I’m interested in purchasing Viewfinder, but I have a question. From the homepage, once you click on a thumbnail photo of a cat (say in your animal category) and the photo is now enlarged, is that a gallery of larger photos of cats (and I’m assuming you can have as many pictures in that Cat Gallery (which was originally located in the animal gallery) Therefore, when clicking on a specific gallery i.e. weddings, then each thumbnail showing will be a number of photos of a specific wedding?

OrmanClark

Hi, I think I understand what you are asking. When you click on a thumbnail you see an enlarged version of that photo only, not a gallery of images.

Hi, I’m trying to insert a legend on a photo page, into the “post box”. As there is two lines, I need to make a line break.

Here is my problem: I write in the HTML box ->

Sinclair Laird Elementary School, Montreal, Quebec, Canada.”br tag”
Colour photograph inkjet printed on canvas, wood, 231×363 cm.

and what appears is:

Sinclair Laird Elementary School, Montreal,
Quebec, Canada.
Colour photograph inkjet printed on canvas, wood, 231×363 cm.

It’s quite strange, because it looks like the text is not able to go further after “Montreal,”, but if I write it without the “br tag”, the all text is able to go further on the line. I also checked the code with Firebug, and there is ONLY one
tag Any idea ? This is quite annoying as far as I have a lot of legends to insert !

Hi, I really like the theme :) Can I use NextGEN Gallery togehter with it?

best regards, jc

OrmanClark

Hey, I wouldn’t be able to guarantee that the plugin would work – there are just too many plugins to try – but you should be able to use most plugins with the theme.

Hey, i’m interested in buying your theme, however Envato or Paypal don’t support “Lebanon” as a country. therefor i can’t put my credit info. Is there any other place i can get it from?

OrmanClark

Hi, unfortunately not, the themes are exclusive to Envato/ThemeForest.

Hi Orman,

Does Viewfinder offer multiple portfolios? In other words:

In the first portfolio, I’d like to have categories: men’s fashion, beauty, portraiture, etc.

In the second portfolio, I’d want to limit to my personal works…keeping my personal works separate with its own categories.

I hope that made sense?

—Ron

PS: Do you plan to release any new portfolio themes for us photographers? If so, I’d like to wait and see before getting this one.

OrmanClark

Hi Ron,

The theme supports a single portfolio. You can have further galleries however these galleries cannot have their own filters.

We do have more themes for photographers in dev, but it will be a little while before they make it to the front of the queue – there are a couple of themes ahead at the moment.

Hello!

I’m interested in buying this theme, but wanted to check whether it were possible to disable the footer and the navbar: i’d love just to have just the website title and the portfolio.

Furthermore (and I think I know the answer to this one): is it possible to use the same porfolio layout for blogs?

OrmanClark

Hey,

1. You could hide them both with CSS (easy) or you could remove them from the HTML .

2. Not without modification I’m afraid. The blog uses a pretty standard layout out of the box.

in response to your reply above: is this sort of CSS modification within the scope of what you offer in terms of support, or do you just help people set up ‘out of the box’? i am personally not much of a scripter

OrmanClark

We typically help people with getting setup out of the box but that particular CSS mod is pretty small, we could point you in the right direction for sure.

Can we add videos as well ? Thanks

OrmanClark

Videos can be added to blog posts but not to the galleries, the galleries support images only.

Hi,

Is it possible to have a horizontal menu with children menu elements?

OrmanClark

Not out of the box no, there are 2 vertical menus. You can have children in these menus however.

Hi,

This theme works great, I just have a few things I can’t wrap my had around. My site is at http://jordanlevine.us.

In my Bio section (http://www.jordanlevine.us/?page_id=32), I cannot seem to make the “Leave the comment” go away, which is not really something I desire, and additionally it seems to be causing alignment/layout issues on the page. How do I fix this? I also don’t want to allow comments anywhere on the site. The only form I’d like is in the Contact section.

On the homepage, the images are aligned to the left, but if you adjust the browser window, they jump immediately to the right, which isn’t very pleasant. I liked the full-width gallery that I initially saw when previewing the website. How do I choose that? I don’t seem to see it.

