Common WordPress Installation Issues
Missing style sheet error when installing the theme
A common issue that can occur with users new to installing WordPress themes is a “Broken theme and/or stylesheets missing” error message being displayed when trying to upload or activate the theme. This error message does not mean that the theme you have purchased is broken, it simply means it has been uploaded incorrectly. Luckily, there is a very easy fix.
Frequently Asked Questions
Error: Theme is missing the style.css stylesheet
When attempting to install a theme on WordPress for the first time, you may experience an error message stating:
“The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet. Theme install failed.”
No worries! This is quite a common mistake. Make sure you unzip your theme’s folder before uploading it. Within the unzipped folder you’ll find another folder with the same theme name. THIS is the folder you will need to upload to WordPress.
How can I center the menu?
Centering the menu isn’t supported by default, but you can do a small code change to achieve it:
In “header.php” on Line 226, replace the div class of “container-fluid” with the div class of “container”.
Troubleshooting issues experienced while importing demo content
The demo XML file will import lots of images. Sometimes, hosting providers will cut off the import process because of the large import size. Please check out and follow the suggestions in this article as it may prove to be very helpful:http://theme-fusion.com/knowledgebase/what-to-do-...
If the server simply cannot handle the import size, you can always start over from scratch. We’ve provided a video that guides you through setting up the home page from the start:
My video isn’t playing in all / certain browsers, what should I do?
The current state of browser technology doesn’t allow you to have just 1 video format; you’re required to have 3 different formats of video: mp4, webm and ogv.
Sometimes, even if you have the right format, certain codecs still won’t play in the browser. If you’re experiencing this issue, try to access your Video URL directly in the browser.
For a demonstration, take a look at our video:
If the video still will not play when accessed directly in the browser, then it won’t work with any theme being used.

Can you recommend a good web ready video converter?
We are using this software:
So far, we’ve had a very good experience with it. It is available on both Mac and Windows, and, perhaps best of all, it’s free!
How do I modify elements that are not modifiable in the theme options?
Please note: We don’t support any custom modification that is not supported by our theme options as it’s beyond the support which is intended for usage. As such, you will need to do the modifications yourself. Should you attempt this, we highly recommend that you have a good grasp of the HTML / CSS / PHP coding skills needed.
We do provide an easy way for you to add your own Custom CSS or Scripts under Theme Options:
Appearance -> Theme Options -> Custom Scripts
For Visual Composer elements, you can assign an extra class in the page builder to the element and apply custom CSS to that extra class. As for non Visual Composer elements, you can only do this by applying custom CSS to the hero slide class / ID. You will need to look into the HTML.
For those who are not familiar with coding and wish to have customizations done to your theme, please consider using this site:
They have a large selection of freelancers for hire who can assist you with customizations for a fee.
How do I add Social Icons?
You can add social icons by:
- Go to Appearance > Theme Options > Social Media
- Fill in the social media accounts you wish to use
- Choose the order and which icons you want to show in the “Active Links” box
How do I update Visual Composer?
Due to extended licensing, you cannot simply update Visual Composer automatically. However, here is the easiest way to update the Visual Composer included with Willow:
- Deactivate Visual Composer plugin.
- Delete the deactivated Visual Composer plugin.
- Willow’s notice to install Visual Composer, which is required by the theme, will re-appear as when you first installed the theme.
- Follow the instructions and re-install Visual Composer.
How do I activate Visual Composer?
Unfortunately, you can’t. And fortunately, you don’t have to!
Including Visual Composer in a theme does not grant customers of the theme with a license code.
Instead, we will send out new updates to the theme whenever Visual Composer gets updated. This way, we can also make sure the latest version of Visual Composer is compatible with the latest version of Willow.
How do I install Willow’s demo content?
We’ve made a tutorial video which will show you how:
