!

If you’d like to see your work showing my work, check: http://www.erikvanrosmalen.com

Thanks and have a nice day!

Hello ErikvanRosmalen,

That’s nice implementation on the site. I wish you success for the site and work.

Thank you! So far I’ve received just compliments, so that’s great.

One thing I’m noticing is that the contact form can always be submitted, even when no e-mail or name are filled in. They’re not sent, but there’s no error message either. Maybe something I overlooked or did wrong when translating the messages in the php-file?

(Btw, at the moment I unfortunately only have I-Ex 8 at my disposal, that might cause the issue as well…)

SaurabhSharma

Hello ErikvanRosmalen,

The contact form uses JavaScript and php validation. If JavaScript is enabled on your browser and you click on send button without filling forms, it will show a red border across from fields. Error messages are not displayed, but only red border.

If JS is disabled, it will still show red border through php validation.

Thanks, problem was indeed caused by the browser used, on all other browsers it works just fine. Everything works fine now by the way.

Just some troubles with loading of my about-page (www.erikvanrosmalen.com/erik), takes quite long. But I think that might be caused by something else.

Again many thanks for your assistance, great work, I’m really up-to-date now!

Regards, Erik

SaurabhSharma

Hello Erik,

I just checked the page. Right now it loaded at normal speed. In source code, everything seems fine. There is no video or script which might cause this delay. If you are on shared hosting, it may work slow for WordPress sometimes.

Absolutely outstanding looking template :inlove:

Absolutely perfectly well documented, but

unfortunately extremely complicated if not even almost impossible handling :reallyevil:

Really frustrated about not being able to simply create in an easy understandable way menues and attach pictures just like that in categories.

Sorry about that, but I really love the template for it’s look but absolutely hate it at the same time for the useless handling about adding pictures.

The rest works perfectly fine but the main purpose for photographers, easily showing pictures is a pain in the neck.

SaurabhSharma

Hello renand,

Thanks for purchasing the theme. I appreciate your honest feedback (both positive and negative).

Portfolio and blog templates use WordPress featured images attached to a post. All you need is create some posts, each with a featured image, and use these posts on any of the available templates by providing a category ID.

The documentation/index.html file may be helpful in getting started, and I am sur eyou have already gone through it. If you are finding any particular difficulty in setting up a Home page or Portfolio page, kindly send me your WP login and URL at xconsau[at]gmail[dot]com. I will set up those pages.

Hi SaurabhSharma,

Great Theme! I love it!

But…. I have troubles with the gallery.

Fist of all the Homepage looks perfect! When I click on one of the photo’s a gallery will appear. This is the exact type of gallery I also want on my pages under my portofolio page (drop down menu). I don’t prefer the lay out of de blog and portfolio page. Can i turn that off ? I don’t write articles, I only want to show photo’s. The gallery on my pages look good but when I click on one of them it will enlarge on the page and I can not click to the following photo.

A other problem that I have is that when I upload photo’s in the wordpress gallery also other photo’s that I did not select will appear. How can I solve that problem?

Thx!

Regards, Rita www.ritanaborn.nl

SaurabhSharma

Hello Rita,

Thanks for the purchase and kind feedback.

Home page is using a “Portfolio” page template which shows post images in masonry grid style. Now there is a difference between images used on Home page and the ones used under Portfolio menu.

Home page images are being fetched from individual posts Whereas images on your portfolio pages are inserted using gallery short code. So if you create posts for those images, you can show those images in same way as on Home page by using the portfolio template.

Regarding photos appearing in gallery. Whenever you add a photo to a post using drag-and-drop, it is automatically attached to the post. You can unattach them by opening media library panel for that post and Choose Images ‘Uploaded to this post’. Inside this section, delete all unwanted images and close modal box.

Hi SaurabhSharma,

Still very, very happy with the theme, and receiving great feedback on my new website design, so many thanks again!