Thanks in advance and aside from these small issues it’s a really nice theme…!

best,

Jordan

Hi Orman,

Congrats for this great theme…

I am considering using it for a local area network website…with alternative activities, info and photos from the area…It will work great…

Although i would like to ask u…if and how easy it could be to add a footer widget area ( 3-4 columns) to the theme.

I want this in order to strengthen up the SEO side of the website…and provide some omni-present details on every page…

Please advice if this is something u could help me do…in a very special way of support…after of course purchasing your theme…

.stay true.

OrmanClark

Hi, adding a footer with widgets is certainly possible, but how easy depends on your skill level. We do not carry out customisation work ourselves however a developer would be able to help you with this if you were to struggle to carry out the work yourself.

Hello… your demo link isn’t working, man :(

How do I check out this lovely looking theme?

  • Bought between 50 and 99 items

Ok the demo is showing now. I was getting a 404 error.

Will it be possible to add social media sharing (“tweet” and “share on facebook”) features on each photo page in a gallery? e.g. below the image

Also, what about the possibility to comment on a picture (not the blog)?

Thanks

OrmanClark

Hi, it would be pretty difficult to add sharing to each image on the homepage seeing as they do not have their own URL , they are pulled in via AJAX . Comments would be a possibility however, but you may find you need to modify some parts to make sure they work seamlessly.

I’ve been looking everywhere for a jquery masonry plugin with sorting capability…this is pretty close. Sorry if this has been asked before (wish TF would include a search thru comments) but can photos be opened in lightbox or maybe be enlarged as you scroll over? Some of our photos are HUGE (1500px) so it would be nice to give a sample to the viewer before they launch the LARGE photo.

OrmanClark

Hi, this is not something which is available out of the box but could be possible with some modification. You can choose the size of the thumbs from the theme options (small, medium, large) – the demo uses small.

Hi,

What a great looking theme! I have a quick question prior to purchase:

Are the images (once clicked on, ie the single images) a set size. Or is there a limit how large they display? Either way, what is the optimal/recommended/set size?

Thank you so much – I’m very excited to get started! Tanya

OrmanClark

Hi, the images which appear in the overlay can be any size you require, there is no size limit. You may like to keep them to 1000px or less in width so the majority of users can view them without too much issue.

Viewfinder is on my shortlist. Before I purchase I have a few questions. Apologies if some of these have already been answered here …

1. You mention the theme supports a single portfolio. Does that mean only a single gallery filtered line on the home page? I would like to have a sub menu off the gallery menu. For example, if I had “Portraits / Travel / Landscapes” in the main filtered list, then have user click on “Travel”, and that would bring them to another page with a new filtered list that says “San Diego / Halifax / San Francisco” etc …

2. If #1 is not possible, can blog posts be directed to a specific image within “travel” per se? That way they can “start” with a particular gallery.

3. Is it possible to import the title and caption info from EXIF to use on the left side of the image? Or must that be input into the media gallery window?

4. You mention there is no “multi-image” uploader. Does this only refer to a blog post? If I need to upload multiple images is there the standard multi-image uploader?

Just a comment: There seem to be virtually no WP photo themes that offer title, caption and EXIF for INDIVIDUAL photos. Yours is one of the few I’ve seen. Flashlight does, but only in one particular style, and it appears as a tooltip only.

OrmanClark

Howdy,

1. The theme supports a single portfolio with it’s own set of filters. You can create separate gallery pages, however, they do not have their own set of filters. You would need to link to these gallery pages from the main menu.

2. Unfortunately not, you can only link to pages, not the images within.

3. You must input this information when uploading the image.

4. Photos are powered by a custom post type. This means one post = one photo. You create a new post, upload your image, give the post a title and description, publish. You can use the media uploader to upload all images in one go, however you will still need to “attach” them to each individual post.

  • Bought between 1 and 9 items

Does that mean I need a separate page for each gallery?

OrmanClark

That’s right, you would create a new page using the “gallery” template and select which type of images to show e.g. http://demo.themezilla.com/viewfinder/gallery/

  • Bought between 1 and 9 items
  • Has been a member for 2-3 years

Ok. I suppose I could have a page with links to all the separate galleries then.

One last question – does the theme have built-in font support?

OrmanClark

It doesn’t no. To make changes to any fonts you would need to make the necessary CSS changes.
