Common WordPress Installation Issues

Missing style sheet error when installing the theme

A common issue that can occur with users new to installing WordPress themes is a “Broken theme and/or stylesheets missing” error message being displayed when trying to upload or activate the theme. This error message does not mean that the theme you have purchased is broken, it simply means it has been uploaded incorrectly. Luckily, there is a very easy fix.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you change the text “site search” to just “search”.

Just edit the file /minim/library/media/js/screen.js and search for:

/* Search Watermark */
var watermark = "Site Search...";

Change “Site Search…” to whatever you want and your done

My images don’t auto resize, why?

The theme uses a well know script for this which is called TimThumb.

There are a few things required for TimThumb to work:

What’s this theme using for custom fonts?

It’s using Cufon with the Sansation Font.

Is there an easy way to change the default Cufon font?

In order to change the cufon font that comes with the theme you have to generate another cufon font script for your desired font. Instruction on how to generate are on the cufon website.

After you have the new font script (.JS) you have to copy it to /wp-content/themes/minim/library/media/js.

Then you have to make a few code changes. Open the file in /wp-content/themes/minim/library/functions/functions.php and replace the two following lines with the reference to your new .JS:

wp_enqueue_script( 'sansation_300', JS . '/Sansation_300.font.js', array( 'jquery' ) );
wp_enqueue_script( 'sansation_400_700', JS . '/Sansation_400-Sansation_700.font.js', array( 'jquery' ) );

Also open the file /wp-content/themes/minim/library/media/js/screen.js and change the following code:

/* Font Replacement */
Cufon.replace('.hentry h1', { fontFamily: 'Sansation' });
Cufon.replace('h2', { fontFamily: 'Sansation', hover: true });
Cufon.replace('h3', { fontFamily: 'Sansation' });
Cufon.replace('h4', { fontFamily: 'Sansation' });
Cufon.replace('h5', { fontFamily: 'Sansation' });
Cufon.replace('h6', { fontFamily: 'Sansation' });
Cufon.replace('.menu .nav li a', { fontFamily: 'Sansation', hover: true });
Cufon.replace('.meta', { fontFamily: 'Sansation Light' });
Cufon.now();

to:

/* Font Replacement */
Cufon.replace('.hentry h1');
Cufon.replace('h2', { hover: true });
Cufon.replace('h3');
Cufon.replace('h4');
Cufon.replace('h5');
Cufon.replace('h6');
Cufon.replace('.menu .nav li a', { hover: true });
Cufon.replace('.meta');
Cufon.now();

How do I remove the search feature from displaying on site (the words site search, field and dotted line)?

Add the following code to /minim/library/media/css/screen.css:

#sub-header-search { display: none; }

How do I remove the side navigation (both parent and child) from the sidebar on interior pages?

Add the following code to /minim/library/media/css/screen.css:

#widget-pages { display: none; }

I’m on the UniSphere Minim Settings page and every time I save, it is adding ’/’s to all of the html code, how can I fix this?

To solve this problem you just needed to add the line “php_flag magic_quotes_gpc on” anywhere in the .htaccess file at the root of your wordpress installation. If you don’t have this file just create one with that line.

This setting is usually on by default in php.ini in 99% of the hosting companies.

If the above solution doesn’t work (some hosting companies might block that in the .htaccess file) please contact your host.

My hosting company (HostGator.com) said it doesn’t support the 777 change for auto resizing, they only go to 754. So how get around this?

Some of my clients also have their site hosted at hostgator and they managed to get automatic image resize by contacting support.

There are typically 2, but sometimes 3 rules that need to be whitelisted. 340151 AND 340153 AND 1234234 Contact them and ask them to white list the above rules for your domain.

As far as permissions go, they’re running phpsuexec, so folders and script pages need to be 755 at the highest to work properly, html pages need to be 644.