A minor problem I’m experiencing is when scheduling future blog posts. For some reason I get the error ‘Missed Schedule’. Time is stated as follows behind all my blog posts: http://pic.twitter.com/QSBV7cohnm

Pic is in dutch, but check the times all begin 16:1, 23:1, etc. I’ve tried changing time formatting, but no luck there.

Have you heard of this issue before? I’m using WP-version 3.5. I’m not sure if this can be caused by a theme or plugins, but maybe you’ve heard from other users?

Again, no major problem, but maybe it sounds familiar to you!

SaurabhSharma

Hello ErikvanRosmalen,

I haven’t came across such issue before. But I can confirm we are not overriding any such functionality inside the theme. Post publish and schedule method is entirely controlled by WordPress. No matter which theme is installed, a “published” post is treated as published, because all this data is stored in database.

You can confirm by switching the theme to twentytwelve and schedule any post. I will further search if this is related to the theme. In theme, all we are doing is simply showing the publish date in posts. I can not be sure how that affects schedule time. But I will look into it.

Regards

Default-user

Thanks SaurabhSharma,

You never hearing this before confirms for me it must be something else, not the theme. I’ll do some more research, could maybe be some plugin or something. I’ll let you know my findings as well!

Hi there,

Your design is fabulous though before purchasing I need to know the following:

1. Can a static body of text be added somewhere on the homepage via a widget or other or perhaps added to one of the image boxes? This would be essential for the site to rank well for seo.

2. Can a slider be activated when opening up images from the image boxes on the home page as well as using the arrow forward buttons?

Thanks

Does anyone have an idea if the theme is compatible with WordPress 3.5(.2) already?

SaurabhSharma

Hello ErikvanRosmalen,

Yes the theme is compatible with WordPress 3.5.2. The known issue is Twiiter widget which I have to update with new API 1.1. You can use Recent Tweets Widget if required. Kindly let me know if there is any specific issue you are facing with latest WordPress and the Theme.

And another question:

When using the same photo as a highlighted picture and added as media into the post itself, the colors tend to be very different. The highlighted picture is looking quite red compared to the other. Using Google Chrome and uploading sRGB/1024px/72dpi.

I tried to publish it privately, not sure it’s visible for you, but here goes. Check the first (highlighted) portrait and the last at the bottom of the post: http://www.erikvanrosmalen.com/2013/07/zomerse-fotoshoot-met-malon/?preview=true&preview_id=3207&preview_nonce=1422d770f8

(For all other readers: my previous question has been answered perfectly, great support!)

Sorry to bother you again, just another short question: do you have any experience in compatibility of the Twin theme and the Facebook social plugin? Adding the FB comments box works, but the comment section (theme-own comments and FB-commentbox) are placed over the highlighted image at the top, as soon as I activate the FB-plugins comment box. Looks like a css-issue. Any experience?

SaurabhSharma

Hello ErikvanRosmalen,

Thanks for the kind feedback. Kindly send me the URL of your page/post with that plugin comment box enabled. I will suggest appropriate CSS. You can email me the link at xconsau[at]gmail[dot]com.

Thanks, just e-mailed you two links. Btw, I’m using Chrome and unfortunately don’t have another browser available on this computer, I realise now it could be a browser-based problem as well…

Default-user

Just noticed it’s also crooked in IE9 and Firefox, so no browser-related issue, I guess :)

SaurabhSharma

Hello Eric,

That was a Masonry issue. I have emailed you the details.

And great help – again – from SaurabhSharma in fixing the FB-plugin comment box! Works like a charm!

Hi Saurabh,

How do I make the images bigger? it seems it doesn’t matter what size I make the file the twin template downsizes them. On your screen shot example your images are appearing larger than mine see here: www.petsmartphoto.co.uk. Please forgive the state the theme is in at the moment…its work in progress.

Thanks

SaurabhSharma

Hello Peter,

While creating a post you can choose the grid width inside Page Options Panel > Select a grid width. The default one is ‘small’ which you can change to medium or large too. After selecting the grid width, update the post. It will appear wider in portfolio template.

Hi Saurabh,

I noticed there is a area in each blog post with a profile that is blank of a headshot. Can I add a small pic of myself here?

Thanks.

SaurabhSharma

Hello bigfoot1968,

That area is for Author Avatar image. This can be shown if your WordPress email address is registered on gravatar.com. You can create an account on gravatar.com and register your admin email address. Next, upload a picture and associate it with the email address. It will automatically show in Author profiles and comments section.

Hi Saurabh,

How do I add the banner and link below to a blog post?

Pet ShopsVetsDog Grooming
Default-user

Oops, basically I just want to know how to add an image with links attached to it to a blog post.

SaurabhSharma

Hello Peter,

Images can be added using “Insert media” button in a post, or by adding custom HTML. For that, open / edit your post and switch the editor mode to “Text” mode. Next, place the following code inside your blog post:

<a href="http://www.petslocally.co.uk/uk/pet-shops" title=""><img src="http://yoursite.com/url-of-image/" alt="" /></a>

Change the image source URL to the actual banner. For that you can upload image to the media library and copy it’s file URL. That file URL shall be pasted in src=”” attribute.

An easier approach is using the “Add Media” button. While inserting image you can choose the Link to > Custom URL option from “Attachment Display Settings” which appears on right hand side of Insert Media panel.

Many thanks for this. A couple more questions -

1. How do I make the logo area bigger in the side bar?

2. I have the front page set up for blog posts but of course it keeps removing older posts for new ones and so my front page is always changing the way it looks. How do i keep all the posts static on the front page?

Thanks,

Peter

SaurabhSharma

Hello Peter,

1. Logo width is fixed whereas height is auto. If we increase the width of sidebar, it will be required to adjust other grids on the right hand side too. If you send me your site URL and preferred width, I can check if increasing the width is possible,

2. If you use front page as one of the portfolio or blog templates, we can change the query to show in ascending order so that old posts are shown first. For that, kindly send me a mail at xconsau[at]gmail[dot]com, I will send you more details.

Default-user

Hi Saurabh,

here is my website: http://www.petsmartphoto.co.uk. If it could be increased about an inch and to accommodate a square logo to fit the width of the side bar too that would be great.

Also, when you click on a front page blog image, is it possible to make the images work as a slideshow automatically without clicking the button.

Many thanks.

SaurabhSharma

Hello Peter,

For increasing sidebar width, kindly add these rules at the end of style.css file:

.side_panel { width: 220px; }
.content { margin: 0px 0px 0px 260px; }
.content.classic { margin:0px 0px 20px 265px }

You can upload a logo of square dimension (around 200px x 200px). It will accompany available space.

For auto slide show, open twin/js/custom.js file and look for line no. 91:

autoplay_slideshow: false,

Change this to true for auto slide show.

Default-user

How do I find the twin/js/custom.js file in the WP admin panel?

SaurabhSharma

Hello Peter,

This file is not accessible via admin panel. It will be required to edit this file via FTP or Control Panel of your Hosting. Or email me at xconsau[at]gmail[dot]com, I will send you the edited one. You only need to upload this to server.

Hi Saurabh,

Regarding Increasing the side bar width, I added the code at the end of style.css file:

.side_panel { width: 220px; }
.content { margin: 0px 0px 0px 260px; }
.content.classic { margin:0px 0px 20px 265px }

and while it increased the width, the text in the side bar has remained the same width as before and hasn’t increased with it. How do I get the text to increase as well?

Regarding “For auto slide show, open twin/js/custom.js file and look for line no. 91:”

Where is the twin/js/custom.js file to be found? in the style.css file?

Thanks for your help with this,

SaurabhSharma

Hello Peter,

I checked the same code again. The text expands automatically according to the sidebar width. Right now I can not see the styles being implemented. Have you again reverted back to old CSS?

The custom.js file can be found via FTP or File Manager of your Hosting account. Inside the root folder of your theme, i.e. wp-content/themes/twin/js/custom.js file. If you find it difficult to edit this file, kindly send me your FTP URL and login at xconsau[at]gmail[dot]com.
